I am so happy to have read Mia Mottley pushing for minimum wage. I mentioned in an earlier posting that I feel such a move would be helpful to those at the bottom of the ladder.  By doing this, it will actually stop many from being underpaid  for a hard days work.  Others holding degrees or other accreditation gives them a much better opportunity to receive higher pay.

This is needed like yesterday to make life much better for the little man. But in doing so you will have to make sure that the cost of living is taken into consideration to make it work. If you want to improve and to follow the policies of other countries this is one area that needs to be adopted for sure.

My hat off to Mia also for showing a different campaign approach.  This is showing growth.    Kill the name calling, finger pointing and all the other dumb behaviour which has nothing to do with the issues at hand.  Respect each other at all times.  It seems so childish that an adult would stand on a platform and disrespect another human-being.  I hope and pray that this will be the start of better things to come in Barbados politics.

I admire Mara Thompsons’ approach to stepping up as a candidate for St. John and seeing how young and old are rallying behind her.  I just have this deep feeling that Mrs Mara Thompson is the best person for the job judging from her followers. We all need a chance to prove that we are worthy  to hold any position in life. Mrs Mara Thompson, winning on January 20th 2011, will be the best birthday gift I could receive. I know that you are going to WIN, GO MARA.

GOD Bless Barbadians at home and abroad.

  1. Seems Mia agrees with Charles. She has called for a lifting of the debate.

    Pretty Blue Eyes

Mia is the woman for the moment. She was unfaired and this action is only showing up her as an excellent leader and Owen Arthur as an idiot. I don’t know why he won’t retire and let Mia take over again

  3. Mia maybe the leader in waiting but she may* have to wait awhile. Even if Arthur were to leave for whatever reason can Mia command the majority of her parliamentary group?

  4. YES SHE CAN. Owen took advantage of fact that David Thompson was terminally ill. He felt that there would have been a power struggle within the DLP, hence early elections. He went for the power grab and now has fallen flat on his face. He is making himself look like an ass every time he speaks. He did well for Barbados during his time as Prime Minister but his LEGACY is slowly slipping away.

  5. If Arthur were to leave would the gang of now 4 support Mia? Doubt it!

  6. Bashing Owen does not help. You people live in a fool’s paradise. And by the way how was Mia unfaired? If she could not maintain a majority of a small Parliamentary group what does that say about her? Stop swelling that woman’s head. She still has alot to learn. Patience is a virtue that she seems not to have.
BTW I wonder if she did not have lineage if you all would be fuelling these destructive fires. Owen does not merit this abuse.

  7. In case you Mia-backers did not realize Owen has the best track record of electoral success of all our leaders. Even when he was defeated he managed to get 10 seats. In 1999 he took the DLP down to 2 seats. Get off the man’s back!

  8. @Jenny M

In the same way some have views whether Mara should run in St. John so too others feel that Mia was unfaired by her colleagues at the hands of demagoguery.

BTW, Sylvan Greenidge left a note on our facebook page which clearly suggest that his loyalty remains with Mia.

  9. In politics, one has to be on the inside to really know what is going on.

I must admit at first I was very upset at what was happening but I also wondered why Mia threw down the gauntlet and stirred up confusion in the first place after her first year as leader. My problem with Mia is that she should have attended the meeting with her parliamentary colleagues if she had done nothing wrong as she claimed and defended herself. Well, it seems that all was not well and the BLP will never discuss what really happened as is their policy.

I now doubt that she will ever be leader again judging from what I have seen at the meetings. She arrives just around the time she was scheduled to speak to draw maximum attention, said what she had to say, appearing to be above the fray but not saying anything really, did not mix or go near to her colleagues and left. This does not make for mending fences.

I cannot see how these same people would vote for her to be a leader. I still admire her and think she has a political future but right now, she is behaving like a spoilt brat.

  10. The only person behaving like a spoiled brat is OAS. I am so glad to see how the DLP is kicking his backside at the political meetings. It would have been more interesting to see the two woman as rivals on the political trail. No body has respect for Arthur he has been a nightmare for his party while campaiging.

  11. ”Mia is the woman for the moment. She was unfaired ”

Depends on why she was ‘relieved’ of the leadership.

It goes far more than Owen wanting power, that is a joke. His hand was forced.

  12. Good evening gentle folks. Members of the BU family can view tonights DLP meeting live online at http://www.dlpbarbados.org
The broadcast just started. Continue to support Queen Mara and the DLP team. Enjoy, and God Bless.

  13. David wrote,”BTW, Sylvan Greenidge left a note on our facebook page which clearly suggest that his loyalty remains with Mia.”

So you mean to tell me that SyllyG turn he back on de man he defended and supported before de las election? Dah en soun rite.

  14. It is time for Barbados to have another political party. Barbadians are no fools. We remain quiet but pay in-depth attention to the events of both parties, Frankly, I am not impress with the performance of the DLP and neither do I have any confidence in leaving my house to vote for the BLP. I believe that the crude manner in which Mia Mottley was OUSTED from leader of the opposition was wrong and sends the wrong message to our youth and children about conflict resolution. Miss Mottley, along with those supporting members of the party should disassociate themselves from the BLP, create a new party, Soon, before the final nail is driven in the coffin.
