Two notable things I remember from that PR exercise:
1) The Minister referred to the “White Collar Division” (could be Dept) of the RBPF
I didn’t know such a creature existed as sightings of it are very rare so I thought it was either extinct or on the endangered species list. Thank God we will be able to hear how it operates in the future (with town firmly in cheek)2) The Minister mounted a firm defense of the allegations on social media made against his Cabinet colleague and law partner and he acknowledged that there wasn’t a public face or name to those complaints.
All I can say in their right mind will approach the Atty Gen. with a complaint that will tarnish him and the Gov’t? In circumstances like this my old people would say “da body en got de sense dey was born wid”.BGIS couldn’t carry the PR thingee but when I visit BGIS I see all kinda pictures and videos of the PM and various Ministers about their duties but yet it couldn’t carry a minor PC which was farmed out to the arm of the ruling Party.
We still have a ways to go.

Did any one read or where about the “peer to peer” lending fiasco in China? Millions have lost millions as the “peer to peer” lending companies are now going belly up. Is this corruption because the “well intended” did the business thing and declared bankruptcy or was it a well planned scheme/scam coming to fruition”

Don Blackman was the Minister of Communications and Works.White owned Williams Construction, owned by Cow Williams put the government in court, claiming that the contract was awarded on racial grounds and not by the best bid. The government ended up paying Cow.
Both the BLP and DLP hands are tied when it comes to helping small black owned businesses because they take money from the big white businesses. Now Mark Maloney, who was cussed for ten years will get the same or more amount of business and he has family ties to Cow and Bizzy. Bizzy has publicly stated that he gives money to to both the BLP and DLP. So all this talk is just that …talk .
You note also that all the social activists have gone underground because there is no opposition and there will be no need to question anything. So, all the crocodile tears should not be taken seriously. We should sit back and watch the useless fire crakers and little starlights from both sides try to defend everything they attacked and or defended in the last decade.
Let’s start with twenty six ministries and four ambassadors………………..
then let us look at bringing back discredited jokers to lead a party in total disarray by the same people that the electorate completely discredited.

Is there such a thing as bribery where no money passes hands? How is bribery defined in a legal sense?
I am thinking that corruption does not always have to involve money payments. Maybe i owe u a favour and i look the other way as a method of settling a debt due etc?

One one hand, Ross University relocating to Barbados is not seen as a benefit to our economy “At a time when local Companies are struggling to stay open.”…..
……..it was as a result of some selfish, untoward, sinister, unethical, immoral and underhand move by government…..
………..which goes against the spirit of CARICOM unity and will devastate the Dominican economy.
But on the other hand, procurement of goods from other CARICOM states is not viewed as being unselfish and embracing Caribbean unity……
……we should look after “our own self interest” first and ignore CARICOM unity.
In other words, CARICOM unity is used conveniently…. according to what political agenda is being pushed at the time.
Politics, politicians and political yard-fowls…….never cease to amaze me.

Nothing short about the memories I suspect…then as now it’s all about spewing populist rhetoric to sway the baying mobs RATHER than effectively conducting practical social reforms.
As I recall Dr Don Blackman was extremely vocal of the disadvantages to Black operators like Rayside and by voice and actions set about to remedy the situation. To put that entire vibrant debate and situation in a nutshell retort all these years later: the Minister went about the actions wrongly and according to the courts illegally.
You cannot redress one wrong but perpetuating another. He surely could have carved out legal ways to give Rayside work (which eventually they did it seemed) and avoid the fracas.
COW was the principal of this company and surely reaped great profits but in simple terms his company employed hundreds of Black Bajans as well so the chatter a the time was more about the prevailing ‘white shadows’ issues and about political patronage with COW supposedly aligned to BLP and Rayside to the DLP than it was about practical social redressing of anything.
YOU know that.
As history of these many years is our guide, COW continues to employ hundreds of Bajans and still to be super wealthy but he also continues to be a patron of now both political parties; Rayside is still there and has shrunk and then expanded as the founder-owner and his designated successor faltered and regrouped.
Can you state here with any veracity that their issues are a result of lack of contracts, competitive advantage from the benefits giving to COW and others, management problems or whatever?
It is surely not corruption to establish ‘set asides’ as a social redressing of historical discrimination but just as surely it can corrupt the parties involved when good motives are badly implemented!

I however agree that, rather than procure items from our regional counterparts as a first option, we should be encouraging and, where necessary, assisting new and small to medium sized businesses to produce these items.

OR have a relative employed by the company…or maybe even if that relative of the govt official is given special consideration/discounts from said company for the personal company the relative owns
OR when the company awards services or products contracts to another company associated even indirectly to that former govt official
OR when the govt official is then appraised of business actions by the company or other in its industry space and trades stocks or otherwise benefits from that insider knowledge
OR if that govt official recommends to another govt authority not to investigate or take action for missteps made by the company
Please, the question was firmly tongue in cheek because there are SO MANY OBVIOUS ways to circumvent the obvious bribery way of physical passing money …they were just a smattering!
BTW, if discovered with evidence all these can still be prosecuted!

Those just being a smattering of ways to circumvent the “bag of money/cheque) payment etc, I don’t see how the mere fact that Barbados is entering an IMF programme will stop the “bad behavior” that will most likely occur under this administration like it did under previous administration.
We need to stop/curtail producing/birthing greedy and corrupt citizens before the corruption will stop/reduce. Anyone have any ideas?

As long as the DPP and the Commissioner of Police do not take action against the corruption and other crimes committed between 2008 and 2018 I do not trust ONE DLP-member.
Barbados is now the least developed country in the Caribbean when it comes to growth and debt. And the Dems still ventilate their agenda, eg the legend of the “constitutional crisis” since nobody of the blue syndicate made it into parliament.
Or what do you think what will happen after devaluation? Do you think people will stay calm when houses and cars are gone and Dems like Hewitt pursue their very priviledged life? I have seen what happend in Jamaica and Guyana. That taught me a lot.

Everyone with even a “molecule” of common sense knows that “corruption in Bim politics” predates 2008 and even 1976.
However, in the interest of fairness……I’m sure you’ll recall that the DLP and their supporters were similarly leveling accusations of corruption at the BLP during every election campaign from 1999 to as recent as 2018….as well as during any opportunity presented to them.
Going by your logic, it would have been likewise justified for the DEMS to say corruption in BIM politics were at its zenith during 1994 and 2008.
But here is where the difference for me comes to the fore. Rather than shed crocodile tears lamenting on the DLP, what you should have done was to encouraged them to investigate cases of alleged corruption and lock up a few BLP politicians and their bag-men…….
……. rather than referring to these allegations during election campaigns as a strategy to solicit votes.
If the DLP had done and said about BLP corruption, during their 10 year tenure……what the BLP now APPEARS to be doing and saying……would you think you’ll be holding the same position?

Barbados faces the most serious constitutional crisis ever. The Commissioner of Police rejecting to act and a silent DPP – whereas the AG demands swift investigation into bribery and money laundering. In other words, the police and the DPP on the wrong side of the law.

It is well known and documented that a former acting Prime Minister of Barbados in the name of Lionel “Lammie” Craig was caught with a substantial amount of illegal drugs at our airport in the 1980’s. A complete coverup with the then Prime Minister Tom Adams seeking and guaranteeing his release from custody.
Also in the era of Tom Adams as PM of Barbados the illicit drug trade took off. That is between 1976 & 1985.
Fast forward between 1994 & 2008 a number of dubious acts took place in Barbados. Al Barrack controversy,former Prime Minister Owen Arthur receiving a cheque for his St Peter Foundation and personally cashing it,Hardwood Housing Inc receiving millions of dollars of government money and yet NOT ONE house was ever located in Barbados built by that company.The GEM Project whereby the government of the day repaired old dilapidated hotels owned by private individuals as the expense of the tax payers and returned them to the owners who did paid a cent back of our money. A million dollar bath built in Silver Sands and the demolition of an ackee tree that cost the tax payers of Barbados thousands of dollars.All of these things occurred under Barbados Labour Party administrations that comprised the present one term PM,and the other ministers including the same Dale Marshall & George Payne.
This Barbados Labour Party administration has just enough skeletons in their closet or even more than any former Democratic Labour administrations.
The Barbados Labour Party in my estimation is even more corrupt than the Democratic Labour Party. -

The opening up of procurement to bidders within Caricom is another step forward to a full fledged single economy. Note that the apologists fail to mention that the arrangement will be reciprocated. Ask them if the Chinese working up at Sam Lords from bout here or who drew the plans? The disemboweled Dems have nothing of substance to offer, so they are throwing and hoping something sticks. In the meantime a candidate for Gen Sec of their party is, sadly, under ankle arrest in Trumpland.🤐 -
Let us hope Donville is acquitted of all charges in the USA.
Let us hope that Herbert and the two other GEL employees are also acquitted in the drug case.
That would partly cleanse Barbados’ “tarnished” reputation.

I think the Democratic Labour Party has done such egregious harm to the hitherto good name of Barbados that that party should be the subject of an appropriate resolution in Parliament to ensure it never again is allowed to field representatives for any public office in Barbados and further that all those former members of the parliament during the years 2008 to 2018 do not benefit from a pension where applicable.That is the party that added 9 billion of debt to its citizens and can show nothing for it other than corruption of the highest order.The Democratic Labour Party is a threat to Adult Suffrage.It should be banned for ever and ever and it’s last parliamentarians consigned to the nethermost parts of hell if it exists.Its a bloody disgrace to Barbados.
