One of the first task Prime Minister Mia Mottley opted for was to tour the sewage affected South Coast area with an army of stakeholders in tow. The event no doubt was to demonstrate publicly the priority government has given to fixing a national embarrassment.

Of interest to the blogmaster after viewing recent pictures and video of the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary locale – supported by a statement from the Prime Minister while on the tour of the area – the RAMSAR site has been relegated to a sewage dump.

It is unfathomable why successive governments have supported polices which have led to a compromise of the wetland. The sheer negligence by those in charge have led some to  theorize that the Graeme Hall area may have been ‘sabotaged’.

Attached is a view shared n social media.

  1. Is it supposed to read ‘sheer’ negligence, or ‘shared’ negligence? I trust the blogmaster is able to edit posts, even if we are not.

  2. The visionless leaders of the day who had prepared any plans to build a sewer system on swamp land in a designated area called Graeme Hall Sanctuary had condemned the Sanctuary to a lifetime of toxic and pollutions
Mia Mottley was a member of that visionless group and now as PM has embarked on a political path of deception after the the fact .She ought to hid her head in shame

  3. @ Mariposa The decision to locate the South Coast at its present location was made by the DLP when Branford Taitt was Minister of Health _ the Govt changed and the Blp was the Govt when it was built. When making biased statements as is your norm please ensure that you at the very least have your facts correct.

  4. Thanks!

  5. You have your facts. This continual blame it on the past govt for execution only washes if past govt had made the initials plans and groundwork in building the plant
Paper work was agreed and orchestrated by the blp in its early stages for the plant

The word is sheer …meaning “unmitigated”
It can also be shared…. meaning that all of us brass bowls sat by …and allowed it to happen….

What does a sheer negligee have to do with this catastrophe?

  8. It appears that to this point at least, no one is offering a solution to this national disgrace. It really does not matter who caused the problem. The question should be , who is going to fix it and how.

  10. This is a VERY interesting angle that would be investigated thoroughly in any enlightened society – since we all know that there are many wicked and heartless devils among us who would sell their own mothers for the right price.
In a moronic society of brass however, it will be dismissed with a smile and a wink….

An even more basic question for Bushie however is …. who in their right mind would locate a ‘sewerage plant’ at Graham Hall to take sewerage from DOWN Bay street …only to stir it, and pump it all the way BACK down to Bay street and out to sea….?

Perhaps a ‘Mariposa’ had a hand it the design…?
…and hence her claim to be so knowledgeable….
    LOL
    ha ha ha

  11. your island is around 26 x14 miles and mia needed a tour of the infected south coast.? hasnt she been driving through it, eating in it , whistling by it for the last number of years. Rather than seeing her they would rather see some big excavators to dig up the supposed blockage. quit photo opting …get working. Saw on the news the other day one of the settling tanks and it looked like it was full of bush, for lack of maintenance someone has to be fired

  12. It was kept as cheap as possible and made as expensive as possible to create a large difference for the politicians and their lackeys to gain.

Substandard materials were used to increase the takings.

I have already related the story of the Engineer who brought home $75,000 in cash one Friday night!!

I t is alleged he looked the other way.

The sewage system should have been done in such a way that the 9 million gallons of sewage was retreated and made available as water for reuse!!

Who made the decisions that resulted in a Primary, vs Tertiary treatment solution?

The same lot that is now the Government in waiting!!

  13. That I believe is the basic reason why the IMF is needed.

To provide the funds to solve to buy the expertise to solve the problem created by the very people who caused the problem in the first place.

JOHN IS THIS sheer negligee MEANT TO BE EXOTIC……OR EROTIC? murdah
    good shot Sir!

Sad to see how the swamp is being destroyed and disrespected.

The late Captain Maurice Bateman Hutt must be turning in his grave!

The old “banking road” through the swamp was a conduit to primary school, St Lawrence church, and to play table tennis in the Worthing Police station…….precious memories

  17. A former Prime Minister said land should be put to its best use.

The best use of Graeme Hall swamp is as it exist.

You all can use google if you need to learn about the value of swamps as natural habitat and breeding environment for birds and fish.

  18. For Mariposa information the BLP never envisioned the type of plant that the DLP had signed off to and tied up the hand of the Owen Arthur Administration to. The three plants envisioned by TOM ADAMS were all of the Bridgetown type.

  19. Wily is vindicated, he told this blog several (3+) years ago that South Coast Sewage plant was discharging RAW SEWAGE into GRAEME HALL NATURE SANCTUARY via two eight inch bypass lines by the sluce gate. Several Posters said Wily didn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground, Wily has last laugh, however this is not a laughing mztter.

We’ll see if this criminal activity gets the legal justification due by the new government, Wily suspects it’ll get swept under the Bajan political rug and disappear, time maybe tell.

  20. Then Hugh Sealybthe local engineer who worked on the project should explain some more. Didn’t he comment publicly that the design of the South Coast plant regarding the treatment of the waste had to do with the appetite for financing at the time?

  21. Did the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary not belong to a wealthy Canadian who left the island and washed his hands of Barbados after getting little or no cooperation from the then Government in developing the wetlands? Was the lands butting and abounding the Sanctuary not alleged to be owned by a leper whose intention it was to build condominiums and the reason government frustrated the Canadian was so the “swamp” could be converted to building land? Is this not why what was once a prided natural Reserve has turned into an open sewer?

  22. The BIG NEWS OF THE DAY ANNANKI sold the NUPW membership out for pennies LMFAOFF and that is not the end with IMF on ground to collect the debt.Annakani would soon realize the foolishness of his actions when those pennies have to be given back to the treasury to pay the debt LMFAOFF

  23. “Paper work was agreed and orchestrated by the blp in its early stages for the plant.”

    Mariposa

    YOU ARE A LIAR!!!!!

Although I have presented EVIDENCE to BU on SEVERAL occasions, which indicated the initial involvement of the DLP in the south coast sewage project……

……….you PERSIST in your attempts to MISLEAD BU.

In January 1990, the GOB and the Bank signed a loan contract 571/OC-BA for a coastal conservation preinvestment project to seek viable structural and non-structural solutions for the protection and enhancement of the south and west coastal zones of the country.

The Ministry of Health wrote a letter to the IADB dated April 12, 1990, requesting 4 loans to facilitate the construction of the south coast sewage plant.

If the loans were approved on September 30, 1992…….and the BLP came to office on September 6, 1994……

…………..could you please tell BU how the “Paper work was agreed and orchestrated by the blp in its early stages for the plant?”

You are just a silly political lackey that does not read anything other than what is posted to the DLP’s website.

  27. Enuff

    Relax…..

I also like to expose the nonsense spewed by Mariposa and the other DLP yard-fowls that post all types of contributions without substantiating evidence.

“De gards” uh de Hal Austin…… I real fritun fuh he…….

He is a man dat duz know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING. Every establishment, law, system and professional in Barbados is WRONG, while he is always CORRECT. He is the “brightest man” in the “world and other places.”

Mr. Brilliant even found flaws in the recent throne speech. So he will be a “tough nut to crack” and expose….hahahaha!!!

But, look out…….although it is you who mentioned him……he will take me to task.

Whoo hooo……… we won all 30 seats! I have no more work to do now!

  32. Yuh all soon see bitter. My bitter would become better after Mia and with help with tge IMF complete the socio economic devastation enviroment of this country
Ask Akannai he and his membership was given a taste of the bitter cup yesterday and there is more to come when the IMF does a refill for govt workers. Only a jacka ss would sell there soul for nothing.

  33. Wait……Mariposa……I passed by George Street and deliberately slowed down and was appalled at the outward condition of your party headquarters.

The place look run down and dilapidated……..with all the money circulating from government largess, the millions you all had to spend to curse Mia and her family……..you mean to tell me that no one thought to use some of our monies to renovate your party headquarters.

It figures……….your headquarters look just like how you all run Barbados down into the ground! Bad managers all around.

  34. Your DLP brought this country to its knees. Get off this blog and go hide for the next 25 years.

The people have spoken, accept that the people dont want to hear or see from wunnah! Boo hoo!

  35. Prodigal you soon see run down when Mia and the IMF finish devastating the socio economic enviroment of this country and all barbadians run away

  36. Paradise Lost? The stench of economic decay is overwhelming Barbados

That is a pretty shocking statement but that is what the world is reading about Barbados.

    http://www.nationalpost.com/paradise+lost+stench+economic+decay+overwhelming+barbados/17196810/story.html

A large effort regardless of political stripe , has to be forthcoming
    to solve the problem.

  37. Prodigal Exhibit A who would have thought that Annankani wa be so dumb to settle for a paltry 4 percent decrease
But then again he must have felt so shame and deceive that even his self worth wasnt worth saving.
Poor fellow and to think he might have to wait three long years (providing the increase can bypass the IMF demands) to see any financial value from that decrease

  38. First Mia expansion of the debt by 8million dollars to fatten the pockets of 26 ministers.
Then giving barbados reputation a knock out punch by defaulting on its debt
Then giving the govt workers a taste of the bitter cup.
Wuhloss who knows and who is next
In line for her poisonous needle
Oh i forgot thebgovt bonds were among the casualties
Thanks Mia you sure knows how to make all things bitter

  39. Mariposa is the Trini ent? Go call Maureen on Talk yuh talk.🤣🤣

Prove your $8M v the claim by breaking down the amount. The Trini was on Brasstacks yday with the same argument about driver, PS etc. Do enlighten us.

  41. @enuff

Where is the money coming from to fix the sewage plants.

  42. Ok.Enuff Now you go prove and bring to table the names of dlp ministers who stole taxpayers money
    I waiting

  43. Mariposa
Even though I have heard of the pay to meet, I don’t get into calling them thieves. Incompetent and liards, yes!

    David
How would I know? My guess, however, is that because fixing the SCS and buying garbage trucks and buses are not recurrent expenses, the “elbow room” afforded from reprofiling would allow these one-off expenses. Any idea how much can be saved per month in interest payments alone?

  44. @enuff

That is a good response from someone who does not know.

These yardducks will be crowing for awhile so get use to it.

  46. You should be ashamed to come on BU and post BS about MAM and about pending hardship.

My friend, MAM only took over this country two weeks ago. She has been handed a bitter chalice from which to drink but have no fear, we who support her are not stupid, we know how bad things are and how badly the economy was managed and people will manage their expectations.

  47. Prodigal relax. Mia promised she can fix it.From my vantage point she has started off to a great start
Two downgrades in a week .defaulting on govt debt
giving the NUPW a punishing 4% wage decrease from 23% which Annakani fought past govt for
Oh govt bonds flushed down the toilet
    Increase govt debt by 8million

    @ the Honourable Blogmaster

At 5.33 p.m. you asked Enuff where the money was coming from to finance the Sewerage Trucks

You could quite easily have been asking where was the money going to come from to finance any of the Barbados government’s business

I know that de ole man oft times loses many of you with my humble submissions

But here I go again with my simple reasoning of “go to the ant tht sluggard, consider her ways and be wise”

    Huh? WTF is he saying?

So I shall continue with a second equally left side comment

“…In many badly damaged cities such as Berlin and Hamburg, people collected bricks and stones to be reused but they lacked the skilled labour to rebuild…” from How did Germany Rebuild After The War

    Huh? WTF he talking bout?

The incoming administration has inherited a landscape that is akin to a war torn zone.

The strategy for a reality where roads, buildings, social services, the economy is torn to smithereens is no different to an Aleppo Construct.

And coupled with that externality we have the issue of “Nazis and collaborators” who survived WWII embodied in the entrenched DLP saboteurs and persons who facilitated the rape of the country

The fact is that we all sat down and either actively or passively contributed to the war Fumbles and Stinkliar inflicted on the country but it is how we are collectively able to rebuild that will decide whether we have picturesque landscapes for global sojourners to come visit after the holocaust or if we reap a Chernobyl

Having said all that circuitous goobledee gook one can hope against hope that readers understand the reality of the situation we are in

So having taken so long to explain the war torn landscape de ole man will try to weave the even more complex mechanism by which people, usually indolent and lackadaisical people, can be “dragged willingly” an oxymoron to be sure, to the shores of rebuilt and vibrant Barbados

    In a second submission…
