A decision by the government to support same sex civil unions with legislation was shared by the government in the much anticipated Throne Speech last week. The government cloaked its support for the decision by promoting Barbados as being “in the vanguard of pioneering social justice, the protection of civil rights and the battle to ensure dignity to the poor, marginalized, vulnerable and dispossessed…is prepared to recognize a form of civil unions for couples of the same gender so as to ensure that no human being in Barbados will be discriminated against, in exercise of civil rights that ought to be theirs.”

The government stopped short of also recognizing gay marriage to avoid a battle with the Church and a society happy to be labelled Christian.

It is hardly a secret the blogmaster abhors the homosexual lifestyle. However acceptance across the globe, especially in so called developed countries continues to rise. Using simple natural law theory a man was born with a penis, a woman with a vagina. This makes it self evident what the creator intended. Some will call-out the blogmaster as being overly simplistic and this is fine.

The blogmaster has never gotten tired of David vs Goliath anecdotes. It is the mindset which gave birth to Barbados Underground blog in April of 2007.

If you don’t believe in something, you’ll fall for anything. I believe everything happens for a reason. If you are strong from within, you can will anything. I’m a firm believer that where there’s a will, there’s a way.

It seems Barbados is about to release the homosexual genie from the proverbial lamp at a time when many countries are still debating the issue. The question that must be asked is why the rush? Is Barbados being forced to prioritise what is rightfully referred to as a wedge issue as a requirement to competitively sell the Barbados Welcome Stamp initiative? Is this a case of Prime Minister Mia Mottley because of an overwhelming mandate from the electorate in 2018 and a predilection for the fairer sex feels now is the time to force the change at this time?

The blogmaster understands we have to treat all citizens equally BUT there is something wrong with same sex relationships.

Barbados is an island built on traditional values, it seems we are about to graft homegrown values with those imported from overseas. How will the propagation work out for us? Only time will tell.

    Well, check the internet. Laws have already been passed in many places and there are political currents supportive of it in many others – beastiality.

    Furthermore, they are deploying the same playbook of those pushing the gay agenda.

    In places like the USA some people love their dogs more than others, people or Black people. There are therefore endless possibilities for emotional confusion. Consent cannot be an absolute deterrent!

    Noted, how the trite notion of consent has been erected by two as a rock to hide under. We say trite!

    If Barbados were to legalize same-sex marriages tomorrow, don’t expect any priest within the island’s largest religious organization to officiate over any such ceremony.

    Anglican Bishop of Barbados Reverend Michael Maxwell is also adamant that while his denomination understands that the Government’s recent recognition of
    same-sex civil unions may be a stance against discrimination, gay relationships still would not attract his church’s backing.

    Bishop Maxwell told Barbados TODAY this afternoon that the Anglican Church in Barbados and the rest of the Province of the West Indies remained fortified in its position stemming from a decision of the 1998 Lambeth Conference of Anglican Bishops in England that marriage is a lifelong union of a man and a woman.

    Discrimination against homosexual people is the moral equivalent of racism. It is just as evil.

    You will remember that for many centuries the people who enslaved and tortured your ancestors did so in the name of the same God, supported by passages in the self same Bible that many of you are using to defend your evil discrimination against gay people.

    PLT..gotta agree, seeing that the same perverted raping of males, females, children etc are steeped in slavery, so am totally against discriminating against a practice THAT DEFINED A TORTUROUS LIFE FOR SLAVES…for centuries…especially since it’s a personal choice and people are FREE to do what they will with their own bodies..

    the hypocrisy of it all is that the closet gays in the churches and elsewhere will be the first out of the box to holler and discriminate..

    Again…Mia was well aware how much trouble and controversy all this would cause with her latest trick..

    just go ahead and legalize the same sex thing, marriage whatever already and get rid of all the raging back and forth distraction…no referendum necessary….neither for the marijuana which is another distracting topic…

    BUT….a referendum is needed for republic status….how bout that, the people have a right to their say about THEIR FUTURE and what they want FOR themselves and their future generation…

    I am from the land of equality not lesbos.

    I’ll tell you how it is with me.

    For some reason I never even when I was a child used the words “buller” or “wicker”. I guess I saw no need to disparage people who never bothered me at all. I also never thought much about other people’s sexuality. It was not a feature of my household to do either.

    My mother being a nurse however, did tell me about the problems she witnessed as a result of repeated anal penetration. I also did not like the idea of it.

    But she did connect with one patient who looked. dressed and acted in what I would have called a masculine way and I vaguely remember thinking in passing that she was probably a lesbian. That patient became a constant visitor to our home for whatever reason (my mother had that habit) and none of us made it an issue.

    She was HUMAN!

    We were not constant church goers at that time but we accepted orthodox Christian positions, however, when faced with the humanity of homosexuals we just COULD NOT treat them any differently. This went for those in our community who were generally accepted to be that way inclined as well. We just never concerned ourselves with it.

    And yet my reaction to same sex public displays of affection is still one of averting the eyes.

    That is MY PROBLEM!

    I have a very close neighbour who is homosexual, they say. He has a Friday and Saturday night gig selling barbecued food. I could never bring myself to buy because of the image of anal sex. I knew I had probably eaten numerous times from unknown homosexuals but still persisted in my folly.

    Until I happened to be outside on Friday night and the most appealing smell assailed my senses.

    I called my son and told him to step down the road and purchase.

    “Finally!” said my seventeen year old son.

    It was the best I had ever tasted! Worth every cent!

    Me nah cook this Friday again.

    And I feel freer! I no longer have to sneak past the man, shamefaced.

    Religious doctrine has been used to perpetrate all manner of evil over the ages… this is just one more example in a long and tiresome history. The enslavement of African people was promoted, defended, and excused by the Christian Churches for hundreds of years. Many Christian sects still promote the subjugation of women. There have been homosexual people throughout history; some cultures accepted them as full human beings, some cultures did and do not… but they ARE fully human beings.

    Look many a mariner has been blown on your shores and I am sure a few didnt know if they were in st lucy….st andrew or st john lol. But times change who would have thought everyone would be wearing masks things change , not that long ago you were wearing chicken feet around your necks because of voodoo, and were jumping the broom to get married, rather than worry about what makes some people tick because of your recent religious conversion you should be worried about… do they pay their taxes are they good citizens how do they get there house looking so good. They are just people trying to get through life the best they can and trying to have a little happiness which I think we all want. I am quite frankly ashamed of the way I treated and ignored them at times laughed at them in my younger years… today everyone is afraid of getting cancelled because of how it feels how their life will be over but that is what we did for years ..cancel these people without a second thought.

    I see no need to replace the Christian Church with anything. I have many dear friends who are Christian, but I am agnostic myself. I am comfortable questioning everything and admitting that there is much that I do not know. What I do know is that there are good people and evil people represented in every religion, but the evil people lend to be over represented in the leadership and governance structures of religious organizations (eg there tends to be a higher percentage of corrupt and abusive priests than the percentage of corrupt and abusive Catholics).

    Firstly u have to recognized that there are laws of God which the church must abide
    Secondly the laws of man cannot supersede the laws of God
    However that does not mean that man made laws cannot be justifiable but only in a context that these laws does not apply to the moral grounds upon which is the basic foundation of religion

    We assume that your christian related diatribe was not directed at this writer. So we will address matters germane.

    On the matters captioned above. First permit us to choose our own words, we said backward and meant that – backward.

    In the 1960’s and 1970’s a man called Clyde Gollop supported by the then administrations walked the length and breadth of Barbados performing tubal ligations and handing out all kinds of contraceptions to Bajan women.

    Currently prime minister Mugabe, for whom we have come to know of your long lasting political links, has told us that we have a 80,000 population deficit. We see a link between these two.

    It was people like you who at the time thought the Malthusian work of the Family Planning Association was developmental. If it was so positive, how is it now that we are facing cultural death today?

    Nobody in Barbados wants to see these connections as politicians and their faithful followers embark on a massive political distraction while the economy burns.

    This same message is again being promoted by supposedly well-intentioned people like yourself. In these circumstances, it would be difficult to presume that you can have any claim to being an independent actor.

    On the historiography and logic of racism.

    Your statement is both illogical, ahistorical and highly inconsistent with the accepted definition of racism in academia.

    How could it be that movement of people with an interest in this subject are to be compared with systemic racism.

    Firstly, system racism in right there in Barbados in front of your eyes. Yet neither you nor your prime minister Mugabe cannot see it and take appropriate action. It has been defined by the United Nation, circa 2002, as crypto-racism. And not a word, to this day, by any official in any Barbados government, has been said about that. Yet you have the audacity to come here and liken us to the abhorrence of racism.

    Secondly, there are people of all stripes with an interest in preserving traditional family formation structures, including polygamy and polyandry. This formation has no resemblance whatsoever to the racist ethic emanating out of England 1292.

    Thirdly, in academia racism, unlike the dictionary definition, has a precise and scientific meaning. It is a meaning not subject to the convergence with the LGBTQ argument as promoted by some elite university departments for gender studies and people like Rev. Barber and Al Sharpton. What they have done is to seek to minimize the influence of racism while elevating the LGBTQ issue to be the prominent one our time. They are unwitting actors in the service of a dying neoliberal racist capitalist system.

    Blah blah blah homosexuality is not a chosen lifestyle for many. It is who they are. As long as they don’t trouble you, leave them be and let them enjoy life to the fullest. And let them be recognised as equal citizens if you want them to contribute equally to the kitty.

    Homosexuality does not need to be promoted. It just is.

    Nobody is obligated to repopulate the earth. What does it matter if we become extinct? But if we do, it will not be the fault of homosexuals.

    Brilliant! A man with a helicopter view of the human condition.

    Isn’t it totally unbelievable that a race of people which have been discriminated against in all areas of their existence merely on the basis of the colour of their God-given skin can become so blindly stupid as to promote and practice the same ‘black art’ against other members of the human race who have no control over the determinant factor(s) in their emotional and physical makeup.

    If not for that minority group of morally enlightened white people the same majority of blacks would still be physically enslaved today; as there are mentally.

    Yes, the same ‘majority’ of brainwashed black people who would wish to bring down brimstone and fire today on those who have decided not to practise hypocrisy in their moral closets.

    This overall debate has been roiling Bim since I was a schoolboy … one can hardly say this is a “rush” some 40 plus years later.

    Yes there are over 70 nations which still criminalize same-sex relationships and about 25 who give it legal support … and now Bdos moves to join the latter after a multi decades long harangue by those like Dean Crichlowe et al.

    If you are of that belief that homo sexuality (lesbianism) is an abomination then you will make the counfoundingly frustrating ‘glass half empty’ style assertion that “there is something wrong with same sex relationships” AFTER saying so facilely that the “blogmaster understands we have to treat all citizens equally“.

    There in NO “BUT”. Just as it’s egregious to be considered 3/5 of a human because of the colour of your skin then you surely should not be imprisoned, flogged or sentenced to death because of the choice of your adult human partner.

    If your christian belief system demands adherence to discrimination based on sexual preferences then you need to look upon that side of your christian ethos which says turn the other cheek!

    Pacha…the two must definitely be separate, can’t be treated the same, cant have any blurred lines to breed confusion, it will do more harm than good especially for those who are going to find themselves voluntarily stuck in the west.

    one is straight up discrimination via hypocrisy toward gays…

    the other is all the evil remnants of slavery that can be practiced in this age, combined with black leader’s idoicy and ignorance of keeping the repulsive nastiness alive and well to fill their greedy pockets and obese bellies, that is why i don’t recognize black colonial governments, recognize them even less now they want to unmarry Elizabeth but yet want to keep her colonial system…..but it should be me, cause i would FORCE THEIR ASSES TO DISMANTLE IT FORTHWITH…sit back and watch the fallout..

    Like you I was struck by David BU ‘s claim about “releasing the “homosexual genie”. I was of the opinion he was never under detention and is alive and well in most countries in the world. If we were all honest with ourselves ,it is the Sodomy Act that needs repealing to give clarity to a law that has not been enforced, and probably is unenforceable.
    Secondly, this seems to be a proposal to make socially acceptable the practice of same sex relations. There is a wide distinction between legislation and acceptance. And it will take some time for homosexuality to be acceptable to the majority in a religious ,as distinct from theocratic, society.
    Currently we do tolerate same sex relations. I know of no cases where there has been discrimination of those who practice it.
    My two cents worth to this red herring of a National Issue.

    As a little boy, no taller than a grasshopper, there was a saying in Nelson Street when the navy was in town. If it was the US navy, then the female prostitutes came out; if it was the Royal Navy, then the she-shes such as Gaga came out. Even as a kid, sitting in my grandfather’s shop door, I understood t he difference.
    Barbados never had any problems with homosexuality. The debate has now moved on to talk about transgenderism and gender fluidity. To think legalising same-sex civil unions or same-sex marriages will be the end of the matter is folly.
    Just read the ongoing and heated debate between feminists and transgenderists (Google J.K. Rowling). The question is if we draw a line in the sand, accept the notion of a third sex, or move with advances in medical sciences and the likelihood of men carrying babies.

    We are traveling an untrodden path of late. We are being laws to support what many regard as a deviant lifestyle. It is being led by a PM who all agree is predisposed to devouring this wedge issue.
