The current administration has invested in the media and media personnel has invested in the Mottley administration. Some media practitioners were forced out of CBC and landed at Starcom. But some of the others are riding the fatted calf for all it is worth. (David Thompson spoke of the fatted calf being shared among the DLP members after the elections in 2008. Fourteen years later we are still there.)

They may be professionals but how many of their statements in the print media, behind a microphone or in front of a TV camera were motivated by a political agenda or professional integrity.

The Market Vendor aka Vic Fernandes has been used to influence the public with comedy and encourage John Public to rail against individuals and groups with views against the government of the day. Don’t forget when the vendor lambasted the DLP government.

Corey Layne was said to be an objective moderator on the airwaves. Any person who is a critical thinker must question that thinking by now.

We must be more aware of what is being put out by the media, who is the source and why news items are considered newsworthy or not.

    A few minutes before today’s “Brass Tacks” ended, a caller made the point that the Minister of Health did not know of the vaccine scandal, and he is a member of the cabinet. Since Ms. Kay McConney, the BLP candidate for Christ Church West, had just a few minutes ago emphasized the collective responsibility of cabinet, the caller asked her to address the issue of cabinet not collectively knowing about the vaccine scandal. She refused to touch it.

    I intend to ask each candidate (from every party) who knocks on my door for a vote what they know of the vaccine scandal, and where have they made their position on it known publicly. This is an issue related to the governance of Barbados, and as a civic-minded Barbadian, I deserve to get answers. No reasonable answer, no vote.

    I am with you on that point (vaccine scam ) & other issues

    For e.g – taking up tax payers funds to pay police officers who – twice – lost the case in 2 Courts of Law !

    While I support your push on these issues on Brasstacks and here on BU

    As he strongly believes MAM has managed Barbados extremely well the past 3 1/2 years……and truly deserves all 30 seats, again, for the next 3 _ 5 years !

    @5Dub, that’s simply an invalid argument. It’s a convenient comment offered by indifferent or lazy pols that there would be “an increase in spread of Covid” causing more problems if “All who want to vote should be allowed to do so vaccinated, infected with covid or not.”

    There is TOO much evidence of focused, energized leaders and political operatives who got their covid positive citizens to vote without causing any grave societal disadvantage.

    Barbados is too small that we could not have adopted any of the more feasible and scalable models to fit our needs (and budget). Several have been noted across these pages previously .

    We managed last year. I think ,unless the COVID concerns get more challenging, we should get some form going. Last season , we did a 10 over competition and then a 20.

    William, I really hope that we can get cricket going again in Atlanta. As you are fully aware, the innocent looking cricket game forms the foundation for our (Barbadian, West Indian and Indo-Pakistani) social interactions, and creates a welcome cultural oasis for us in the American south. Good luck in your attempt this year to get the regular competitions back on track.

    How would you feel if you caught Covid while voting or while working in a poll station or if there is a massive increase in infections across the country

    would you even risk voting if you knew that you would be mixing with infected people

    The vaccine issue, as reported in news dailies, reeks of naivete.

    Could never have happened with adequate due diligence as to the US party chosen as a partner.

    Honestly, I am astounded that such happened.

    Without knowing full details, not making accusations, and not referring directly to this case, but does the US regulation against mail fraud give protection against parties who act in less than good faith??

    Not a declaration made by govt which breaks a law of a determination to citizens right
    Even more reason why govt PM decision was a poor judgement call and should be corrected before the election is called

    So why then did the same due diligence adhering government fail to follow standard operating procedures and refused to engage the services of authorized agencies to sources pharmaceuticals to protect the health of the nation?

    How come neither the substantive Minister of Health nor, according to McConney, any other member(s) of the cabinet of yes-men and women was aware of this “condition” or the authorized agent selected to source a vaccine from an authorized source?

    Walter Blackman has every right to make this matter a life or death elections issue.

    Poor Uncle Jeff must be totally pissed off with his despotic niece!

    I grew up with an older “auntie” who was frequently my sounding board on how adults may react in specific situations.
    She was known to quip, “wait, you could question and answer yaself real good”
    I suspect you will get similar to questions pertaining to the Vaccine acquirement story.
    Possibly you might locate the PS who signed the letter? She knew. Maybe Maloney dictated it lol

    See my query re mail fraud.

    The US authority is usually very keen to prosecute scammers on the wide grounds of mail fraud.

    Of course, I am not alleging that this occurred here, just discussing generally.

    but can you explain to me the distinction between Maloney
    and the Government of Bahamas
    and the Government of St Lucia
    and the Government of Barbados
    and how due diligence is applicable

As of December 1, 2021, vendors, consultants, and visitors to Elections Ontario must show proof that they are fully vaccinated and provide proof of identity upon entry into Elections Ontario facilities, including field locations. Failure to comply and/or provide vaccine confirmation will result in denial of entry to Elections Ontario premises. “

    Seems very sensible and practical. But alas our government has not mandated vaccines for anybody, and many of our people have been very vaccine resistant. 31.4% of people older than 12 have so far not shown up to be vaccinated even though there are enough vaccines for them and there are so many vaccine clinics that for most people a clinic is at most a 15 minute walk away in excellent weather or a short car or bus ride. Also at present we have zero vaccines for children younger than 12 and of course the little kiddies [don’t tell them, but behind their backs I call them little germ factories] live in homes with the rest of us.

    I had a vaccine resistant acquaintance tell me today that Omicron covid is just “a little flu” I told him that the last time I had the ‘flu, about 10 years ago I was so sick that I hoped to die, because I though surely death is better than how I was feeling. There is no such thing as “a little ‘flu” for old people. Said acquaintance is the middle aged son of an excellent vaccinated retired public health nurse.

    To your earlier open question, the DLP lost the prior election for three reasons.

    The electorate recognised the inaction and mismanagement was taking Barbados to hell and back…or maybe not back.

    Monetary campaign assistance was not forthcoming.

    The youth. Ah yes, the youth, something that the BLP has got right and the DLP has still not grasped.

    Compare the candidate slates.

    And this election wull see three more years of youth voting eligibility.
