One approach to providing healthy food alternatives to his neighbours, many or most of whom are accustomed to eating large amounts of disease inducing fast foods as a regular part of their daily food intake, comes from a guerrilla gardener and activist in South Central LA by the name of Ron Finley.

“South Central LA, home of the drive-thru, and the drive-by,” Finley says. “Funny thing is, the drive-thrus are killin’ more people than the drive-bys. People are dying from curable diseases in South Central LA.” – Ron Finley

  1. Interesting indeed.

  2. Whatever. We have delved into food for so long with ignorant postings making its way into decent discussions…. some giving good advice. Some being totally ‘chuped!!! I personally have nothing more to say for I have already posted the words…many times…very few seeing the future…and now? when you look at our food bill?? hello?????? the questions are still being asked again???? What?? Do we admit to an island of people in high places not seeing the light of death…. yes we do and we like it so. Give me a break!!!!

  3. The word is HEALTH.

  4. Got some grow-it-myself breadfruit, spinach. and cucumbers this weekend.

People say teenagers don’t want to grow and or eat their own food. But my little Johnny grew the cucumbers which we have started to eat this week, and will eat for the next few weeks.

    Grow it. Eat it.

  5. Way to go Simple Simon I hope you shared some with friends.

  6. yes, SS. I also grow my own food organically. All heritage plants or seeds. Last weekend, some light fingered person stole three savoy cabbages. This weekend all my Hungarian peppers. You would not mind them taking one, but three? or all? My horse and cow shit cost me $3. for 20 litres, plus the high cost of heritage seeds, the forking, weeding and watering, for others to go harvest. Well, I fixed some veggies for them today. they wont get sick, just have the shits.

  7. I always share and people always give me free food.

Cheeze on bread Pat. I didn’t know that they had predial larcenists up in Canada too?.

You didn’t put Epson or Glauber’s salts on the things did you?

  8. Pat you need to put up some surveillance cameras to catch the thief. Where was security? Set a trap with fishing line and old cans on a box, set up some alarm system. You work too hard in the garden for a neighbour to come and steal.
