The recommended amount is five gallons per person per day for at least five days. Water must be stored in clean, covered containers

    +++++++++++++
That is like rubbing salt into the wound, there are still parts of the island without water from the BWA as we speak.

  4. @ Wily Coyote August 26, 2019 6:34 AM

    Wily,

The Honorable Senator Casswell has called for the nationalization of energy supplies. It would end up like the rotten Supreme Court or the shit on the south coast. At the latest under a DLP government there would be no more fuel and no more maintenance. Instead, the local managers would clap their hands, dance and sing and scream for a foreign massa. Just as they have always done after Barrow, a kind of Burnham for Barbados, declared independence in his arrogance. The inhabitants of Martinique, on the other hand, were clever enough to stay with France instead of intoxicating themselves with Barrow’s nationalist cocaine.

I’d like to remind everyone that the BLP didn’t want independence. So it’s time for the nationalist Morris of the DLP and for the DLP in general to apologize to the Barbadian people for 1966.

You just wishing for something bad to happen! If anything happen it still aint going erase May 28th 2018 even if it makes you feel better or a little justified.

Mr Blognaster, I checked the storm details on the Weather Channel website…and I presume its says basically the same thing as the Martinque radar! … I must further presume that the Bdos Government has facilities via its CERO and CEDEMA connections to access data from the hurricane centers of the US (or French govts vis Martinque/Guadeloupe) so I am less concerned that they have to rejig their priorities .

I will further, further assume that they ENSURE that those connections, communications and interfaces are always working properly particularly in the absence of their own properly working radar .

Thus, what is the need for this small island to have its OWN radar detailing the SAME activities of storm systems which must be (and are) monitored CLOSELY by other nations with considerably more funds to spend …can’t we piggyback legitimately on that monitoring process…as we have done successfully before!

What a hilarious, before the storm, lightening of anxiety! You are seriously flying an independence balloon in storm high winds to suggest what!….that we would have our momma bear to hold us and give much needed support!

    Wow…apologize for 1966!

  8. @ de pedantic Dribbler August 26, 2019 10:01 AM

So your saying there is NO NEED for Foreign Currency as its readily available elsewhere. Sounds to me like your running for election to the Barbados group known as POLITICAL ELITE, the continued existence of such moronic attitudes from Bajans no longer amaze me.

After three official declarations of bankruptcy and one unofficial one in 2013 (CS credit) you should be a little more reasonable.

Let’s say the BLP government succeeds in reducing debt to 60 percent and boosting the economy. At some point, the naïve, whipped-up masses, in their intoxication, will once again elect the DLP to the government. And then everything will start all over again, like 2008 to 2018.

It may be normal for you that the DLP president has a picture of a suspected criminal hanging behind her desk. That’s exactly why I want the Honorable Attorney General to declare the DLP a criminal organization after Donville’s conviction. Then they will no longer be able to run in the elections.

How is the traffic load dealing with the shutdown in your neck of the wood ? The reports seem to indicate grid locks at many cross roads and roundabouts.

@ Tron, I recognize yours was political humor and not to be really taken seriously re the independence crack… And your 10:54 simply affirms additional political humor…

How in heavens’ name do we know what another DLP regime will do!!! And I don’t know what pics hang on whose walls NOR can I fathom how the alleged criminal activities of one man even if convicted could make an entire organization criminal!

SMH…you love to mek sport … Let’s not get into political games of who is worst than whom…that’s a fool’s errand !

And Mr Cayote, you MUST be joking (tho in ur case it’s not as evident) … to equate a required staple of economic life in Bim like foreign currency to that of a weather radar, which is one of SEVERAL in the region…are you fah real!

    Doubly SMH.

The pros would could call that an absurd fallacy … in simple terms it’s hogwash!

I can’t argue a fallacy and I certainly am not going to swirl hogwash with you just before a storm…I have to go and batten down my pigs…

    I gone!

  14. @Vincent

There is gridlock because people are leaving work from 10 to go home before 12PM. There are the usual last minutes people who despite info shared from Saturday and yesterday preferred to hit the supermarkets today. They deserve to be stuck in gridlock.

  15. Hi David:

When I started Solutions Barbados in 2015, I promised Roy Morris (then editor at the Nation) that I would always provide him with a response. I told him that one sentence that he would never hear from me was “No comment.” I have treated all media, including yourself, in a similar manner.

The PM is responsible during times like these, and is doing an impressive job at mobilizing resources to reduce the risk of damage, and informing the nation. So well done on that front. However, for completion …

My concern is that she is well aware that the primary shelter for families is their houses. Under PM Sandiford, we finally had a building code to inform homeowners how to build properly. It was, perhaps, the best building code on this planet – and that is no exaggeration.

To his shame, PM Arthur refused to enforce it or encourage its use, resulting in thousands of woefully substandard houses being built during his 14 year term – that is his real legacy. PM Stuart continued this legacy – actually, he was worse.

Even after claiming to be flabbergasted at the fragility of houses in Barbados after the damage done by Tropical Storm Tomas, not only did he not encourage the use of our excellent building code, he abolished it. Thus, Barbados (in one of the most hazard prone regions on this planet) became the only nation on Earth to offer no structural building guidance whatsoever to its residents.

PM Mottley inherited this mess, and is continuing the tragic legacy of PM Stuart. But just like how PM Stuart seemed determined to ‘out-worse’ PM Arther, PM Mottley is ‘out-worsing’ PM Stuart. She claimed to have lived through the devastation of hurricane Gilbert in Jamaica, she is aware of the state of our building code, the damage caused by Tomas, and the vulnerability of Barbadian houses. She is the Minister responsible for the Building Code, and yet, she has only embraced and furthered PM Arthur’s and Stuart’s damaging legacy.

With that information, I leave it for you to grade her performance.

  16. Traffic a bit heavier around gas stations!!

    Otherwise, no big deal.

  17. Looks like they are forecasting 6 inches of rain and above!!!

If you live below the cliff you got a choice to make.

Stay and brave it out or don’t let nightfall catch you down there!!

    Toss a coin!!

  18. PM changes the shutdown order to 10AM.

  19. Key Messages:

Dorian is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to portions
of the Lesser Antilles tonight and Tuesday, where tropical storm
watches and warnings are in effect. Hurricane conditions are also
possible in portions of the Windward Islands, and a hurricane watch
has been issued for St. Lucia. Residents in these areas should refer
to advice from local government officials and products from their
local meteorological service for additional information.
Dorian is expected to produce 3 to 8 inches of rainfall from
Martinique to St. Vincent, including Barbados, with isolated totals
as high as 10 inches in portions of the northern Windward Islands.
The risk of direct impacts from wind and rainfall has increased
for Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. Interests in those areas should
monitor the progress of Dorian and tropical storm or hurricane
watches will likely be required later today.
Any potential impacts from Dorian in the Bahamas and Florida
later this week are highly uncertain, given the potential for the
system to interact with the high terrain of Hispaniola.

People fear the wind but the rain is a factor that needs to be taken into account, particularly by people in the Scotland District.

  20. “There are the usual last minutes people who despite info shared from Saturday and yesterday preferred to hit the supermarkets today. They deserve to be stuck in gridlock.”

Many, many got stuck trying to get into Massey because they indeed closed at ten, if you were not tuned in, or word of mouth, you would not have known or were part of the last minute people, the system is indeed moving fast without deviation.

  21. “That is like rubbing salt into the wound, there are still parts of the island without water from the BWA as we speak.”

Even some heights and terraces have not had water for the second day running, these people are just fortuanate enuff to be able to afford to purchase water and ice, hope the warehouses have stock, cause all water was sold out as of 2 hours ago..

  22. UPDATE:

As of 5 minutes ago, water in some heights and terraces was restored…so fill up whatever you can..

  23. SCRATCH THAT..

water is gone again, it lasted all of 5 minutes, not enuff time to fill up anything.

  24. @ David.

Now I was told by the PM that I should only listen for news from reputable sources like CBC and so on. I listened to her whole address and I didn’t hear a mention of BU as a reliable source.

I trust you will therefore send the boss lady a strongly worded letter objecting to the exclusion of your entity as a reliable news source! Lol

    Must have missed it.

Please note, due to the shortage of garbage trucks, garbage has been piling up all over the island.

We are happy to announce that Tropical Storm Dorian will be collecting your garbage later today.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation.

BU is a step child, despite this we are loved by many. The irony is that the boss lady monitors BU LOL.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is forecasting up to 8 inches. 8 inches is always bad, and up to 10 inches over the Northern Windward islands.

  30. … sorry … witless, not witless!!

  31. Wutless!!!

  32. @ David.

Alright then once she know they will be repercussions for future omittance!

  33. We may be lucky.

The storm looks like it will run right over us.

We just may escape the highest winds in the North East sector.

How is the traffic load dealing with the shutdown in your neck of the wood ?

About 9:30 I tried to go to the gas station at Warrens. I was so full I changed my mind, since the vehicle (not mine) is still about 2/3 full. but the traffic had been nice and easy when I left home at 7:15 to go to Bridgetown.

I went to bed at 1:30 a.m. and woke up at 6;30 a.m.. Sometime during the night I heard sounds outside, and when I got up the whole neighbourhood was as clean as a whistle. As i drove into town I noticed the same. And workers sweeping the street at Eagle Hall.

Hi Ross University wish i was a fly on the wall to hear govt and Ross plans for the students as the hurricane looms closer to barbados
Isnt it ironic that Ross runs from Dominica to barbados. because of hurricane effects and Barbados is presently caught within the margin of a cat1 hurricane

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It took a day after it passed Barbados for Irma (??) to intensify and hammer Dominica in 2017,

If the strongest winds are in the North East quadrant if the course remains the same Dominica will get the worse whether it strengthens or not.
