The GROTTO
The GROTTO Apartments, UNOCCUPIED

In 2008 Barbadians voted for a Democratic Labour Party (DLP) government by booting the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) out of office after 14 long years. Then under the leadership of Mr. Integrity Fruendel Stuart they won a close election in 2013.

There was an expectation by those who bought into the DLP manifesto promises that mistakes made by the BLP would not have been repeated by the DLP. Ladies and Gentlemen we make available the Special Audit National Housing High Rise โ€“ 2016 prepared by the indefatigable Auditor General. Although the Auditor General does not say it, there was blatant corruption associated with the projects audited.

If you were watching a game on football game on TV this would be when the REPLAY is played.

We , I , them , Us told all of you this information and the Numbers match the Auditor General , His Numbers support our truth , But to much and so much Land fraud and laundering of VAT and TAX that many still today must hear it on Liars like CBC and the Nation to even consider the Truth of Barbados Banking and down grade mess, Keep Watching more to come on the Vote Buyers who is up to their tricks again, Our words on mouth dont change for out documents dont change for the can not change the past , But we can change these crooks , liars and scumbags of Barbados, Vote CUP and see your way clear and clean,

  2. Who would ever believe that after the now famous Haggatt Hall meeting that the DLP would ever have become so corrupt and incompetent in such a short time?

The DLP is not a party that is big on building edifices, they always said that they believe in a building a society not the economy or buildings. So much for that……….after they have decimated the family structure through their bad policies.

Now all of a sudden after they are elected on the basis that they would not be like the BLP…………. oh they would be squeaky clean and by george, the moment they got in, they began to thief left right and centre,

Every single project they have embarked upon, there has been steel in there. Not one of them can tell the other come back. It has always been what is in it for me and the DLP.

Can you imagine that the offer to build these units did not go out to tender. Building started before the PS was given the required documents that were requested. Concerns were raised over the cost of $856,419.00 for 84 parking spaces that is $10419.00 per parking space. When concerns were raised the parking lots were reduced to 23 but the cost was seemingly never reduced……………..talk about steel.

I could have gotten my handy man who is so good at what he does to do that for a fraction……..we need to drain the swamp of these morons! If the BLP does not lock up somebody for aiding and abetting the theft of taxpayers money, they wont be worth their salt!

Since Barbados became independent, politicians can be corrupt with impunity and they have done so in grand style. No one is being held to account for obvious wrongdoing. We should be proud of our independence, the British Government cannot suspend our Government and prosecute crooks like they did in the non-independent Turk and Caicos. Happy Independence!

This is one of the saddest documents I have ever read.
One wonders what those persons entrusted to make decisions on behalf of the citizens actually do.
I choose not to even bother to comment on specifics.
All I can say, is this document alone if presented to future investors, will find them running for the hills.
    Pathetic. Incompetence beyond description.

    Prodigal Son,
Why don’t you get real? Is this a BLP election promise? If not, why not?
If “thiefing” is being done in Barbados, do you really think that someone was waiting for the 21st century to start the ball rolling?
Can you come up with one good reason why, so far, the BLP has never locked up “somebody for aiding and abetting the theft of taxpayers money”?

Trust me. They are not worth their salt.

  7. As far as Bushie is concerned, if the Auditor General is not prepared to include in his recommendations, that SPECIFIC persons be charged as a result of clear and specific violations of the law (in relation to tendering, signing contracts without proper authorisation etc), then he is part of the damn problem.

It CANNOT be enough to just recommend that public officials should “follow the rules” …as if they did not ff’ing know that before…

Bushie, couldn’t agree with you more!

Politicians cannot practice corruption unless they are ably aided and abetted by senior public officers; with the Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Departments and the CEOs of statutory corporations being the major players.

How do you think the 2013 DLP campaign was funded? With personal contributions from the speaker and Greenverbs Parris?

Find out who was the main contractor for the Grotto housing project and you would appreciate the amount of clout that is still being wielded even today with the Bay Street Tower of Babel.

  9. We agree with the AG.

Why should he be serious when nobody else is, has been?

Why put his neck to be severed by a guillotine when there are few citizens that are prepared to confront wicked, pernicious, governing systems?

We have to stop hiding behind people like the AG and play the proper role which ‘democracy’ demands, as citizens.

This nonsense about perpetually waiting for the next general election with an expectation that something will change is the province of idiots.

The AG is quite right not to fashion a report with such a language as to aid political victories by people who themselves have been previously guilt-ridden with similar crimes.

If we understand that we are supposed to be educated then we must also come to know that education without courage is mis-education.

Sorry, we forgot, this is a country of ‘intelligent’ cowards!

  10. Strange indeed that those small apartments at the Grotto some 600 sq/ft. costs $443.5k each. When you can get a nice home on land from Signature Homes for $350k. Somebody got rich off dem dere partments.

  11. The Blp sounds like DTrump whose campaign rhetoric was to lock up those he called a thief, Yet he was the biggest swindler whose extreme theft was sufficient to throw him in jail
The BLP has been the care takers of the taxpayers money and enough have been said about their leader being charitable to monies to herself which she was not authorized such allegations made by her former leader OSA yet never was any mentioned to lock her up called by the political operatives but more so to endorse her to becoming the next PM

Your writings have changed. They are reading very strange and missing that punch and sense of sound reasoning. I thought that your entry into politics meant that you would remain who you are. That you would call a spade a spade and that your truth would not be compromised in any form or fashion by influences or other persuasions. You can support your party but do not let your party change what is right about you.

I do not come on BU as often anymore because of work and the fact that I get fed up easily doing and saying the same thing. I decided to comment now because all I am reading from you is a whole bunch of shite rhetorical and subliminal nonsense. If you cannot be you, Walter Blackman, that person, many on here, appreciated and respected for his writings, then you will not convince anyone that you are of the type of stuff that will make a difference for Barbados.

The Democratic Labour Party has unsettled many bajans, as one of the new faces of DLP politics we do not want that you morph into the ideals that are making them the most infamous DLP government in the history of Barbados politics. A word of caution if your head is not too big to listen to some advice.

Poor Walter is (like his previous namesakes) a political butterfly except that he hates the Bees with venomous passion because of Tom and Erskine G. He is no neophyte to electoral politics neither is he a stranger to the DLP camp.

What Walter has to fight is not the Bees but his own โ€˜moralโ€™ conscience by asking the inevitable soul-searching question: How can I be a senior member of a deceitful lying party which is cursed by the pox of the โ€œall-rounderโ€ Greenverbs Parris of CLICO infamy?

To cleanse the demonic lying party of this Duprey curse which has infected Lord Fumble, he, Prince Walter from the clan of McMilton, has to perform more than 12 labours of Herculean proportion starting with cleaning of the King David stables of thieving, money laundering and political corruption.

Walter, we know that you know Greenverbs is still indebted to the Treasury for the millions owed in VAT and income tax. Why not make that your first item on your โ€˜To Doโ€™ list?

  16. @Walter

Never thought the day would come on BU when your probity? on the issues would be questioned by some like SSS et al.

    Time for some introspection maybe?

  17. @Miller

You need to be fair to the argument by completing your critique. The malfeasance can only be perpetrated with a private sector who is complicit.

It is very convenient that this issue of the cost of these units at the Grotto has come to light at this time.

I would bet you that very soon this government is going to start putting their dlp members in these units knowing full well that they would not be able to afford them. The arrears at Valery have already started to build up and we know that the ones they would put in the Grotto would be moochers as well……..their turn to feed off what is left of the fatted calf. Lets face it, a lot of low income people have been laid off.

When the BLP takes over and have to take action as these units are not low income
homes (what idiots we have in charge)…….the same dems will say how wicked the BLP are in what ever action they would have to take as the tenants cannot pay the economical rent. Who in their right minds could ever build little flats at $450 per square feet for low income people?

I believe that the building of these units had nothing to do with providing homes for low income people but more to do with the financier of the DLP election getting back his money. These units started right after the 2013 election………we are not stupid, Freundel.

I thought he was suppose to be a man of integrity.

It is obvious to anyone who saw the final cost of the housing projects that no-one with any sense would approve low income housing above $250 per square foot which is the going market rate for more preferable ‘house & land’ packages; the reason for building it must therefore never have been low income housing.

What is less obvious to anyone looking from the outside who might say to themselves “if I had to un-shit this problem, what would I do?”, is that the design does not allow for retrofit to tourism-standard with things like movable partitions, centralised A/C etc. etc.

Fumble’s Fools have spent more to accomplish less than any other gov’t in the history of this country. There will be no recovery under Fumble’s inept, teefin’ Fools.

    Sunshine Sunny Shine,
I have said it before and I will say it again. An attempt at effective public education is not an easy undertaking. In an effort to get my point across, sometimes I may choose to use humour, provocative questions, analogies, and scenarios. I might not succeed in my attempt every time, so I must be prepared to suffer the consequences when I fail.

You have always dealt honestly and forthrightly with me and your feedback tells me that, as far as you are concerned, the quality of my writing and reasoning is slipping. You are spending and focusing some of your valuable time on me to ensure that my thinking and communication process remains at a high standard, so the very least I can do is to promise you that I will re-evaluate my strategy. I do not view myself as being above criticism or reproach.

That said, I also owe it to you to give an explanation of what my “whole bunch of shite rhetorical and subliminal nonsense” was meant to convey.

As you know, I am on the ground in Barbados and many days I have to fight back the tears as I come face to face with the poverty and deprivation that the current economic and financial difficulties are visiting upon many households in the country. My heart bleeds for the most vulnerable groups – the children and the aged.

I am hearing that 5% of the population is now controlling 95% of the country’s wealth. If you were to visit the port when a cruise ship is “in”, you will observe that most of the tourists are hustled off in a large private bus (monopoly) whilst the remaining few are frantically solicited by hundreds of taximen waiting outside (fierce competition) for crumbs. This example epitomizes the nature of economic and business activity in Barbados. The 5% doesn’t have to care what we write or say on BU. The business market has been well and truly cornered.

Such a lopsided, iniquitous economic system represents a great deviation from the dream and vision that Errol Barrow had for Barbados. How did we reach this undesirable, reprehensible, and nationally destructive destination? By behind-the-scene planning, manipulation, and design. That’s how. And not by one political party or lodge either.

One would have thought that, by 2016, Barbadians would be smart enough to bring their collective “foot” down on the foolishness that enslaves them, but instead we get bloggers spouting a lot of DLP/BLP junk.

Do you know what is the most hurtful thing? There are some protesting bloggers here who don’t care one damn about Barbados or Barbadians. Like rabid dogs, they have been anxiously waiting since 2008 to get a chance to sink their stinking teeth into the flesh of taxpayers. There is no saviour on the horizon. We have to get up off our backsides and save ourselves. How to get that done is the question which should be consuming us daily.

Let me make myself translucently clear. If we find reasons to praise the BLP, then there are equal amounts of reasons to praise the DLP. If we feel an urgency to ban the DLP, the same need exists to ban the BLP. Running from a DLP left hook will simply result in us being floored by a BLP right hook. That is our political reality and history.

Finally, I laud and salute you for reminding readers on BU, through your posters, that Mia out to be subjected to careful scrutiny like everyone else.

    de pedantic Dribbler,
Some time back, I made the point on BU that a DLP supporter would accuse the BLP of doing something wrong, and the BLP supporter would retaliate with an example that shows the DLP did something wrong also. I stated then that whereas the two individuals would view this encounter as a draw (1-1), in reality two (1+1) wrong things have been done and the country has been harmed. I still maintain that position today. It is quite possible that you did not see that blog.

Just a day or two ago, Prodigal Son recommended that we get rid of “these DLP morons”. My suggestion to him/her was that we get rid of ALL morons. I accept, in advance, your excuse that you did not see that blog also.

Prodigal Son recently talked about the BLP locking up DLP politicians. I simply asked him/her, as diplomatically as I can, if he/she really expects the BLP to lock up themselves. If you have a problem with the question I asked, that’s your business. I don’t care, and I have no apology to offer you.

Every single national issue that is brought up for discussion on this blog quickly disintegrates into DLP/BLP nonsense. The blogmaster has commented on this trend before, but no one seems to pay him any mind. You all like it so.

Well, I don’t. The laws of Barbados were meant to be applied to everyone and whoever breaks them (B or D) should be made to suffer the consequences. That is my UNRELENTING stand!

Barbados is at the crossroads and is poised to plunge its people into an abyss of long-term desolation and despair and we can’t get any further than BLP/DLP crap? The BLP and DLP, as political parties, have their role to play but it is not fair to blame or praise them for everything that happens in this country. We need to improve the level of our discussions.

I am neither craving nor courting popularity on BU. All I want to do is to make a contribution to serious national debate and have a little fun doing so. That’s all.

    Now run along and reflect.

I read your explanation thrice so that I would not get emotionally roped in regarding your given reasons. I am sure, Walter, that in you is a man that want to do the right thing under the right set of circumstances. I believe you mean well even though some of your statements sounds very much like you are compelling the reading audience to tune into the violin melody playing ”the pity me song.” That is just how it feels and come over to me; no ill will intended.

Walter, Barbados is in a mess. I have no time to tow B or DLP lines because the problem now faced had/has its reality in both of the established parties. Mia is no blasted good, but so is Freundel. What I will tell you is that I despise what they stand for and, I hold the current Prime Minister in contempt for all that is wrong with the DLP party and for what visionless governance we have had for the past eight years. To further break it down I dislike them as much as I dislike the BLP party because the very same thing they accuse the BLP of, they are now at the receiving end for doing the same shite.

Two wrongs do not make a right Walter and the selfishness and greed of both parties are well known and established. If you are to be the face of difference, then it will not help your DLP-cause by pointing out the faults of the BLP. All you are doing is just what your party comrades have done since 2008.

Notice that I am ignoring your compliments towards myself. That is because I remain me. I cannot be anything else but me and for me. I want to know and believe that you are the same and that your aspirations are strict to the better of Barbados in a serving capacity and now self serving

As to BU, if you are trying to mix it up in this forum, you are a darn fool. Notice how easily you have lost your standing by trying to come to a level that subjected you to ridicule. STOP mixing it up and blasted well be you!

What made you stand out from the rest of the pack in the BU jungle is what you wrote. ? Why the hell, would you think and write differently when your ability to expound factually and with evidence to prove (even when speculative) your particular subject was the enticement that captivated your reading audience? Why do you think persons were asking you to come home and run for government? They felt you would make a real change as the new dispensation of bajan politics.

I have no qualms about you running a DLP or even a BLP ticket. Christ, we were asking for new blood to change the infected blood filled with the sickness of greed on both sides of the political divide. You know that the DLP are responsible for the hell and high water problems currently faced. You also know that their bad mouthings are also responsible for the unpopularity and cynical position people have about them.

There is no defending their ignorance and the ignorance of the Prime Minister. They have provided evidence a-wuh-ma-ton to prove what people believe about them. So, Walter, the attributing blame game has long past its respective point with the other party. The baton is in the hands of the present and how they have used it has determined the state of Barbados current predicament and possibly what predicaments are to come in the future.

I can understand your pain concerning the suffering Barbadians are experiencing. All have a part to play in the problem, but the decision makers are the reasons why the problems have enveloped society, and why the current level of discipline is out of control and escalating. You must blame that on the policy makers who have the collective responsibility to chart the course of the SS Trident Barbados. Our captains are at fault for the ship’s sinking and their gathering of all that they could muster. Admittance is good for the soul; you should try telling that to your colleagues, who do shite and seek to justify it with more shite. Sorry about the language but that is just me.

  45. Now so called independent Senator John Watson is getting into this patriotism foolish talk.

He is contending that business people in Bridgetown are not lighting up their properties. What the hell is wrong with these dems? Chris Sinckler has imposed tax after tax on Barbadians while people like Butch Stewart who can afford to pay is given everything free for 40 years.

Businesses have been under pressure since the first budget in 2008 and have been reeling ever since hardly able to pay wages far less NIS. Are they going to take the little cash flow they have to buy bunting, flags and lights to make the government look good in front of their friends from the diaspora?

If the government wanted to display all this patriotism, knowing that businesses are under so much pressure, why did they not give the businesses the bunting, flags and lights out of the 7 million dollars they say they would spend come hell or high water?

    Go and sleep John Watson!

    You asked:

    @Caswell

Please confirm if a newly built kitchen roof at the Psychiatric Hospital caved in because of the recent rains. Is there a retainer in place, who will foot the bill to repair and who is the contractor.

When I first heard the story, I checked and was told that the ceiling caved in after water seeped through the concrete roof. I have no knowledge about any retainer fee and I would not dare ask my friend about such matters because that information would be traced right back to him.

I understand that the contractor is ADC Maintenance – the same people who were involved in the St. John Polyclinic.

  49. Thanks Caswell. Let us hope ADC makes good given the relatively short time the work was done.
