How much forex Rock Hard Cement using up and what’s the cost-benefit scenario? Is RHC wholly or partially manufactured in Barbados, and if not, will it meet the Caricom rules of origin for non-tariffs? If RHC is deemed to be an external good will it be able to compete with Arawak regionally? Will the company earn more Forex than arawak even if the repatriation of arawak earnings is considered? Multiplier effect/defect? #justasking.

That is all irrelevant.

Mark Maloney (MM) managed to get his DLP yard-dogs to remove the Arawak manufacturers’-protection import levies for cement. This was a secret deal between MM and government; no publicity, no consultancy, no association lobbying. One day it was there, the next it was gone. This has never happened in the 30 years I’ve been in business, usually the lobbying by local groups for similar consideration (application or removal of duties) takes years and accomplishes nothing, but not in this case. Very similar to the duty-free deal to operate Bushy Park as a profit-making private company rather than the National Home for Motor Sport as it was intended to be. Seeing a MOF trend yet?

RockHardSt.Lucia RockHardSt.Lucia_Page_1 RockHardSt.Lucia_Page_2

Cement was imported from Portugal by Hardrock and sold from the flour mill compound (how does any Bajan get to use gov’t property for profit without going through the tender process and years of lobbying?) at a lower price than Arawak, then Arawak lowered their prices in response.

Then Arawak’s mother-company Cemex (Mexican owners who bought Arawak’s Trini parent company after BDS Gov’t sold out our shares) bought the plant in Portugal which was supplying Hardrock.

So now Arawak has a functioning port, mixing plant, bagging plant, established Caribbean sales network, international supply network AND NO IMPORT DUTIES ON FINISHED GOODS THANKS TO MM AND HIS TEEFIN POLITICIAN FRIENDS.

Sounds like a self-solving problem to me.

For the sake of accuracy. I can categorically tell you that Bjerkhamm and Bizzy earned degrees in Engineering at UWI, St Augustine. I don’t know anything about the others.

When did accuracy become relevant to venting on a blog…or maybe I should say, even Headley (George) score a few ducks, so who is accurate all the time.

Some bloggers you can definitely take to the bank without counting one penny…dat money ac-cu- rate, like de Jeffmeister, de Franklanator, de Artaxian and de PieceNotOneDemrLordCzar …. They blog moreso under the Bradman rule of averages.

Others read and as often said, let Google be your friend if you really, really want to shake a stick at some of their commentary….LOLL!

    And good morning to all!

Are We There….I dont know about Bjerkham, who does not impress me in the least, but Bizzy was known as a dunce, you only need a good memory and regurgitation skills, you dont have to be a genius, but can still be a dunce…..genuises do not have to use scams and pay bribes to politicians to become millionaires…or billionaires….read Steve Jobs, of Apple, dropped out of uni….Bill Gates of Microsoft….dropped out of uni….Mark Zuck….Harvard..facebook was just a hobby….Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway is legendary.

That just re-enforces my argument of the limited intellect of both Bjerkham and Bizzy, that all they are capable of is corruption and scams against the people of Barbados…to appear to be millionaire leaders….dont let us start with the others, it could take all day…lol

The wannabe businessmen on the island are 2 bit crooks…not real businessmen in the true sense….you must read the contracts their 2 bit partners, the useless politicians, sign away to them sometime.

Ping Pong…how many contracts have you known Richard Branson et al to sign that disadvantages people in the US, Europe, stealing from taxpayers on a yearly basis 15 years at a time or 30 years at a time….read Cahill thiefing contract……neither Bizzy nor Bjerkham are capable of doing business withour shady contracts or bribing politicians…that is a sign of low intelligence.

Tell me how many politicians were bribed by Gates and Branson…the bribing came out of Bizzy’s mouth, he cant take it back…lol

Now that I have the attention of all the challengers, including Dompey’s cousin Pedant…and really good information from Ping Pong and Are We There….

It was reported in the press some years ago that Bjerkham was born in Norway…nothing wrong with that, for him to have attended UWI and done engineering he would have had to be in the island from a young age, it was reported he was there for over 60 years, I dont know if there were enginerring degrees available at UWI, but if true….he benefited from taxpayer funded education, so did Bizzy and all the others I named above, with the exception, according to him, of the grade school dropout Maloney, who worked for and still does, Cow, Bizzy, Bjrrkham et al…..

So yall are telling me that all these taxpayer funded educations and the best that lot can do is bribe politicians and create scam contracts to steal from the people in Barbados to become wealthy and treat the people who educated them as slaves, steal from the people decade after decade….that is the only thanks the taxpayers are getting…and they are grown ass old people who see nothing wrong with that….well maybe it’s deserved.

One things for sure…that gang of criminals can only do it to the simple minded, not to me or mine.

“Construction businessman Mark Maloney has indicated he was standing his ground on the erection of a concrete building for his cement company at Lots 3 and 7, which he has leased from owners, Barbados Port Authority.”

“He acknowledged receipt of the Town Planning’s directive to stop construction and remove the structure, but said there had been no reply from the department following an application to retain and complete the building.”

This is not a question for the legal maguffees. If that structure were erected by someone as an attachment to his unit at Eden Lodge, the Town Planning Department would have moved in with workmen to dismantle and cart away the rubble. They would have been accompanied by the news media for maximum effect.

In this you must check and see who or what is in Maloney’s back pocket.

We will watch to see if this does not suddenly fall into a black hole, the land is being leased from government….what happens to the structure after the lease expires, how long is the lease valid for, good thing that is land claimed from the sea and not some poor person’s land they stole.

  26. Permitted Development

Permitted Development is development that does not require the permission of Chief Town Planner or Minister, but is subject to statutory planning standards and other conditions as set out in the TCPDO, 1972 Order, such as building line, side and rear distances, plot coverage, and road reserve to which there must be adherence. However, Permitted Development is not unrestricted development, as there are limitations. It excludes all lands falling within the Scotland District for certain classes of development and all lands within Zone I of the Water Protection Area.

Permitted development public, may involve building development in all the major classes of development, sundry minor operations and the change of use of building and land to any use within the same Use Class. Invariably, however, there is a statutory requirement that the Chief Town Planner certifies plans of the development before the development begins as well as notification in writing to the Chief Town Planner of the start of the development.

  27. Help me out here, BU family…………is he allowed to build a permanent structure on leased lands?

Why is the same Port not speaking out ? Isn’t the dust affecting cruise ships as well?

You mean to tell me everybody is in this man’s back pocket?

Who would ever imagine that a black, black government would allow itself to be bought and sold by white, white people at the expense of the 95% black population?

  28. @Prodigal

If they are leased lands then the enforcement order should be on the Port?

  29. The important question is for the BLP and the next Prime Ministress of Barbados.

Will you make sure that the very first thing you do in Parliament is enact Integrity Legislation, an FOI act, immediate full disclosure of MP’s assets and liabilities and publicly tender all Government contracts?

    No more baloney.

  30. Permitted Development still requires permission and yes one can regularise an existing building or works BUT the siting of that cement plant in that location just seems to be WRONG and incompatible with the uses set out for that area.
A peek at the Bridgetown Community Plan within the NPDP shows that the land is designated as an Employment Area “to support a range of complementary and compatible employment uses in an environment which is functional, clean and aesthetic.” Flour and cement are neither complementary nor compatible!! So i can’t see the CTP approving (regularising) Maloney’s structure/operation, which does not accord with the NPDP.
Read it if wunna doubt me. #sueme

  31. Correction: I meant cement facility not plant.

  32. I agree with you, David. Then why is the Port silent?

    • Mr. Bjorn Bjerkhamn, B.Sc. Eng. (Hons), MBAPE

Bjorn Bjerkhamn graduated as a Civil Engineer from the University of the West Indies and was elected as a Corporate Member with the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers (BAPE) in 1975.

Since this time he has become one of the region’s most accomplished builders in the construction industry, having successfully developed some of Barbados’ premium properties.

He holds the position of Chairman in more than eighteen companies within the Jada Group, Preconco group of companies and Spring Homes Ltd., in addition to Directorship in many other organizations.

His continued success can be credited to his drive and assertive business philosophy, factors which continue to contribute to increasing foreign exchange and employment in Barbados. In January 2004 he was recognized for his contribution to the economic development of Barbados by the Barbados Tourism Board.

So…given that, why is corruption and scams a part of every business dealing…read Cahill…and who knows how many other scams seeing as both Philip Tempro and Maloney are his front men. Yall must talk to the workers for these companies one day, before the debut of Tempro, the wages were liveable, after Tempro, slave wages.

By the way, small island businessmen, when they are greedy and self-serving, do not impress me, read the court case that lasted 17 years at taxpayer’s expense, then Bjerkham decides he no longer wants the land in St. Lucy, destroyed a farming operation for greed…now the court has ordered him to purchase the land….too many people on here have short memories, the main reason nothing ever changes on the island….they need to only have long memories when it’s the destruction of each other’s lives.

The Bjerkham dude is no Warren Bufffett, no Bill Gates, no Mark Zuck…., no Steve Jobs, I am so not impressed.

It cannot affect me or mine, so too bad for those who like bending down and taking it without vaseline..lol

@David May 27, 2016 at 5:31 PM re “If they are leased lands then the enforcement order should be on the Port?”……

That is an interesting point you ave made there but a layman’s logic says that enforcement of necessity must be first and foremost to the lessee. The ENTIRE point of a lease contract is to transfer ‘all’ liabilities pertaining to the use and upkeep of the land/buildings from the lessor to the lessee with obvious consideration, of course.

Does a TCP request detail the OWNER of the land or rather the proprietor of the property requesting planning modification!

One imagines that if sanctions are being enforced that a lessor can also be enjoined for any omissions of his lessee but unless the lessor had himself broken rules in issuing the lease I would find it rough that as lessor I am liable for the ‘illegal’ act of my lessee.

@ProdigalSon, “Who would ever imagine that a black, black government would allow itself to be bought and sold by white, white people at the expense of the 95% black population?”

Surely your rhetorical query has an open ended start date, right. SURELY!!! Because I always go back to the same example of Douglas Lynch and his cronies… and that’s when I came of age, not when it started.

Of course, no start date not make this situation legitimate or acceptable but Barbados has been so long in this state of White power control that the pejorative term of Oreo is not too insulting or prejudiced in an objective parlay.

@Colonel Buggy re “We Bajans do not get tired of debating who was the real pioneer of free secondary education in Barbados etc etc, or who has attended a brand name school…”

But why and how can we??? Every human being must have some competitive advantage over or neighbour, fellow church member, friend and sometimes even our spouse. It’s basic human nature.

So if you went to Harvard or Oxford generally everyone in your sphere just happens to know that directly or indirectly. Some of us need to get that Bmer X5 or have the better lawn or install that pool. And some are just better looking than the other’s wife or girlfriend.

Thus this Kolig or St. Michael’s thing is just a pecking order strut…we start with which school we attended and move up or down the list in order to best our adversary.

When all else fails the fact that at 11 Jill passed for HC and you didn’t allows Jill to feel superior because your conjugations and speech is oh so improper and lacking of class!

Although you own half the damn country she is so offended that you are actually in her social circles…until she can get some of your business and money of course.

We must feel good about ourselves after all….however we can. Really nothing fundamentally wrong about that…it’s called hypocrisy!!! Basic human nature.

Colonel….it’s because the politicians on the island are greedy and slimy, they have no love of or sense of self and care even less for the people who elected, regardless of which school they eent to, nothing lowclass is above them…they have no problem allowing semi literate businessmen or half assed ‘whites’ lead them around by their necks as long as they can pocket millions in bribes, that’s why you are seeing lowgrade business people like Bizzy, Cow, Bjerkham, Leroy Parris, Peter Harris, Philip Tempro, Hallam Nichols et al control government ministers while destroying the economy by removing millions of dollars from the island..

The audior general’s report clearly shows the mindset prevailing throughout the ministries of government. …a clear trickle down effect from the mindset of all the ministers and politicians of both political parties….they refuse to remove the business people from the political landscape, who are not contributing any positive, meaningful or longlasting way to the island, but continue to be allowed by ministers of government to suck every contract, leaving nothing for others in the society to work with…DBLP refuses to distribute contracts to small businessmen and women because it will take too many years to see kickbacks, they want their bribes and they want them now, before they are thrown out of office….to hell with the economy and the population…that is why yhey have stuck the people with the above parasites….it’s a repetitive cycle of greed and arrogance

Bjerkham had no right being on the board of the central bank, just as Leroy Parris’ stolen Clico money had no right being laundered in the central bank. this clearly shows just how weak government ministers have become.

The politicians are yet to realize that they themselves are the weakest link destroying any progress the country made, by keeping those parasites at their sides.

Goodluck getting rid of any of them…to get rid of one in Africa, they reported poisoned him, they do not let go, just look at the stance Maloney is taking and he is just the errand boy for the others..what can the lazy, greedy politicians do, they have already taken bribes from them all, let’s see what Peter Harris friend the DPP Leacock can do they are all compromised and useless to the people.

  45. According to the Act, the notice is served on the owner AND occupier, and if necessary any other person having an interest in the land. Maloney’s action to continue to build in defiance of the notice is egregious and says a lot about where we are as a society. Maloney has the right to apply for permission or appeal to a Judge in chambers; but not to continue to build pending a decision.
This is just a culmination of what started with Coverley, the gas station and egress at Coverley–the sore has festered.

  46. @enuff

Thank you,the owner of the land cannot be omitted from the transaction.

  47. We should all be thankful to Maloney.

He has singlehandedly demonstrated to all Bajans the true mentality of the albino types who dictate things behind the scenes in Barbados.
Too many of us have been mis-led by the Johns, the Money Brains, the Tony Coziers and the Vincents who have typically been given the PR roles of espousing how considerate, fair and patriotic the minority albino-centrics of Barbados have been, and how lucky we have been to have them in control of our asse(t)s.

Common sense should have told us that fair-minded persons like Money B ..COULD NOT perpetrate an apartheid system such as we have.
Common sense should have told us that simple minded academics such as John ..does not have the level of malice to maintain the kind of Barbados that we have… It takes ‘Botha’ types and ‘Rhodes’ types to run roughshod over hoards of blacks….

No coincidence that Maloney has been selected as frontman for the rich image-builders who now want to cultivate more moderate images.

Clearly, it takes persons like Maloney, who are willing to bring out the whip to the nigga politicians; to openly defy the judicial authorities; to do what he wants, when he wants, where he wants and how he wants …. to ensure that 80% of local assets remain under 5% control.

Persons such as he, A Fields, A King etc are the real movers and shakers of apartheid, while the PR pawns come on BU and in various outer areas to mislead bowls about their altruism.

Thanks to Maloney, we can no longer HONESTLY say that we did not know that this lot of albino-centrics who are seeking to enlarge their mental plantations, are EXACTLY like their grand parents …who had us enslaved on physical plantations….

    Well Well & Consequences

Well put Bushman. .but many black people will still not get it, because they continue to listen to the idiots whose jobs it is to keep that plantation mentality alive and well within the minds of the black majority.

This is make or break, let’s watch and see just how broken and weakened the politicians and office of the DPP have become,…we know the Acting Commissioner and police force have reduced themselves to boys for the crook Bizzy… the remainder is yet to be seen, soon come, let’s see.

None of the minority business people needed advanced education or degrees to do what they have done on the island, it was a slam dunk….the black politicians with all their degrees, and advanced education, love of titles and status and wanting to be seen with semilerate 2 bit crooks, have been useless asses to their own people for 50 years.

We now have a measuring stick.

  49. The sturdy, hurricane and tidal wave resistant building Mahoney is constructing will remain if David Jean-Marie and the PA can justify its use for approved shelter for goods or services compatible to existing plant and neighbours.Cement and flour is definitely like old wooden house, friction and gasoline. So the order by the TP will exclude Mahoney’s initial ‘purpose of construction’ but is amenable to other approved use so there is no need to demolish the structure.Simply to deny original intent if what’s in the public domain is credible.
