As writers we have long embraced the catastrophic. Of course, some amongst us seek to superimpose the sublime as archetypal counterpoint. As species all we see is catastrophe, in every sphere of existence.
The pretenders to the United States presidency humanize a consciousness of universal dark energy supremacy. Together they represent a constellation of political forces digging deeper and deeper into all that is to vomit the darkest of primordial lava, competing to be the worst of the worst.
Mature people tend to detect a steady, generational, cultural, decline. But youngsters are not persuaded by this logic of convenience. They are reluctant to see a linear degeneration into this abyss. They may well detect a straight line between the political actors of today with the ‘great’ figures of yesteryear.
Nothing, any of the would-be political stars has to say or would do, if empowered, could have the effect of moving us into the light. Should the Sun appear to shine on a woman, it does not mean that she has Pachamama blessings. It may be better to surmise that the darkest of darkness has won over darkness.
The darkest of darkness is sometimes proceeded by daylight. This threat of entering a deeper black hole may indeed summon revolutionary forces in the streets of Philadelphia, in the streets of Cleveland, this summer, like erupting volcanoes, insistent on conquering the devilish ideology being preached nearby.
