Amid all the bad news we heard about JetBlue
Amid all the bad news we heard about JetBlue

Am I right or am I wrong, when I say that Barbados like it under some sort of omen? Somehow nothing seems to be going right in this lil rock we call home. Pause a minute though, just nowadays? How long now since we had  the St. Peter’s school teachers and all its embroil?  Plenty bad business that could  draw up quite a long exhausting list. It seems like a never ending continuum. As soon as one down, up pops another. People enough have gone on sabbatical. Sometimes too, like they not coming back,  intentional or not.

So why then are we seeing all these dark shadows and mini horrors? There is talk surfacing that from the time des witches came here and had their convention and séance (up near Sam Lords), bad luck and trouble seems to have beset our gates. Some say they have cast a spell on this once bounteous land.

Seems like we now need to seek out a Merlin to reverse their ominous spells. All this of course if you are superstitious. If you are not, then one must consider what has transpired , in an all out effort to understand why this once time “good girl” Barbados, now turn BADD…

Indeed a tough one…..now don’t say Myrie. LOL

  3. What has this to do with JETblue? I’ve reliably informed that JETblue is introducing a new aircraft and its first flight will be Barbados. This new plane has improved seating, which even as it is right now is supirior to A.A. There most be a reason why they chose to introduce the plane to Barbados first

  4. onions,

You may be right. Nothing seems to be going right in this country, everyday you wake up, you have to wonder what next.

Today we heard that Mc Enearney will be restructuring and jobs will be lost.

onions, boy, it pays to cry on TV. One man cried on TV last week saying that he cannot get his projects approved, next thing the de facto PM……Donville Inniss and his sidekick the AG met with the mighty crier and just so these two approved both projects.

Can anyone tell BU where on earth is the man who is supposed to be the PM of Barbados?
Is not Town and Country Planning under the PM?
What right does Donville have to approve planning?
What right does Adriel Brathwaite have to be dealing with a matter certainly not under his portfolio?
Who is really in control of this country? Is it really Donville, Adriel (the worst AG we have ever had) or Stinkliar?

In the meanwhile, the mighty crier gets what he wants! What a country we live in!

  5. Why pontificate about the dark clouds hovering over Barbados.. This was what the people voted for in February 2013..People with money realize that the DLP jackasses would continue to be a disaster so out they went with their money. Tek dat now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Laughing at the Guyanese. Trinis and jamaicans would be a thing of the past. The gun crime has reached our shores.

  10. Can anyone tell me why are all/majority of the houses that were built by the DLP are covered with bushes. Our hard earned dollars just rotting away. More of our tax dollars to carry out repairs before they are sold. If it ever reach that selling stage.

  13. The answer to “who blight this Rock” is simple ….. us!!

Do you even know the significance of the word Rock as it is used here or are you just using it because you came up and found it in use?

Figure that one out and you will figure out what we have to do!!

  14. “Am I right or am I wrong, when I say that Barbados like it under some sort of omen? Somehow nothing seems to be going right in this lil rock we call home.”

OOB, The present MESS we are in as a nation, ain’t got nothing to do with either the BPL or DLP; yes, as respective governments, they have both contributed to the terrible ‘spiritual’ plight we are in, plus each and everyone of US, either to a greater or lesser extent, the ‘Church’ included.

We have called ‘EVIL’ good, and ‘GOOD’ evil, we have and are promoting wanton, SINFUL* debased, revelry, as a means to generate foreign exchange, CAN’T WORK!

We hold so-called Church services, in official government splendor, a show of NOTHINGNESS, paying lip-service to Almighty God, then blatantly and arrogantly, DEFYING His Righteous, Holy Name, CAN’T WORK!

Those who name Christ as Savour and Lord, NEED to repent of their of their lukewarm condition, and get serious with JESUS.

Those who DO NOT know Jesus as Saviour and Lord, better get Saved, as we ARE approaching the END-TIME of Almighty God’s LINEAR Time table,
UNLESS, we as a people, individually, as families, and as a NATION, REPENT, TURN FROM OUR WICKED WAY, we are NOT COMING OUT OF THIS FINANCIAL MESS!

  15. On his dying bed, the dead king perpetuated the biggest sin on Barbados……he declared Chris Sinckler the Minister of Finance and this was further perpetuated this neophyte on finance on Barbados. Sinckler has continued to fool Barbadians that he knows what he is doing by his arrogant, bullying, obnoxious stance when challenged.

That he is totally out of his depth is very apparent. It is there for all to see the state of our economy, he CANNOT continue to blame any recession. You have a government that has taken in more revenue than ever before yet overspend every year:

2008/2009 Revenue 2.6 BILLION yet overspent by 256 MILLION
2009/2010 Revenue 2.3 BILLION yet overspent by 557 MILLION
2010/2011 Revenue 2.3 BILLION yet overspent by 647 MILLION
2011/2012 Revenue 2.5 BILLION yet overspent by 284 MILLION
2012/2013 Revenue 1.8 BILLION yet overspent by 260 MILLION

The problem is other than two bus shelters in Oistins, the still unfinished highway project, the unoccupied fowl coops, I cannot see what all this money was spent on. And yes, the apologists will say they were repaying debt…………give me a break.

To add to this, the Central bank has been printing money as if it was going out of style. The de facto PM reportedly recently told a business man that things are so bad that they have no other option than to continue to print money. Barbados has now been embarrassed on the world stage having to withdraw a bond tender issued on the international market. What a shame! Can we continue to blame this on a so called world recession?

No this is a result of a man totally out of his depth. In other words, a monkey handling a gun!

  16. Prodical

In case you did not read my response to Peltdownman in the Barbados Tourism: Plan versus Actual blog, who said “What is needed is for the Auditor General to tell us where the money is really going.”; I am copying it here.

“Wouldn’t it be great if the Auditor General COULD tell us where the money is going – or has gone.

This is from Chapter 1, General Issues, in the Report of the Auditor General for the year 2012.

“1.2 It has been five (5) years since Government has been switched from the cash to accrual basis of accounting; however, there continue to be considerable shortcomings in the accounts presented which have so far resulted in the Audit Office being unable to verify that the financial statements are presented fairly and in accordance with International Public Sector Accounting standards. There were numerous omissions from the financial statements presented, and these included over $150 million which was owed to the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
1.3 Revenue continues to be recorded on a cash, rather than an accrual basis, and numerous items on the balance sheet such as Plant, Equipment and Furniture, and Accounts Receivable could not be verified because of the absence of adequate supporting schedules. There is a need for an urgent examination of accounting currently being practiced by Government since, in many instances, there is no adherence to International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) to which the Government has subscribed. Regrettably, as in previous years, I have to report that my Office could not certify that the financial statements which were presented gave an accurate picture of the financial position and operations of the Government.”

So the Auditor General CAN’T tell us where the money is going or where it has gone.

How can anyone trust what the MOF or the GOB say if they cannot keep an accurate set of books?

How can anyone trust anything the Government says?
QEH cannot pay $20 million owed to drug suppliers (partners).
BTA has $13 million of past due payables, according to the MOF in his budget speech. How do we know it is not $23 million, or $33 million.
How can Government expect to raise money on international markets, when it can’t keep the books?

This is much worse than DD could have imagined.

    IMF to the rescue please.”

The problem is of course not totally the fault of the out of his depth MOF, nor wholly due to the global recession, but rather the financial crisis in which Barbados finds itself is the result of the entire Government spending $2 billion (17%) more than its revenue in the past 5 years. The five years of overspending is greater than its total revenue in 2012-2013. And, given the Auditor General’s comments about the inadequacy of the Government’s financial records, the deficit spending may be much worse then has been reported.

It is obvious that no one in Government or Cabinet, including the business guru Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development ( who is spending his time with Bizzy opening a Burger King) could see this coming.

    Excellent post, DD

Did you read my post re the “financial guru” according to your assessment…….where the financial guru and the AG gave the crying business man the approval for the projects he cried that he could not get approved. Mind you this is not the financial guru’s portfolio or the AG. But hey, the PM aint leading, so why not the General Secretary?

No wonder he was invited to open Burger King!

  20. Prodigal

Yes I did read it – well said

BTW, has anybody seen or heard from the Minister to whom Town and Country Planning reports since he left for his one week “private” trip to Canada a couple of weeks ago?

  21. I asked that question of many persons and every one said, we have not heard or seen him neither I have not even seen his official car on the road.

Maybe he is overseeing the construction of the canopy and installation of the elevator for which $800,000 plus was voted. This is the kind of wasteful, unnrecessary spending of which we speak.

Illaro Court is only two stories, what is so wrong with the current occupant that we the taxpayers have to shell out over $800,000 to install an elevator and a canopy? What’s wrong with him that he cannot climb a flight of stairs? If he is not well, give up the job as it seems as if he is not in control, Donville seems to be calling the shots!

Is the installation of a canopy and an elevator a PRIORITY at this point in time? Our backs are to the wall, can the PM not make a sacrifice? Every last man except DEMS, has had to make sacrifices. If it is that necessary, I would have no problem at another time but this delusional Central Bank Governor we have is printing money at an alarming rate and we are still up shit street drowning in debt and unpaid bills.

Yet according to the worst Minister of Tourism we have ever had and the disc jockey minister, cancelling the football tournament in honour of the dead king was not an option. This tournament cost $600,00 last year, what on earth could cause it to go from $600,000 to $800,000 in one year?

And I am yet to receive my 2011 tax refund, never mind the 2012 refund. The latest I heard on that was that refunds are ready but the Treasury does not have the money!

I pray the good Lord hear our prayer and send help for poor Barbados!

    …………………………………………………………………………………..
The Anglican Church was for ever in bed with the plantocracy, and it was the duty of plantation workers, and most of their children to attend the church which was heavily “offer-ined” by their plantation manages / owners, who occasionally attended church, and had reserved pews at the front of the church for him and his family , who very rarely attended church. The back of the Anglican churches were chock- a -block with “Bajans”, and woe betide any son-of- a bitch, who dared to sit in one of those hallowed pews reserved for the plantation manager.
I know of one radical priest, who on his first Sunday at his new church chided the planter class for continuing this blatant segregation,”Come ,next Sunday”,he said ” I want to see every body sitting together.”
Next Sunday and there was no problem, because the planter class put an immediate stop to visiting that church, followed by the many “Bajan” in the congregation from surrounding plantations, who went off to other churches, leaving a handfull of aged faithfuls.

    BLIGHTERS !

  38. Life on Farmville

Farmer Brown inherited a thriving farm from a noble benefactor. Brown was elated. His pigs were plump and healthy.Hens laying eggs by the droves.Living in the barn was a wise old owl called Olie.He also had geese, ducks and a team of work horses, he called Taxes. Taxes was a robust five horse team that worked day and night if asked never refusing Farmer Brown’s ask. Farmville was so lovely a sight to see, that it became a tourist attraction, with visitors paying good money to see the geese and sheep n hens do their thing. money was flowing….
All in all life on Farmville was sweet. Brown was most pleased and one day said “Whatever could ever go wrong on my farm, I say to you come, for you shall be punished with laughter, or your mountain I shall give way to my mice.” Oh what a mistake that turned out to be as the Sun Goddess Ula heard foolish Farmer Brown challenge. So too did wise owl Owlie in the barn and he was astound.

Next day Ula decided not to look the way of Farmville, instead the Rain Goddess Ravish saw this opportunity to open the flood gates on the fields below. It rained for two days non stop and Farmville turn almost to a sponge. None of the visitors accustomed visiting could no longer make the trip and Farmville was losing money. Farmer Brown knowing this, the next day woke up the team of work horses Taxes, and said somebody got to pay for this, and with that he drove them into the fields to do some most onerous work.
Wise owl Olie saw what had happened and called Farmer Brown aside and warned him of his follies. ” Brown, what kinda poppet ask you is doa? Like you wanna kill these work horses. Look that ent the problem….working Taxes so hard…you need to apologize to Ula above for your stupid ways…you is a mad man or what? Farmer Brown knowing Olie was right but being the proud pomp he was said..” I have nothing to apologize for….don’t you know who I am? I am Nero….look that up you stupid ass Bird you. With that he resumed over working Taxes, until one day the team could take no more and just so, up and dead like neblett goat..BLAm. Just picture twenty foot up in the air. Farmer Brown could not believe his eyes…sorrowful but unremorseful, he decided to hold til the sinew,… and went a bought a new tether and a accompanying new team of work horses.Wise Olie saw again and stupess…He aint listening to nobody…D same thing gine happen again…Sweet Life duz don’t Last too Long…..when your ears hard….

You know she was right. By year end the mountain labored and gave birth to a louse… Farmville was taken over by new owners.Within 8 months the country was on the verge of a standstill with crime escalating and no money in circulation……Oplus Fingus Omni Dofulus. They will never learn.

  39. wait how de phuced are the bills going to be paid ,, when every thing was going good nobody thought about the bills having to be made ..nobody thought that one day all the sweetness would come to a streeching halt,,, everybody belly was full the fattedlamd was carved and served to all but the country and the poorest among us..but let me tell yuh dis OOB ,, now the coin is flip .. no more fattted calf … the once full bellies gpnna feel pain cause wunna didn’t give a rats ass about reserving and planning a future for all,, wunna didn’t give a damm, so why wunna now crying,, ever heard no pain no gain,,, well that is where the country is at … thanks to 14 years of wasted plenty,,OOB ,, Always remember .. Onion, nobody wants Barbados to fail; but you have to remember that Barbados, for over 300 years, had been the most dominant island in the Eastern Caribbean; while Dominica and St.Lucia stayed at the bottom. So it is naturally ok for Barbados to take a slide to make way for the Dominicas and St.Lucias. Hey, everything is cyclical.
