Doyen of the Political Class Attorney at Law Sir Richard Cheltenham Ignores the Court

Has Sir Richard Lionel Cheltenham KA., KC, Ph.D been called by the Disciplinary Committee of the Barbados Bar Association for grave professional misconduct and is in breach of 22 of the clauses of the Legal Profession Act?

The Barbados legal eagle was ordered by the disciplinary Committee to submit a sworn affidavit to the complaint #31 0f 2020 and appear for the hearing of the complaint. How could such a case escape the media when other attorneys in breach with the same professional misconduct are being prosecuted and imprisoned?

Scott informed the committee that the Sir Richard, summoned called by this court, with status and authority of the High Court, will not be attending the second hearing in March.

The retiring elder King’s Counsel is to answer allegations which the Disciplinary Committee, on the face of the evidence and obvious breaches should be investigated. Evidence he gave in the High Court Suit 770 of 2008 by affidavit and later oral evidence in the trial are exceeding strong exhibits of his grave professional misconduct ordeal before the Committee.

Sir Richard failed to attend the first sitting last November and was represented by Alrick Scott KC. who with Ernest Jackman are cited in the complaint for serious misconduct that undermines the honor and integrity of the Registry and Judicial process. Scott informed the committee that the Sir Richard, summoned called by this court, with status and authority of the High Court, will not be attending the second hearing in March.

    @David, it would have been very useful if @4Justice was more forthcoming on exactly what is the “misconduct” alleged for Dr Cheltenham considering he or she took the time to highlight this case.

    The article currently is simply ‘sensational’ and panders to our base Bajan instinct of being ‘malicious’ … as there is nothing one can reasonably discuss other than throwing shade (like the comment that his brother is CJ and such)!

    The fact that the man did not attend the hearing or does not plan to attend another hearing is relevant only if he was mandated to attend despite the presence of his lawyer and refused! Is that what’s being alleged… then he can be fined and held in contempt like any other person if he breaks the law, fah sure.

    Anyhow, a nice lil addition to ‘Daze in our Courts’!

    The SC or KC is mere posturing from those with the title. It’s a recognition of seniority and long term skill primarily but of course has it links to political party affiliations, elite friendships and such. It guarantees higher fees and other perks at the bar …

    … so what is the bad-word long talk about WHICH puppeteer is pulling your strings! … Any lawyer grounded and self aware absolutely will change all letterheads and immediately designate his QC to SC based on our new Republican status … if he or she is NOT so grounded and still adores his status descriptions in ‘Who is Who’ legal magazines and the Societies in England and Commonwealth then he or she will continue as the CJ said to “anomalously remain QCs [KCs]” and be “the laughing stock of the world” because despite being “just proclaimed [ourself] a republic” dem still baziodeed by the royal BS!

    There is no such thing as Kings Counsel or Queens Counsel
    They do not exist

    Why are media houses not running this serial? For an attorney to be called by the Disciplinary Committee is a serious thing and for that attorney to be a KC is more serious.
