Egan-Chin/News/Charelle Carroll with Aunt Katharen Drakes.
The Nation newspaper reported in its 15 March edition that 8 year old Charelle Carroll was seriously injured in an accident while crossing the ABC Highway on the 4 February 2008, while in the company of her friend and cousin. Unfortunately Charrelle received brain damage but despite the best effort of the local Queen Elizabeth Hospital there was swelling of the brain which has caused complications. A plea to the public to raise funds to enable Charelle to travel to the USA for urgent medical attention has turned out to be a painful process. It really should be of concern to Barbadians that a young child’s life should be placed in jeopardy while her poor parents run around Barbados begging for donations.
In a world which is often characterized by things which are negative we are pleased to report this morning that there is HOPE! A family friend of the injured girl Angela Moses appealed to the Downstate Medical Center in New York for help, and the hospital agreed to take Charelle as a patient. It appears from this report that she was flown to New York on Thursday and the hospital has already started to ‘evaluate her injuries and working on a treatment and rehabilitation plan.’ For this little girl who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident she has shown that she has the will to survive.
On this Easter period when Christians remember and celebrate the great sacrifice that Jesus Christ gave to mankind, the BU household is heartened by the actions of all those who have reached out to save the precious life of Charelle Carroll. May God continue to walk by her side. We also take this opportunity to appeal to motorists in Barbados to exercise caution on our roads. Equally we appeal to the government and relevant authorities to ensure that intelligent planning go into how our road and traffic management is engaged.
Happy Easter to Christians everywhere.
