George Floyd was no innocent when it came to crime; he was from an early age, becoming a career criminal.

floydUnable to find work in Texas as an ex-prison convict, he moved to Minneapolis in 2014 for a fresh start after release from prison in Houston, having served time for aggravated robbery with a firearm [deadly weapon].

On the day of George Floyd’s death, Floyd was arrested by police officer Derek Chauvin, at whose forcible detention he met his death. An end that most decent people would declare unlawful and a disgrace, regardless of what we now know about Floyd’s past, and perhaps latest alleged behaviour.

Following a complaint from a store clerk, Floyd was approached and spoken to by two police officers outside the store while sitting behind the wheel of his car. Floyd was then pulled from the vehicle and handcuffed by the two police officers.

https://www.fox9.com/video/688157

The police officer Derek Chauvin had knelt on his neck, after trying to get him into the back of a police car, which Floyd refused to enter. Floyd was arrested for allegedly paying for cigarettes with a fake $20 bill.

Some newspaper stories state that “None of the officers could have been aware of Floyd’s more than a decade-old criminal history at the time of the arrest.

But George Floyd and officer Derek Chauvin had worked at the same club, the El Nuevo night club in Minneapolis. Derek Chauvin as a security officer, and Floyd as a bouncer.

There is a distinct possibility that George Floyd and officer Derek Chauvin were acquainted, and the officer may have even known Floyd’s criminal background and that he was dealing with a man capable of violence.

The owner of El Nuevo Rodeo confirmed it was likely Derek Chauvin had “crossed paths” with George Floyd during their time working at the club. It turns out that Floyd, a former bouncer at Minneapolis bar El Nuevo Rodeo, was a long-time co-worker of Officer Chauvin — who knelt on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes until he died.

Local politician Andrea Jenkins, who sits on Minneapolis’ City Council told NBC affiliate WRAL-TV “He knew George,”. “They were co-workers.” Jenkins went on to say to MSNBC that Chauvin and Floyd both worked at the same bar for years as well.

Chauvin and the three other officers involved in Floyd’s arrest have been dismissed from the force, a spokesperson for the Minneapolis Police Department confirmed. The case has now been turned over to Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Ellison, Minnesota’s governor, announced over the weekend. Chauvin has been transferred to a maximum-security facility.

The Floyd family believed that 46-year-old Lloyd had left behind his past in Houston after being released from prison stemming from a 2007 robbery, in which he plead guilty to entering a woman’s home, pointing a gun at her stomach and searching the house for drugs and money.

The financial cost of demonstrations, peaceful but angry, is acceptable whatever they should be. But the cost of billions of dollars in the looting and burning of property and vehicles is not. Neither is the violence, the murders, setting police 0fficers on fire, looting, arson, and destruction, unacceptable under any circumstances, and cannot be excused.

It was not only George Floyd who had a violent background, Police officer Chauvin, who joined the force in 2001, had been involved in several other violent incidents.

But perhaps most police officers in Minneapolis are subject to being involved in the inherent violence in the communities in which they work.

In 2006, according to a database by Minneapolis’ Communities United Against Police Brutality, Chauvin was involved in the fatal shooting of a man who stabbed two people before reportedly turning a gun on police.

In 2008, Chauvin shot a man who allegedly reached for an officer’s gun during a domestic-violence call. (The man survived the shot.)

In 2011, he was one of five officers placed on a standard three-day leave after the non-fatal shooting of a Native American man. The officers returned to work after the force determined that they had acted “appropriately.” (Another officer, not Chauvin, fired the shot.)

Communities United Against Police Brutality also faulted Chauvin indirectly for the deaths of three people that Chauvin and another officer were chasing after a crime in 2005, were struck by a car.

Minneapolis’ Office of Police Conduct complaint database shows seven complaints against him, although all are listed as “closed,” “non-public,” and resulting in “no discipline.”  The city’s Civilian Review Authority, which lists complaints before September 2012, reveals five more complaints, which are also closed and resulted in no discipline.

A prisoner at a Minnesota prison sued Chauvin and seven other officers for “alleged violations of his federal constitutional rights” in 2006, although the case was dismissed.

Since the death of George Floyd, a GoFundMe for Floyd’s family has raised more than $7 million.

Black Lives Matter, so do all lives, some politicians in the Caribbean have treated the citizens as if the only lives that matter is their own, and those of their family. People have been processed, metaphorically speaking, as if they had a knee on their neck and the whole country is choking to death. With black police beating black people, worse than any white policeman behaves in America. The politicians allow it to happen and condone it by saying nothing.

  1. What does it say about a police system that entrusted the responsibility of two rookies to a policeman who had 18 charges against him. This is why reform is a legit cry from protestors.

  2. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

Wuh even cousin Charles came out although no one believed his nonsense, but he came out and made an attempt nonetheless…….BUT…..this witch in Barbados is so focused on keeping her OWN BLACK POPULATION as modern day slaves in a racist, apartheid slave society maintained with their own money to enrich a few minorities and her own crooked criminal syndicate of thieves …that she can’t even find it within herself to change her nasty narrative and hate towards the African descended..

  3. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

Yep, the nuisance fools who still believe that all Black people’s actions should be measured and criminalized based on a weaponized racist system DESIGNED to destroy them….would not even think about that…the racist killer was senior officer to two rookies…despite his long record of brutality and law breaking as it pertains to policing. That kind of dirty cop is always involved in all kinds of human trafficking, drug running, child pornography and other repulsive things they believe they are entitled to do as law enforcement and KKK, because they see themselves as untouchable while murdering Black people.

  4. Many Barbadians who have reached out to me and who have I heard talking are today very proud of the Prime Minister. She refused to be bullied into rushing headlong into making a statement without weighing the strategic imperatives. Barbadians are very happy that their Prime Minister takes the public trust of government seriously and that she recognises that private citizens can do and say as they like, but government has a trust to protect and a much bigger picture to take in. Many people are happy that her brief aside in Parliament was a credit to this country and typified our Barbadian level-headedness. There is integrity in a politician who does not simply hitch themselves to a bandwagon because it is popular or fashionable. There is integrity in a politician who deliberates carefully because it is important to do so, even if it is unpopular. I give the Prime Minister her fair share of ‘licks’ all the time, and I frequently express critique of this Administration but yesterday even I must say she did well.

  5. The killing of George Floyd should serve as a catalyst for change.

Watching him being crushed to death in real time was horrific.

Black lives matter including those of Black Bajans in the U S A some if not most of whom send
remittances back to Barbados and thereby contribute to the economy of Barbados.

All right thinking people should oppose anti black racism and police brutality.

  6. All right thinking people should oppose ALL racism and police brutality.

The killing of George Floyd should serve to REMIND US THAT THE HEART IS DECEITFUL ABOVE ALL THINGS AND DESPERATELY WICKED! (Jeremiah 17:9)

@David, I had been totally troubled by this re ” What does it say about a police system that entrusted the responsibility of two rookies to a policeman who had 18 charges against him….”… It just freaking blew my mind.

Sometimes, one must recognize that coffee is just coffee and whether it’s Blue Mountain, Nescafe, LAvazza or whatever… that’s is just an effing bean that’s going to caffeinate and likely induce a diuretic response… in short: it is what it is sans the BS branding, just as many police depts. simply give branding lip service to this issue of PROPER training and perpetuate grossly bad practices.

This ongoing systemic BS is so angering that big men cry and shake with rage…. thus as you suggest… how the bad-word does a Capt or Chief of Dept assign a clearly compromised and ill-disciplined officer to TRAIN rookies… steeupse!

Then the first damn thing out of their mouths whenever there is an incident like this is that the police need more training… this is the angering sham… thus my inner rage says…burn, baby burn…BUT my commonsense says…NO…let’s do this…AGAIN for the life’s work of Martin and Nelson!

And @Mr Khaleel Kothdiwala ..enjoy your sycophancy. In another era you would have already received your scholarships papers to attend the comrade school for the future leaders of the party and likely would be embarking on an awesome career of future acceptance of party speak. History is littered with the super-men and women ‘Kal-Els’ who destroyed themselves or were destroyed in service of the beloved leader, but one hopes you are spared that fate.

That you find it full of pride that our PM (and current Caricom chair) took over 14 days to make ANY statement on a death that has roiled the entire world but that she thought it so pressing to come off her ‘sick bed’ to interject herself in the asinine, simplicity of supermarket shopping days and other BS logistical govt matters says a lot.

In one of your posts you said in effect that you are an independent thinker and blogger… Independent of what and whom, I wondered!

    Anyhow, I gone, gone.

  8. They should see how Mia is being roasted on FB…by everyone and their Mamas..

….she got three weeks to vacate the Caricom chair…but what the hell does that have to do with removing a repulsive statue of a symbol of racist white supremacy and hatred for Black people, the majority population who elected and pay her and her jokers for ministers a monthly salary….oh i know, there is no bribe in that, but there will be tons of BRIBES TO KEEP THAT PIECE OF FILTHY STATUE up in the faces of the majority population to keep the curse and blight in their lives going for another generation…

  9. RE how the bad-word does a Capt or Chief of Dept assign a clearly compromised and ill-disciplined officer to TRAIN rookies… steeupse!
THIS IS UNFORTUNATELY QUITE THE NORM IN THE CONTEMPORARY COSMOS DIABOLICUS
THIS IS A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF INFERIOR SUPERIORS AT WORK!
    WHATS NEW?

RE In one of your posts you said in effect that you are an independent thinker and blogger… Independent of what and whom, I wondered!
WOULD YOU NOT ALSO SAY THAT YOU ARE an independent thinker and blogger?
THE QUESTION IS Independent of what and whom, I wonder!
    LOL

  10. Early on there was talk of this from the family and other sources, now CBS is revisiting it again because people who worked at the same nightclub knew that the racist killer somehow had it in for George Floyd. And if there is evidence of that…he should have an upgrade..

“As mourners in Houston honor the life of George Floyd in Minneapolis, CBS News is learning new details from a nightclub coworker about alleged history between Floyd and Derek Chauvin, the former officer who is charged in Floyd’s death. According to a former coworker, not only did they know each other, but they had a history of friction.

Floyd and Chauvin both worked security at a nightclub at the same time. Coworker David Pinney said the two men had a history.

    “They bumped heads,” Pinney said.

    “How?” CBS News asked.

“It has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue,” Pinney explained.

The Floyd family says they believe what happened on May 25 was in part personal. Their lawyer has called for Chauvin to be charged with first-degree murder, “because we believe he knew who George Floyd was.”

  11. Contributors on here are always on about the Jews and their connection to Nelson.

Why not tear down the Synagogue?

The only sensible reason for tearing down the statues in Barbados would be if by some miracle Bajans suddenly became religious and used the Commandment about graven images to justify the removal of all of the statues and busts, from Bussa to Barrow.

You appear to have a challenge with your word-finding.

Pedantry has to do with obsessive concern with minor details. However, those details actually exist. You on the other hand manufacture criticism.

I also think your definition of sycophancy to be interesting. I never thought a sycophant would openly criticise the master to whom he has allegedly pledged fealty. Yet again I achieve an astonishing feat.

The Prime Minister, emerging from her sick leave to lead from the front, on such important local issues as people’s access to food is wholly different to responding to a livewire incident in another nation with geopolitical ramifications. Not only is she our Prime Minister, requiring care, but also as Chair of CARICOM she has a responsibility to the 18 million human beings in that bloc, to exercise discretion and restraint in her remarks on livewire issues. Sadly this is an issue where many have allowed their emotions to take hold. The Government weighed the strategic imperatives and she spoke, and might do so again. Government is not Mottley and Co Ltd. There is always a much larger vista to take in, a burden that private citizens do not have to endure.

But anyhow most Barbadians including those who regularly criticise this Administration praised the equipoise of the government. I will criticise when necessary and praise when deserved. It’s a shame others don’t do the same.

PS harping on about the Prime Minister even when that obscures the much more important larger issue is very revealing of persons’ intentions and agendas.

  14. Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith who is responsible for approving permits to march under the Public Order Act referred the group’s application to the AG, after claiming that while he was not opposed to the demonstration, he was bound by the public health emergency restrictions.(Quote)

I said this on Sunday or Monday following the banning of the march. I said the decision was taken above the commissioner’s pay grade. Now we are being told it was referred up to the attorney general by the commissioner, which was right and proper. But the smoke and mirrors brigade now want us to believe that is where it ended. No. I am sure the AG would have called, texted, shouted, tapped, whatever it took to communicate with the resident.
I would bet it was her decision and she is now rowing back on her deceptive decision. I also believe the president talked to the US ambassador.
As to the US embassy spying on Barbadians. Why do you think they have such a huge staff in a tiny island? Based there are officers from the CCIA, the FBI, DEA, ATF, military intelligence; they will take pictures and when people apply for visas they will then identify them (unless they travelled to the US previously).
Don’t go to the US; let the Yanks stuff themselves. Political principles are more important than buying cheap clothes in Brooklyn.

  15. The march was not banned, the protesters violated the conditions of the permit to which they agreed.

From right to left: Woman at Black Lives Matter protest, fetus

As the Black Lives Matter dominates the streets of America, an alternative grassroots movement is rising up in response, calling for an end to the greatest killer of black people in America: abortion.

On Sunday, Melissa A with a strong social media presence, called for an alternative social movement called #AllBlackLivesMatter. A self-described “Conservative, Wife, mother and Child of the Most High God, stated that the #BlackLivesMatter movement currently in the forefront of the protests is acting in partisan political interests that do not address the very real concerns of the black community.

Every death is, of course, a tragedy but when dealing with social issues it is useful to refer to data. Last year, 1,004 people were shot and killed by the police in the US: 370 were Caucasian, 235 were black, 158 were Hispanic, 39 were categorized as ‘other’, and 202 were of unknown ethnicity.

Melissa A. cited Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, as saying that a much more serious threat to black men is violence from other black men.

Her claim is disturbingly accurate, A study of police data from 2015 published in US News showed that of the 13,455 homicide cases in which the FBI listed a victim’s racial information, 7,039 victims – or 52.3 percent – were black. Of those, 89% of the killers were black.

She related to this in a tweet in which she lamented that the city of Chicago suffered its bloodiest weekend in history with 18 murders in one day, many of the victims being black.

BUT MELISSA A. THEN CONDEMNS AN EVEN GREATER KILLER OF BLACKS: ABORTION.

In a Facebook post, she posts a graph showing figures to support that claim.

In fact, the abortion rate for black women is 36%, almost five times that for white women. Abortion is the number one killer of black lives in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, abortion kills more black people than HIV, homicide, diabetes, accident, cancer, and heart disease combined.

In 2008, Issues4Life Foundation, a faith-based organization that targets and works with African-American leaders toward achieving the goal of “zero African-American lives lost to abortion or biotechnology”, wrote to the Congressional Black Caucus to denounce Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its “racist and eugenic goals”, calling for the organization to be defunded.

In fact, the organization intentionally caters to minorities and women of color. A study by Protecting Black Lives, in 2012, found that 79 percent of Planned Parenthood’s surgical abortion facilities are located within walking distance of minority communities.

Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was an outright Eugenesis who believed that the Black race were like weeds that needed to be Exterminated…She was also Influential in the Propaganda used by the Nazi’s to Exterminate the Jews…They wanted a Pure Race, so did this minion of the deep dark abbess!

The organization she founded performs about 350,000 abortions annually. This is a booming industry as the organization reported about $2 billion in assets form over $1.5 billion in annual revenue, of which over $600 million came from federal funding.

  18. @ Hal in the eyes of the PM everything is a political opportunity. A simple statement of solidarity would do, but that would make it about George Floyd and racism. The PM and her team (Jong and Henry) cannot let any opportunity to make it about her go.
The last few months have seen her raise her profile regionally and internationally, I applaud that.
But when you look beyond the media domination, I am concerned there isn’t much we haven’t seen before.
Is she using this platform for herself or her country. What has Barbados gained from the perfectly orchestrated Amanpour charade, we still got blacklisted.

What effing “strategic imperatives” would be impacted if a PM in Barbados made a statement condemning action of the Policeman? Is she afraid that the US Gov’t would sanction her? Would not allow her to travel to the US? What is the larger picture? This is what happens when people get favourable press in some quarters and believe that they are more important than they actually are and believe that if they say something people will take them seriously.

  26. @ Sargeant

The answer is simple. She was a political baby and I will be surprised if anyone ever told her she was not as clever as her fan club believe. It says more about the people they interact with than it says about her.

I am certain that the U.S. Embassy is happy not sad that our PM has offered her moral support for human rights and justice.

The company make rules for people to operate in, the company has to draw the line somewhere…people work within those rules or GTFO. It isn’t like they want him to hide his ugly face for the duration of the races or anything that drastic. At least Ray boy believes in his “cause” so much he wont work in the same company so it is good that he GTFO.
