Four weeks after the first Barbados Lucky Numbers ‘ads’ starting appearing on CBC TV Channel 8 and in the Nation the same ‘winning number’, 0083526 is still being shown.

Entrants to the competition are invited to call or text at a cost of $2.30 per time and the public is left to guess exactly how much the operator, Opera Interactive (Barbados) Ltd, have amassed in high cost calls so far. After first denying any connection between this company and UK based Opera Telecom, the General Manager of a company that she identified as Opera Interactive Caribbean, Joanne Nugent, it was later revealed that the CEO of Opera Telecom, Gary Corbett, was indeed a director of Opera Interactive (Barbados) Ltd.

Opera Telecom, were recently ordered to pay by the regulatory body in the UK a record fine equivalent of over BDS$1 million for systematically defrauding UK competition contestants over a near four year period.Despite the obvious connection between Opera Telecom and

Opera Interactive (Barbados) Ltd share at least one common directorship, our Fair Trading Commission has so far refused to take action.

This is a fair indication of how our leaders side with dishonest ones in society to rob us the innocent people of this island, funny enough they seem not to care about the rape either, I bet if one of their family were to get hurt it would be different.
Sorry I forgot their family would never get involved in things like this because most of their bank accounts are too healthy to bother them these are the actions of the sick excuse that we have as politicians for you.

  2. Yesterday morning two suitcases with firearms, ammunition, two grenades, 84 lbs. of marijuana destined for Barbados were intercepted at Cheddi Jagan Airport in Guyana and three people are now in Police custody in Guyana.
And the Prime Minister and Norman Faria don’t want Barbados Customs and immigration officials to ask Guyanese anything once they reach Barbados.
Just open the door and let them in!

Here is the link to the Guyana newspaper story. David

  3. When things like this happen it certainly can make anybody question whether we are serious about First World status. In the UK or USA this company would have been sued as well as the media house!

When I see comments like the ones previously posted threatening the lives of myself and my wife and stating they are going to burn down our hotel, I seriously wonder just what sort of people are behind these remarks.

Has no-one the right to question what at best can be considered dubious practices and utterings?

Then I look at all the positives we have been able to achieve.
For instance, simply type BARBADOS into Google News which searches over 4,500 sources and the first article that comes up is one appearing this weekend in the New York Sunday Times, AFFORDABLE CARIBBEAN.

Only two accommodation providers are mentioned in a feature that will be read by millions of people.

Sea U Guest House and Peach and Quiet.

  6. Adrian you have my sympathy because it shows how ignorant some using these blogs are. They have no intelligence, education or loyalty to any political party or to their Nation Barbados. These people are destructive elements and were the truth known and contrary to what some try to make you believe these folk are not responsible BLP members because decent BLP members are decent Bajans not lowlifes!

They simply have a giant size inferiority complex and nothing to add that can help anyone including the obvious sad shape they are in mentally.

I am quickly coming to the conclusion that to continue participating on these blogs is doing me no good and even less to the many causes that 95% of the commenters are genuinely trying to find solutions to.

You and your wife are cussed and threatened in the most vile, vulgar terms and most sit silently by and say nothing.

I use a little off color humour like get the KY jelly out that pales by comparison to every day jokes, language etc all over the world not to mention the language and threats used against you and your family and I have 6 or 7 of the regulars trying to run me off the blogs. “FOR ERODING THE LEVEL OF THE BLOG”. Does this not tell you something about what WE are up against here from a FEW!

I personally do not need that in my life when trying to contribute to the good of Barbados and ALL Barbadians. And in your case I really do not know how you put up with it.

  7. Adrian L we sympathize and wish to remind you that politics is a nasty game sometimes. As you know we can’t always monitor the blog 24/7 so some of these comments will slip through from time time to time. The good thing about it, if there can be such a thing, other Barbadians can see some of the dark side of our society.

  10. Maybe if you just don’t enter the lottery, you won’t be at risk. How about making people take responsibility for themselves sometimes?
