One of Montreal’s most flamboyant City Councilors Mr. Marvin Rotrand will be visiting Barbados 03rd to 08th March 2009.
This first time visit by Mr. Rotrand is a real (great) opportunity for Barbados government officials to meet the councilor and dialogue on (discuss) matters related to Public Transportation and the work carried out by the Montreal base not-for profit organizations Access Barbados group and the Barbados House Montreal Inc.
Sharing knowledge with the City Councillor could be an important key to overcoming some of the economic climate in Barbados especially in the Public Transportation Sector, and matters related to developing a vibrant Jewish Tourism program originating from Montreal.
Councillor Rotrand is the Deputy leader of the Majority Council, the Vice President of the Speakers Committee and the Vice President of the Montreal Transport Commission (MTC). He is also President of the Financial Committee managing a budget of $1.038 Billon, and President of the Customer Service Committee. The MTC operates nearly 1600 buses and 750 subway cars.
Of significant importance to the Barbadian community in Montreal, Mr. Rotrand presides the Intercultural Commission of the Bourgh of Cote des Neiges – Notre Dame de Grace, One of Montreal’s most diverse Multicultural and Multiracial communities. The mandate is to promote tolerance and understanding and support the community organizations in their efforts to preserve their Canadian identity.
Councillor Rotrand has racked up a significant social, cultural and community record as he work towards creating a safer and unified community and help make it easier for commuters using public transportation in Montreal. Rotrand is also noted for his work that led to the City’s initial affirmative action programs for the hiring of minorities and women.
As in previous years, Mr. Rotrand will be involved with Access Barbados again as the group presents “Experience Barbados” 11th to 13th September 2009 in Montreal.
Access “Experience Barbados” event will be a showcase of Barbados Tourism products, business, goods and services, arts, crafts and culture. It is hoped that a risk management session can be added to enhance this event. The organizers are very optimistic and are appealing to the Barbadian hotel sector, business sector, culture and arts sectors to support the initiative.
