I could not sleep last night. Watching the news casts about the war in Ukraine and Putin’s orders placed to put Russian Nuclear Weapons on high alert just took my breath away.  It’s like a time warp where we have returned to the 1960’s cold war.

Have you noticed that we are desensitized to what is happening right now on the other side of the planet?

I will go to work later this morning worrying about things that really do not mean anything when you think about it, compared to the threat we are reliving. Possible nuclear war. Nuclear war. Mind blowing. We have not thought about nuclear weapons for decades, believing that those who control them are sane and wise stewards of the most demanding responsible job on the planet. Several nations have these devises of mass destruction including Russia, America, Pakistan, India, China and Israel who believes in Gods mercy but just in case got themselves a bomb too. Sure we worried about rouge nations like North Korea and possible terrorists attacks using these devises, but possible all out world war.

Humans have the ability to disassociate themselves from reality and create their own, satisfying their needs and beliefs. I have been interested in how a outwardly good family man can do all the things you and I would do in our associations with the family and community, and then go to a concentrations camp or prison camp in the gulag and torture and murder innocent people. This method of doing ones job and also being socially normal is particularly had to understand. Our need as human beings to survive and live our lives safely, mentally protects us allowing thoughts and beliefs that can be contrary to logic and reality to fool us into believing we are doing what’s personally and socially right.

Today, some lunatic or nationalistic fanatic in the military could launch a nuclear missile at the NATO Nations, followed by a response that will assuredly wipe humanity out of existence. How about nuclear powered climate change. Horrible thought, and I am going to work today. Instead of joining many thousands who are protesting Russian aggression, militarism, the existence of horrid dictatorships through out this world I will go to an office and do my job. Am I so set in my routine and my disbelief that others will protect us no matter what? Can we put our trust in our elected officials to observe, assess and then act in the most logical way? Should I gather my family together and live a week of happiness, a vacation that will surely be transformed by what is happening, by what will happen in the present and future?

I am a man of self control, but honestly I am frightened for my family, children, community and really the whole world. Driving to do groceries yesterday I had to pull over because I began to weep at the wheel for some reason. Well with all the stresses we have all felt these past few years and now this to can make us quake in our winter boots. I wish I were in the Ukraine with a sniper rifle defending a people I truly know, a people who wish to live like us in a peaceful democratic nation, far away from Russian Oligarchy’s and nationalistic opportunism.

I do not like how I feel right now. Helpless, fearful for others I love and people I don’t even know.

Hear I was worried the Russians would hack into our power grid and make life truly difficult. What Putin has done is far more sinister, THREATENING POSSIBLE NUCLEAR WAR. He also said he had the talent and means to punish those who oppose him using new technologies we have never seen. Surprising that the great powers spend their wealth not on helping humanity, but developing horrible destructive weapons of mass destruction. The dictator of Iraqi was destroyed because of imaginary W.O.M.Destruction. Why are the evil nationalists of the world holding all the cards? Will the Free Worlds embargo of Russia be enough to calm the Russian Bear ? Questions galore with no answers. Anther thing to worry about. Guess we will all have to wait and see.

Huge your loved ones and appreciate every day.

  1. BL&P warning
Managing director: Ukraine conflict may impact electricity cost
    by COLVILLE MOUNSEY
    colvillemounsey@nationnews.com
BARBADIANS are being warned to brace for possibly higher electricity bills as a direct consequence of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Managing director of Barbados Light & Power Company (BL& P), Roger Blackman, told the DAILY NATION they were monitoring the developments as with Russia being the world’s second largest exporter of oil, the conflict will impact international oil prices, and the cost of fuel purchased by BL& P from the Barbados National Oil Company (BNOC) and other suppliers.
“This situation is concerning because it can mean further increases in an already volatile fuel market and this will have a direct impact on our Fuel Clause
Adjustment (FCA). This past week, crude oil surged passed $100 per barrel for the first time in seven years,” he said.
    Global market
“The FCA component of customers’ bills is directly influenced by the cost of oil on the global market. The cost of West Texas Crude internationally has increased from US$61 at the end of February 2021 to US$91 in February 2022. As always, Light & Power will diligently work in the interest of customers in its generation of electricity.”
Blackman said the utility company has begun its scenario-planning for possible outcomes and will engage with the Ministry of Energy on the matter.
“We will seek to work with other agencies to help reduce the impacts of the ongoing conflict, and we will continue to communicate with our customers on the situation and its impact on the FCA portion of their electricity bills.”
The development comes in the wake of BL& P’s application to the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) last year for a rate increase, a decision which is pending.
The company said at the time that the significant increase in costs and necessary investments, such as its new 33-megawatt Clean Energy Bridge plant at Trents, St Lucy, forced it to seek the increase. It explained it was only the second time in the last 40 years that it had requested an adjustment to electricity rate bases.
In a statement last September, BL& P, which has about 130 000 customers, pointed out that 35 per cent of them, whom it “assumed to consist mostly of low-income customers” using less than 150 kilowatt hours per month, would pay no more than an additional $6.
For other customers, “the typical bill increase resulting from the proposed rates is estimated to range from five per cent to 20 per cent depending on the tariff on which customers receive their service”.
Blackman said he did not envision the Ukraine conflict impacting the rate review, as it was a separate issue.
“We are specifically asking for a review of our customer electricity base rates and not fuel
costs. The price of fuel fluctuates on a monthly basis according to international fuel prices, unlike our customer electricity base rates, which have remained the same rate for more than a decade, since the company’s last rate review process in 2010,” he said.

Check out TV stations 24/7 wars news rotations like sport coverage and Hollywood war movies to brainwash plebeians as per PNAC War paradigm employed in the NWO Hegelian Dialectic → Problem → Reaction → Solution MO.

Barbados is another western nation with brainwashed minds in fools who are already linking Russian/Ukraine conflict with western prejudice and propaganda about China and Saudi Arabia etc as a guide to how the same laws will be abused and applied in the future.

I study history because it often repeats itself and it is pretty well recorded.

@David you make two cryptic statements which although seemingly at polar opposites to each other in effect ideally define the current crisis. You asked -“Why is it the West never reached out to Russia with a more conciliatory mindset the same way it does China for example?”_ and then asserted “The war machinery must be fed. The developed economies of the world depend on this industry to drive GDP. As they say, money makes the world spin.”

Too early to truly deconstruct your brevity but suffice to say that in first instance it’s VERY debatable re reaching out to Putin. Currently in the US some folks reverted to remarks made by Sen Romney 10 years ago when he said Russia was the US (and world) greatest concern and Obama scoffed at him; they are saying well he was right … but what does that mean re your remark.

Well consider that the US under Obama did NOT push forward with weapons to Ukraine re Crimea (for example) and ostensibly tried to walk a careful line — as a tentative outreach to Putin although Obama did NOT underestimate the man’s dangerous intent. As I said too early to be prolix , BUTTTT surely that narrative of a less draconian attitude is ‘trumped’ by the one where the US and West essentially reneged on promises from the Reagan-Gorbachev ‘take down that wall’ era and thus truly were NEVER good faith conciliators! Thus your polar opposite remarks are truly complementary!!!

Since that early 90’s agreement trillions of $$ have been expensed into the former Soviet Union states on armaments (and other nations indirectly) so Putin has good enough reasons to be angry … yet starting a WAR that could end civilization is NOT the valid response.

Snapshot of military industrial complex money spinning the word economy! ….. Poland: $6 billion on tanks and $1/2 billion plus NATO Naval Base; Romania: NATO missile naval base as well; Lithuania and Latvia: NATO air station facilities ….. In addition to those three above many other former Soviet block nations (Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Estonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Albania, Croatia etc) have aligned themselves to NATO and it’s military hardware and have expended significant funds mostly via huge western loans (economic churn in the western economies)!

Recall too the recent debacle in Turkey when Erdogan bought Russia air-defense systems and NOT the US products; expense over $2 billion. That was a MASSIVE issue and the US threatened sanctions and halted plans to sell F-series stealth fighter jets; overall money churn shortfall $9 billion plus.

…. One can only wonder how this Putin act may reconfig that state of play!

Recall France sold Egypt fighter planes; economic churn $4.5 billion…. And then the other recent one between US and France re Australia and a deal for submarines; income churn $37 billion…. And if the naive think that’s unrelated then please realize that the Aussies and Chinese are serious ‘competitors’ in the South Asia area seas and of course Australia is a crucial partner of the western alliance security apparatus.

In short, those are excellent well paying jobs in finance, engineering etc and long will this economic churn continue until … some megalomaniac leader or terrorist ends it all! You are not wrong, good sir.

    I gone. Gotta churn too.

    Easy peasy Japaneesey!!!!!

    Just Google Russia Quakers.

“There are weekly Quaker meetings in Moscow and meetings by arrangement in St Petersburg. The history of Quakerism in Russia is long and diverse, with multiple references and obscure connections to British Quakerism throughout Russian history.”

Didn’t you know there is even a Russia Gully and a Moscow Plantation in Barbados?

    https://www.quakersintheworld.org/quakers-in-action/289/Interaction-with-Tsarist-Russia

    Interaction with Tsarist Russia
    1698 – 1919

In 1698 Tsar Peter the Great travelled in disguise to London. He wanted to learn more about shipbuilding, and took lodgings near the docks. News of his arrival reached Friends and Thomas Story and others went to meet him. Peter challenged them with the proposition that Quakers were no use to the state because they would not fight: Story’s response was that they were extremely useful because they worked hard, were honest, and very innovative. Peter was sufficiently intrigued to arrive unannounced at Gracechurch St Meeting the following Sunday. All this interaction had needed interpreters, but on another occasion William Penn and the Tsar had a direct conversation in German, a language both of them spoke.

In 1768 Catherine the Great was very concerned about the scourge of smallpox, and had heard that a method of inoculation was being developed in Britain. Her ambassador in London asked Dr John Fothergill for advice, and he recommended Quaker doctor Thomas Dimsdale. With some trepidation, Thomas travelled to St Petersburg, and some time later he successfully inoculated Catherine and her children, and then many others. In 1781 he returned to inoculate two of her grandchildren, one of whom became Tsar Alexander I.

The interaction with Alexander was probably the most far-reaching of all. In 1814 he made a triumphal visit to his allies in Britain, at the end of the Napoleonic wars. Russia had suffered terribly at Napoleon’s hands (described graphically in Tolstoy’s War and Peace) but the tide had turned and Alexander had recently marched into Paris. He came to London to find out more about new thinking and new technologies. (The education of the Russian aristocracy of the time was European in orientation, and they tended to look west for new ideas).

Meeting for Sufferings had prepared a message for Alexander and charged William Allen and Luke Howard with delivering it. Before they had arranged this, Alexander asked Allen to take him to a Quaker meeting. The Tsar’s command of English was good, and he was impressed. He had many questions to ask when he met Allen, Stephen Grellet and others some days later, and they also discussed practical matters such as farming methods, and the Lancastrian education system. These discussions led to the introduction of the Lancastrian system into Russia, and to Daniel Wheeler spending 15 years (1717-32) reclaiming the St Petersburg marshes. When Allen and Grellet visited in 1818-19 they saw these initiatives at first hand, as well as visiting prisons, hospitals, and farms. They met the Tsar several times, and discussed what they had seen with him.

Alexander died in 1825, and his successor Nicholas 1 had different preoccupations. Wheeler was able to continue his work but the Tsar took little interest. It was not until 1853, when the Crimean war was brewing, that a Quaker group visited Nicholas again. This time Britain and Russia were on opposite sides, and the Quaker delegation, led by Joseph Sturge, were seeking to prevent war breaking out. Their efforts were fruitless, and they were severely criticised in the British press for even trying.

In 1856, when the war was over, Sturge and others became aware of the devastation in Finland (then part of Russia), caused by a British bombardment, and organised a relief programme. It was the first of several relief efforts in the ensuing years.

In 1891 and in 1906 the focus was famine relief. Quakers helped with immediate needs but also suggested ways of addressing the root causes. Francis William Fox made detailed proposals about irrigation schemes, for example.

Another relief thread concerned minorities who were suffering for their beliefs, notably Mennonites and Dukhobors. In 1858 British Friends took a plea for liberty of conscience to the Tsar, and in 1878 US Friends appealed on behalf of the Mennonites. In the 1890s Quakers helped the Dukhobors to leave Russia and settle in Canada. In this work they had many interactions with Leo Tolstoy, who was also campaigning on these issues and financing relief work himself.

The last intervention in Tsarist times began in 1916, helping Polish refugees fleeing into Russia. As the Tsarist regime crumbled, a team from the newly formed AFSC and a British Quaker Unit collaborated to do what they could, until they had to leave in 1919.

There is a reality that the West does not receive Russia the same way it does China. In Putin’s seat why should he sit idle while former Soviet States position to join NATO which means that agreement automatically triggers a response from the alliance which includes the USA? Remember the blogmaster’s earlier caution, geopolitics rule.

i made my position clear from very early…

war solves NOTHING…physical war generates MORE WAR, genocidal deaths, terrible injuries, poverty, immense and horrible suffering, infrastructural damage and destruction…..and a ton of paper money to keep it going from century to century..

personally, am against BOTH SIDES warring on each other, regardless to who is right or wrong or the grievances. real or imagined……and all the provocations that instigated it…..the issue here is, the only difference and change is the new year/century…2022…these tensions have simmered from century to century and only needed a TRIGGER….just like hatred against Afrikans…however, there is so much more at stake…this time around, compared to previous centuries..

but no one likes to do their homework, give them a title and their MOUTHS take over from their BRAINS…cause they just gotta show how [thisbig] and important they are….

some on BU need to restrain themselves from attacking everything i say and DO SOME RESEARCH themselves……

@David, re ”There is a reality that the West does not receive Russia the same way it does China” , yes … we can agree that perspective is key. Russia has always been the all-purpose bogeyman whereas China was not so considered; rather the west made the Chinese it’s all-purpose manufacturing facility to drive western economic dominance. Absolutely, Russia consumed minds as a danger.

However, Putin should ONLY fear countries joining ”NATO which means that agreement automatically triggers a response from the alliance” if he expects NATO to effect a response … and THAT in turn could only mean that he expected to INVADE a NATO country!!

Tortured reasoning you may say but that has to be it because the NATO treaty does NOT stipulate that NATO will engage in illegal acts to START a war in support of a member nation…

In sum, Putin’s fallacy proposes that he acted because Russia feared an attack by a NATO backed neighbour and then that the allies would support said aggressor when Russia retaliated in defense. (And let’s not cite Libya or Iraq; they were Security Council resolutions approved by the same Russia in those matters)

Thus his fear of being ‘surrounded’ is no more than his perception of impotence and THAT he cannot abide.

Simply stated Russia is clearly a very dominant power and it’s leader is angered by the lost of regional power-reach as a result of Gorbachev’s perfidy… THAT geopolitical posture and control is driving his ambitions and thus nothing less than some semblance of reclaiming past glory will appease him!

A pundit noted that in recent times only Joseph Stalin has ruled Russia longer than Vladimir Putin… I am sure that Putin knows and reveres that historical nugget!

It is a matter of perspective and the considerations being factored by Putin. Is his situation dissimilar to how Israel has responded to the Arab threat? Putin knows if former Soviet States continue to to build relationships with NATO and the West and at the same time Russia’s relationship is declining it will not bode well given the quest by the West to nurture democracy in socialist countries EXCEPT China.

Oh @David, that’s a tough comparison for me … you are blurring the secular with the Biblical, good sir. Not a comparison about which I can opine re the non-secular. However, on the earthly front…

1.The situation is quite dissimilar because Russia or the Soviet Union was the original large scale potentate (in MODERN TIMES) … this is different to the Israel- Arab geographical wars and concerns.

2.Even if we consider it beyond that substantive difference and examine it strictly as a country surrounded by hostile neighbors there are still major differences: Russia was NEVER threatened to be eradicated by ANY former Soviet state neighbor who became a NATO member … Israel was by it’s Arab neighbors.

Furthermore, boss, Russia has deep seated links as brethren family with their kith and kin neighbors even deeper than any such links between Israelis and Arabs. These people are their second (and some cases first) cousins once or twice removed with whom they can trace common ancestors. These are NOT deeply prejudiced generational enemies of the mid-East neighbors!!!

So only is a very limited sense can I agree with such a comparison… moreover Mr Blogmaster Czar Putin is the one who disavowed centuries old connections and absurdly told his Ukrainian brethren that THEY have no right to exist.

It’s absurdly unjust for Iranians or Egyptians to threaten Israelis in that way and it must therefore be absurdly, mentally unhinged for a Russian to say that of his Ukrainian cousins … REGARDLESS of the contrived provocation!

    Just saying bro.

The reality is there are the same because geopolitics is at play.

It’s called the North Crimean Canal.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Crimean_Canal

“On 24 February 2022, the first day of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops advancing from Crimea established control over the North Crimean Canal.[16] The Head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, told local authorities to prepare the canal to receive water from the Dnieper river and resume the supply of water, which was planned for the following day.[17][18]”

On 26 February 2022, the concrete dam was destroyed by an explosion and the water supply was resumed.[19]”

I know from my reading of military history that in an invasion, the first objectives taken reveal exactly what the invader is thinking.

Putin may not want Kiev at all!!

Now. look at a map of the Dnieper as it flows through Kiev.

What was another FIRST OBJECTIVE taken?

    Chernobyl!!!

That’s on the Dnieper too, at the source.

This invasion looks to me to be about huffing water for Crimea.

Chernobyl can pollute the whole Dnieper.

If Putin controls it he can cause havoc for Ukraine and avoid it being used against the Crimea.
