How Will Bajans Respond to Ministerial Statement?

Submitted by Old Onion Bags

Maybe the Bajan gene is too docile?… .more Ashanti slaves enroute to Jamaica should have been dropped.

****************
How often we hear Bajans are too passive. They will always ‘suffer in silence’ rather than as other Caribbean brothers, vocally object to a wrong.

Take for example, during this past six years of austerity measures whereby 3,000 government workers were affected by layoffs and another 4,000 in private…to date there has been very little objection by the dispirited to show their displeasure. A Value Added Tax increase from 15% to 17.5%, a quelling Consolidation Tax on incomes and a dissonant Solid Waste Tax, yet hardly any vociferation.  Could it be that Barbadians like it so, or are we just too lazy to stray from our humdrum path of normality?

We are told Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler, in a ministerial statement is about to inform Barbadians of further measures to augment a $174 million deficit, bringing further hardships and suffering to an already downtrodden spirited people and economy.

What will be the response by Barbadians to such news? For sure there will be less Farmer’s Choice and sorrel, and even less commercial activity to welcome in the New Year.  Bearing in mind December is the most profitable business month for most business enterprises (big and small) would this dampening of growth not be counter-productive to our goals? As to expressing one’s feelings and concerns, rest assured there will be little or  none….such is not encouraged other than on social media formats.

Long Live social media!

  • Some people can say a mouth full without saying anything. Have to wait until April to see what is in store. This administration is so full of suspense that it’s like a Thriller movie.

So this is Christmas and I had plans for my Income tax return chris.

  • And … what is the analysis of the ministerial statement?

After being told at a press conference that the budget would be in a few weeks – we were told only last that a ministerial statement would be made on December 16 and we are discussing here …

    I pass.

“I am glad that you are willing to ask Reudon Eversley and Hartley Henry for their opinions of the DLP and as a fair and open – minded Loyal Barbadian, you can also ask a former BLP leader Owen Arthur about his views on Mia Mottley and if she should be trusted with political leadership.”

    Point taken…… fair is fair.

But I think you seem to be missing one important point, neither Mottley nor Arthur is either prime minister or minister of finance of Barbados. The electorate will have to take the ramblings within the BLP and the rift between Mottley and Arthur into consideration before deciding to vote for that political party as their choice to govern the affairs of this island.

However, the electorate also have plenty things to consider about this poor, inept DLP administration. And among those are the failure of the minister of finance and by extension the governor of the Central Bank; each time after either those two say the economy is growing, Standard and Poors or Moody’s usually downgrade the island, thereby indicating Sinckler and Worrell have been misleading the public; Fruendel Stuart parading about Barbados impersonating a Prime Minister; the former Beautify Barbados and NCC being retrenched since April, and 8 months have passed without them receiving severance payments; failure to implement freedom of information and integrity legislation; failure to implement the code of conduct for ministers [I’m sure if that code was in effect Denis Lowe would have to answer for the $766,855.24 fee Richard Byer charged CBL]; poor governance……..

No matter how much you highlight the Nation, it will not change the fact that this DLP administration has demonstrated they CANNOT govern the affairs of this island.

“One of the issues that I would like all media houses ( TV, Radio, print, etc) to do is to stop bringing people who are clearly politically aligned and politically motivated and asking them to comment on issues as if they are independent.”

A very good point. However, I hope when you thought about what you have written, you included Maureen Holder, John Lovell and Rosemary Alleyne and ask them “to stop bring people who are clearly politically aligned and politically motivated and asking them to comment on issues as if they are independent”, on CBC 100.7FM “Talk ya Talk” or CBC [DLP] TV 8 “The People’s Business”.

I hope you admonish CBC [DLP] TV 8 for the “Evening News” being dominated by DLP events, or the DLP using the Barbados Government Information Service as their public relations media.

Look, what sense does it make for you to waste money buying the Nation to read and comment about how biased the paper and its columnist are, when you can buy the Advocate to read Guyson Mayers [I’m sure since he writes in favour of the DLP, you will consider him to be unbiased] or watch CBC TV.

If you are unsatisfied with BU because, as you previously indicated, many of us on this blog criticize the DLP, perhaps it would best for you to peruse the DLP’s official web-site and read articles by “Douglas”.

You are making yourself an ass and a nuisance by coming to the blog with this childish Nation shiite, when the other media houses are guilty of the same practices you are accusing the paper of.
