At its core politics is the same whether practiced in Bim, US or outer Mongolia (maybe Mongolia is a stretch) but the good lady was fighting tooth and nail to remain in the bosom of the BLP. She wasn’t prepared to go gently into that good night and brought in a local heavy hitter to act on her behalf at the political court martial.
Her legal representative claimed that the hearing was a farce typical of a Monty Python sketch complete with catcalls “yuh got she now”, thumping of tables and as a result they promptly abandoned the show.At some point a statement of claim has to be filed, any legal luminary worth his salt will pepper that claim with the injuries that the plaintiff “suffered’ as a result of the separation from her political home and the public humiliation before her peers.
Don’t you think that Dr. Agard’s occupation is closely entwined with her political reputation? Who is to say that damage in one field doesn’t affect the other? I wouldn’t go out on a limb and conclude that a judge wouldn’t see that possibility after all if last Dec. 24 someone had told me that we would have barbecue weather in Toronto on Dec.24-2015 I would point them in the direction of the nearest psychiatrist.
So excuse me while I go out an observe the full moon.

Obviously if the premise is that politics is about ‘winning at the polls’ and ‘jousting for party leadership’ …presumably with the intent of some day being able to sit in cabinet and sign clandestine contracts resulting in millions of dollars in your mother’s account …then Dee Word has a point….perhaps even Vincent.. 🙂

Could not have summarized it any better. It should be obvious that Agard is not your run in the mill politician. She has done something many before her have failed to do and that is to pursue a principle. Her first objective is for the Court to rule on the decision to expel her, if this goes in her favour she will likely take it to the next step.Those of us who yearn for a overhaul of the twiddle d and dum setup will not hesitate to support what she is doing. This is not about Agard at all. This is about attempting to hold a key stakeholder accountable in our governance process.

Maria Agard is (was) a member of the Barbados Labour Party. She can’t get along with the executive of her constituency office and after continual non co-operation, she is kicked out of the party. She sues the President and the secretary, claiming that her right to natural justice was breached.
THE COURT HAS NO JURISDICTION in any of the above matters and that would be my argument as defense attorney. If I was the presiding judge, that would be my ruling. CASE DISMISSED. And that’s probably why I am not a presiding judge.

It’s such a shame that people worldwide have become so contaminated by political corruption, that they actually believe that there is nothing else and have absolutely no hope that there is an uncorrupted politician alive or one that could ever be born.. I rather look at there being an exception rather than the rule.
That’s the reason I told Alvin he is wasting his energy if he thinks I will read his long winded politically contaminated rubbish, it does have a cancer spreading-like effect, particularly when delivered by yardfowls who are undiluted, polluted hypocrites.

@Well,Well…not to be drawn into a web with you but I would want to make the simple point: many politicians at heart are honest people. But politics is not a game where honesty and integrity can ever remain unscathed…if you expect to be successfully.
You will be forced to renege on promises (Bush Sn and his tax pledge) or practically change course (Obama and Guantanamo Bay) in order to do the right thing for your constituents; or conversely you follow the dictates of your party or interest group and complete actions that satisfy a certain agenda (gun control, for example).
Thus, the honesty and principle is often all about staying the course of your decision – good, bad, right or wrong.
So yes I believe there is no such thing as a truly principled politician these days…like there are no more unicorns or dinosaurs either.
As I said before if Dr. Agard has effectuated all of a sudden some principled view in her political life after these many years under the direction and guile of Ms Mottley then I wish her well.
But, just looks like a power struggle to me…a very normal political event.
Incidentally, too believe in miracles. Singular events that change the course of life’s regular biological or scientific rhythms.
It seems that you and others perceive that Dr. Agard’s current apparent steadfastness is such an epiphany. To that on this day, I say: Hallelujah!

Or, to expand on your analysis, some politicians do not want to be intellectually capable of being anything but corrupt, but that is a choice as shown by DBLP’s useless yardfowls and their incessant support of their masters most corrupt actions and belief that they have over the last 50 years become invincible because no proof ties them to corruption, therefore they have escaped punishment.
Re: the Agard affair, I have not formed an opinion yet because there seems to be layers of underlying nastiness in play, it’s never cut and dried with those involved, but it does come out in the wash.
As with your belief in miracles as well, we know, it only takes one singular event to change the course of any man made rhythms.

Just two glaring examples.
Give me the powerful examples of the politicians who are all about their constituents – barring Lashley – and who have continued to make their presence felt meaningfully against the tide?

BUT let me rephrase that indictment: politicians are Incapable of leading in the interest of the average, ‘poor’ person that they are elected to serve.

Re Agard and this Mia thing in the context of a Mia orchestrated, judge supported, adjournment.

During which time, Agard’s objective which is embarrassment AND NOT REINSTATEMENT, becomes diluted in the court of public opinion and not even Legion, as stoic a support as she is of the DLP will be interested. As is the case with COW and his slaves with one shirt on their backs or Lady Hoagie putting her garbage on the counter of the black woman in Speightstown
IV. Mia had a glitch in her normal studied actions which were inflamed by Dr. Jerome and his crew in their excitement for the seat. No one had to do anything for that seat and as they are doing not, they could proceed apace with the campaigning that Dr. Jerome is and was doing all along to oust Dr. Agard.
V. Unless some Act of GOD or another challenger arises in her party, or anothe political party comes to the fore, or another of her indiscretions comes to the fore all Ms. Mottley has to do is to sit and wait.
What she has done for those observing is to show how cravatious she is, EVEN AS LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION!!
But that is a trait of all politicians, BEING CRAVATIOUS, and wanting to drive round in MP1 or whatever the number of the PM’s car.

Nothing surprising here ,Most lawyers use TIME as a strategy it is good tool of last resort short term but it can bite the defendant in the ass long term as the day of reckoning comes and the drum roll of instantaneous and persistent noise becomes a thunderous repetition of the past occurrence
Hopefully Mia would not resort to this strategy for a long term as the window for resolution closes and the most likely occurrence to happen would be a judgement against her party handed down a week before the election

Belated Season’s Greetings to you, yours, and every member of the BU family.Whenever time allows it, I try to focus my energy and attention on BU in an effort to contribute to public discussion and education. When time is not on my side, I am restricted to reading BU and making mental notes for future reference. For the past month, time has not been on my side.
Admittedly, I find our preoccupation with school ties to be both intriguing and perplexing. I attended 3 “schools” in Barbados – Wesley Hall Primary, Combermere, and the Cave Hill Campus of UWI. If a Barbadian were to ask me: “Where did you go to school?” the specific answer being sought, in my case, is Combermere. Believe it or not, I might get “cursed” if my reply is “Wesley Hall”, or “UWI”.
Since I went to Combermere, I am expected and entitled to hold as many degrees and professional designations as my heart desires. However, a past student of Parkinson or Princess Margaret, for example, is not supposed to be treated with such a high level of social respect and expectation. Having failed to attend one of the older grammar schools, such a student is viewed as being not naturally bright and is believed to have to study twice as hard as those students who passed the 11+ exam in order to achieve academic success. In some instances, the unfortunate student might be accused of “buying” the degree.
These intriguing and self-defeating attitudes only surface when Barbadians are desperately searching for a reason to put down, or scramble over, one another. Considerations about the school tie generally result in the favoured person landing a local job, reserved space, presentation, permit, or contract, all valued in local currency.
However, local school links are never, or rarely, considered when it comes to dishing out multi-million dollar contracts, or when the opportunity for bribery, kickbacks, and a profitable betrayal of the public trust presents itself. In these cases, a crooked personality is all that is required.
Where did the principals of VECO go to school? How about Clair Cowan? How educated are the Del Mastros? Bearing the CLICO multi-million dollar heist in mind, where did Leroy Parris go to school? How far did he reach?
As you can see, I am still alive and kicking. Thanks for asking, by the way.
Hopefully, Grenville (of the new party pronouncement fame) is also doing well and is prepared and ready to tackle some of the major socio-economic and political issues that are waiting to confront and confound Barbados in 2016. -

Commenting subject to correction but was it not Dr Walcott who accused Ms Mottley of fiddling with the party’s funds? If it were so; then politics does make as they say strange bedfellows. -
As Walter articulated, those social mis-behaviors have brought the island to it’s knees. When one man, Harris can hold a whole island to ransom by bribing, blackmailing politicians, public officials and island professionals with the help of DBLP politicians and their esteemed corrupt but otherwise uneducated friends, because everyone was so focused on and distracted by some old school tie. The ties that now bind them have nothing to do with school but everything to do with corruption.
The supreme court has been transformed into a whorehouse by Harris and his helpers, David Simmons, the DPP Charles Leacock, et al. Parliament is filled with pimps who have to keep quiet and bend to Harris’ will, it’s been said for some time that he advises Mia, wonder what he has on her in the form of blackmail material and what other roles will he play in 2018 general elections, I bet he can’t wait. I saw something at the airport some months ago and wondered about the connection, it’s now as plain as day. That is where corruption leads, all are caught in the web. De Word, my web is easier to extricate oneself from…lol
Former combermere high school student or not Harris is not that bright, he’s very devious, dirty, manipulative, corrupt and poisons anything he touches with that corruption, etc….one does not have to be an Einstein to be any of those things, Leroy Parris is living proof. Harris has had a lot of help over the years from the treasonous traitors on the island calling themselves politicians or he would not have succeeded in spreading such poison..
By the way, what are grown ass old people doing still asking each other “wuh school you went to”, that idiocy is part of the problem and is the main reason the people are presented with so many corrupt politicians in parliament, who have no class. Someone asked me that on a visit I made to the island and all I could do was stare at them like they were a cockroach under my microscope.
People who have gone to the best ivy league schools are not as obsessed with the high schools they went to and that’s all the schools on the island are, none of them are even schools for the gifted and exceptional, but for who can regurgitate in an acceptable form. Time to get over the high school mentality, it’s destructive when used by the ignorant, as it has been for decades since blacks were allowed access to education, to successfully denigrate each other.
