Can the two major political parties work together for the good of country?
Can the two major political parties work together for the good of country?

Pure Confusion From her first day on the job the Leader of the Opposition had promised to raise hell in Barbados. On the day she was sworn in she had sworn that she would be “sparing no punches”. So indeed Ms. Mottley came out of her corner fighting. She indicated that, “the Opposition was prepared to let Government introduce its new programmes free from ‘advice’ from the BLP, but once it was divulged her team would voice its concerns.” This indicates that the Leader of the Opposition never had any intention to work with the Government to take this country forward. Now what is all of this talk about, “For love of Country”? Opposition Leader Mia Mottley has sought every opportunity to paint the worse picture of Barbados possible. One would recall her use of the term, “Economic Terrorism”, in her response to the Estimates debate on March 18th 2013.

Before the world and for ever recorded in the most prestigious record of a country’s history the Leader of the Opposition chose to make political mileage from an unfortunate incident which had occurred the day before involving visitors to the country. Whenever she gets an opportunity to speak she speaks of a Barbados filled with suffering people and on the brink of collapse. One must agree with our Honourable Prime Minister that the BLP led by Opposition Leader Mia Mottley is out of touch with reality. “The Barbados filled with suffering people and on the brink of collapse is a figment of the opposition BLP’s imagination.”

Barbados would be well rid of politicians like mottley, arthur and some in the BLP who cry down their country at every opportunity.

Mia Mottley is like a gad fly.

How much mo time should we give these people?….how many mo chances nuh? ……someone said they need a second term to complete what they started…and we obliged…..now what?…….still can’t get it right ..yes …so is find somebody to blame…..gimme a break !

  6. Could anyone explain what the Dems have actually accomplished?
2nd Term to complete what? Total RUINATION of Bdos?

  7. Money brain look who talking aboutb “ruination of country” take a look at Haiti and see what your capatalist friends have done. you ought to be ashamed of pointing fingers.when you endorsed a “captalist system ” built on greed that have contributed to the many economic countries worldwide .The small islands are now reaping the economic downdraft from their imperalistic and selfserving attitude. U just take a look before pointing fingers or placing balme. Yes “capatalist pigs” have left all in ruination..

  8. Moneybrain………….i gotta tell ya, ac really got a point, but, the weak kneed black politicians in the Caribbean are just as equally to blame AND now they know (the hardest thing is to know) let’s see how they handle it, so far they are doing a really bad job in Bim, i don’t know how much longer they can last before the implosion………..but hey, we have no where to go so let’s watch them disintegrate…….

  9. somebody said that govt is a continumin . However after the BLP was thrown out what was left was a paltry US million or so dollars to serve and help to rebuild and restructure an economy that was destablise for lack of good goverance and in economic shock because of the global upheavel. So far MIA and her crew has maintained and sustained a stance that has not help but hurt.her offerings are destructive and are catered to the yardfowl menatliy of Doom and gloom.

The job of the Opposition is to oppose and keep the Government on its toes. I find that Douglas wants Mia to join hands with the Government and run this country. That is not her job. How the hell do you expect her to help the Government do its job when she seem not to have a clue about her own job?

Let’s face it, both Government and Opposition are doing a piss poor job. I believe the nonsense coming out of the Opposition is merely a show as they have no intention of displacing the DLP. Mia’s antics are merely a show for the gullible who would her halfhearted contribution to national debate.

ac……you know you are blatantly lying now, problem with yardfowls, i was in Barbados when the DLP took over from the BLP and the DLP along with central bank governor of the day stated that there was a SURPLUS of foreign exchange and money in the treasury……….what US one million what, so where would the DLP have gotten the money to run the country for nearly 6 years if there was only 2 million dollars in the treasury and central bank combined, why do yall think you can lie incessantly and hood-wink people, you could not even get that one past my 6 year old grandson.

  12. Owen Arthur embarrasses Barbados as does Mia Mottley and the BLP group. Should just find themselves a rabbit hole and stay in it, al of them – the BLP gang.

  13. WELL WELL good question where would the DLP get the money.. outside of borrowing and increasing the vat or floating bonds …. all mentioned was the only source of income the govt used to sustain the economy after having the the measly paltry unsustainable sum left by the BLP was not enough to keep country running. Wunna think people fool. What money.. House falling down wid the vodoi economic policy of putting money in people hands meantime house fall to the ground.Steupse….

  15. You see all this goes back to the goverance of a country and govt who fell into a trap being sold a bill of goods with promisory notes to pay in the future. what most countries are now realising that these bills are become due especially the poor islands who only had a one size fits all poilcy via tourismnow seeing a downslide have little or no wriggle room for easing while and caught up in the iron grips of paying off huge debts keeping the people happy and stopping the country from crumbling..

  16. So tell me onions how far u tink that 2.8 billion Would go when converted into foreign currency to feed the flock and pay off high debt. not enough to even buy ac a topsy brass bowl.

  17. @AC
    MB’s Capitalist Friends???
If you had read and comprehended my rantings against the decisions and actions of US et al Politicians and the Wall St Financial types you would not waste your time placing MB in that Club.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF that any other system but an INCENTIVE Based System works or can work. The Commies FAILED MISERABLY in Russia and China, the Socialists have FAILED in India and Europe. The USA has failed in recent years because they have turned Socialist and have NOT ensured proper Systems for Education, Health Care or other critical areas. The Irony of various attitudes of Govt Depts is as follows:

The Food Stamp Program is distributing to 46 Million People now versus 17 MN just 6 yrs ago. Meanwhile, National Park Service states, “Please do NOT FEED the animals” Their stated reason for this policy is”The animals will grow DEPENDENT on handouts and will NOT learn to take care of themselves” Thus ends the lesson in Irony.

The answer is to truly HELP people to help themselves by sensible Programs that assist people to develop themselves and rise above their predicament! I have NEVER suggested that the US (or Capitalism) is perfect.

Just because MB is in the Money Business does NOT mean that I am in any way responsible for the Failure! It does NOT mean that I ASSOCIATE with those types either! I detest Financial and Political “leaders” who are RUINING the World!

ac…………had the BLP retained power, they would have had to do the same thing……….2 billion is more than adequate at that time in 2008 with a population of 300,000 to keep the country afloat, problem is and you keep forgetting that the BLP was warned before 2008 to cut spending and the DLP would have known this before they assumed office and upon taking office were also warned by the same rating agencies to cut spending, neither of the idiots BLP or DLP listened, it was their arrogant belief that they were both untouchable as it pertained to an international recession, so we can safely say both the DLP and BLP screwed Barbados….both parties to be blamed and no one else, both need to leave the political landscape on the island, they are nothing but a waste of space, by the way ac how did the DLP manage to screw up the Rihanna show, looks like my relative is right, they can only successfully manage a cockup.

More bad news for Bim with Canada looking lame and US slowing. China is growing much slower than the Pols want to admit NOT 7.6% BUT more like 4%. Hence, Commodity producing Countries like Canada, Australia, Brazil, Sth Africa et al will have less demand from China, the major importer of Commodities/ resources.

The wicked Price that MUSt eventually be paid for Creating Gargantuan sums of Money out of thin air, may soon hit this weak Global Economy. Don’t let the Americans and Europeans pull the wool over your eyes peeps the Financial consequences of the West’s Financial MADNESS is about to experience the second CRUSHING BOOT to drop on our THROATS!

BE PREPARED! The social consequences will NOT be pretty, why do you think Homeland Security procured 2BN Bullets? Many Armed Personell Carriers? etc

The BLP can’t handle the DLP and considering their past (BLP) should just leave them alone or face consequences. The DLP seemingly does not know what in the hell they were doing. The BLP for certain did not know what in the hell they were doing. The DLP did indeed put an end to the Owen Arthur regrime, knocked him off his block. Arthur didn’t even see it coming. In Juanuary 2008 David Thompson was sworn in as Prime Minister and Arthur, he decided to step down as BLP leader and did. Mottley was then chosen as party leader but two years later, Arthur knocked her off the block. The Four BLP members in 2010 gave Arthur a vote of confidence and her Mottley NO CONFIDENCE. LOL

I think the BLP has embarrassed themselves enough otherwise should pick their fights carefully.

  23. MONEY BRAIN don’t get me wrong. i am not against the system , But the maggots and snake oilsalesman who invaded the system selling propaganda and bull shit as the bset way forward then feast upon the intellect of the intelligent unsuspecting suspects finally hog tying them holding them in a vise grip until every bit of blood is drawn out of their economical body leaving them to die and be buried in a paupers grave, That is the long and short of what has happen to most third world countries.
However govts who has alowwed such mayhem to happen is also as culpuable since some of them lead their country by way of greed and selfserving while closing the door on patriotism and pride at which is now .
replaced with a symbol of yartfowlism and rhetoric,,,

We AGREE! What is worse is what the Pols are visiting on their own people in the US by permitting the crookedness with mortgages etc.

  25. now fuh instance take WEll WELL and onions, they talking about 2,8billion dollars left in the coffers, Wud they don”t seem to realize that a big chunck of that money is borrowed which must be repaid with high interest. it is not as if the govt had “REAL MONEY”” that was free and clear of debt and was and handed over to country . Hell NO. that money coupled with look good on paper but when coupled with compound interest has put the country in big shite debt, and can’t do much in way of moving a country forward more often than not it contributes to burdening debt and stagnates the economy inflows keeping a country in economic doldrums for years to come and the beneficiares are the captalist who knew all too well how to entice and entrap through greed wheras these govt would always bite,
Sustaining these economics are hard and all the long talk and especially those in opposition constant drumbeat of doom and gloom makes it even harder for these countries to relase themselves from these choke holds while they chip away at the spirit and national pride of a nation shaming all into beliving that our nation as a whole is not worth a damn. sending the wrong message to outsiders looking in and most important of all putting politics before country and the economic fragity of a nation in harms way…..those who choose that dastardly path would have alot to answer for if or ever this country should ever fail,. .

i do not believe that it will be BLP to kick out this government but with each passing day i see the people of Barbados demanding that the DLP leaves. a country can only take so much, you can only push so far after that something’s got to give. the government can carry on foolishly as they are doing now but the day is fast coming when people will take to the streets and when it happens i don’t think it will be anything like the 1937 riots. we keep assuming that Barbadians are sheeple, docile and laid-back but that was the 19th and 20th century folks, we are a different generation and no longer believe that the best brains are running the country

  27. Moneybrain….the contractions in the economies are increasing at an alarming rate, JPMorganChase just sold Chase Manhattan Plaza to a Chinese firm, of course they are up the creek what with all those billion dollar payouts to the feds.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/jpmorgan-agrees-pay-5-1b-resolve-claims-misled-fannie-freddie-article-1.1497116

and another 13 billion dollar fine

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/jpmorgan-reaches-tentative-13b-agreement-doj-article-1.1490898

that news certainly does not bode well for 2014 and 2015

  28. ac…………..read Moneybrain’s post, it is never real money, never free and clear and never free of debt, that is how the system was designed and if your DLP masters cannot understand that, then they will never get it right, the island will stay in trouble………..an intelligent government would know this and act accordingly, it is all pulled out of thin air, it was not a new phenomena when the DLP took office, they were just not prepared for realities and forgot they had not won a prize but actually had to work and produce results………..it’s not a game, managing a country is serious business.

  29. Sustaining high debt economics brought about by extensive borrowing by govts are hard and diffcult to undertake , . and all the long talk and especially those in opposition constant drumbeat of doom and gloom makes it even harder for these countries to relase themselves from these choke holds while they chip away at the spirit and national pride of a nation shaming all into beliving that our nation as a whole is not worth a damn. sending the wrong message to outsiders looking in and most important of all putting politics before country and the economic fragity of a nation in harms way…..those who choose that dastardly path would have alot to answer for if or ever this country should ever fail,.

the above comment is a partial statement of a comment made by ac yesterday …..to further expand on the comment .i read today where the business community is sick and tired of the negativity coming from those who in my opinion belive that bad mouthing the country economy is justification to bringing barbnados out of the economic dreadlock. Not surprising to hear the business community speak out on this matter cause realistically when one back is in a corner the last thing one wants is for the members of the household to take big stick and beat on them. the business community by nowmight be feeling the negative effects of such criticism driven in part by the leadership of the BLP and the many yardfowls ! and articles via social media ! and radio and newspaper, There comes a time when one have to say enough is enough ,Nothing wrong with crticism ,however criticism is of such a destructive nature and an ongoing regurgitation is the tantamount to deliberate and purposeful assasination of a country and its economy .

  30. many have been saying for a long time that this political assination by the leadership of the BLP MIA MOTTLEY on the economy is poisionous and leaves a caustic effect on the business enviroment of the country. Being passionate about a cause or an issue does not mean destroying everything in the way, this woman eversince she was handed the leadership has wasted no expense at the price of a nation economy at being hostile in her approach almost to the point of callous in disapportionately sending messages of fear and doom which as time goes on errodes! clearly hampers and dampens not only the spirit of a nation but sends a dark cloud of suspicion over the nation economy as a whole,, This is a very dangerous and unforgiving tactic on her part .As one who speaks about patriotism , it seems as if MIA bones of patriotism has been buried or dried up for obvious political reason by putting country last and her goal to be PM first,, ABSOLUTELY DISTRESSING!

  32. Onions….sometimes i swear ac don’t even know what century she is living in, for sure she don’t understand that the black governments in the Caribbean are leading a system that they did NOT design, ac in other words they have been roped into a system not of their own making so therefore they are following a template, the way things are going worldwide, looks like they are following that template straight to hell..

ac……….for your information, governments have always had to do whatever it takes to keep economies afloat, nothing new, just admit the DLP were not prepared. Governments have always had to borrow, particularly if they import 90% of their food when they should be growing their own food, remember, food security, and they should also be manufacturing, where is the high production in Bim, ask the DLP why they did not initiate all that instead of spending over half billion dollars a year importing food………….

As for Bizzy Williams et al, the negativity started when them and their ilk started bribing local government officials and hogging everything on the island, never giving anyone else on the island (particularly if you are black) an opportunity to prosper….they got the same politicians to stop their own people from doing business that would at least have stood a chance of expanding regionally and internationally, why? cause they are greedy and feel they should own every business in Barbados, while the population remains consumers. THAT IS NEGATIVITY. While Williams keeps going on about negativity he should tell bajans how much money him and his brother have contributed over the years to these two political parties both DLP and BLP and what favors they got and are still getting in return………

Wonder when she will be honest with the public about her involvement with Dottin.

Ask Mottley who it was that financed the Queens Park Fair for the BLP a few weekends ago?

Ask her if it was not the same Bizzy Williams who under wrote the cost of the event with his cheque for $ 150,000.00 to give her the money to put on the event

Don’t come round the Barbadian public with those Crocodile Tears Bizzy, if you want to be a politician and be in politics say so and come to the people and offer yourself as a candidate or form a party and face the public and come thru their front doors not thru the back doors and pulling strings of politicians on your pay role and instruct these people like Mottley, do not continue to let Hallam Nicholls relieve you of your cash for a political mission.

  35. truthfully not one to take sides on the business aspect of this country expect when they treat their employees unfaily and expect govt to do all the heavy lifing then they feel the warth of ac. HOwever only a FOOL would deny that MIA MOTTLEY and her bandwagon of BLP yardfowls malcontent has been an hindrance bobbing and weaving influence to undermine govt projects and to damen investor confidence, bizzy might be shedding crocodile tears but there is a lot of truth in what he has no say,,

  36. @ac

Again you are being one sided, Bizzy was clear in his statement that both sides need to stop the politics not so?

  37. Bizzy was being diplomatic..something that MIA should and could used to her advantage as she punches ! kicKS ! and administer body blows to the economy. Bizzy what else do you expect to hear him say in respect not having to offend one party or another. afterall both parties contributes to his meal ticket,,

Wonder how he was helping to calm things down with his injection of $ 150,000.00 to Mottley here recently for the Queens Park Fiasco. These fellows are good actors in truth.

  40. Bizzy and company are playing the game that has served them well for decades in Barbados, they FUND the negativity among the politicians, it’s called divide and conquer, the politicians don’t mind because their bribes are assured, both parties get to manipulate their individual political yardfowls, keep the electorate in line, and the minorities like Bizzy et al get to conduct their businesses in peace and become millionaires, no competition from the blacks, because the politicians are making sure the blacks can never move forward or progress financially on the island without a big fight from government, the blacks who do prosper have to be aligned with the government through familial contacts, lodges or whatever corrupt thing must be done to become part of the clique, the minorities make money off the majority black population and pretend, like now in the case of Bizzy, that they had nothing to do with manipulating the politicians and funding all the negativity in the first place……..BUT, none of them ever believed their chickens would come home to roost and all their nasty practices would be exposed, all the negativity that has been practiced for so many decades has successfully brought the island to it’s knees, maybe we should all be thanking the world recession, maybe now there will be a change for the better.

ac……..don’t for a minute think that the DLP never took bribes from cow, bizzy, jada, simpson, ram or the other minorities on the island as well, not even you could be that foolish, or could you???

  41. YeAH ! MAM the loudest drum in the pack. can’t help but hear the sounds,,,

Keep up the good work CBC – you are showing the Nation newspaper that even though it is a public station, it is giving the BLP opposition plenty of coverage which is healthy in a democracy despite whatever political side we support.
On that note, seated in the front seat at the BLP conference in his red shirt was the chairman and boss of the Nation newspaper parent company Sir Fred Gollop, a former BLP senator. You now wonder why the Nation newspaper is so anti government in its columns and coverage. Connect the dots Barbados.
    I told you so.

Also present in the crowd at the BLP conference was former BHTA president Colin Jordan who when he was BHTA president used this position to publicly condemn Prime Minister Stuart for allegedly not responding to a request to meet with the BHTA.
The Prime Minister’s office later produced the official acknowledgement and response which was sent to the BHTA.
Now we learn that the same Colin Jordan is seeking the BLP nomination for the St. Peter Seat.
It is said when people are coming to the public as part of national organizations pretending to be serving the interests of a sector when their only objective is to play politics.
When Chris Sinckler said that Jordan was a BLP supporters, the media was quick to condemn him. Chris has been proven right.

  44. I wonder why one of the prominent white bajan businessman approached a leading trade unionist to think about having a march, similar to what occurred in the 1990’s. That gentleman was rebuked for suggesting such a strategy.

  45. The old conservative elite who sat on their behinds importing and selling Bajans at exhorbitant prices until the Trinis out maneuvered them are still sitting down waiting on the government to bail out their hotels and retail operations.
Barbados needs to move ahead by encouraging real entrepreneurs in the areas of culture, agriculture, international business and a first rate science, technical and vocational education.
We can rise above the current economic difficulties and we will but we must not get up every morning and see the glass as half empty when it is half full.

    ___________________________________

These prominent (in Barbados only) bajan white businessmen are clearly seeing themselves being pushed out eventually when the people on the island finally realize that they DO NOT need the minorities for their survival, the minorities (bizzy, seale, et al) don’t believe they have made enough millions off the backs of black people (the majority on the island) and they will try any and everything to keep the current DIVIDE going, that is what enriches them, that DIVIDE between the political parties and people on the island manifests the weakest link among the people……….now people are aware, let’s see if the black politicians from both political parties DLP/BLP allow it to continue to the detriment and beginning poverty of their own people.

  47. 2david, et al.
Has anybody asked the very pertinent question: were the shares of BS&T, now owned by Neal and Massey (wholly) paid for in U.S. dollars? If so where is the foreign currency? Where was it deposited? Do any Barbadian business owners deposit their money in offshore Tax Havens? How is it that the “rich Bajans” don’t seem to have any money to buy Barbadian businesses that are up for sale? Even if they did not buy Barbados National Bank shares, why couldn’t they buy out BS&T shares? These are the questions Bajans should be asking. Where is the Bajan money? How much foreign exchange is held by Bajan businesses in offshore businesses or subsidiaries?

  48. Alvin………..I believe Moneybrain already said that the bajan business class bank their money in foreign countries and have been for some time, you may want to check Argentina and other countries, he also said that there were blacks on the island (in true follow pattern style) who have done the same thing……….what you need to ask the DLP to do is check and see who passed foreign exchange through the central bank in large amounts over the years, you can eliminate the ones who took the money out, or attempted to anyway, in briefcases, that is presuming that the politicians and their esteemed friends have not done the very same thing. lol.

  49. Alvin……….as a matter of fact, i nearly forgot, in the 90’s i had two corporate jobs in NY, could not save $10 because i had entered another tax bracket, but i was stunned to find out that bajans who neither lived nor worked in the US had million dollar bank accounts stashed away in the US, it got so bad that the FBI had to go to Barbados and investigate, not that anything came of it, but the name Straughn associated with the then BLP government kept surfacing, so your buddies in the DLP may have the information you need.
