Submitted by People’s Democratic Congress (PDC)

This is the first instalment in a series of articles to be presented in this space and in this manner over the course of time by the People’s Democratic Congress (PDC). And the party is happy to let all fellow commenters and visitors to BU know that, with this truly historic moment unfolding right before their eyes, how pleased it is that this space – which has been granted by David/BU to the PDC to better highlight its articles, has received the blessings of the members of the party itself.

So, barring some unforeseen event that goes beyond our control, every Thursday on this BU blog, many fellow commenters and visitors alike can look forward to various articles on many issues and concerns and perspectives affecting or related to the broad masses and middle classes of people, or some sub-national group of individuals, or any individual in this country.

Though the PDC is not new to this blogsite, having been posting on here for well over two years, it feels like the PDC has really and truly entered a new phase in its communications development, with the understanding being that, in politics, as in almost every sphere of life, effective communications between communicants is one very important aspect of long term developmental success.

So, whereas it is natural for commenters and visitors alike to expect that the PDC will continue to convey/supply politically oriented messages/information to the BU family, it will not be uncommon to see during its life on here – and as part of its substantial desire to broaden its political social focus and base – the party submitting for publication socially oriented articles, ones dealing primarily with so-called economics, finance, legal issues, the youth, the elderly, the disabled, history, health issues, cultural happenings, entertainment, sports, etc, whether they are based on events taking place sub/nationally, regionally or internationally.

Too, as like before with our many many previous posts on this blog site, we will continue to use various approaches, styles and tones of writing, comprehension and of expressing the party’s views: academic, intellectual, scientific, analytic, descriptive, detailed, personal, formal, didactic, pugnacious, critical, condemnatory, bitter, emphatic, sympathetic, etc, whenever such is called for.

Also, as has been shown in many previous posts on here – we in the PDC will try to be always as accurate, fair and truthful as possible in whatever views and analyses we put across in these articles.

We will, of course, be treading very carefully from the point of view, that we will not want to defame anyone and we don’t expect any one to do the same. We will, nevertheless, continue as we have long done – in principle, to support the rights of individuals commenters/bloggers to free but responsible expression/speech on this or any blog.

That notwithstanding, one of our major aims will be – for all intents and purposes – to constantly use this space designated to us to help raise the standard of discussion and commentary on the blog whatever issues or matters pointed out by any persons. Hence, we will continue to look forward to as many informed enlightened, sometimes  robust debate between ourselves and many other commenters, and look forward too to the same thing taking place among many others themselves on the topics of the day, or on topics of historical significance, etc., what ever the topics that we or they so wittingly or unwittingly seek to raise or do in fact raise. We must state too there will also be times when we will be seeking out sometimes exhilarating, some times light discussions and even the exchange of banter between ourselves and various people on this blogsite.

Where personal adhomenim attacks, character assassinations on this BU blog are concerned, we would like to see – in the interest of the further growth and development of Barbados based blogging – that such are entirely minimised – which though is unlikely at this stage given the lack of regulation of this bloggscape.

However, we would wish  that fellow commenters still have the knowledge that it will continue to be fair game “in this place” as usual, where such negativity is concerned, and that we will we expect to give some lashes and share some as well.

Too, though, seeing that we in the PDC will be about promoting the greatest discussion possible among persons, esp. in Barbados, it can only reasonably be deduced that it would be good for us to develop and submit PDC videos, to submit videos of a news and current affairs focus, or other important documentary videos of a national regional and international profile, so that many people will be so interactive on so many more things. We therefore intend to fill a little void on here whereby there is a lack of imageries and liveliness. Our submitting the particular contributions on Thursdays on BU must be seen then too as a means to an end.

In the latter  regard, we hope to send or direct using as many means as possible a great many more people to this blog, and to view our important posts concerning the core ideologies, philosophies, policies and positions of our party. For as alluded to earlier, in politics, effective political communications between communicants is very important to long term political success.

While we are very pleased that David/BU have given us this space, it will not mean that we will substantially reduce our contributions to this blog on whatever issues. NOT AT ALL!!

For, we in the PDC have got so much to tell so many commenters and visitors to BU, concerning our preparations for the Next Election which involves our quest to get more candidates in the various constituencies, our quest to get greater financing for our party, to get our own head quarters, among other things, that it will be impossible for us to greatly lessen our contributions. At this time we take the opportunity to ask any one reading this information to look at the possibility of assisting us in those regards and assisting us in many other possible regards. For, it is said in the Good Book that the Lord seeks to help those who seek to help themselves!!

So, with that beseechment, we close this historic statement by expressing the hope, that by having this space, and that by starting these articles in such an altruistic fashion, it will likely help lead to the strengthening of bonds and relationships between the BU family and the PDC and the broad masses and middle classes of people of this country, and the PDC, and will help lead to the deepening of understanding and wisdom among each and every one of us here and throughout the world.

Thank You.

We oblige!!!

  1. Some will question why we have promoted a space for the PDC voice. BU’s position is simple, the views of the two established parties dominate, the PEP is given visibility in the traditional media probably because of David Commissiong’s profile, why not the PDC? Let all views contend and the pollination which may occur can only be to the benefit of all.

BU reserve the right as always to use our best judgements as far as comments go.

Welcome, PDC and congratulations on your generosity, David. As is sometimes said elsewhere, “that was mighty white of you”. The crucible of reason, and not bigotry, will determine the value of any commentary provided.

@PDC, I loved your neologism “beseechment”, but what’s wrong with “beseeching”?

  3. @ PDC

Who knows where a twisting road may take you but take it if you must; for no adventure is so sweet as that which brings unexpected rewards. For though obstacles are sometimes great, press on! for if what you feel is in your heart…success will “always” be yours…good luck, your fortune is in your hands.

  4. The above comment July 22, 3;25 is from Yardbroom.

  5. @PDC,

While the one issue expressed in your positions in the past, of the removal of taxation, which I cannot agree with as such is an impossibility, really, I truly wish you well.

From a socio-political standpoint, more political parties mean more views expressed in a more structured and wider format and more options at voting time, thus such is a good thing.

It means that both parties have some sock-pulling to do, which is a good thing too.

While a third or fourth party has the work cut out in gaining popular support, there is such a thing as a pressure group as well, which will assist in bringing change and efficiency to the political process and decisions.

Therefore, you have a valid role to play and it is admirable that you are doing so with conviction.

Coupled with this, many voters are disenchanted with the wordplay and lipserive from both main parties, thus you can only gain from fallout.

  6. Make valuable and meaningful contribution like you always have but keep them as clear and concise as you can lest disinterest towards reading the long winded makes your contribution lest effective. Good luck and do not become another bigot waiting to feed from the treasury’s drought

    Your point is?

  10. Welcome PDC

However you have started on the wrong foot if you plan to quote the bible.
Nowhere does it say “in the Good Book that the Lord seeks to help those who seek to help themselves!!”

…if you wish to avoid the wrought of GP and Zoe it may be best to stick to things that you actually know about.

    ……it is a nice sounding quote though….

  11. ” help those who seek to help themselves”

Some would suggest (although I would not), that some elected may have taken this too literally in the recent past…

  13. @CCC

Do you understand a political group can be a pressure group as well read Eric Fly?

As far as I know, the PDC has only two members.
    …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Carson. I must say you are becoming a real political humbug. It seems tha you are against democracy. Even if two members are in the PDC, who cares. At least these two are putting more issues to the table at the moment since our Prime Minister went on leave.

PDC, welcome, and we look forward to your ideas even if some of the ideas might not be beneficial to the Barbadian electorate. At least we are hearing from you.

  15. I hope that the PDC becomes a party truly capable of effecting change. The expressed opinions of its leader “Mark” in B’town gives me cause to doubt the future success of the PDC.

  16. Mark Adamson I say this with no disrespect.

But ……….. If you wanted persons to take you serious, I think that you should be selling more than socks BY NOW!!!!!!

I am not saying this with any disrespect but I think that by now after being in this ‘race’ for a while. I thought that you would have emulated into a booming business man who would have given the masses a sense of hope.

Furthermore, I think that your suggestions are fool hardy, and I will be one who will boldly ask you to your face if you are MAD! MOST OF YOUR SUGGESTIONS are nonsensical and will cause total chaos in this already chaotic society!

As a young person I have to ask this question ARE YOU SERIOUS?

  17. DAVID

You really believe that Eric Fly made a difference?

Eric Fly was political pond fly.

    Where is he now?

  18. True greatness comes from keeping the door open to all in their various hues; when they truly seek to be part of the whole. Am I to say you are too lowly to speak; am I to say your lineage is not pure; am I to say you have come unshod.

No! I listen and if you do not find favour…I will move on. But never let it be said that I thought one of our own was too “lowly”…that is no indictment.

  19. Anonymous seems to think that that chances of this PDC making its mark will be impossible. Did St.Clair Howell or St .Clair Rudder make any sense in their contributions? I keep an open mind and that is my democratic right! Stop your belly aching and be supportive. You know as well as I do that there is no grattitude in politics! By the way Where ever Eric Fly is now is where he was destained to be.He had his time and many were made aware of the state of things in the country as a result of him.Usually I find you very level in your deliveries but the mind boggles….Maybe you should be hoodwinked so you could see better! Love still.

  20. Raymond
How do you know which anonymous you are speaking to?
PDC is not a new political party. The party was around during the last election. I am glad that David gave them the same respect as the other party writers by allowing them to publish their thoughts. PDC you can now write those long articles that would not be considered a comment.
They have yet not explained how they will run this economy without collecting taxes. Until that is done I cannot take them seriously.

  21. @Fair Play: “They have yet not explained how they will run this economy without collecting taxes. Until that is done I cannot take them seriously.

    I agree.

PDC, you now have a media outlet.

Please (***please***) show us you can be a serious option as a viable third political party here in Bim. You sometimes don’t need to win a majority of seats to influence policy; but you need to win some…

@BU.David — have the BB.PEP been similarly engaged?

  23. @Flavour of the Month… You could at least try to be less obvious.

For the record, more than a few follow the RSS comments feed (URL: http://bajan.wordpress.com/comments/feed/ ) where we can see that you’ve just made four comments across three blogs.

We see what you’re up to.

If you’re going to try to trick us all, at least please try to understand what you’re doing….

  24. @Chris the PEP runs its own blog and publishes in the newspaper weekly.

  25. @BU.David: “…the PEP runs its own blog and publishes in the newspaper weekly

    Interesting…

And yet I don’t seem to be able to find PEP’s blog linked here on BU.

    Obviously I missed it….

  26. @Chris
Many of the blog links on BU were updated based on requests, now that you have highlighted this matter PEP will be updated.

  27. @BU.David…

What I hope is that Machiavelli is laughing in his grave over this…

While we may fight amongst ourselves…

This is simply empowers us to fight against others who try to take advantage of us….

  28. Seems that some would write off alternate possibilities without thought.

I fully agree, that we only assess potentials on the basis of merit and policies.

That is why I also addressed the PDC ‘no taxation’ issue early.

Remember, only a few MP seats can be considered ‘safe’…to an extent.

These are the PM’s, the Opposition Leader’s, the former PM’s and to a certain extent only, the seat that used to be Sir Henry’s, now being vacated by Dr.Duguid, lastly and possibly the seat that used to be JMGM Adams, I believe now held by Cynthia Forde.

Therefore, every seat is a potential political battlefield. Some of those elected could not gain a seat in other constituencies. Their seat was assured merely by the strength in constituency.

Remember too, that a virtual unknown and someone who would probably also be laughed at if he tried today, Edgar Bourne, ousted Bree St.John from the Oistins seat.

Shocking, but true, verification that times and circumstances can do wonders, in political life.

    Never discount the ‘impossible’.

On what basis are you offering the PDC a weekly spot on BU?

    Not because of their popularity.

Wikepedia, tells me that in the last election the PDC received the grand total of 28 votes with the DLP and BLP getting 70,000 and 61,000 respectively.

Certainly not because of their policies. This, after all, is the party which has stated that if elected it will abolish taxes in Barbados. Putting it mildly, not many would believe that was a credible position.

If you want to give someone a weekly place, why not do us all a favour and choose someone who is intelligent and can help to move Barbados forward.

I would rather see someone like Avinash Persaud being asked to contribute…… or would he tell us things we don’t want to hear, like you can’t run a country if you don’t have taxes?

  31. @St.George’s Dragon

Let us see what the PDC have to say away from the clutter of comments. BU has always been partial to the underdog view.

  32. I understand that PDC is a fringe political party and now that David has provided them with their own soapbox I hope that the other threads will be free from their continuous rants about abolishing taxes, exchange rates etc.

To Crusoe’s point about Edgar Bourne, the biggest political upset in Barbados electoral history occurred when Anderson “Peanuts” Morrison defeated “Bree” St. John in the 1971 General Election.

I don’t know if you already knew the answer, but in case you didn’t, he is now blind and resides in the Geriatric Hospital.

This is a painful end to a man who was as once popular in his own right as any Barbadian politician in the early 70’s.

I knew he married a young girl(think she was Guyanese). Does anyone know what became of her (and the marriage)?

  36. Re Eric Sealy…

Eric Sealy did indeed contribute much to political debate and discussion. It is forthright people like him that take a country forward, even if snapping behind the politicians and act of ‘guards’ in a demoicracy.

I suggest (as I know that Government people read this), that he should receive an award to mark his years of activism.

Whether Silver Star of Merit or Crown of Merit, is up to those with authority, but there are those who have done less that have been awarded.

He deserves this, unless he already has been recognised?

However, I want to put forward ROK for he seems to be one of the few who is not afraid to identify himself.

  39. The Editorial in today’s Barbados Advocate ( July 26, 2010) is compulsory reading for persons who are following us in our campaign to ABOLISH TAXATION in Barbados.

Entilted: TAXATION A SOURCE OF CONTENTION (our capitals), this editorial is, in our judgement, perhaps one of the very rare times when any segment of the Fourth Estate in Barbados ever deals with this very evil wicked demonic system.

For much too long there has been this deep-seated, deliberate political conspiracy silence surrounding esp. many people within the Barbadian media and the so-Barbadian intelligentsia, who, LONG KNOWING FULL WELL THAT TAXATION is wrong, evil, anti-progressive, and that it is TOTALLY unproductive and unrational and anti-national development, have been prepared though to TURN A BLIND EYE to the very disastrous and catastrophic effects TAXATION has been having on the poor and marginal middle classes in this country, primarily because of these said media and intelligent people thinking myopically about what is in their best interests (self), and because of their having this false fear of the government.

But, this Editorial could NOT have been more timely, as that we in the PDC will be releasing some more information very soon on why the Barbadian masses and middle classes must help a future PDC Government ABOLISH TAXATION.

But, back to some aspects of this Editorial.

Even though it is a tad conservative in its essence, it is a near bold one for it a little refreshingly sheds light on this TAXATION SYSTEM!!

Well, even though it fails to address the fundamental material financial problems of this anti-masses anti-middle classes anti-production anti-national development TAXATION SYSTEM in Barbados, it acknowledges that some people already see this TAXATION system as evil.

Even though the author/s of it failed to explain an entire falsehood lie – that it is the only feasible way to ensure that individuals support the provision of social services – the said author/s of this Editorial rightly stated further down in it that some jurisdictions have the right NOT TO TAX.

And even though the author/s of it did engage in another dangerous falsehood lie, that most countries use this facility (????) to engage in some form of wealth re-distribution, they still admit that TAXATION is partly OPPRESSIVE.

Truth, though, is that this Editorial piece seemed to have been spurred by the situation whereby superstar athlete Usain Bolt has decided NOT to compete ( at least for the time being!!) in the United Kingdom “because of the tax rules applicable to him ( properly read as some evil ways of the government there outrightly wickedly stealing from him ) as a non-resident athlete making an appearance there. Bolt will be taxed on his appearance fee ( properly read as wickedly stolen from ) as well as on a portion of his world wide income earned from endorsements and sponsorship.”

But, it is a pity that it took this Usain Bolt TAX experience, to induce the Barbados Advocate to pronounce on the subject of TAXATION, even though right here in Barbados the PDC has long been helping many Barbadians to understand the intellectual political diabolicals and material and financial destructs associated with TAXATION.

Finally, for now, even though the writer/s of this Editorial in the Barbados Advocate seems/seem ambivalent about TAXATION, it must be a little commended by the PDC for having at least a little bravado in pointing some readers and many other persons in Barbados to the understanding that the time has truly come for peoples every where – Black, white, brown, yellow, males, females, young, the old, masses, middle classes, religious, non-religious, etc, to help free themselves from this scourge of government imposed TAXATION – this most evil most monstrous form of bondage – which has NO place in any modern day civilization.

    PDC

  40. Sorry – second line, last paragraph – the word should have been “they”, NOT “it”.

  41. @PDC
What does Usian Bolt protesting the tax laws in the united kingdom to do with abolishing taxes. Usian bolt does pay taxes in Jamaica .Doesn’t he. I think you are far out of left field in using his set of circumstances as an example.

  42. ac,

We mentioned it because it seemed to have been the basis of the said Barbados Advocate’s Editorial.

For us to have dealt with the Editorial but to have made no reference whatsoever in our above post to the Editorial’s coverage of this particular Usain Bolt Tax experience in England would not have been good journalism.
