The Starship Song By Filthy Mouth Nicki Minaj Reported To Have Been Aired On The CBC

Anthony Nelson

It was reported to BU that the controversial Anthony ‘Admiral’ Nelson  played Starship, a popular song by Nicki Minaj at 8:22 AM on the morning of 07 September 2012. The BU family can listen to the lyrics and draw their conclusions. The CBC logs can be verified and hopefully appropriate action taken in the same way it dealt with the employee who allowed ‘heavy breathing’ to go out on air .

If Barbadians are serious about guarding public morals then the same way we reacted to a little boy who was goaded by an adult to gyrate behind a woman in a ‘back-shot’ position (A Picture Sums It Up!), so too we should be concerned by the playing of Starship on public radio.

  1. That is one of my favorite tunes, it is very catchy and upbeat. To tell the truth I could barely make out the bad words, and I never knew they were there until you put up this post David. So when local calypsonians sing about jukking and what they will do and where they will push in their women or like the men going to bottom bay it is ok? David that is a poor example you have chosen to show the moral decline of this island. We have to stop looking over the fence. To be honest I wish I could hear this song more often because it doesn’t make immoral. This song encourages me to dance and do my exercise.

  2. @David

read this in the Nation “IT MAY SOUND UNBELIEVABLE, but brand-name backpacks for school are being sold for as much as $350 and shoes for as high as $250.”

My children only got “brand name basketball shoes” because they were playing for their school teams.

But dud did guh to Bran Name Newniversity doh. Dah is weh duh did sharin out honers degrees.

The solution to winning the next election is clear. The party that gives the most money to constituents will win.

Seriously. Unless there is a collapse in the Barbados economy all the Nation building that the BU intelligentia preaches on this blog will not combat the Americanisation of Barbados.

  3. Apart from the use of vulgar words which I find aesthetically repugnant; can someone explain what is meant by the line “we’re higher than a motherf**ker?!!

Much of popular culture seems fashioned for the dull witted.

    • @Sargeant

In case you missed it the video posted has over 51 million views.

Here is what Wikipediaa paints about the lady who has a huge following.

She had a wardrobe malfunction on national TV recent and it went viral.

  4. I too have heard the song many times while outside of the country neverpaid much attention to the words just like the tune and hum along. this a society of hypocrtical wannabees do as i say not as do many have used such language better than pulling out the ak 47 and blowing a brains or two out so does one really believe that the used of such words would contribute to the moral decay and in what way may i ask “gdd blimma

    • @islandgal

This is the problem, the children understand the lyrics very well and the import of the other stuff which is not phrased using the lexicon of the youth.

  5. David I really don’t see how this song will corrupt the youth! If that is the case you should condemn some of Rhianna songs as well and don’t allow them over the air waves.

    • @islandgal

It is not the song on its own but the system which we adults manage that allows a sub culture to grow without even realizing it.

  6. Nicky who?
Seriously one can’t escape the many references to these artists whose musical shelf life is the human equivalent of the fruit fly.

The BU censorship Police strikes again. Are you opposed to the playing of the song on Bajan radio or opposed to the airing on CBC?

David since you raised the subject of objectionable lyrics have you watched any TV lately? How about the dalliances that take place on the Soaps? Do you see the attire that the females are “draped” in on these programs? You can find more bits of clothing on a nude beach, so let’s have a blog denouncing this type of programming.

The rule that most Broadcast Networks follow is that certain types of music or certain types of TV shows is allowable after Prime Time i.e. after 10.00 pm thus the only personally is the time of day that this music was played.

One last word, Merriam Webster has now included the “ F bomb” in its list of words, Joe Biden was overheard saying it to President Obama after the passing of the Health Care bill, much like Pierre Trudeau in Canada’s House of Commons during a response to an Opposition spokesman. When Trudeau was queried about it he replied that he said “fuddle duddle”.

    • @Sargeant

BU is against the citizenry surrendering to the hogwash we embrace as art. Do you recall when good men do nothing what happened?

  7. Bajans condemn our own Rihanna but cant raise a comment on Trini foul mouth weirdo Manaj.
Rihanna is a saint compared to certified lunatic Manaj. Admiral Nelson has no shame except when Gabby washing he in cuffs.

  8. @all

“Let him who is without sin cast the first stone” Jesus the Chrsit on who some of us wait.

With each “small step for mankind” on this road called progress, we get closer and closer to the absolute breakdown of values and rampant anarchy in Bim.

“De lizard crawl up she leg and disappear” Emile Straker and the Merrymen, circa 197?, “Bendwood” Dick the Mighty Sparrow are no less indicative of the slow irretractable steps towards this breakdown than thsoe very songs that those of my generation used to fondly wuk up to 15 to 20 years ago.

I give you the Bloodhound Gang, with satanist guitarist Lupus Thunder, with their pulsating rhythm of

The roof the roof the roof is on fire, The roof the roof the roof is on fire
The roof the roof the roof is on fire
We don’t need no water let the motherfucker burn, Burn motherfucker burn

And then there is the irrepressible “Do it in Da butt all night long” by E.U. the favourite of many Bulbadians, sorry barbadians.

For those of you who will quickly join the chant about how society is “getting so bad” and “the young people out of hand” i direct you to the most ancient of Books which we christians revere Genesis Ch. 6 verse 5 and 6 verse 5 “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Enter the Flood!!

So we all should see that this bacchanal is not “so new” after all and, to quote another “if we don’t change direction soon, we’ll end up where we’re going”.

  9. cussing din’t start wid todays youth . how about yesteryear generation and the stanpipe cussing and the licks flying wunna think children wasn;t around then, a lot bull sht if you ask me.

  10. Jesus H Chr*st I am F3cking appalled by this .. Where the f3ck have our standards gone, and why the f3ck is this Nelson guy still f3ckin’ working for the f3ckin’ Government and people of Ba’bados … The shite should be locked to f3ck up … motherf3cker

I am in full agreement with you David … What the f3ck.

  11. i like cussing it is one of the easiest ways to relieve stress without being violent god dam it would be great if instead of going bullistic people just told we other wher the f…ck to go. look at the millions of dollars the inept justice system would save the taxpayers wuh damm sound f..cking good to me.propose that barbados have a soap box placed right next to lord nelson statue where p eople can cuss out all the politicians and some sorry a..ss lawyers got a few in mind who i would publicly like to tell wher the f…k to go.

  12. I agree wid you ac, and by the way yah sound ticklish man … But fah people like you, rather than be using the word, you should just spen’ more time just doing it … HA HA HA

    • The core issue here is a country’s right to guard public morals i.e. we can’t have a free for all. Giving the foregoing should we accept base standards to go out unfettered over the public airwaves, in this case the CBC.

  13. @ Piece Uh De Rock Yeah Right | September 8, 2012 at 2:12 PM |

Good for you for balling out the blasted hypocrites.
But be careful with that lizard crawling up the teacher’s leg. That was a Sparrow hit copied by the local merry men. May be if the good old merry boys had sang “too many guns in de place so when the men kill de men all would be left would be de women for Sam Lord the thief to ravage and rape. “Look, ya ‘lickle’ tiefing boy. tek ya hand out ma tray.

  14. no david absolutely not fugetting the littlte tenderroonies / i used to be one and on my way to school i like to watch and listen to de ole people cuss out each other at the stanpipe about who fooop.g wid who man and all dat sweet talk and the best part was the old lady in them big bloomer who would kick she skirt in the air and say to kiss de dis and dat. dat used to be fun david de good ole days fuh real but now we pretending and yuh know what i never was influence enough to cuss in the presence or behind grown folks back because i was taught different rass..h..le!

    • We always make the mistake that social dynamics remain the same over time. Who would have thought Black West Indians jumping on Eastern Parkway in thongs and bubbies exposed. Next we will see them in nothing at all. No worries, it happened in the day.

  15. @ ac | September 8, 2012 at 6:09 PM |
“propose that barbados have a soap box placed right next to lord nelson statue where p eople can cuss out all the politicians and some sorry a..ss lawyers got a few in mind who i would publicly like to tell wher the f…k to go.”

No, No, No, No! Just can’t be that way.
Since we are so fond of copying things British (except governance and cleanliness in our physical surroundings) why not put out local Speaker’s Corner in our Queen’s Park. We can call it Jekyll’s Park when she goes even if name after Queen Vicki. Might bring back some life to that once relaxing and picturesque imitation of a Vicorian era of Capability Browne renown.

There you can get on your soap box and cuss OSA, Onions and the miller to thy kingdom come.
The corner would be dedicated to the memory of “ac,’ the consummate liar.

  16. Censorship is the suppression of speech or other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient as determined by a government, media outlet, or other controlling body. It can be done by governments and private organizations or by individuals who engage in self-censorship. It occurs in a variety of different contexts including speech, books, music, films and other arts, the press, radio, television, and the Internet for a variety of reasons including national security, to control obscenity, child pornography, and hate speech, to protect children, to promote or restrict political or religious views, to prevent slander and libel, and to protect intellectual property. It may or may not be legal. Many countries provide strong protections against censorship by law, but none of these protections are absolute and it is frequently necessary to balance conflicting rights in order to determine what can and cannot be censored.

    ac
i think i will ignore you on legal advice.

  18. WHY is local music banned on local Radio stations ??
There are so many songs I dont hear,
94.7 and its sister stations play more foreign music than anything else. There is a Reggae Night on 94.7 in addition to everyday playing of Jamaican music. 94.7 AND ITS SISTERS play old music from America. They play the same 20- songs over and over again.

    Somebody should be locked up

  19. Just Asking

Because NO radio station is prepared to pay the artists for the use of their material. They would rather pay boring as ass know-it-all dejays who actually believe that they are celebrities and have a following, than to honor copyrights (Is the union called MEGOB ???)

  20. can you say “mdma” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDMA
it is now in barbados.makes you feel like you own the world and makes women
get extremely horny!powder form/a sprinkle the amount of a dime in a rum and coke and your lady going to go crazy for 4 hours.
that is what they mean by they are higher than a motherflumper.
    it is “ecstasy” music..
we have only just begun with cosmetic drugs.here in barbados.
good for the tourist girl hustlers.if they give them some they are in for sure guaranteed,
thing is is it against the law in barbados????????????????? ,or is it so new there is no law.??????????????????????????
it can also stop your heart if taken in large doses.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Interesting to hear a news report this morning on Vob that 7% and 22% of a primary and secondary school children in a recent survey admitted to having engaged in sexual intercourse.

  22. @Harry

now I understand. The lyrics of many of these songs make sense if one assumes that the songs are promoting or at least acknowledging the use of psychotropic drugs.

  23. i was trying to put a you tube video on how in the UK ans USA they are
selling packaged drugs at gas stations some labeled as kitkat candy bars, frizzies, etc
and a host of other candy names .the ingredients are so new that they
    are not yet illegal.
but get you high as hell.i seen a documentary on it recently.
i will try to find it.

  24. BAFBFP–
you could be right and if what you say is true
    How sad !
    ———————————-
MEGOB as far as I know is not an enttity
WHAT are we doing to this country Barbados?

I would like to suggest that white people in Barbados come to the fore and stop hiding in the background. White people need to get openly involved in running Barbados . White people BUILD –Black people DESTROY,

We need White and we need White Now !
    DONT WE NEED WHITE ?

    JUST ASKING !

  25. “The roof the roof the roof is on fire, The roof the roof the roof is on fire
The roof the roof the roof is on fire
We don’t need no water let the motherfcuker burn, Burn motherfcuker burn”

I remember that song well when I was a teen and would sing along BUT that did not corrupt me. Morals start at home if parents do not have any or very little how can anyone expect their offspring to have any?

    • @islandgal

Was that song played on radio?

Do you agree that parental guidance was a stronger in the days of village life?

  26. David dahling, I never grew up in a village style setting BUT it doesn’t matter where you were brought up. That song was played at almost every party and every home I hung out at. We listened to Bill Cosby with his foul mouth jokes and narration. Some people I met were into swinging and smoking marijuana. Some of these same people are now BIG Christians and pretending dem neva know bout dat kinda life. Many were fooping round like many today. Some adults do not know what is right from wrong and are raising children. A child learn what he or she sees adults doing. That song by Nicki Minaj has a radio version so even if they have played the radio version you and I know the kids will learn the real version from their friends and family. Remember Lord Kitch’s “My pussin”? Sparrow’s Jean and Dinah? Big Big Bamboo some of these songs were banned on the radio BUT we knew all the words when we were children.

    • @islandgal

Your social circle did not reflect mainstream. The missing factor here is public airwaves. As a society we have a responsibility to guard public morals and decency. In fact it is written into our laws.

    • @ac

Why do you think that if you view a public channel like PBS you would not see an x-rated picture but a cable which you pay for you can select what you want to see?

You need to separate the argument of public morality.

  27. for some ungodly reason people are determined to make the government to do what we as parents should be do that is being role models setting and putting standards in place that would ensure our children would lead and become outstanding and productive citizens . the government’s role is to govern not to be busy bodies and meddlesome in peoples personnal live. have we become so far gone that the same people we elect whose immortals would put the average citizens morality to shame worthy of be an authoritarian on what is moral to guard our young ones from what is right or wrong and on what moral grounds why do we continue to fool ourselves into a false sense of reasoning that the govt is the best conductor of morals. just look around the world and see how government has failed the people and now one should believe that on morality they would be the divine saviour ‘Parents a wise person said and it still holds true “raise up a child in the way it should go and when she /he is old it would not depart from it” never a mention of govt involvement. Specifically a deep and profound message to “PARENTS” and not to govt. also i would add “raise up a child in the way it should go not when it is grown:

    • We are all guardians of the public space, government included. We live in pluralistic societies however when it comes to the public space we have to decide what kind of country we want to build. BU suggest we don’t want a little USA or UK where children now feel compelled to shot up the place when they are upset. Then again the USA protects the right of citizens to carry arms, it is in the damn constitution.

  28. what are you talking about david there documentaries which are shown on PBS which deals with topics from pornography to cannibalism. What are you talking about PBS is an organisation within the fourth estate which breathes and lives by “FREEDOM OF THE PRESS” a guaranteed right under the first ammendment. really i have seen those shows and some are gruesome to say the least, Sorry not all sesame street and Barneyas you would like to believe.

  29. her music is rave music where “ecstasy” ..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDMAis used by all attending and
sometimes they can be thousands.it is called the love drug.
makes you horny and the world looks much different .everything is wonderful when you take it.
    it is in barbados now.
i would still like to find out if it is illegal in barbados as it sells for 120 a gram.
i know for a fact many teenagers and people in their 20 are using it.
so if it is legal /hell let me get some of that money.lol

u are a really immature person if u think that that song is there to make u dance. u are not meant to clearly hear the F word,,but ur subconscious will pick it up..and the word carries with it desire to show the world, the same rebellious. ‘doan carerish’ attitude that ur very statement has depicted. so the song has done it’s job.. u seriously need to get in touch with ur soul

  31. Smooth Chocolate….I forgot you can see horns and the devil in photos.
“Star ships are meant to fly Hands up and touch the sky”
I like the beat and the melody I will make up my words and I don’t give a rats behind how you feel.

  32. Hants | September 8, 2012 at 9:33 AM |
    @David

read this in the Nation “IT MAY SOUND UNBELIEVABLE, but brand-name backpacks for school are being sold for as much as $350 and shoes for as high as $250.”
    ******************************************************************************
No wonder that a letter in one of the newspapers within the last two weeks was from a man who reported that a school boy knocked on his door offering his backside for money to buy brand name gear?

  33. Just Asking

Don’ get too confused hear … There ain’ all dah much difference between White and Black Bajans with influence hear. They are both in the game to extract what ever there is that is commercially viable in this land, whether it be people to serve and consume or land to sell. This White people building is a myth, needless to say that I care little for these capital intensive Gold Coast construction projects that cater more to the subservience of the locals than the true developing of the productive capability of the species. Ja ja …!

  34. thing is the some of so called white bajans are first generation children of rich
foreigners that buy their way in to barbados.usually English pretending to be bajan.what their daddy saw was a chance to build a monopoly in Barbados.
carry bajan id cards.but bajans are not their interest it is the land and other drug and money laundering schemes.
my family was here as white slaves since 1627 you will find the new bajan whites speaking with English accents and other accents.
they don’t give a flying shit about barbados as they can retreat at any time where they came from but you as a bajan can not.you understand.?????

  35. is it not you Negroes whom created these words and this kind of music in America????????????????
well is wunna that done it.white man build up negro break down.

  36. I don’t drop a leave a response, but after reading a few of the remarks on this page The Starship Song By Filthy Mouth Nicki Minaj Reported To Have Been Aired On The CBC | Barbados Underground. I actually do have a couple of questions for you if it’s okay.
