  1. The survey needs to go back to the drawing board.

  2. @islandgal

Your comment has more value if you make suggestions.

  3. Does the waste to energy only burn organic matter? If so how would that work with sbrc?

If it burns plastic and what not, what will happen to quality of air? Do we need such a plant? Where is the information about this plant?

  4. There is plenty information pros and cons on the internet. if one wants to do research .doesn’t need govt or any individual mouthpiece for guidance.

  5. @ac

The issue here is not the ability to do research but the obligation of an elected government to communicate to the people it’s strategy for deploying scare resources to ensure there is accord.

  6. Well for the past umpteenth years this issue has been tossed and turned and rool over and ac has seen and read and heard infiormation from govt sources as to the benefits of WTE however like always only when the time comesfor implementation draws nigh the battle lines are drawn . now ac suggestion to those who have miss the boat do you own research cause your voice might make a difference in the final outcome .

  7. No Barbados Govt is interested in the Environment, not the BLP nor the DLP – if they were GHNS would still be be open. One thing to be said for any B’dos Govt they will sign any international agreement about anything but rest assured that that it were it ends. no action no implementation nothing.

I support what the FCT does but this is a badly designed survey.
Q1 asks me which of four issues I would like FCT to focus on. I can only choose one. This is difficult to respond to, as I cannot select one as the key issue – they are all important. If I had been asked to rank the issues I could have had a stab at that. Instead, I look further down the list of questions.
Q2 asks if I can influence environmental decisions in Barbados. This confuses me as the answer for all of us is, of course, not really. There was me thinking that my support for the FCT was my way of being able to do this. Now they seem to be telling me I am on my own.
Looking further down the list I find that the questions are really about the proposal for the new waste to energy plant. I am left with the feeling that Q1 was actually irrelevant.
I am actually concerned about the WTE plant but the few questions I have been presented with are to blunt and don’t seem to allow me too blunt to be able to give the sorts of answers I want to.
    For example:
    – what emissions are expected to be produced?
    – what studies have been carried out to see how safe the plant will be
    – has an environmental impact study been carried out; what did it conclude; is it available to the public; if not why not
    – are we buying new or old technology
    – who is the contract going to be awarded to; what is their track record; what other plants do they operate
Try again, FCT, but in a way where we can tell you what we really think and what our real concerns are.

  10. @ St george dragon, you dicribe exactly how I felt reading the question are, you are right.

There is information online about Wte plants however AC, I want to know what the government want to do exactly, you know, a business plan, like any other project that I going to spend my money on. Is there a website about this project? At least with info about location cost, what and when we will burn.

Will we be selling useage of this plant to our sister islands or cruise ships?

Any waste to energy plants in the Caribbean?

How much will we spend in solar energy before we build a 6 figure waste, where is the plubic education program?

@ Tudor, just to back up what your saying, no one in government cares about the enviorment, just look they shut down the sugar industry with out an enviormental study. How silly can our leaders be.

  11. Looks like the late EWB has gotten his wish after all, he said “I hope the day will come when there isn’t a cane blade in Barbados”- we are almost there.
Rather ironic that the MOF, in his budget speech, gave notice that the GOVT would invest $500M into the sugar Industry, what a load of …..
