Yes David. They were in the era when I was a “party animal “.
Bushie can rest assured that I thoroughly wasted my purpose in life. lol
@ Hants,
You’ve taken me back to the past. Black Uhuru was a tremendous group. But Mikey Dread was a true originator. He had no peers. His music brought a feeling of pride, solidarity and militancy to the Caribbean negro diaspora who resided in the UK during the truly awful, hostile decades of the seventies and eighties.
What happened to reggae music?
Viva Mikey Dread!

What about Jacob Killer Miller music … this man cried for the Legalization of the ganja when the whole ideology behind rastafarianism infuriated the establishment in the Caribbean? And if you watch most of Killer Miller videos, you would notice that this lyrical soldier of the downtrodden youth in the Caribbean in the 1970’s, ablazed ganja in the presence of the authorities at his concerts.
@David,
“Venus Williams is more than just a star tennis player. She’s a college graduate! And unlike those honorary degrees given to so many celebrities, Williams actually hit the books and earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Indiana University. The tennis champ, who’s into the second round so far at the U.S. Open, enrolled in the university’s online degree completion program back in 2011, and on her way to a tournament in Cincinnati in August, stopped by the Richmond, Indiana, campus to pick up her well-deserved diploma. Williams stated in a press release, “It was always my dream to have a business degree, and I ended up going to art school so many times, but in the back of my head I felt like I needed the tools to be a better leader.”

At first glance, "Bottom in de Road" may appear to be someone’s overenthusiastic ode to women’s derrières.
The film, however, gives a humorous exploration into the Caribbean male’s cultural fascination with ‘bottom power’; one that perceives the female bottom as a source of inspiration, sign of fertility and an expression of sexuality.
Against this backdrop is the stark contrast of women’s demonstration of their ‘bottom power’ especially during Carnival as they assert their freedom, individuality and independence.
Directed by Oyetayo Raymond Ojoade, "Bottom In De Road" was filmed between 2012-2015 across several locations such as Port-of-Spain, Point Fortin, St James Chaguanas, Arima, Curepe, Tunapuna, the University of the West Indies, Maracas beach, various bars and even party cruises like the Treasure Queen and First Lady.
Ojoade, who grew up in Nigeria but has a Trinidadian mother, experienced a culture shock when he arrived on the island.
"When I first came to Trinidad in 2003, I was in a constant state of culture shock when walking the streets of Trinidad."
"Since I lived in Nigeria most of my adult life, I witnessed women wearing loose clothing that covered most of their backsides….however, when I came to Trinidad it became blatantly obvious that the female buttocks were presented in a manner that made it most visible, very pronounced and obviously high on the agenda to be viewed.
"I noticed that women felt free in exposing their rear ends in ‘pum pum shorts’ and they didn’t seem to mind when men called out to them.
"I realised that some women love the attention especially when they wear very tight fitting clothes, which reveal their backsides."
"When I saw women revealing themselves in this way and proud to do it, I also noticed that men were not shy about revealing their desires.
"I decided to explore this aspect of male-female interactions."
Ojoade has definitely done his research, as the documentary features candid interviews with a range of experts and public figures such as well-known scholar at the University of the West Indies Gordon Rohlehr, calypsonian Denyse Plumber, Destra Garcia, Iwer George, gender studies expert Gabrielle Hosein and sexologist Dr Giriraj Ramnanan, otherwise known as Dr Raj, as well as the man on the street.
Ojoade, a cinematographer, always had a passion for film and started working with the University of the West Indies in 2006 as an audio visual technician.
The rest, as they say, is history.
He did much of the work himself due to a lack of funds however he said he received lots of help from his friends. He wanted to especially thank people like Carliena Holder, Kerry Bovel, Steven Taylor and Pierre Chester, Alica Miguel and his wife Sharon Syriac.
Some women might say the film is sexist, but Ojoade disagrees.
"Because of the title, ‘Bottom in De Road’, the film may be perceived as sexist but actually it isn’t because although the film focuses on the male’s fascination with and admiration of the female bottom, it retains some semblance of balance by providing a glimpse of how women perceive men’s bottoms as well! In fact, interviewees even make a comparison between men and female bottoms so the film will appeal to both men and women," he said.
The 50-minute documentary will be shown at the following dates and locations:
Movietowne, Port of Spain
Movietowne, Tobago
UWI Film Program, Carmody Street, St Augustine
Visit the movie’s Facebook page for details on viewings at the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival.

Looks like Trudeaumania in full effect in Canada. Could be a Liberal majority government.
Methinks Harper done like dinner.
Liberals win a majority. Oh Canada!
Pierre Elliot has pulled it off from the Great Beyond.Canadians have entrusted their future to an untried and untested leader.Oh Canada!indeed.
Here listening to Trudeau’s statesmanlike speech on CBC Canada and BBC World. I liked the part where he said that over the last 3 years the Liberals used a very old fasjioned strategy, they men with thousands of people and they listened to what the Canadian people said that they wanted and what their concerns were, good jobs, businesses in their communities etc. and what worries people pensions etc.
@Gabriel
All over the world people are feed up with the traditional politician(political party). They want change!
Liberals Win Canadian Election, Ousting Harper
Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper speaks during a media conference during the G-8 summit at the Lough Erne golf resort in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. The final day of the G-8 summit of wealthy nations is ending with discussions on globe-trotting corporate tax dodgers, a lunch with leaders from Africa, and suspense over whether Russia and Western leaders can avoid diplomatic fireworks over their deadlock on Syria’s civil war. MONTREAL/CALGARY – Canada’s Liberal party, led by Justin Trudeau, won a stunning election victory on Monday and toppled the Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, according to unanimous projections by Canada’s major television networks.
The projected win ends the Conservatives’ nine-year run in power and reflected a political shift away from Harper’s brand of fiscal and cultural conservatism. The Conservatives were projected to become the official opposition in Parliament, with the left-leaning New Democratic Party in third.

Pierre has a nice family, a good image to project to voters. A solid family unit smacks to the heart of a quality society.

#JustinTrudeau
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/justin-trudeau-memoir-7-surprising-revelations-from-common-ground-1.2805502 …Before Trudeau decided to run for the leadership of the party, he gathered a trusted group of friends for a three-day retreat around a campfire in Mont Tremblant, Que., where they debated whether the party was worth saving or whether it should merge with the NDP. Trudeau reveals that coming to big decisions in this fashion is one of the lessons he learned from travelling with his dad on international trips.
“The most valuable part of these trips with my father was the chance to watch how he made decisions. He was always asking questions and challenging people around him about their opinions.
“Any decision made by my father was the result of a process that had involved many voices, and which sometimes had taken weeks or months.
“The decision-making model I learned during those 707 flights has come to inform my own leadership style.”
Maybe some of our politicians can learn something from this. Instead we have people who take pride in not talking, and in not listening.
"Just a few months ago, Justin Trudeau was an unlikely contender to be Canada’s next prime minister. Running third in the polls, behind incumbent Stephen Harper’s Conservatives and the resurgent leftwing New Democratic party, Trudeau – son of legendary prime minister Pierre Trudeau – was slated as too young (he is 43) and too inexperienced to haul his beleaguered Liberal party out of the electoral mess of the 2011 general election."
The Liberals ran a very good campaign but I am surprised by the magnitude of victory. 184 seats to 99 Conservatives and 44 NDP.
I had 2 visits from Liberal campaigners and none from the other( 2 parties. maybe they were afraid to campaign in” the hood” ).
I will leave it to the BU political maguffees to theorise as to why Trudeau won. For sure he has a sound understanding of politics having been immersed in it from a baby,
He is now 43 years old.
I posit that the tewrrifying (to the tea partiers/republicans)prospect of a Trump presidency is on account of a people fed up with the corrupt belt way traditional politics.They the people, like Trump because he comes across as beyond being bought by the likes of the Koch brothers and it’s a slap in the face of the Supreme Court bowing to the wealthy elites and passing a law permitting corporate funding to politicians,in other words the Court made it legal to buy votes.Trump and Carson are considered outside the norm,particularly Trump who is using his own resources to fund his campaign.
@Hants
It is simple, people want change.
