No true epistemological justice can be done to a subject as divisive as this one in a nutshell of about 2400 words. Bearing in mind, the myriad planks of historical inexactitudes, spurious lies & false narratives given wings by those who wrote the historical record.
At the end of the French Revolution in 1798, Robert Malthus opined that ‘the rate of change of a population would be proportional to the actual population at any given time.’ The world back then numbered just over 800 million. Today, we are almost 10 times that number! And although this discourse will not primarily focus on Malthusian mathematics per se – population & ethnographic science, racial & economic slavery were the harbingers by which political philosophy and the evolutionary transgenesis of human capital became the markers that determined the politics we nurture so fervently as life and the discursive narrative we so benignly espouse.
On December 6, 1865, a coalition comprising three-quarters of the United States ratified the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, abolishing slavery and affirming the inalienable truth that “no nation founded on the principles of liberty and equality” (as in the case of France – libertéégalité, fraternité 1848 February Revolution) could survive ‘half-slave and half-free’.
In Kabbalistic timing, on December 6th, 2015, Barack Obama in a speech from the Oval Office, (EXACTLY) 150 years after the ratification of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution cited: “Today, we continue the long journey toward an America and a world where liberty and equality are not reserved for some, but extended to all. Across the globe, including right here at home, millions of men, women, and children are victims of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. We remain committed to abolishing slavery in all its forms and draw strength from the courage and resolve of generations past. One hundred and fifty years after the 13th Amendment’s ratification, the United States endures, and though the ‘scourge of slavery’ is a stain on our history, we remain a people not trapped by the mistakes of our past, but one that can look at our imperfections with humility and decide it is within our power to remake our Nation to more closely align with our highest ideals…”
One hundred and fifty years on, with such salubriously eloquent, pacifyingly elucubratory sounding words from Obama, many saw them as nothing more than insincere platitudes and to others, America with her Western English-speaking allied nations are even more divided over issues of race, migration and equality than at any time since the so-called ‘Founding Fathers’, ran from the king of the North, (who at the time was Great Britain), desiring no king or pope to rule over them.
This presaged narrative still speaks to all the ‘EVILS’ prevalent in modern 21st century society – many of which precariously hang upon modern slavery, EUGENICS & the Black Holocaust – the greatest of these, having shown how men have bred ‘RACISM’ and conquest in each diabolical phase of history leading up to what will be eventual anarchy.
For the past 2000 years, according to those who had the privilege to write the historical record was fostered this notion, as Hobbes et al purported: “that man was incapable of governing himself in a state of nature that was vile, brutish and nasty and would lead to death” resulting in the first known man-made evil called: “ROYALTY” or what Republicans call “MONARCHY”(as the rule of law) – the “DIVINE” right of kings– dictatorially sacrosanct in the lives and affairs of men.
What Obama in his mindless state of cognitive dissonance failed to recognize was that the supposed ‘Founding Fathers’ were in fact nothing more than a hodge-podge of Satanists, Illuminists & Calvinists who got together to write a DOCUMENT that would shape the global political landscape for the next 200 years.
So while the tyranny of “Monarchial” rule brought endless wars, resulting in gross excesses of blood-letting, where the pendulum of conquest swung back and forth relentlessly – kings were set up and overthrown, with kingdoms rising and falling with the tragic and incessant loss of millions of innocent lives. Yet a more sinister EVIL was to emerge:Elite ARISTOCRACY!
Many have asked: “What absolutely is the best form of government?” The answer still remains elusive; as there is only deafening silence – for it is an “unanswerable question, as well as indeterminate; or rather, there are as many good answers as there are possible combinations in the absolute and relative situations of all nations – then it must be asked by what sign we may know that a given people is well or ill governed, (which is another matter), and the question, being one of fact, admits of an answer.”
The above quote comes from the book ‘Contract Theory’ Ch. 9 – sociopolitical theory that was birthed out of the French Revolution & the Enlightenment period by men such as Jean Jacques Rousseau et al. His definitive work “The Social Contract” (1762) posits some poignant insights into how the self-interested behaviour of members of ALL GOVERNMENTS will inevitably and invariably use their power and position to pursue their own selfish private interests (their “particular will”) at the expense of the people (the “general will”). Are we not seeing that Leviathan raise its ugly head more & more in the #POTUS2016 election?
Do not be fooled or get caught out, for Rousseau clearly believed that: “First, when the Prince ceases to administer the State in accordance with the laws, and usurps the Sovereign power. A remarkable change then occurs: not the government, but the State, undergoes contraction; I mean that the great State is dissolved, and another is formed within it, composed solely of the members of the government, which becomes for the rest of the people merely MASTER* & TYRANT*. So that the moment the government usurps the Sovereignty, the social compact is broken, and all private citizens recover by right their natural liberty, and are forced, but not bound, to obey.”
In the last 2000 years, Euro-AngloSaxophile hegemonic aristocracy has been ruling our world. Some today believe that Papal Ashkenazi Zionists Court Jews own, runs our major banks, governments and media houses – controlling the military industrial complex, colleges & universities and are the captains of industry across the board.
Power has become so concentrated to the point, where ‘ARISTOCRACY’ have now morphed in ‘OLIGARCHY’– where the ultra-super-rich control the flagging of all white spaces; white terror and white noise – fueling the geopolitical racialization in global violence, cementing a “Clash of Civilizations” coupled with the added spurious variant concept called ‘White Privilege’ which has created a world teeter-tottering toward tectonic transitioning.
Since the start of the 20th century, Western nations under their Elites moved briskly towards a political paradigm called ‘DEMOCRACY’ – a Grecian concept which is still to live out the full meaning of its existence. However, since the turn of the last century, we have witnessed two major world wars and now the specter of a looming #WW3 beckons. Each war in its own framework was caused by the power elites within nation-states (many under monarchial & aristocratic control) jockeying for territorial resources, economic pre-eminence and human supremacy. As in the case of #WW1, the factors which led to war were simply: (alliances, imperialism, militarism, & nationalism) and with the assassination of Austrian-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand – it all “kicked–off”.
Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia; then Russia got involved to defend Serbia. Germany seeing Russia mobilizing its forces declared war on Russia. France was then drawn into the fray against Germany and Austria-Hungary. Germany then attacked France through Belgium pulling Britain into the war. Suddenly, Japan entered the war escalating it to where, Italy and the United States would enter on the side of the allies and voila (#WW1). This was to be the war to end all wars but was more the peace to end all peace!
Sadly, the ‘masters of the universe’ have learnt nothing from devastating war, infamy, bloodshed and death. In the wake of this apocalysus, 17 million were dead and 20 million maimed. This has been the end-result of the White man’s so-called hegemonic rule on the earth.
Modern social theorists agree that #WW2 became an extension of #WW1 given the draconian clauses within the Treaty of Versailles that were imposed on Germany for £6.6 billion for war reparations. With the treaty signed, Europeans expected Germany to honor her commitments and with its economy in tatters; its army decimated and the people starving and dying from disease – a vacuum was created for the rise of another papal court Jew Adolf Hitler. His plan was the restoration of former German glory (‘MAKE GERMANY GREAT AGAIN’) – with no plans of honoring any agreements.
With ‘The Great Depression’ wreaking havoc on European nations and across America – the ‘Axis Powers’ i.e. USA, Britain et al formed very aggressive trade policies against “Second” group nations which challenged the “First group of nations’ dominance in the world. So they began to ‘DUMP’ their products, (sell below cost) to get GOLD to buy much needed resources and raw materials.
Germany began bypassing the use of gold through trade with other nations which included Bilateral Trade Agreements, where trade often consisted of barter-type trade using goods instead of hard currency (like gold). When Germany exported its goods to its trading partners, they directly exchanged for other goods using a credit-type system with them, who paid in commensurate credits, redeemable only with their original country’s goods.
These policies tied Germany’s trading partners to her and took them out of the world market and as a result the decline in use of gold threatened the financial centres of London and New York – then on June 5th, 1933, Prez. FDR signed the United States off the ‘gold standard’, as the ‘Axis’ powers used aggressive economic policies and military forces to set up trading monopolies. This was the first shot across the starboard bow of DEMOCRACY which then morphed into a kind of OCHLOCRACY – but not according to the definition, for ‘mob rule’ came in the form of ‘WHITE ELITES’ (the 0.1%) calling all the shots – determining who lives & who dies. This ‘state of nature’ was as Thomas Hobbes et al had described, taking on new meaning with global reverberations for the 7+ Billion who now live upon the earth.
Cambridge academic Professor Margaret MacMillan in her book The War That Ended Peace cited that “right-wing and nationalist politics across the world had been a factor which precipitated #WW1 and she sees a similar parallel in the Middle East. For just as the Balkans ideological issues resulted in the murder of Archduke Ferdinand creating #WW1 – the Middle East could be viewed as the modern-day equivalent of this turbulent region. A nuclear arms race would be likely to start if Iran developed nuclear capabilities and “would make for a very dangerous world indeed, which could lead to a recreation of the kind of tinderbox that exploded in the Balkans 102 years ago…” She argues that “now, as then, the march of globalization has lulled us into a false sense of safety,” suggesting that the Middle East will more than likely be the axis which foments #WW3.”
To a some degree Professor McMillan is correct, however, to point to Iran as the nexus for Middle East destabilization is frankly disingenuous and short-sighted given the role that Zionist Israeli poliTRICKS have played since the 1950’s and the ongoing specious ruminations within Washington & London over the territorial integrity of Palestinians (people of color) to live in their own land and the Arab discontent that fuels potential anarchy.
In Carl L. Becker (1932) thought-provoking book – “The Heavenly City of the 18th Century Philosophers”, p. 43 – 44, issued a stark commentary on ‘TYRANNY OF RACE RELATIONS’: “When they laid down their arms, we murdered them. We lied to them. We cheated them out of their lands. We starved them into signing fraudulent agreements that we called treaties which we never kept. We turned them into beggars on a continent that gave life for as long as life can remember. And by any interpretation of history, however twisted, we did not do right. We were not lawful nor were we just in what we did. For them, we do not have to restore these people, we do not have to live up to some agreements, because it is given to us by virtue of our power to attack the rights of others, to take their property, to take their lives, when they are trying to defend their land and liberty, and to make their virtues a crime and our own vices virtues…”
It is difficult to argue against Becker’s analysis!
From African colonization, to the African slave, to the Native First Peoples around the world, to every person of color, who became an object of commodification, human cargo & capital to ‘Children of a Lesser God’, to lesser than human-beings, clearly shows how dispossessed people over the centuries have been raped, robbed, ransacked & ravaged out of their lands, heritage and traditions – in almost all cases, forced to flee and/or are imprisoned, SOLD as slaves, used as ‘engine-rooms’ of war, their women raped and the elders murdered all in the name of CORPORATE and national profit, as the political narrative changed from one distinct EVIL to another.
RACISM has been the inherent catalyst in this cabal of the SEVEN PILLARS OF EVIL giving rise to Satanic atrocities which still continues to plague humanity, right down to our time in human history. As keen historical students in this flow of time, we know that in every instance, all that’s left to unfold are the ravages of ‘TOTAL ANARCHISM’ – the last and final, virulent EVIL which stalks the walls of our carnal, immoral security. For in the words of the prophet Isaiah: “The wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.”(57:20-21)

As Obama steps up his concentration on the part of government where he still holds relative influence, he and his allies are taking a beating in Ukraine. As commodity prices leap into a deflationary death spiral, American internal pressures mount on the Venezuelan government to curb its influence in the region, with a serious threat to the Maduro regime. With the ’empire of chaos’ becoming more and more unpredictable, by the day, foreign policy thinkers are seeking to make sense of what appears to be a monumental nonsense – they must come to see it as characteristic of empire’s end. With the rise of Syreza, in Greece, Europhiles are waiting for an anti-austerity backlash that could change the political landscape of the community and deliver a mixture of socialists and far right elements into the seat of several governments.
This represents but a snapshot of the global political-economic-military environment. It is an environment in which interests, not friendship nor sentimentality, inform national decision making in a largely callous manner. There is no loyalty amongst nation states as there is none amongst thieves. So the ‘peace’ president has traveled to Indian where he signed significant agreements with Narendra Modi, an ultra right wing, Hindu, zealot. Those agreements included the transfer of nuclear technology in a potentially volatile arena. The trade dimensions would suggest to observers that Indian is now being groomed to challenge or create a rift in relations with China. It is however remarkable that at the military parade, of which Obama was invited to observe, nearly 100% of the equipment on display was Russian.
The schizophrenia of Western leaders and policymakers reminds us of their ‘illustrious’ forebears in Ancient Rome, particularly Nero and Caligula. For it was Caligula (37AD – 41AD) who named his horse as pro-counsel and Nero (54AD – 68AD) whose location of extreme madness at the centre of world governance remains infamous, even after nearly 2000 years. The proximity of this culture of insanity is not unlike the normalization of the madness of Bush (the younger) and Reagan, in more recent times. If we wanted to be charitable to Obama and then proceeded to draw parallels to the Libyan Roman Emperor, Alexander Serverus (222AD – 235AD), based solely on their supposedly mixed racial characteristics, a straight line of insanity to high office could be drawn directly to Barack Obama. Indeed, all Presidents of the USA were, are and must be, mad dogs of war.
At the end of the ‘last’ Cold War, Bush, the father, Reagan and Clinton promised Gorbachev of the former USSR that they will not bring NATO to Russia’s borders. However, as soon as there were sure about the formal dismantlement of the Soviet Empire they proceeded to do exactly that, with a number of states of the former USSR either joining NATO or becoming members of the European Union (EU) or both.

President Barack Obama seeks approval of Congress to strike Syria
Even in the face of clear evidence that the Syrian government had nothing to do with the alleged use of chemical weapons (CW) in Ghouta around the 21th August 2013, the war party advances. Indeed, the evidence now points clearly at the Western backed, Takfiri, Al-Qaeda, heart eating, hand chopping, head severing terrorists supported by America and her allies that include Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, UAE, France, UK and Qatar. Terrorists, who used CW in Syria 14 separate times, some of whom were caught with CW in Turkey, were responsible for the CW attack in Aleppo where 28 died and who have projected themselves on an endless number of YouTube videos testing chemical weapons. The feign moral pretense by John Kerry, Barrack Obama and their acolytes must be accompanied by a massive propaganda war to hide the lack of morality or truth in their pack of lies. The United States and its allies are indeed the ones who most often used CW or supplied them to belligerents in times of war and peace. Indeed, the USA has vast stockpiles of all kinds of chemical, biological, conventional and nuclear weapons waiting to be used on humanity. Not even Gorbachev could persuade the American to destroy its nuclear weapons. And whereas, there were many times in the recent past where chemical and other banned weapons were use by America, Israel and other belligerents supported by the West. And whereas, the United States of America has, from its establishment, used false flag operations or ‘national security events’ as reasons for engagement in foreign wars in order to achieve political objectives or even change political calculations at home. And whereas, the determination by Obama and the military-industrial-security apparatus is just another bald-faced lie by this administration, to pimp Obama out as a war criminal to achieve corporate objectives, we must conclude that this here war is premeditated.
Just over six years ago Black people in the Caribbean and elsewhere welcomed the elevation of Barrack Obama to the presidency of the United States. He came in with all types of grandiose promises of change. Expectations were high. Large numbers of misguided Blacks generally proclaimed all manner of transformational and transcendental narratives and imbued the social consciousness, universally, with a massive mis-direction. Obama promised much and much more was expected. This ‘happy talk’ was even espoused by some of the backward elites in academia in the Caribbean and at Cave Hill. In response, we warned them that Obama came from a CIA family. We argued that a man whose mother was a NOC (Non-Official Cover), whose father was a NOC, whose step-father was a NOC, whose grandfather and grandmother were NOCs; whose career was skilfully managed by his mother’s friends in the CIA for his introduction as a Manchurian candidate, would be largely unhelpful to any people, especially Black people. Our central critique was well rooted in our judgment that the political system in the USA was largely collapsed and in any event, given the unparalleled power of ‘lobbies’, it was IMPOSSIBLE for any USA government or president to do anything, exclusively, in the interests of the American people, far less – Black people alone. All Black people have gotten from Obama is the faux ‘strict father’ bullshit that he learnt from Reagan. Obama has outdone Bush in his contributions to the development of a most perverse and radical Neo-fascism that surpasses anything that ever occurred in Germany after the Reichstag fire.
Glenn Greenwald’s recent and continuing disclosures in the Guardian Newspaper led the Washington Post to report “They quite literally can watch your ideas form as you type,” the officer said. Greenwald’s reporting includes proof that Obama has had his secret FISA courts issue subpoenas to collect vast amounts (terabytes) of metadata data from 100 million Verizon customers daily. We now know that all the other communications firms are doing likewise. This ‘son of a bitch’ is listening to your calls to your grandmother. He is listening to your calls to your wife. He can watch you from the sky. He can see us tying this article on our computer right now. He can see every fax you send. He can see all the people who are called by the people you call. Caribbean governments are supine in this respect. We are willing to argue, in the absence of empirical evidence, though we may have access to other anecdotal evidences, that the phone carriers in the Caribbean are axiomatically part of this NSA (National Security Agency) big brother worldwide society. Not one Caribbean politician will have the ‘balls’ to address this issue. Even if there did the USA sells them their communication equipment and there are means to intercept all communications within the Caribbean. The corporations in the Caribbean, like, LIME and Digicel, have a history of active cooperation with the international security services agencies. More broadly all of the communications of the people of the Caribbean have been for decades monitored by external security services.
The enigmatic intellectual acrobatics of Mr. Paul Kokoski (The right to life, Jan. 27 Advocate) always bemuse. If he is so positive in his belief that life is not only given by God but made in his image as well, what then are we to make of his visceral disgust, so evident in previous letters, for homosexuals, which scientific analysis has confirmed account for about 8 percent of all births? The right to life must include the right to live as one was created.
President Obama’s reelection seems to have deepened the beguilement which so entranced Barbadians when he was first elected, as evidenced by Sir Ronald Sanders in his glowing commentary, “President Obama: The man unveiled”, also appearing in the Jan. 27 Advocate. Prime Minister Stuart recently compared himself to Mr. Obama and I am sure many parents and teachers cite Mr. Obama as a model children should strive to emulate. And why not? Superb oratorical skills, Harvard Law graduate, senator at both state and federal levels, recipient of the Nobel Prize, two-term U.S. president who seems a decent and caring family man.

Bajans can’t wait to wade into the election euphoria now in its Christmas season in the United States and elsewhere. Not all Bajans though, for there are some of us who, in fact about 50% of us, have consistently NOT voted for either one of the two dominate parties in what are generally called western democracies. But this factoid has never alarmed the protectors of these pernicious political duopolies. We are told that the un-voted don’t count. Moreover, with the possible exception of Australia and a few other countries, where there are civil fines for choosing not to exercise a so-called democratic right, most people everywhere have acted with their feet and the determination that elections are merely window dressing to obscure the operational requirements of fascism as the dominate and underlying system of governance.
The American election system from at least the Reconstruction period has been synonymous with high-tech fraud. It is American which gave us the lexicon for election fraud whether to illegally overthrow a government or to maintain a compliant regime – at home or abroad. They gave us words such as ‘gerrymandering’, ‘redistricting’ and ‘robocalling’. A documentarian has remarked that when the American fossil is dug up our descendants will be left to wonder why so many people were running around talking about democracy when in fact few people benefited from the actions of party political actors operating across epochs. Strictly speaking the United States of America is not even a democracy. But you can’t tell that to the masses of the people who are enthralled by the religiously emotional diatribes of leading Democrats and Republicans. The political science literature tends to consider the American political system as a poliocracy. But very few would be aware of this. And even if they were, would it make a difference? Yet, for over a century the marketing of ‘democracy’ (as a political system) has intentionally misled several generations to view the Anglo-American political constructions as worthy of emulation.
By way of an example yesterday I listened to the U.S anticipated Republican nominee Mitt Romney speak to Virginia voters on CNN, in the speech he stated that President Obama has weakened the U.S Navy and cited that the US Navy today has the same “number” of ships as it did in 1917 as why. Now how in the “HELL” can a logical person compare the U.S Navy’s capabilities in 1917 to that of the U.S Navy in 2012. One US Aircraft Carrier today carries 5,000 men onboard and enough weaponry to destroy entire nations, just one. One nuclear submarine has enough weaponry to destroy large chucks of the earth, just one.
This kind of statement I call “Political Spin” and if politics was like Kung-fu folks like Romney would be considered “Shaolin Spin Masters”. “Spin Masters” bank on the public not fact checking claims as the spin masters distort many realities and truths in favour of political agendas.
Africa has haplessly watched the insanity of NATO in Libya, the AU has passively watched French and English military jets being used as the air force for the rag tag rebels in Libya, and today Africa listens attentively as Westerners say they want to bring humanitarian aid to Libya, a country that owes no debt to anyone, a country whose US$70 billion has been illegally confiscated by Western powers, indeed a country that has been the AU’s major funder for years.
This writer broke in tears listening to a rebel in Libya saying “we built this entire infrastructure with Gaddafi, and we will build it again. We are capable of building our country.” He had been asked by a journalist why he was wantonly shooting at buildings and smashing windows. To me this was a sad sight of a young African being spirited back to colonial domination, being used by Western powers to destroy what took forty years for Libya to build, and totally lacking consciousness over the meaning of national independence.
We have a sad reality where the destructive acts of Libyan rebels are celebrated as freedom fighting; while we are told to ignore the threat the continent is facing by allowing Western war planes to rampage our cities at will. I feel so powerless to stop it, yet so powerful to fight it all. This is a time when one feels like doing anything possible to hit back, anything thinkable or imaginable. This aggression by Westerners can be for long but it won’t be forever. The current African Union is a bunch of cowardly bucolic boofheads totally mesmerised by Western donor funding. They look pretty scared as they seem all determined to avoid angering the Westerners. What an unthinking lot of hopeless traitors!

On June 14th, 2001, George W. Bush in what was meant to be a snide remark to Swedish PM Goran Perrson (though unaware of television cameras still rolling) facetiously opined – “It’s amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity and incumbency.”
Since Bush’s disastrous two-term tenure as president – is anyone really laughing? Where are the LOL’s folks? What did George Bush and his Religious Rights friends do to the American moral landscape – touting the virtues of democracy to the known world while at the same time, living a hypocritical lie immersed in the politics of greed, corruption and destabilization?
As I sat to write this article having imbibed and digested Deepak Chopra’s book – “The Third Jesus”: The Christ We Cannot Ignore, I became even more conscious of how the religious politics and ruminations in American society at this present moment raise sinister challenges which few are truly aware of. Religious voices are muttering everywhere but none of them seem to be making any real sense – especially within the establishment of the Religious Right.
The planet earth is under siege. The ravages of war and conflict precipitate. The colossus of negative political and religious spin ferments as the hearts and minds of men suffers from information fallout fatigue. The time honoured traditions of decadent, myopic socio-religious politics continues to meander through a maze of fractiousness, intolerance, instability and controversy.
Today, Tony Blair’s autobiography hits the book shelves describing his justification for starting the modern-day “CRUSADE” between what he and George Bush* calls radical Islam and Zionist Christianity. Jewry, Islam and Christianity continue to merge and feud at historical crossroads in an apocalyptic battle for supremacy. The sinister forces which have brewed this religious and political alchemy seek to exacerbate a clash of civilizations which will result in a doomsday nuclear holocaust where the embers will burn across the Middle East consuming everything in its path.
But is this blind arrogance on man’s part – or the manipulation of invisible forces outside the reach of cognitive human understanding?
Whatever the reason, moves are afoot to add fuel to that emerging fire, where a few weeks ago, (in the form of a resolution by Republicans in the USA House of Representatives) resolution, H.Res.1553 was tabled which provides unequivocal support for a surgical military strike against Iran according to the Huffington Post.
There has been much debate regarding the role of Israel in initiating an attack against Iran. Israel is part of a military alliance. Tel Aviv is not a prime mover. It does not have a separate and distinct military agenda.
Israel is integrated into the “war plan for major combat operations” against Iran formulated in 2006 by US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). In the context of large scale military operations, an uncoordinated unilateral military action by one coalition partner, namely Israel, is from a military and strategic point almost an impossibility. Israel is a de facto member of NATO. Any action by Israel would require a “green light” from Washington.
An attack by Israel could, however, be used as “the trigger mechanism” which would unleash an all out war against Iran, as well retaliation by Iran directed against Israel –Michael Chossudovsky
President Barack Obama’s arrival at the White House signalled hope to many in the USA and around the world. On that unforgettable night his victory speech resonated around the theme ‘Change Has Come ToAmerica’. How quickly we have forgotten the emotional scenes which were highlighted by the global media on the night of 4 November 2008. The fact that he was the first African-American to assume the presidency no doubt made it special given the history of Blacks which is forever embedded in world history.
Almost 2 years later Obama can list of his significant achievements, the stabilization of the US economy after the Bush handover. When he got to sit in the Oval Office he had inherited an economy which was tottering on the brink of disaster. Although some financial analysts have warned of a double dip on the horizon, most agree there has been stabilization. Obama has reason to list the healthcare legislation which was ramrod through the US legislature. It is not what he wanted (watered down version) but it is an achievement which not even former President Bill Clinton was able to achieve as one of USA most popular presidents. Another proud moment is his success at depositing 2 relatively young women on the bench of the US Supreme Court. His selections will influence US law agenda for decades to come.
A recent poll in the US reported that 43% of Americans when asked “What is Obama’s religion?” still are unsure, with many still thinking he is a Muslim. Let me keep it real for a moment, I’m not a betting man but it would not surprised me if we discovered that many of the unsure and still confused about Obama’s religion are those who have not gotten over the nation electing the first African-American President.
Many of these same folks who believe this nonsense of Obama being a Muslim which he has said repeatedly he is not, interestingly enough also blast him for being associated with the controversial Christian Reverend Wright as one of his followers. OK confused people which one is it?
Racism and religious bigotry in the US in recent years has had to find new ways to spew its venom, and from time to time raises it’s ugly head in very creative ways. What is also puzzling to me is that despite religious freedom being a founding principle in the US constitution, somehow its core meaning often gets marginalized.
Dear Madame Secretary of State, welcome to my beautiful island home. Please convey to your distinguished President our very best wishes for continued good health, wisdom and success in his endeavors to improve the lot of the American people.
In Barbados we have a saying that “So and So like they kill a priest”. What this essentially means is that the person appears to be on the receiving end of a strain of bad luck; brought on as recompense for an act most dastardly. In most instances, however, as is the case with President Obama, the streak of misfortune is not so easily explained and is often times surmised as continuously “pulling a bad hand”.
How else, Madam Secretary, could one explain misfortunes, one after the other, in Mr. Obama’s mere 18 month presidency? History shows that a succession of crises can sink confidence in a leader. Yet, somewhat reassuringly, President Obama prevails. It’s as if he is being put through the hottest fires, to prove his true metal.
Matt Bai, writing in the New York Times of Sunday, June 6th, commented that President Obama is that rare politician who is also a gifted writer, and that he understands the power of a good metaphor. Bai asserts that Obama could therefore appreciate the poetic significance of that cloud of oil, ubiquitous on cable television all last week, spewing endlessly from a 5, 000-foot-deep puncture in the Gulf of Mexico.
