Despite all the assurances given by the Fair Trading Commission and the Nation newspaper, who way back in December promised to print full list of winners ‘soon’, absolutely nothing has appeared. And to add insult to injury, guess what is again appearing in the Nation Newspaper today (Sunday 15th March 2008), the Barbados Lucky Numbers ‘WIN $10,000 TODAY!’ with the same ‘winning number 0083526’. The Operator, Opera Interactive (Barbados) Ltd, whose parent company in the United Kingdom was implicated and found guilty in over 20 blatant breaches of regulations involving the defrauding of millions of Pounds Sterling, also gave written assurance to the FTC that they would print the winners.

Is our Fair Trading Commission a joke?

The last communication I had from a Government agency, was a letter typed on 13 February 2008, but not mailed or received until last week from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Commerce, stating ‘I acknowledge receipt of your correspondence dated December 14, 2007 and wish to advise you that your complaint has been referred to the Fair Trading Commission for appropriate action’. Signed A.R. Nicholls, For Permanent Secretary

How can any credible regulatory body allow this situation to continue?

  1. Do you have a consumer organization who can sue the newspaper?

  2. I saw it whilst reading the paper at work at wondered the same thing to myself. The nation newspaper is guilty of “aiding and abeding” the crime against gullible bajan citizens. All for the price of the advertising dollar. (and it can’t be too much cause the ad is small)

  3. I think somebody should be hauled over the coals for this. The media entities should look into this and stop selling their souls for a piece of advertising money.
