The Barbados Labour Party (BLP) won a landslide general election 30-0 on 24 May 2019.  The result was an unequivocal rejection of the last Democratic Labour Party (DLP) government. After 10 years of being governed by a government with negligible political stock, Barbadians changed the script by giving the BLP an unprecedented victory at the 2018 poll.

The landslide victory has provided fodder for political pundits for another reason. A strong democracy requires a coherent and constructive dissenting voice. Ideally in our bicameral composition of parliament is where a dissenting view is designed to be most effective.

At recent count there were 20 known political parties registered to serve the people. Of the parties on the list 8 contested the 2018 general election. Believe it!

As a keen observer of current affairs, the blogmaster observes that 20 months since the 2018 general election, no third party party has emerged to challenge the two major political parties. In fact if you remove the two major parties  – DLP and BLP – from the list of known political parties, you are left with the People’s Party for Democracy and Development (PDP) and Solutions Barbados (SB) that have remained active post 2018 general election. The PDP is the official opposition and SB the third party which secured the most votes outside of the two major parties in the 2018 general election. The United Progressive Party (UPP), Bajan Free Party (BFP), Barbados Integrity Movement (BIM), People’s Democratic Congress (PDC) have been missing in action.

The simple analysis forces two questions :-

  1. How can the citizenry force the major political parties to re-engineer in order to better serve the needs of the people?
  2. How can citizens with the characteristics to improve the quality of public service be encouraged to offer themselves for public service?

Good grief soon all would need bullet proof vest to walk around barbados

  2. @Mariposa: “Good grief soon all would need bullet proof vest to walk around barbados

    Incorrect.

Highspeed lead exists throughout the world.

The smart avoid situations where that might exist, wherever possible.

And, if it does ever happen, are prepared to act accordingly.

  3. @ Bajan in NY
Thanks. I respect the electorate. There are stories to share. However I will tell you one thing: The Duopoly is firmly entrenched. You note it has recovered from as little as 3 seats then 2 and now 0.
The NDP should have had a fifteen year political plan to disrupt the Duopoly. I am also aware that the NDP came out of the Duopoly. That in itself was a philosophical and ideological challenge to overcome. A serious reading of the 1991 NDP manifesto will reveal that many of the policies are now being executed by the Duopoly.
You will also note that there are now NDPs in parliament. After the NDP many went with Owen.
Like I try to remind people: the Duopoly has deep roots. The reason third parties falter is that they never try to sustain intense political activity outside of elections and they eventually fold . I think the public is ready for some change but it wants to see hard work from these third parties.
A very prosperous and happy 2020 to you and the family.

David, I agree with where u are going @ 10:42 AM but then u veered off and left me …

As u suggest it’s quite facile to start a so called political party and even officially contest an election … I also agree about having a sound philosophy and all that but isn’t the absolute measure and worth of a political party a functional representation in the national assembly!

If that’s not eventually achieved at some stage of the party’s life (perferably first 2 election cycles) how can they (it) be seen as anything other than a ‘pressure’ group or group of activists!

The other point of course is that being an offspring of an existing party is quite expected…the DLP evolved like that and so too the NDP….. In TnT the same for Panday as I recall.

My point … you can philosophically be very silmilar but when u split you must be able to prove your bonafides as being BETTER than the leader u left, galvanize that base of which you speak and ascend to the assembly otherwise you are no more than a vocal pressure group… Not a Party … unless we talking bout a parrtee fete!

@Vincent I too agree with ur analysis re media and ‘propaganda’ ….

That said we should all agree however that all political parties use propaganda via the media…and the media will ‘prostitute’ itself and use it to suit its purposes if it (they) see a value to improving reach’ … thus boosting their advertising revenue.

I’m sure you and others here recall the ballyhoo when Beresford Leopold Pilgrim (or whatever the name was) and the equivalent DLP columns were debuted in the Nation News (I think it was) as a weekly feature. As much as a political junkie I was even then I never read that stuff… too rich and direct from the BS pipe I thought …

… But then sometimes I would catch myself reading Ezra Alleyne or John Connell or others like that… Foolish me, right…( We live and learn 😎😂) … Same propaganda … but not often as identifiable as a direct spigot flow!

Anyhow if Phillips wants credibility he should continue to do his outreach and stop priming for the media … when or if he “bites the dog” as @Hal may opine…the media will come to him.

  6. @WS: “However I will tell you one thing: The Duopoly is firmly entrenched.

Are you then saying that all is lost?

I could be wrong on this, but what I read is needed here in Bimshire is a cohesive opposition.

Asking important questions. Having access to information. Helping make smart decisions.

It was actually a bit of a constitutional crisis when there was no opposition elected. This revealed that there was a “bug in the code” in the Barbados Constitution.

It was never “envisioned” that not a single opposition member would be elected.

Just to share, programmers can sometimes be dumber than bricks.

There’s a coveted command, “DWIM”. It means “Do What I Mean”.

  7. @Mariposa: “Sorry to differ with your simplistic respond

Have you ever been shot at?

    I have.

  8. The IMF experiment of harsh austerity measures on barbados is bearing rotten fruit in poverty stricken areas of barbados
The sadness of it all is that govt does not have a clue as to what measures should be put in place to offset the decaying violent climate of barbados social environment
Things are going to get worse

  9. @ Chris Halsall December 29, 2019 10:14 PM

“@WS: “However I will tell you one thing: The Duopoly is firmly entrenched.

Are you then saying that all is lost?”

No. I think I was pretty clear. I said it was firmly entrenched. Removing the Duopoly will take sustained political activity. Some serious finance is also required.
Another problem is that the third parties need leaders who are politically strong . You note that Mottley was kicked to the curb by Arthur but she did not become a cry baby. She showed political survival skills. Compare that with the excessive whining of some who say they are leading a party. They can’t even take a good punch on BU. They should talk to Mottley about what it takes.
In my case almost thirty years later people still remind me I lost my deposit. Politics is not for cry babies.

  10. @chris Halsall No. But have been in close proximity where i was supposed to be in a crime free area
My point being that no where is safe
Living in a small island like barbados the possibility of anyone being caught in the cross fire of gun toting thugs is real
I therefore suggest that those who can protect themselves by way of armored gear do so
Govt has presently has shown they do not have any answers to protect the public from the prolonged violence that has reached a critical level for a small nation

  11. @Dee Word

A reread of the comment does confuse. Chris touched on what was the thinking- dressing a wart in the Constitution that the 2018 general election exposed. Our dissenting voice outside parliament must be as strident as can be given the current state of play. Civic awareness and responsibility must some how position this as a priority.

By the way, did Eric Fly have aspirations of winning a seat as a member of the People’s Pressure Group (PPG)?

  12. @ Mr. William Skinner and
    @ Mr. Vincent Codrington

The two of you gentlemen ARE BOSSES.

Mr Skinner you said and I quote

“…Like I try to remind people: the Duopoly has deep roots. The reason third parties falter is that they never try to sustain intense political activity outside of elections and they eventually fold .

I think the public is ready for some change but it wants to see hard work from these third parties…”

The fact is that NO THIRD PARTY MOVEMENT IS GOING TO DIRUPT THE DUOPOLY WITH THIS Lukewarm response that they are presenting @2019!

Reverend Joseph Atherley bless his soul is a man of the past .

And, UNDER THAT MOLASSES LIKE REACTION RESPONSE the PdP will be slaughtered.

Wunna know why The Pair of Rented Jackasses Hee Hee and Hee Haw get paid to come to Barbados Underground and run interference on any and All Political Blogs?

Because the blogs are bringing people who want change.

And the people who the Jackasses Hee Hee and Hee Haw names earlier ARE BEING NOTICED.

So they have to come to suppress the comments on the blog AND TO ATTACK PERSONALITIES.

Halsall I am deducing is a BLP operative because, in the middle of thus, and any topic, he NEVER FOCUSES ON THE SUBSTANCE OF THE ARTICLES, he waffles all the time! AND PEOPLE FOLLOW HIS BAIT!

But the 10 named dissenters keep responding against the Mugabe coolaid, in spite of the noticeable absence of the PdP, to comment on any rass** issues!

The fact is that the PdP DOES NOT HAVE A STRATEGIST who understands grass roots mobilization for 2019. As a result the PdP is unknown

So, as it currently stands, THEY ARE LOST AT SEA, with a non cohesive message, and fly by night approach SERIOUSLY LACKING DELIVERABLES!

Let me see if de ole man can explain this with an example.

    Issue #1 crime

Where is the PdP on this issue? AND WHERE does it have a viable pilot project in an at risk community.

Christ was not followed by the multitudes for his spiritual messages People followed him for what he gave them healing and food

And while the PdP is not The Christ, it must bring miracles, of sorts.

Swamp an At Risk community with *** contributed by *** and *** to proactively assist to decrease the violence.

AND THE MEDUA HAS NO CHOICE BUT FOLLOW.

AND IF THEY DO NOT FOLLOW, Piece the Legend would run a counter campaign speaking about how the Attorney General has hundred of millions of dollars and IS failing BUT THE PdP is succeeding with less.

De ole man could replicate this in Agriculture, Sports, Food substitution, Tourism and Innovation JES SO!

A PILOT IN EVERY ONE OF THESE DISCIPLINES!

BUT THE IS WHY I AM PIECE THE LEGEND, and dem is just de fledgling PdP political Party.

And please, do not look at this as arrogance

Over time the smarter people here recognize THAT I AM CREATING MY OWN REPUTATION, without any resources from anyone.

So the process works FOR 2 MEN, me and the grandson, so a political party has to be able to able to generate WAY MORE INTEREST IN ITS MISSION, DON’T YOU THINK?

  13. @Mariposa: “Living in a small island like barbados the possibility of anyone being caught in the cross fire of gun toting thugs is real

Yeah. Like just about anywhere else in the world. A “non-zero” possibility.

I conder myself to be very lucky. I have lived and worked in several different countries.

I feel safer and more comfortable (for myself, my family, and my friends) here in Barbados than I do in Toronto, London, Vancouver or /any/ American city.

Fear is pointless. Understand the maths.

    Manage the situation.

  14. Agree with Chris about feeling safer/better in Barbados for me and my family. USA I sometimes work to make some faster money.

  15. Eric Fly PPM (People Pressure Movement).

  16. Eric Fly – which one was it, the PPG or PPM? Or doesn’t it matter?

  17. Many Barbadians are comfortable in the knowledge Andre Worrell is the DLP person shadowing the environment, who are his equivalents in the abundance of third parties which abound?

To test the point under discussion here VOB carried his been carrying his statement in their newscasts calling for the resignations of the minister, Board and Chairman.

  18. de pedantic Dribbler Avatar
    de pedantic Dribbler

@David Blogmaster, I have no knowledge if Eric Fly Sealy had “aspirations of winning a seat…”. The little I know from the public info of the man points me to suggest that he would certainly have embraced that level of ‘notoriety’ (acclaim)… He was surely no less capable than several other folks who were elected to the House.

His energetic political activism is an excellent primer for all our chatter on political parties … and an informed, academic style analysis would put flesh on the man and his impact.

A simple appreciation of him suggests that 1) – not to overstate his successes – but if he could generate the public persona as he did then how effective an impassioned activist with social media resources would be able to incite wide appeal easier today; and 2) on the flip-side, how just as easily it can be possible to quickly tarnish a reputation today with scandalous allegations (like the one that Sealy would take money to be silent on certain topics).

As much as he may have desired the fame and fortune… if one questions whether his movement was able to move him into the House or morph into a potent group of elected officials… the answer seems clear, not so! NO.

@Skinner, you said “I saw from being in the trenches how the BLPDLP brutalised the NDP which some claim has been the most successful third party to date.”

Basically, since independence, if I use the yardstick of elected officials, the NDP was the ONLY third party…. and that is being generous as those elected NDP members entered the House under another party colour; the NDP were never accorded the recognition by Bajans with an operational number of elected MPs to the house.

The BLPDLP had every reason they thought to fear your leader and his NDP but one can never truly know if the lack of success of the NDP was due to their ‘brutalizations’ or the inner fighting of your party and your leader’s lack of a true populist vision…. it can be argued that the inability of the NDP to evolve beyond Haynes was a clear indication that the group would have failed regardless of any efforts by your so called duopoly …

Why was your team unable to break through and maintain more relevance??? Has that been answered here before.?

    I gone.

  19. Have a great day Barbados.

Stay alert, stay information and used your information filter.
Don’t just buy the package. Unwrap it and have questions of your own
An awoke, thoughtful and questioning public is their worst nightmare

  21. I think EWB’s “mirror image” speech still relevant. In the final analysis, going forward, what type of Barbadian society do we wish to create???????

& Hal Austin. You mentioned the People’s Progressive Movement (PPM). Candour demands that we also admit that EWB, despite his virtues and achievements, did not always got it right. I still recall being in the sixth form and going to court in Coleridge Street to witness Atty. Calvin Alleyne’s defense of Atty. Bobby Clarke, a defendant – probably the first – then charged under the EWB’ inspired Public Order Act.

Similarly, I think that EWB erred back in time when he banned the late Stokeley Carmichael, whose message of upliftment and black empowerment still resonates even today in any slave/plantation society, which message might have helped raise the political consciousness of the often politically unconscious.

  22. @Mr Pil;grim

Good morning to you and a prosperous 202.

Before I leave, I have top ask you a question
“Similarly, I think that EWB erred back in time when he banned the late Stokeley Carmichael, whose message of upliftment and black empowerment still resonates even today in any slave/plantation society, which message might have helped raise the political consciousness of the often politically unconscious.”

Isn’t this a repeat of Waru’s message on the black political class who seek to keep the masses in ignorance. It is more cleverly crafted and more focused but it is the same message.

    Have a great day, Sir.

  23. @ de pedantic Dribbler
Your comments about the NDP are quite accurate. I have written about why the party failed , in my opinion, here on BU.
I don’t know about intensive infighting but the major problem after the 1991 election , was the decision of the leadership not to have a post mortem. That request was denied because the leadership felt it would become a vivisection.
I did not contest the 1994 election although I was still active in the party.
There were some other problems when the party refused to contest a by election.
As to it’s demise all I can say is that it was put to sleep.

  24. @William

You are too nice. The problem was Richie, his way or the highway.

  25. @ Caleb Pilgrim

I have said on BU a number of times what I think about Barrow as the father of independence. Prof Hilbourne Watson, a Modern High School old boy, has just written the first volume in his political biography of Barrow. I have not yet read it, but I must admit to being somewhat disappointed that BU has not reviewed and discussed it as yet.
However, at the risk of being accused of disliking Barrow, |I think his reputation is exaggerated some what.

  26. “Wunna know why The Pair of Rented Jackasses Hee Hee and Hee Haw get paid to come to Barbados Underground and run interference on any and All Political Blogs?”

This response gives credence to my earlier statement that even the BU opposers can’t articulate any sustained argument against the government. A whole lotta RH.

  27. I think Errol Barrow the problem with Barrow was that he was more of a reformer than a revolutionary. I think he was treading carefully. I think too carefully.

  28. Typo

  29. Any political party wannabe THAT IS “ABSENT” FROM THE BARBADOS LANDSCAPE of social
, political, political and ethical interactions WITH THE COMMUNITY at the grassroots, WILL LOOSE!

when one examines Eric Fly Sealy AND Bobby Morris’ outreach, what becomes clear is that, at their times THE DEGREES OF SEPARATION CONCEPT, which in their day was about 25 Degrees of “Separation” and their respective messages, were too removed from the (atropied) minds of the then electorate, especially considering the then existing dissemination tools and the controls over TV AND REDIFUSION AND NEWSPAPERS

The NDP “form factor” with the former DLP member Dr Richie Haynes approximates the PdP in this age with the former, AND I SAY CURRENT, leader Reverend Joseph Atherley

(and i will hold that position until The Reverend relinquishes control to THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN CARRY THE PdP to success)

@ 2019 it is now “3.5 Degrees of Separation” as opposed to 6!

And for you who do not understand the degrees of Separation concept here is its definition

“…Six degrees of separation is the idea that all people are six, or fewer, social connections away from each other.

Often called the “6 Handshakes rule.”

As a result, a chain of “a friend of a friend” statements can be made to connect any two people in a maximum of six steps.

It is sometimes generalized to the average social distance being logarithmic in the size of the population…”

Crudely speaking, when de ole man AND ME GRANDSON, post a Stoopid cartoon like the one below, IF I AM GOOD AT MY PSYCHOGRAPHIC WARFARE SKILLS, in an ideal situation, then my graphic only requires a “handshake” or resend to 4 people, before Mugabe Mottley gets it.

This is a crude representation BUT THE FACT IS THAT THE PdP IS NOT DOING ENOUGH TO HIGHLIGHT ITSELF among the bajans.

Others here say that the PdP should not show what it is doing until 6 month before a General Election BUT THAT REASONING IS SERIOUSLY FLAWED BECAUSE what might be constitutionally due in 2024 WILL HAPPEN IN 2021!

Therefore the PdP MUST LAUNCH PILOTS and use de ole man’s tools to disseminate that message to every 1 in 4 people!

I, PIECE THE LEGEND, HAVE SPOKEN!

  30. @ David
Your conclusion is not unique. I have expressed a broader opinion. We say the DLP failed because of Stuart; if things go south we will blame Mottley. I submit it’s the acceptance of the maximum leader concept. Look how easy Arthur went from pretty mahogany wood to cardboard shavings. Sawdust.
We are victims of a backward political culture. It permeates the entire leadership of the country: politics education, labour. I just recently , minutes ago, in a response to you , tried to point out that this is the fundamental problem.
Hopefully Mottley can use her great majority and the current wave of goodwill to change this maximum leader danger.

  31. @William

The NDP was a one man show. The party died when Ritchie reverted. The demise of the NDP cannot be compared to the ensconced duopoly machinery we have to deal. For a good third party to take root in Barbados it will call for a team of like minded people with a national profile and access to funding. Barbadians will not vote for a third party by default.

  32. @The OldGazerts &
    @ Hal A:

Wishing You A Blessed, Healthy, Happy & Prosperous 2020.

  33. Hi David:

I must disagree with you on activeness of some of the other third parties.

The PDC’s Mark Adamson is active almost every day on social media. He is also regularly on the streets with a bull-horn, advocating for PDC’s positions. The problem is that he is not covered in the press.

People like William will advocate that Mark do even more – so that he can exhaust himself to ill health and an unsustainable debt. The press will continue to ignore him and his concerns, regardless of what he does (including stopping traffic), but will give ample coverage to Natalie and the Sheriff.

The irresponsibly partisan press is something that we have accepted. But it is still worth noting. The compromised parties do not have that challenge, so their members simply do not understand it.

  34. @Grenville

This comment may seem harsh but Adamson is not taken seriously.

  35. So I, Piece the Legend, will continue to reveal why, I, mindful of the belief that the leader of the Opposition party Joseph Atherley is a plant, WILL CONTINUE TO ILLUSTRATE WHY JOE’s MOLASSES POLITICAL STRATEGY will not work!

To do this Piece the Legend needs evidence so you continue to understand what I am saying.

Do a google search for “Leader of the Opposition Joseph Atherley” and see if, AMONG THE THINGS THAT SURFACE, anything comes to the top of the piss that enhanced his leadership OR CONTRIBUTES TO THE PDP POLICY POSITION!

    NOT ONE FVUCK!

In fact, here is an an item from the internet

“… Opposition Leader Joseph Atherley – Posts | Facebook
    http://www.facebook.com/YouCanTrustJoe/posts/
Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley. Atherley in favour eliminating of 11-Plus Sat, 06/08/2019 – 8:00am Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley has no issues with the proposal of the present Barbados Labour Party to eventually eliminate or abolish the Common Entrance Examination, also referred…”

Do any of you understand this?

Let me show you these words again THAT IMPACT ON ANY BAJAN SEARCHING THE INTERNET, to see what Joseph Atherley AND THE PdP are doing!

“…Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley has no issues with the proposal of the present Barbados Labour Party…”

    Has no issue!

That is a PdP death knoll for the PdP

Conversely, I Piece the Legend, EXPERT STRATEGIST, HATED FOR SUCH SKILLS BY THE RENTED JACKASSES OF HEE HEE AND HEE HAW, heheheheh ask you to google Senator Caswell Franklyn Barbados AND WATCH HOW HE APPEARS AS THE MAN WHO ALONE IS FIGHTING THE BLP ADMINISTRATION!

Are wunna unnerstanding whu de ole man is saying?

I am not here on Barbados Underground to tote the agenda of the Minister of Disinformation nor the Rented Jackasses

    http://imgur.com/4PD5Xmg

What I want wunna to understand is the mechanism of Communication that the current Leader of the Opposition IS CURIOUSLY ENOUGH, NOT USING!

And this is why Caswell Franklyn WAS ROBBED AT GUNPOINT as sleepy Joe continues to pull on Mugabe’s tears and doggie, figuratively speaking

    Heheheheh

  36. Piece go take your meds. Here you are trying to advise Rev Atherley who was elected by the people to stand down for a political neophyte in Mr Franklyn whose only claim to fame is of leading a trade union and in my view posturing for the cameras in the senate through the same Rev Atherley. What political credentials does Mr Franklyn possess?Where is he going to run? What is his philosophy? My prediction neither Mr Franklyn or Rev Atherley will win anything in 2023 in my view. One more thing nobody pays me to come on here to expose your rubbish i do it with pleasure.

  37. @ the Honourable Blogmaster

You are probably the original David of the BU BORG

Otherwise you would never have said

“…For a good third party to take root in Barbados it will call for a team of like minded people with a national profile and access to funding.

Barbadians will not vote for a third party by default…”

You are on target LESS TWO CRITICAL THINGS

    A RESONANT MESSAGE & DELIVERABLES!

Adamson, Grenville or any of the others, HAVE NO MESSAGE!

    Neither does Atherley! at 2019!

Without a DELIVERABLE ALL OF THEM IS WASTING TIME!

People WILL NOT EMBRACE a third party just because they sound good!

    IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!

Go the Reverend Joseph Atherley ‘s Facebook page AND YOU WILL SEE THAT HE SAYS NOTHING OF ANY WORTH ABOUT HIMSELF.

    NOTHING!

In fact all he does is give a description of the importance of the Breadfruit tree in Barbados.

Every other video is a PdP video.

In short HIS OWN FACEBOOK PAGE, SHOWS HIM TO BE A MAN OF STRAW.

    You feeling me?

Even I Piece have more nous than the Leader of the Opposition
    .
That is extremely bad BECAUSE IT SHOWS THAT NO ONE IS ADVISING THEM ABOUT HOW THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS MUST ALL BE INTEGRATED.

When I, as an interested bajan, do a search for any name of a PdP member, when I get to their page, I need to see something more than a BREADFRUIT tree story!

You see why when Mr. Vincent Codrington suggests a 6 month campaign why I disagree?

I, PIECE THE LEGEND, HAVE SPOKEN!

  38. @ Caleb

Many thanks. And a most Prosperous and Rewarding New Year to you too.

  39. @ William

I was never a member of the NDP, but are you saying the Richie I got to know and appreciate was not the real deal? Shortly before his death, he was talking about re-launching the party. His premature death stopped him.

  40. We have a tall order.

@ TheOldGaxerts: Re WURA’s arguments, and the broader political context, we must never forget the dictum that you will always find a quisling or quislings in every age.

I believe I said elsewhere that WURA was right on the money on some other issue, despite his colorful language and glowing remarks. These, I attribute solely to frustration stemming from perceived shortcomings in the status quo. Criticizing such shortcomings is necessary, prudent and wise for anyone who would advance a constructive critique of Caribbean political “bs” and sometimes Bajan smug, self-righteous hocus-locus, but, in the end, perhaps sadly, like swatting a swarm of flies in the oppressive heat. Uh gone.

  41. @ David
You surprise with such a question. You stated that I was “being nice” by refusing to accept or say that Haynes was the reason the party folded. I attempted to put the folding of the party in a more philosophical frame.
I don’t know about any efforts to rebirth the party.
My only connection with the NDP is the manifesto I signed as a candidate for the party in 1991. I continue to defend that manifesto up to this day.
I am now hoping that a political tsunami comes and wipe the crooked Duopoly off the map.
While holding such feelings I have to ironically hope that Mottley succeeds in whatever she thinks will create a better life for the poor black Barbadians that are foremost in my thoughts.
It’s a real philosophical and ideological conundrum but I want success for my country.

  42. More than 70% of Americans felt their country was in decline.

TRUMP’S RESPONSE, MAGA, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

Close to 80% of Americans reckon there is corruption in Washington.

TRUMP’S RESPONSE: DTS, DRAIN THE SWAMP.

Trump won because he appealed to well over half the electorate across party lines.

Here in Barbados I reckon close to 100% feel Barbados has declined and there is corruption.

We do not need a third party.

All we need is perhaps 10 truthful, believable individuals who are going to work for the betterment of Barbados and are mature enough to come together and attract a few from the other parties.

But they have to win their seats on individual merit and with the simplest of messages with which the B’s and D’s cannot compete.

Better if they can self fund!!

They don’t need to take the GOB first time around, just present a strong opposition devoted to MBGA and DTS!!

Check the polls Pat Caddell carried out in 2013 which foretold the arrival of Donald Trump long before he came down the escalator.

  43. I’ll stick my neck out further.

Just as the Democrats are close to disintegration and the Republicans have been forced to re-engineer, both the B’s and D’s are in a similar position.

All it takes is for a few good men/women.

  44. How can one person be so right and so wrong at the same time?????

    John, John, John!

The man was smart enough to figure out the electorate and corrupt enough to manipulate and take advantage of it. He is not draining the swamp he is causing it to overflow!

The man is the original swamp creature!

  45. This comment may seem harsh but Adamson is not taken seriously.

NOR DOES GRENVILLE PHILIPS DESPITE HIS TWO NON CONSEQUENTIAL WEEKLY POSTS ON BU WHICH CONTINUE TO REVEAL THAT SOLUTIONS BARBADOS HAS NO SOLUTIONS FOR BARBADOS

  46. The B’s and D’s are both corrupt.

Neither of them will do what the electorate wants, like the Republicans and Democrats in the USA!!

All we need is someone who will do what the electorate wants and take on the B’s and D’s.

Everybody knows what the electorate wants, anybody could have done what Trump did except Trump was self funded.

His/her/their support will be across the board.

No party is needed although it is easier to clean out one!!.

It is the same in most countries Trump just did it.

There is a guy in the Ukraine who until elections were called was a comedian!!

    He did it too!!

Just needs somebody smart enough and brave enough!!

  47. We just need a few brave men/women.

Better if they are smart too but the primary qualification is bravery.

@Donna, if I may use ur remarks as the response target to these latest posts…from @John in particular . I give my riposte towards you to avoid being labelled rude or disrespectful to @John 😁

One gets weary of his deliberate BS lies!

The POTUS did spend millions of his own money but it’s absurd alternative universe living to proclaim that he self-funded … which as the words INTEND means he 100% relied on his own resources… He DID NOT.

AS with EVERY aspect of his campaign the man SAID one thing and DID exactly the opposite…. In short he lied!

According to data I recall glossing over after the election it was reported that he raised over $300 million and spent just over $60 mil of his own funds … The exact numbers are very available so it boggles the mind that there is such gumption to simply repeat untruths! Why, why, why!

Sad, very painfully sad that big men can lie so brazenly and yet expect sensible folks to accept them as reasonable !

    SMH!

And BTW it’s remarkable that pundits trot out this talking point that Trump tapped into what the so-called people wanted…

…some people always want to be jingoistic/nativist or selfish or vindictive and it’s the job of good leaders to find a way to tamp down on those passions and excite the populace to be inclusive, multicultural and as compassionate as can be …. Any rabid demagogue can inflame the former.

This man didn’t have some genius appreciation of the US populace … He merely embraced their darkest passions !

    Anyhow enough of this.

  49. The easiest way to kill ANY DISCUSSION ABOUT THIRD PARTY MOVEMENT INITIATIVES on BU, in fact any discussion on BU, is to say something to John the Quaker about Donald Trymp.

John, once you insert Donald Trump into the subject matter, going kill de subject, ONE TIME!

    heheheheh heheheheh

He is not draining the swamp he is causing it to overflow!

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The swamp reacted to him exactly as it should have.

It tried to destroy him … still trying.

In the process of trying to destroy him, crimes were committed.

    His targets exposed themselves.

Barr and Durham will close in as the new year progresses and make their cases.

Could be by the time elections roll around he will have this under control too.

MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN – Done, moved to KEEP AMERICA GREAT

BUILD THE WALL – Built by Mexico on its southern border.

    DRAIN THE SWAMP – Progressing.

What the electorate, both Democrat and Republican, wanted he is doing or has done!!

It did not take being smart to figure it out, it is the same thing electorates all over the world want.

But to deliver it means taking on the establishment elites and winning.

Unless something unforeseen happens he will get more of the 70-80% of the electorate who want what the 20% elites don’t.

He got just under 50% at his first go, not bad for a novice.

Now he has delivered and is delivering, some of the remaining 20-30% will trust him with their votes.

Barring anything unforeseen he may get in excess of 60% of the popular vote in 2020.

That’s why the 20% elites are trying to destroy him because he means to isolate and destroy them and their way of life!!

He will unify America, well 60-80% of it!!
