When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He stressed one point – we are forgiven in a similar way that we forgive others.  Hear Jesus.

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12)

Jesus immediately clarified this issue.

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”  (Matthew 6:14-15)

To ensure that we would be without any excuse, Jesus gave us an example.

“Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.  And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.  But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made.

“The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’  Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.

“But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’

“So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’  And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt.

“So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done.

“Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.  Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’  And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.

“So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”  (Matthew 18:23-35)

Please note the sequence of events.  First, the debt was forgiven completely.  Then, because the person who was forgiven chose not to forgive someone else, the forgiven debt was unforgiven and became owed.

May we forgive in the same manner that we want to be forgiven – entirely.

Is God’s forgiveness conditional according to your report of the event?. The problem with reported events is that we are never sure what was actually said and what is the view /interpretation of the reporter. How much of the first century cultural practices influence what was reported.

AFTER ALL THAT WE GO THROUGH CHOOSING TO FORGIVE IS A HEALING BALM

Perhaps the most important of these blessings is that as we forgive others, WE CAN BE FORGIVEN OF OUR OWN SINS. The Lord teaches us that forgiving others is a universal commandment—we are “REQUIRED TO FORGIVE ALL MEN”.

Yet even when we are aware of the importance of forgiveness, it may be difficult to forgive. Sometimes we allow pride, fear, resentment, or bitterness to discourage us and block our ability to feel hope. BUT THE COURAGE TO FORGIVE COMES TO THOSE WHO PUT THEIR FAITH AND TRUST IN THE LORD. With His help, we can find the strength to forgive others—whether the wrongdoer has committed a serious sin or an unintended offense. Here are a few suggestions.

UNDERSTAND WHAT FORGIVENESS IS. To forgive is to pardon an offense. It is to let go of blame for a past hurt. It is to release a great burden. It is to move ahead with life.

UNDERSTAND WHAT FORGIVENESS IS NOT. Forgiveness does not require condoning a wrong, nor does it require allowing a harmful behavior, such as an abusive relationship, to continue. Also, FORGIVENESS IS NOT FORGETTING—if the offense wounded you enough to require forgiveness, you will likely have a memory of it.

UNDERSTAND THAT FAILING TO FORGIVE MAGNIFIES THE PAIN. Pain, disappointment, and injustice touch every life, often wounding tender hearts. Resisting the urge to place blame is key to our ability to forgive. In order to fully heal, we need to accept responsibility for our reaction to whatever happens. Taking responsibility for the condition of our hearts allows us to regain control of our lives. Although we cannot always control what happens to us, WE CAN ALWAYS CHOOSE OUR RESPONSE. Herein lies the power of our agency.

PRAY FOR HUMILITY. Humility is the opposite of pride, which is the primary obstacle in our effort to forgive.

EXPRESS GRATITUDE. Expressing gratitude invites the Spirit more fully into our lives, which can soften and change our hearts.

BE PATIENT. Forgiving when our pain is great may take time. We can make room for forgiveness through earnest prayer, study, and contemplation. Feasting upon the words of Christ daily will also help us draw closer to Him and will bring great healing power into your life.

LEAVE THE PAST BEHIND. The past is written in stone and cannot be changed. Focus our energy on today, for today you have the power to choose to forgive.

TRUST THAT GOD WILL BE THE PERFECT JUDGE. It is required to forgive all men. As we forgive, we must have enough faith to allow Christ’s judgment to be judgment enough. He will bring both mercy to the humble and justice to the wicked. Rest assured that God’s judgment would be thorough and fair.

CAST OUR BURDEN ON THE LORD. Christ beckons, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Remember that in addition to taking upon Him the sins of the world, Christ took upon Him our pains and infirmities IF WE ALLOW HIM, HE CAN MAKE OUR BURDEN LIGHT.

It can be difficult to find the strength to forgive, but the Savior and His Atonement make it possible. As we look to God for the strength to forgive and set aside our pride, fear, resentment, and bitterness, we feel hope and peace.

  13. Matthew 7:6 KJV –

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend.

WHAT GOD WAS SAYING IS THAT YOU GIVE A GIFT TO SOMEONE WHEN THEY WILL RECEIVE IT WITH GRATITUDE.

We who have had Children will not give an Expensive Gift unless we know that the child will take care of it. If your child picks up his toys and smashes them to the ground would you give him a Radio Control vehicle to play with? As he shows in maturity and Respect for those things he has been given, he will be given better gifts and as he grows respecting what he has, he will receive more and more better gifts up to and including ALL THAT YOU OWN as an Inheritance.

To Give a Gift to someone that does not appreciate it, the scripture they will act like a dog and bite your hand or act like a pig and trample it…THUS IT WOULD OF NO BENEFIT THE RECEIVER OR THE GIVER OF THE GIFT.

THE GREATEST GIFT THAT WE CAN RECEIVE FROM GOD IS FORGIVENESS HE GAVE HIS LIFE THAT WE CAN BE FORGIVEN BECAUSE HE PAID THE PRICE AND THAT GIFT OF FORGIVENESS ALLOWS US TO LIVE IN HIS PRESENCE… Although it is available to All persons we make ourselves willing to receive it and that Preparation is Called Repentance. So to Answer your question You Have to Change and Repent to Receive Forgiveness.

Repentance is a Process where the Old You Dies and the New You is Born that is why there is Always this talk of Death and Birth repeated in the Scriptures. It is the Death of the old and the Birth of the New, Like how you take a seed and burry it in the ground and by and by new life emerges out of the earth.

To Give another Example would you invite a Murderer to your home to meet all your family Wife and Children while he is still an Unrepentant Murderer? Would you not be inviting Evil into your home where the most Precious things we associate with are?

If you were Unrepentant, why would God Invite you to his home with all the Saints and goodly People if you would bring Mayhem?

Forgiveness is on Condition of Repentance…Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and on Receiving His Gift we may receive Forgiveness. No unclean thing can Enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

  14. Hi Vincent:

Forgiveness is a multifaceted issue. Jesus appeared to explain each facet so that we would be without excuse.

God forgives us unconditionally. He forgives us entirely as if our sin had never happened. The slate is wiped clean. We simply have to ask to be forgiven and we are. Whatever wrong we have done is thrown into the sea of forgetfulness.

We have a responsibility to forgive others in the same manner that we want God to forgive is – entirely. However, if we do nor forgive others in this manner, then we have a problem. We pray that God will forgive us in the same manner as we forgive others.

God appears to answer our prayer by retrieving our sin, and making us accountable for it once again. Hear Jesus on this.

“So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” (Matthew 18:23-35)

Now we may ask whether God is fair or not. However, let us understand His standard of forgiveness, and be guided accordingly.

I am fully aware that this goes against the teaching of some sincere Bible teachers, who claim that once forgiven always forgiven. However, the measure should be the words of Jesus. Why? Hear God Himself.

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:5b)

  15. Miller:

The Old Testament Mosaic teachings were given to the Israelites.

The New Testament teachings were given to all people. Hear Jesus compare His teachings to that of Moses.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I [Jesus – who will judge you at the end of the age] tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.” (Matthew 5:38-42)

Why should we listen to Jesus? Hear God’s response.

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:5b)

  16. ROMANS 11:29 TEACHES For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

  17. Hi Miller:

Please also note that Moses was both a religious and state ruler. The eye-for-an-eye was a maximum sentencing guideline to be carried out by the community.

Jesus’ commandments were for the individual, who was to govern his/her self.

  18. TEN THINGS GOD DOES WITH OUR SINS
    1. He forgives our transgression (Ps. 32:1,5).
David sought and received God’s forgiveness. The Hebrew word for forgiven literally means “lifted off.” The image was portrayed in John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress. Bunyan’s protagonist, Christian, was weighed down by the burden of his sin. When he came to the cross, the sin burden fell from his shoulders, rolled down a hill, and disappeared into an empty tomb.
    2. He covers our sin (Ps. 32:1; Rom. 4:7).
This imagery is taken from the Day of Atonement. On this day the high priest took blood from a sacrificial animal, carried it into the Most Holy Place, and sprinkled it on the mercy seat of the ark of the covenant (a chest that contained the Ten Commandments). The sprinkled blood symbolically covered the broken law and shielded the sinner from judgment.
It’s significant that when David stopped trying to cover up his sin (v. 5), God “covered” it (v. 1). When something is covered, it’s hidden from view. God puts our sin out of His sight.
    3. He does not charge us with iniquity (Ps. 32:2; Rom. 4:8).
This is what God does not do with our sin —He no longer counts our sin against us. “Charge” is a bookkeeping term. This is the imagery Paul used in Romans 4. God charges our sin to Jesus’ ledger (who bore our penalty) and writes Jesus’ righteousness into our ledger and credits us with His righteousness (Rom. 4:8-25).
    4. He removes our sins from us (Ps. 103:12; John 1:29).
How far does God remove our sin from us? “As far as the east is from the west” (Ps. 103:12)—an immeasurable distance. East and west will never meet.
    5. He washes away our guilt and cleanses us from our sin (Ps. 51:2; Isa. 1:18; 1 John 1:9).
Sin leaves a mark or a stain only God can wipe away. He washes it away “completely” (Ps. 51:2).
    6. He throws all our sins behind His back (Isa. 38:17).
In a metaphorical sense, God puts all our sins behind His back so that He does not see them any more.
    7. He sweeps away our transgressions (Isa 43:25; 44:22).
Our unconfessed sins hang over us like a dark cloud, but God promises to sweep them away like the rising sin burns away the morning mist (Isa. 44:22)
    8. He remembers our sins no more (Isa. 43:25; Jer. 31:34; Heb. 8:12; 10:16-17).
When God forgives our sins; He forgets them. That means He no longer holds our sins against us.
    9. He casts all our sins into the depths of the sea (Mic. 7:18-19).
God casts (hurls) our sins into the sea, where they sink like a stone. Such an act of grace caused Micah to ask, “Who is a God like you …?” (Mic. 7:18).
    10. He nailed our sin debt to the cross (Col. 2:14).
God not only erases our sin debt, He destroys the document on which our debt was recorded by nailing it to the cross. We are forgiven because of the cross of Jesus.
My sin—oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!—
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

So why are you, GP 2, so harshly unforgiving in your criticism of Piece, Donna et al except ( justifiably, in an eye-for-an-eye sense) your nemesis in Biblical warfare the divinty mock doctor Georgie Porgie) when they dare call you a false Christian not in keeping with the Jesus ISO 9001 standard?

If the teachings of the mythical Moses are irrelevant to the Jesus era (the age of the fisher of men) why do you guys keep harping on about things deemed not kosher according to Leviticus like a woman menstruating who ought to be confined and isolated for at least a week because of her uncleanness?

Shouldn’t the teachings of Jesus about love of your fellow ‘man’ be universally inclusive to accept same sex relationships?
After all, Jesus himself surrounded himself with 12 disciples and not even one of them was called Mary, June or Joan.

  20. ROMANS 5

17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

    VERSE 20 IS SO SWEET
But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

    WHERE DOES GRACE COME FROM?
    FROM WHOM DOES GRACE COME?

    JOHN 1: 16-17

16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

    WHO SAID IN Matthew 7:15-20
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

  21. Hi Porgie:

If you ever find what appears to be conflicting verses, then you would be wise to listen to Jesus. Fortunately, there is no conflict in the verse you provided.

Paul shows that the branches of Israel which were removed because of their unbelief, can be grafted back into the tree once they believe.

It appears that regardless of how how limited individuals have forgiven others in the past, if they choose to later forgive entirely, then they will be forgiven by God in the same manner.

  22. Miller:

I must forgive BU’s bullies constantly – and I do. Therefore, the issue is not unforgiveness, but pity.

Moses’ teachings are not irrelevant. You just need to read them with a fair degree of common sense. If you read them to be better, then you would benefit. If you read them just to be provocative, then you will likely not benefit.
My suggestion to you is to read them to be better.

As you are probably aware, we are to love everyone, regardless of their behaviour. Love includes encouraging improvement. Clearly, you can only encourage improvement if you know what God’s standard is.

Since you probably know God’s standard, my suggestion to you is to encourage all people to improve accordingly.

  23. RE If you ever find what appears to be conflicting verses, then you would be wise to listen to Jesus.

HERE THIS FALSE TEACHER IS SEEKING TO TEACH ME THE BIBLE AND HOW IT IS INTERPRETED

the gifts and calling of God are without repentance MEANS THAT the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

IT CONFLICTS WITH YOUR TEACHING THAT “God appears to answer our prayer by retrieving our sin, and making us accountable for it once again.”

THERE IS NO SCRIPTURE ANYWAY THAT SUPPORTS THIS RUBBISH NONE!

IT IS INSANE AND DIABOLICAL TO ASSOCIATE ANY OF THE SAYINGS OF JESUS WITH YOUR FALSE TEACHING

YOU SAY “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” (Matthew 18:23-35).

WILL YOU FORGIVE THE SO CALLED CYBER BULLIES FOR CORRECTLY TELLING THE WORLD THE TRUTH THAT YOU HAVE NO SOLUTIONS FOR BARBADOS

WILL YOU CONTINUE YOUR FALSE TEACHING ON BU

NOW BIRD BRAIN WILL COME AND CALL THIS RUBBISH “ATTENDANCE”

  24. RE It appears that regardless of how how limited individuals have forgiven others in the past, if they choose to later forgive entirely, then they will be forgiven by God in the same manner.

WHERE DOES THE BIBLE TEACH THIS? PLEASE KINDLY GIVE THE REFERENCES ?

So what are you saying here Dear GP 2? That Christians- who ought to have a personal relationship with God only through Jesus- should dismiss the Torah the same way the have dismissed the earlier scriptures like the Hammurabi code of laws and the commandments according to Zeus, Baal and Jupiter?

Shouldn’t you, a good Jesus-loving Christian man- be walking in the footsteps of the Christ by asking for the local judiciary to be turned into a court of forgiveness like Jesus on the cross instead of acting as an instrument for condemning people to long periods in jail for smoking a God-made weed called Mary Jane and even a ‘life-long’ sentence to a death of misery for doing what Cain did but still lived a fully productive life long enough to produce your ‘blackened’ ancestors?

The fundamental issue is that of the interpretation. Each man believing what he understands. That is why it is important to go back to the original language in which it was written.
    @ GP
I tend towards your interpretation. There is an element of relieving of a burden in the idea of forgiving. In the healing process Jesus is reported to have said “Your sins are forgiven”,instead of “You are healed”. So in the early Jewish culture sin was a burden.

  27. VINCENT
it is INDEED important to go back to the original language in which it was written. THIS SOMETIMES HELPS
    .
HOWEVER, THERE ARE RULES FOR INTERPRETATION SUCH AS NEHEMIAH 8:8

So how, then, should the miller interpret the following commandment given to Moses by Yahweh the father of your loving sweet Jesus:

    God commanding Moses to kill:

“They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man……..Now kill all the boys [innocent kids]. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. (Numbers 31:7,17-18)”

Kill everything that “breathes” from humans and animals! Deuteronomy 20:16

  33. Miller:

You are confusing two separate things. The legal standards for a state, and the personal standards for an individual.

When you break state laws, you are sentenced accordingly, but you are liable to no more than the maximum stated. So no more than an eye for an eye.

Jesus asked those who wanted to follow Him to forgive their offender. So, forgive the thief. However, the state may still charge and try him.

  34. Vincent.

Our opinions are just that – opinions. You must look at the evidence that Jesus provided and act accordingly.

When we ask God to forgive us, He does – similar to the King who forgave the servant the entire debt.

In the Lords prayer, we ask God to forgive us in the same manner (as) that we forgive others.

The unforgiving servant shows us that if after we have been forgiven, we decide not to forgive others, then Jesus, Himself, explained what will happen. Be guided accordingly.

  37. It is also useful to note that some false teaching developed in Israel, which God Himself debunked. Irresponsible persons believed that their initial righteous behaviour guaranteed them a place in heaven, regardless of their later irresponsible behavior.

God Himself confronts and rejects this teaching.

“And your people say that what I do isn’t right! No, it’s their way that isn’t right. When someone righteous stops doing good and starts doing evil, he will die for it. When someone evil quits sinning and does what is right and good, he has saved his life. But Israel, you say that what I do isn’t right. I am going to judge you by what you do.” (Ezekiel 33:7-20)

A similar teaching came into some Christian denominations. Once persons are forgiven, it does not give them license to treat others badly. Jesus explained that at the Judgement, those who called Him Lord would be rejected, because they treated others badly.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (Matthew 7:21-23)

Jesus went further, so that we would be without excuse.

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

“Then they also will answer [d]Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” (Matthew 25:41-46)

The teaching on the unforgiving servant is consistent with this context.

  38. NONE OF THE SCRIPTURES YOU CITE TEACH THAT I CAN NOT SAY THAT YOU HAVE NO SOLUTIONS FOR BARBADOS

NONE OF THE SCRIPTURES YOU CITE TEACH THAT TO SAY THAT IT IS SIN TO SAY THAT YOU HAVE NO SOLUTIONS FOR BARBADOS

SO STOP WHINING AND TRYING TO JUDGE YOUR DETRACTORS

The teaching on the unforgiving servant HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE NO SOLUTIONS FOR BARBADOS AS ADVERTISED FOR YEARS NOW

  39. THESE SCRIPTURE REFERENCES ARE CLEAR AND CONCISE…“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15)

TO ENSURE THAT WE WOULD BE WITHOUT ANY EXCUSE, JESUS GAVE US AN EXAMPLE.

“Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.”

THOSE WHO HAVE KNOWN THE TRUTH AND TURN AWAY WILL RECEIVE THE CRATER CONDEMNATION…

The one who Accuses others of CONTINUALLY DISRUPTING HIS BLOG he PERSISTS in his Puerile Envious Ways and says to Freedom “JUST SHUT UP AND GO SHINE ON MONDAY MORNINGS” and in another Breath to GP11“SO STOP WHINING AND TRYING TO JUDGE YOUR DETRACTORS”.

The words DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU does not apply to him as he seeks not only to be DISRUPTIVE, BUT TAUNTING AND PROVOKING, WHILE ONLY SEEKING TO DISCREDIT OTHERS. His Mantra is that Solutions have no Solutions, what an Oxy-“MORON” AND A “SPITEFUL PICKER OF NITS” (WHO OBVIOUSLY HAS LOST HIS WAY AND BY HIS CHOICES IS LISTENING TO THE WRONG SPIRIT. HE BELIEVES HE IS “SAVED” SO HE CAN TREAT OTHERS HOWEVER, HE CHOOSES BY HIS BAD BEHAVIOUR… PITIFUL REALLY!…

The same way people erroneously FEEL AND BELIEVE that because they believe on the name of Jesus that they are automatically Saved in His Kingdom and that gives them the Green-light to Continue in their Evil ways disregarding Sincere Repentance of making a Conscious Effort not to Repeat their Past Sins…GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED, WE WILL BE ANSWERABLE. Where we end up in the Eternities is Dependent on OUR Own Choices.

THE SADDEST VERSE IN THE BIBLE…Revelation 20:15

“It is also useful to note that some false teaching developed in Israel, which God Himself debunked. Irresponsible persons believed that their initial righteous behaviour guaranteed them a place in heaven, regardless of their later irresponsible behavior.”

    BIBLE TEACHINGS:

DILIGENCE, PATIENCE, AND ENDURING TO THE END IS REQUIRED TO ENSURE OUR SALVATION:

    2 Peter 1:4-10; 2 Peter 3:14-18; Heb. 12:1,7,14,15; Heb. 10:36; James 1:12; Mark 13:13; Heb. 6:15; Heb. 3:14; Rev. 2:7,10,11; Col. 1:22-29; James 5:7-12; 1 John 2:24-25.

    WHY? Rom. 8:16-18; Rev. 3:19-21; Rev. 21:7; Heb.12:9,10; Acts 17:28,29

    THE WORDS OF CHRIST HIMSELF:

HIS TEACHINGS SHOW THAT OBEDIENCE IS REQUIRED TO OBTAIN ETERNAL LIFE; THERE IS NO HINT OF “ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED” OR INSTANT SALVATION WITHOUT WORKS:

Matt. 19: 16-23 (POINT BLANK: TO OBTAIN ETERNAL LIFE, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS); see also Mark 10:17-30; Luke 18:18-30

Luke 10:25-28 (AGAIN: KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS TO BE SAVED)

Mark 12: 28-34 (CHRIST TEACHES THE TWO GREATEST COMMANDMENTS, AND TELLS ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THEM THAT HE IS “NOT FAR FROM THE KINGDOM OF GOD”)

Luke 11:28 (BLESSED ARE THEY THAT DO THE WORD OF GOD)

    SERMON ON THE MOUNT

Matt. chapters 5 to 7 (FOCUSES ON WORKS, BEHAVIOR)
    Matt. 5:19-21 (MUST KEEP COMMANDMENTS)
Matt 5:48 (MUST SEEK TO BE PERFECT)
Matt. 7:13,14 (THE GATE IS STRAIGHT AND NARROW)
Matt. 7:21-23 (MUST DO GOD’S WILL; CHRISTIANS WHO DID EVIL WILL NOT GO TO HEAVEN)
Matt. 7:24-28 (THOSE WHO DO WHAT CHRIST SAYS ARE BUILT ON A SURE FOUNDATION)
Matt. 24:13 (ENDURE TO THE END TO BE SAVED) – see also Matt. 10:22 and Mark 13:13
Matt. 12:35-37 (WILL BE JUDGED BY OUR WORDS, TO BE CONDEMNED OR JUSTIFIED)
Matt. 16:24-27 (WE’LL BE JUDGED BY OUR WORKS)
John 8:31-32 (WE MUST CONTINUE IN THE WORD OF CHRIST)
Luke 21:19 (PATIENCE IS REQUIRED TO PRESERVE OUR SOULS)
Luke 21:34-36 (BE CAUTIOUS, AVOID SIN, TO BE COUNTED WORTHY TO STAND BEFORE GOD)
Mark 11:25-26 (WE MUST FORGIVE OTHERS TO BE FORGIVEN OURSELVES)
John 5: 28,29 (THOSE THAT DO GOOD OBTAIN LIFE)
John 14:15,21,23 (CHRIST TEACHES US TO KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS)
John 15: 1-14 (WE MUST BEAR FRUIT, KEEP COMMANDMENTS)
Matt. 13:3-23 (PARABLE OF THE SOWER: HE WARNS THAT SOME RECEIVE THE WORD AND BELIEVE, BUT DO NOT ENDURE: WILL THEY BE IN GOD’S KINGDOM? See Luke 9:24-26)
Matt. 12:50 (MUST DO HIS WILL TO HAVE A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST)
Matt. 13:40-43 (PARABLE OF THE TARES: THOSE IN HIS KINGDOM WHO DO EVIL ARE DAMNED)
John 12:50 (THE FATHER’S COMMANDMENT IS LIFE EVERLASTING)
    See also Luke 21: 19,34-36; Matt. 25 (esp. v. 31-46); John 3:5

    JUDGED BY WORKS:
    Rom. 2: 4-11; Rev. 20: 12-15; Matt. 16:27; Gal. 6: 7-9; Rev. 22:12-14; 2 Cor. 5:9,10; Col. 3:24-25; John 5:28,29; Eccl. 12:13,14; 1 Peter 1:17; Psalm 62:12; Prov. 24:12; Rev. 2:23; 1 Peter 4:17-19.

REPENTANCE AND OBEDIENCE ARE REQUIRED FOR SALVATION:
    Acts 2:37-38; Matt. 4:17; Acts 17:30,31; 2 Peter 3:9; 2 Cor. 7:9-11; Ezekiel 18:4,5,9,20-27,30-32; Ezekiel 33:11-20; Acts 26:20; Mark 6:12; Luke 24:47; Heb. 5:8,9; Rom. 2: 4-11; Prov. 4:4; Prov. 19:16; Deut. 6:17; Eccl. 12:13,14; Matt. 4:4; Deut. 8:3; 1 Sam. 15:22; Jerem. 7:23; 2 Cor. 10:5,6; Exo. 19:5; Deut. 29:9-15; John 7:17; Rom. 6:16; James 4:6-10; 2 Thess. 1:4-9; 1 Pet. 1:14-16; Matt. 5:48; Lev. 11:45; Lev. 19:2; Lev. 20:7,26; Matt. 5:19-20; Rev. 3:5,19-21; Joel 2:12,13; 2 Cor. 10:5,6; 2 Cor. 7:15; Phil. 2:8.

SAVED BY GRACE – BUT WE ACCESS THAT GRACE BY OBEDIENCE:
    Eph. 2:8; Rev. 22:12-14; Philippians 3:12-14; Heb. 5:8,9; Exodus 20:6; James 4:6-10; Matt. 5:7; 1 Peter 1:13-22.

WE MUST DO, NOT JUST BELIEVE:
    James, Chapters 1 and 2; 1 John 3:18,19; Matt. 7:21-27; Matt. 25:31-46; 2 Cor. 5:9,10; Titus 2; 1 Peter 1:22; Matt. 12:50; 1 Tim. 6:17-19.

CHRISTIANS CAN FALL FROM GRACE, SO BE CAUTIOUS:
    Heb. 12:15; 1 Cor. 10:12; 2 Pet. 1:4-10; Heb. 3: 12-14; Heb. 4:1,11; Matt. 7:21-23; Luke 21:34-36; Phil. 2:12; Gal. 5:4; Heb. 6:4-6; Heb. 10:26-31; 2 Cor. 6:1; Jude 1:3-13; Col. 1:23; James 5:12,19,20.

SIN CAN KEEP YOU OUT OF HEAVEN:
    1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:16-26; Eph. 5:3-7; 1 Thess. 4:1-7; Col. 3:5-25; Jude 1:14-25; Heb. 12:1-17; James 4:4; Matt. 5:22; Matt. 25: 31-46; Ezek. 18.

WE MUST GROW AND PROGRESS THROUGH OBEDIENCE TO BE SAVED:
    2 Peter 1:3-10 (heavy!); 1 John 2:4,5; Phil. 3:12-15.

WILL GRENVILLE PHILIPS SHOW US THAT HE HAS SOLUTIONS FOR BARBADOS?

  42. Porgie:

You think too much of your self. I am not writing this to judge my detractors as you claim. You are nowhere in my thoughts as I prepare these.

If you feel judged, then it is another who is convicting you, not I. Consider this.

“The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion.” (Proverbs 28:1)

BUT WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE, you GRENVILLE PHILIPS have NO SOLUTIONS FOR BARBADOS

WILL you GRENVILLE PHILIPS SHOW US THAT you have any SOLUTIONS FOR BARBADOS anytime soon ?

“You are confusing two separate things.
However, the state may still charge and try him.”
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Despite your convoluted response paved with the macadam of circumlocution you still have not explained why Yahweh, a god of love and forgiveness, would command Moses (Yahweh’s chief scribe and lawmaker) to commit mass murder and rape little virgins on the scale to put Pol Pot to shame.

Here you get on BU regularly pompasetting about the evils of sex slavery and the sin of watching porn (without your ‘lawful’ permission) yet you want us to believe that you fanatically subscribe to a book which teaches that its ok to kill innocent little boys and rape little girls as long as Yahweh gives you permission.

Now deal with that GP2, ye Great Pope of Hypocrisy!

  45. Verily, verily, I say unto you – this man knows not and knows not that he knows not. This man has only a nodding acquaintance with the Bible but would preach. Always a dangerous thing.

Furthermore, I have no need of forgiveness for not believing an unbelievable story told by this would be prime minister. He told me that I should have asked for proof of his incredible story. I have so done. He has presented NONE! If he cannot be trusted to tell the truth about small things, how can he be trusted with the large things?

There is nothing more dangerous than a political leader who misuses the Bible, brooks no opposition and thinks he is “better” than other people.

I am looking forward to the Monday “sermon”. I have watched all the reruns of sitcoms on television. I like my own culture better and so this is better than any American or British sitcom for me. I am typing this with a huge smile on my face still, a leftover from all the Bajan belly laughs I have had from this column and his continued responses.

PS. I haven’t seen any proof posted as yet. Have you? I promised to look at it but…..

Oh dear, they have gotten a second wind of hate.

We have BU bully Piece doing what he normally does – taking information completely out of its context. We have Porgie doing what he normally does – playing the lunatic. And BU bully Donna, asking for information that she has already stated that she will never believe.

This pathetic group of bullies just cannot stop themselves.

CAREFUL WHAT’S IN YOUR RUBBISH BIN DONNA!!

  47. Looney Tunes,

In scrolling past your pathetic odes to your chosen Barbadian political leader (you really need to work on your tendency for blind devotion to buffoons) I happened to notice that you have mentioned my name.

You and Grenville both need to grow up!

Let us put this in perspective!

Grenville is supposed to be a grown man who has offered himself as a political leader with the solutions to Barbados’ problems. He is not some little child being bullied on a playground even though he behaves like one. He constantly posts “silly “sermons” on BU which display, in no uncertain terms, his superficial acquaintance with Bible and recently he posted an incredible story which evidently, we are supposed to believe because he, Grenville Phillips the “man of integrity” says so. When challenged, his childish response is to call me a hater without producing the evidence he claims to have and for which he said I should ask.

Now…. if you really want to talk Bible, let us do so! What did Jesus do for Doubting Thomas who had travelled with him for three whole years and witnessed many a miracle done by Him? Did he call Thomas a hater and dismiss his queries? No, he showed him his wounds as proof. So… if this less impressive being, this “preacher man” who has so far done no miracles, wants to follow in the footsteps of Jesus……

But on a lighter note – why would I waste hate on Grenville Phillips? I don’t hate clowns unless they aren’t funny.

PS. This is Barbados, not the US of A. I don’t believe there are enough Barbadian voters like you who will be fooled by this privileged person who has declared himself “better”. The young people will not be blinded by his incoherent religious babble intended to fertilize his political seeds of idiotic despotism. And so he presents no real danger to Barbados, and therefore I can enjoy a few laughs at his expense. I have exhausted my supply of British and American sitcom reruns and CBC has not yet unveiled its promised new Barbadian agenda. If I were writing Laugh it Off … wait a minute! I am quite capable of creating a worthy script! Who is the producer?

What a maroon! (or is that moron?)

  48. murdah Donna
you really hit those morons hard doh

    Sweet ‘fuy’ days, dear Donna!

A real class act of superbly laughable satirical writing. One of the best appearing on BU.

  50. FREEDOM GOOD GOVERNANCE DOES NOT COME BY THE LAW IT COMES BY WHEN A MAN ACTS MORALLY AND EXERCISES REPENTANCE. THE MORE LAWS YOU HAVE THE REPRESSED A SOCIETY IS THE MORE PEOPLE REPENT OF THE WRONGS THEY HAVE COMMITTED YOU HAVE GOOD GOVERNANCE, WHICH IS SELF-GOVERNANCE!

THEREFORE, GP11 MUST HAVE RECOGNISED THAT AND IS TRYING EVEN THOUGH HE IS A POLITICIAN TO SHOW THAT MORAL PEOPLE AND PERSONS THAT EXERCISE REPENTANCE ENGENDERS A GOOD AND WHOLESOME SOCIETY. LAWS ARE NOT MADE FOR THE RIGHTEOUS; LAWS ARE MADE FOR THE UNRIGHTEOUS TO KNOW “NOT” WHAT TO DO.

IF A SOCIETY HAS NEED OF ABUNDANT LAWS IT MEANS THAT ITS PEOPLE ARE UNRIGHTEOUS OR THEY HAVE UNRIGHTEOUS RULERS WHO BELIEVE IN TYRANNY.
