The U.S. midterm elections will be held on the 3 November, 2026. In this mid-term election all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives will be contested. Additionally, 35 of the 100 Senate seats will be on the ballot, and 39 states will choose Governors. These are the elections of note although other contests at the local level will be in play.

Obviously a small open economy like Barbados is greatly influenced by policy decisions taken by the US – mainly because the Barbados dollar is pegged to the US dollar. Two obvious examples of the significant influence:

  1. The decision by the US to engage in military action with Iran. The consequences of which have been the rise of fuel prices because of disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
  2. Although Barbados is not a major exporter of goods to the US, Trump tariffs have resulted in a negative impacte indirectly via slow down in US travel, import costs and other knock-on impacts.

Although several models have predicted a swing to Democrats tomorrow night, the final outcome is highly anticipated given what is perceived by the rest of the world as a strange period in U.S. politics under President Donald Trump’s period in office.

There is no doubt that Trump’s presidency has delivered a raft of tariffs, trade disputes, supply chain disruption, geopolitical pressures- to name a few- all of which continue to create global uncertainty. An environment that is not suited to good planning and decision making.

One suspects that many global citizens will be hoping that late tomorrow night and early Wednesday morning a strong message is delivered to the Republicans that enough is enough!

  1. The midterms are a fait accompli. This is all the fools you so deeply think that democracy is so integral can do. They only response. Jumping from pillar to post. Like assholes! The issues of moment are the advanced plans by a mad man to use nuclear weapons on Iran, as early as the day after. But of course such people will continue to eat and drink and like old man river this tooo will role off the bent backs of the lovers of voting, the nonexistent democracy.

  2. If EVER there was a global situation that qualifies as a ‘PERFECT STORM’ we are living it in November 2026.
Every possible smelly shiite that can be contemplated now seem to have chosen to PEAK at the same time…

From our petty political brassbowleries here in Brassbados …to the completely illogical genocide and conflicts in the Middle East …to the suicidal idiocy in Ukraine …and the implosions in France and the rest of Europe, it SURELY must be clear to any thinking BB that a NEW LEVEL of EVIL has been unleashed on our Earth.

    Shiite!
Even the earth itself is undergoing convulsions of unprecedented scale…
El Nino has decided to be at its worse on record
Massive 7+ earthquakes occur sequentially in short order
Heat, flooding, storms, volcanic activity, drought…
Fuel crises, tariffs, supply chain chaos, food prices…

    …and then we have Trump!
…perhaps the MOST stupid and spoilt brat to have ever survived into his seventies – AND AMERICANS ACTUALLY RE-ELECTED HIM AS PRESIDENT, rather than lock his ass up as the convicted felon that he is…

LOL – Dem Murkans even more bewitched than we brass bowl Bajans den…!

If wunna STILL fail to see the unstoppable hands of KARMA, …fast tracking centuries of retribution upon the donkeys of the WICKED, then wunna gotta be as dumb as a certain people whose national assets are ALL owned by strangers, whose children are lost and without hope for a future, and whose fields and hill are back with the plantation owner types.

2026 has actually been such a REALLY BAD year that it SHOULD have set us thinking about the REAL priorities of Life on this Earth…
However we (like the frog in the hot water,) have acclimatized ourselves to the lotta shiite… and have convinced ourselves that ‘it is NOT that much worse than the previous year…’
So we have continued with our albino-centric priorities.. our GDP, our FDI, our tourism plans… our parties and fetes.

Unfortunately, as bad as it is, this is just the calm before that perfect storm…and the US mid-terms may just be the fuse that brings it to the boil.

What a time to be alive!
…at the culmination of project ‘Life on Earth – Phase 1’

    …

  3. I bet I will raise my glass and toast the New Year once again. As I did last year. And the year before. And the year before. And the year before. The direct line to God that some people claim to have was troubled by static, it seems.

The world is in a earth-shattering state of flux, it is true. But I will not be one peering into the sky for “lo, he comes in clouds descending”.

I can understand though, why some people would be. They need certainty. I can accept that there can be none, especially if is based on a collection of contradictory books and epistles written by MEN.

El Nino steered the dreaded hurricanes away from Barbados. It took the needed tropical waves too. But the forecasts are for rain. And already, my tank and barrels are overflowing. MY SON cannot keep up with the grass. And the clouds are showing their silver linings.

  4. The battle of good versus evil is not a short one. Democracy is imperfect, as every other system is and would be. Corruption, if not constantly monitored by the masses, will grow and take over. For the last several decades, the masses relaxed, thinking the battle had been won. But the forces of evil did not sleep, they kept on planning and working and have reversed almost everything that the masses had gained.

There is still daylight between the Dems and the Magats. A slither of light that should not be ignored. Therefore, voting is not useless.

There would have been no war on Iran if the Democrats were in power. And yet, though the war in Iran brings suffering throughout the world, the silver lining could be the warp speed collapse of the brutal Amerikkkan Empire.

Nobody knows for sure how good or bad that will turn out to be for us in the Caribbean. A multipolar world, with Amerikkka’s full focus on the western hemisphere, may leave us more under their control than before. Still, Brazil is a thorn in their side right now. We’ll have to see what happens.

The race, they say, is not for the swift, but for he or SHE who endures ’til the end. The end though, will never come … unless “lo, HE comes in clouds descending” fuh true. Or in a billion years or more when the sun burns itself out.
