It is running more than 14 days since the IDB sponsored Science Test 11 year olds were coerced to complete. If one follows the newsfeeds the noise in the public space although fading continues to demand answers for the disrespect shown to children, parentss and actors in the school system. The kernel of dissatisfaction is the covert manner offensive questions were clandestinely inserted in the MOE/IDB sponsored Science Test.

The blogmaster has made his position known in an earlier blog – checks and balances were compromised at every step of the management process – which includes the Ministry of Education as the government agency responsible under our laws for administering education and the last defence, the management at the schools which without question allowed non school personnel for a period to assume responsibility for young children on different occasions.

See related blogs:

The blogmaster received the following communication which indicates there are concerned citizens prepared to deploy boots on the ground to ensure citizen advocacy is alive and well in the country. Is there a better cause for citizens to advocate?

Child Advocate Faith Marshall-Harris has publicly agreed what transpired by administering the Science Test with the offensive questions is tantamount to child abuse. She also tentatively confirmed the contentious test was administered on two other occasions. It should be obvious the information shared by Minister Kay McConney and Chief Education Officer was sanitised to protect parties responsible. Some of us are not stupid.

Here is the grouse of a lowly blogmaster. If we are serious about improving our governance framework; integral to the process is ensuring the public screams accountability when necessary. We must not permit elected officials with a mandate to serve us to continue with the prevailing mindset that the political class is in charge. This feeds the prevailing culture of the tail wagging the dog. For the apathetic mindset to change which characterises the majority of Barbadians, we MUST change. The blogmaster is hopeful the ongoing matter of how the IDB Science Tests were delivered to our children will be the trigger to signal all and sundry, enough is enough.

Another issue arising from the test is the ongoinging spat between Pollster, Moderator Peter Wickham and Starcom (VOB 92.9). Starcom should not allow Wickham to bully management. The station has the license (via the producer) to determine who should be allowed to contribute to the call in program. Wickham has the right to determine if he wants to continue as a moderator if the decision of the producer as agent of the station does not mesh with his expectations.

The blogmaster has tuned in to VOB callins that were moderated by Wickham several times when he fearlessly bullied callers who he is known to disagree, AND, was allowed – incorrectly so – to do so by producers who may have been intimidated by him. No doubt the station manager will have to carefully weigh the benefits of terminating Wickham’s contract with reaction from sponsors, existing and potential, who maybe offended if the station moves too far left or right of centre. In the same way Wickham is comfortable using the public airwaves as his bully pulpit to promote homosexuality others should be able to do the same without feeling verbally harassed and pressured.

Now, permit the blogmaster to be clear about HIS position on homosexuality. We have to accept diversity in the ecosystem, we exisit, we have to embrace what it takes to be an inclusive society. In the same way the blogmaster does not always agree with some comments/contributions posted by members of the BU community, the blogmaster at great personal sacrifice has had to defend the blog. That said, allow the blogmaster again to be clear that in his opinion the matter of sexual orientation is a binary matter. A human being is defined as a man or woman at birth, full stop.

To ensure good governance is seen to be practiced those who played a leadership role in the infamous IDB Survey must be disciplined. Too many times we the people have allowed foul ups, bleeps and blunders to go unpunished inflicted by successive governments who serve at our pleasure. Enough is enough!

  1. @NO

    The blogmaster’s point. To others who have suggested the PM had her hands on the decision, it doesn’t matter- the buck stops with the minister.

  2. @ CA
    We keep playing into the hands of people with agendas by speaking of LGBTQ+ lifestyles as if their relationships are so different from heterosexual ones that they are worthy of all this discussion and attention.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Actually they DO differ from heterosexual relationships.
    Not ONLY because the CREATOR (who made everything) says so. They differ because SYMBOLS matter in spiritual (REAL) life.
    Those few enlightened who get to understand the BIG picture of the PURPOSE of life on Earth can easily appreciate the diametrically OPPOSITE symbolism – one of LIFE and procreation, and the other of disease and INFERTILITY (DEATH).
    Significantly Symbolic!
    That the philosophy of DEATH has taken hold globally only reflects the current state of play – where the Creator has given up Brass Bowls to their own misguided desires, and the OTHER spiritual Forces (of Death) have taken control…
    Just look at … well …ANYTHING!!!
    The blogmaster’s point. To others who have suggested the PM had her hands on the decision, it doesn’t matter- the buck stops with the minister.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Basic common sense Boss!
    The PM CLEARLY micromanages every detail in every ministry – with the ministers acting like little shiite sheep with their heads up her skirt.
    It is INCONCEIVABLE that such a matter – with IDB connections, could have even been contemplated without going ‘missing in action’ (MIA) – Anyone with ANY doubt has to be ‘Enuff’ or ‘Lorenzo’ clones.
    Bushie would not even be surprised if the matter ORIGINATED from being ‘missing in action’….

    To YOUR point then, the buck only stops SYMBOLICALLY with the minister.
    So ‘ministers’ with BALLS would obviously walk away (think Johnny and Bostic) while those WITHOUT, will just suck it in, and keep on bleating…. like the rest we have…

    You MUST know how women think…. most just want to keep the big pick – FULL STOP – there is nothing about ‘principle’ or ‘ethics’ to consider, …till de dog dead.
    LOL the one Trust – that just drove the final nail in the British coffin was a classic….
    Skippa…
    If you want to see ANYTHING destroyed – put women or shiite men in charge …and just wait.

  4. Wait David!! … when do you sleep?

  5. @Bush Tea

    It is symbolic yes but the only way to effect change is for the Cabinet to grow balls. It starts with the ministers and wider parliamentary group.

    “Bushie would not even be surprised if the matter ORIGINATED from being ‘missing in action’….”

    yes it did, and she will not throw IDB under the bus without getting CRUSHED UNDER THOSE MASSIVE WHEELS that she commandeered herself… with her FAKE…”not bout here, children will not be used as guinea pigs” while well aware that SHE ENGINEERED IT….well aware she sits on IDB board and they could NOT PROCEED without her permission……and will NEVER ESCAPE Karma for what she did…and neither her pimps or fowls can free her from facing the music….ancestral drums already beat…

    It looks as if the questionnaire mess will also defy the laws of gravity and flow uphill; fingers are now beginning to point at Mia.

    The strategy of wishing it away is not working.

    The one good that has come from this is that local microphones and cameras no longer fear being grabbed or hijacked by Mia.

    Even with a weak Press she pulls the MIAS (Missing, Invisibile And Silent) stunt. Are there no world events where she can punch above her weight.

    I will explore the story itself later today.

    Here we see another line of fracture developing within the BLP. It may be time to say that 30-0 no longer holds. It may even be worse… Mia may be facing rejection by the party.

    I may have to start taking notes as I cannot recall the names of those who differ from the ‘party line’. We may be at as much as 6.

    My headline: As Mia dances on the world’s stage, the local stage is shrinking.

    Where did you go?

    My dear friend, there is much here that you can work with. Short news releases can be part of an effective campaign strategy.

    Please do not adopt the strategy of sleeping up to two minutes before the main event.

  15. Ronnie Yearwood’s best approach at the moment is to allow the public to make noise, the DLP will be the beneficiary from a political perspective. Sometimes doing nothing, saying nothing is effective. One does not have to bray 24/7. Yearwood’s priority is to continue to build and reconstruct the party.

  16. Here’S how I see myself.
    https://youtu.be/Q08en3EXfUU

  17. I hope Ronnie O is careful in who he takes advice from.

    We already have some asking what is his track record. Ronnie/ the DLP needs to be visible and to separate itself from the other parties. Appearing two minutes before midnight (like Verna did) is not acceptable.

    Walking and chewing gum at the same time is not an impossible act.

    Ronnie O
    Don’t fall for into that trap
    Listen to those who got your back

  18. He also needs to prioritize political strategy with a long game in mind. His priority is to build the backbone of the party to be perceived by the public as a credible alternative. Priority 1 , 2 , 3 etc.

  21. Last/last
    It is clear, even to the blind, that the BLP is in self-destruct mode.

    No coherent policy, arrogance, a succession of scams, big lies, wasted monies and everything that they touch turning to stone. The have given us their best shot and it has been horrible.

    God would have to smile on them for them to recover. The 25% that they received in 2022 may be not be enough and even smaller in 2027. Even the stalwarts are seeing the incompetence.

    The ‘lost decade’ vs the ‘bungled years’.

    Ronnie O needs to do two things (1) activate/ get out his base and (2) constantly highlight the numerous failings of the BLP.

    It’s funny how some believes in a manifesto in the run-up to an election. After an election, they say it doesn’t matter.

  22. Good morning David:

    There are errors on the poster. The letter “T” is used in place of the letter “F”. Is this a technical glitch or dyslexia?

    Can you please correct it. Thanks.

    A lovely Friday to you.

    The reason this matter is not going away is simple: children are not garbage trucks and buses and that’s the point. There really is no cover and it calls for decisive action , as others here and elsewhere , have said.
    This is not an issue that the current administration can say : it was done previously , therefore the duopoly blame game will not work. The deception took another turn in recent days , when we learned that the test or similar tests were executed in 2021. That information was apparently being suppressed.
    I don’t know about well off parents or poor parents when it comes to children; especially when they are young and vulnerable. I know only about parents love for their children. Sometimes it may be expressed in ways that we may not accept but there are no perfect parents and we all know there are no perfect children.
    The Prime Minister may get away with the political side of this issue as she has gotten away with every single misstep to date but the Ministry of Education is going to be under very close watch from
    now on and the slightest misstep in the future will be under serious scrutiny.
    The only way to avoid more discomfort and lack of confidence in the ministry is to remove the minister and send a very strong message that our children are not to be deceived and ambushed, under any circumstances.
    More to come
    Peace.

    I saw it and I have already pointed out that Barbados is not a 30x2x3 island.

    However, it is good of you to rush to condemn his way of thinking. I am disappointed that you made this decision only after he departed from the party line.

    As a party stalwart, defender and in the know, is my count of 6 possible defectors correct?

    The lesson here is … Don’t play with fire.

    The DLP needs to focus on demonstrating that they deserve one seat in the next election. Thus far I see nothing from any of them to convince me of that.

    I were the DLP, my message to the BLP would be simple. That paper was neither a survey nor was it solely a pre-test. We need an official explanation on what the purpose of the test was for given to the principals, teachers, students and parents directly involved followed by a public explanation to all of Barbados?

  29. I now look at this poster properly. Why is it a young boy and a man’s hands with blood on it looking to grab the boy? Why does is say “Say No To Comprehensive Sexuality Education”? I thought the issue was age and process? The religious cult is alive and well and looking to hoodwink Bajans. The imagery and text says it all!

  30. Critical Analyzer Avatar
    Critical Analyzer

    The BLP has a very poor crisis management strategy. One need only compare the COVID press conferences given in Barbados versus those given in Trinidad back during the pandemic.

    From day one when the story broke, the Minister and Chief Education officer should have called an immediate press conference to get ahead of it by saying words to the effect “Some troubling information has come to light regarding a pre-test administered at several schools that appears to have been more than a pre-test. We apologize and are currently investigating how it slipped through the established process and was allowed to occur.”

    If they had done that, they would all be sitting pretty now. But they keep demonstrating they have no crisis management strategy at all and will continue playing catch-up until they do.

  33. On my way out the following came to mind.

    Yesterday I disapproved of the stance taken by MR Prescod and I continue to do so today. However, his grumbling has given insight into the current administration decision process.

    There is no process.

    It is haughty and high-handed decisions coming down from Mount Olympus that is fracturing the harmony of the party.

    Though Mr Prescod’s position is strong and wrong, he makes some very good points. A grown, strong, proud and independent thinker cannot allow others to ram decisions down their throat. No discussion, and no warning, just a show of contempt and utter disrespect.

    TheO’s vote
    On his decision – Mr Prescod is 100% wrong. We are not a 30x2x3 island.
    On his fight for respect, his quest for information and his request to be treated as an adult – A+++

    We see how the Min of Ed could have been bypassed on this survey matter. It is now obvious that the Min of ED was caught flat-footed and by surprise, It would not surprise me if the Min of Ed has no more information than “I” have and are playing catch-up or just waiting for news to break. At this stage, I have nothing but sympathy for the Min of Ed

    Haughty and high-handedness should not be the demeanor of fools. Fools? Let’s get real..
    (1) on grabbing microphones, hopping on planes, blocking camera lens and making speeches… brilliant
    (1) on policy and processes – insanity, idiocy, sheer foolishness
    The smartest person in the room is not looking that smart.

  34. Speaking of distractions, I usually watch CBC Evening News when I am in Barbados, recently I started to watch from TO. Last night the first 10 minutes was consumed by the Minister in the Ministry of Finance (sounds like Orwell’s 1984) speaking of a ratings decision by an International Agency. it was so long winded that by the end beads of sweat was pouring down the Minister’s face. Next up was 2 “experts” talking about the demise of Liz Truss’s Government, this took another 10 minutes at which point I gave up and wondered if there no other news in Barbados.

    There is a saying “strike while the iron is hot” and the iron on culprits in the MOE is decidedly frigid at this stage, the Gov’t is comfortable in its 30-love mandate and no heads will roll. I am looking forward to more CBC news where I will learn of the upcoming BLP gala and the elevation of OSA to National Hero status as well as the awarding of those scholarships.

    Happy Viewing everyone.

    “However, in Barbados, we allow politicians from both sides of the divide to overstep and only hold them accountable during a general election. That should not be. Our system should be designed so that a politician who missteps, who takes the public’s trust for granted, or who does not fulfil a mandate or promise made to the electorate should do the right thing. That is where our governance system must be.

    We need not wait for the Integrity Legislation to be passed in Parliament.

    The ironic thing about integrity is that it is something that should not have to be policed. Integrity must come from within.

    No matter how high or low the post a politician occupies, doing the right thing should be par for the course. And in a case where the majority of the voting public is demanding that you go, simply do the right thing and, like Johnson and Truss, tender your resignation.”

    Locked in to brasstacks. It started well; the moderator is handling the Trevor Prescod issue in the same way I see it.

    I can now see why the folks complain about P Wickham. The moderators hold these callers on too damn long .. now discussing vOB
    a man who kills himself and THEN his family
    Liz Truss was PM for 6 months

    The guy is now attacking the moderator when he was on for four minutes more than he should be on

  41. Not going to give a running commentary
    A guy now complaining about cricket…
    He felt the cricketers should be made to swim from Australia back to Barbados
    A next guy stating that they should stop playing for about 10 years.
    A team from Kenya made up of farmers and wood cutters beat us
    It is funny

  42. Again, I can see why callers complain about P Wickham

    Callers can be extremely rude. The last caller should have been cut after several times. First asking questions before making his point and then being rude. People want to carry-on as they like and then treated with kid gloves.

    The DLP’s position is known. It is good John Citizens are leading the protest with the DLP riding the protest. Yearwood is intelligent to know the public will see the opportunism if he pursues vigorously. He has to be strategic with his public communications knowing that the general public in the main does not want this to be mired in the ‘political’.

    @William, the Blogmaster has a ‘new’ rating feature (at least I never noticed it before) and I considered using it re your post but realized that it was a quote from BT rather than your remarks…

    Thus I give that editor a ‘Very Poor’. The comments are simply righteous rhetoric which the writer KNOWS has not been a true and meaningful feature of political life for the last 20+ years … in NO country!

    Frankly, even if one identifies cases of political resignations during that 20+ year period invariably they are moreso being “pushed” out than the pol having a moment of deep integrity and regret for the bad acts and stepping aside.

    In Barbados all the political resignations I can recall were of the internal buss-up type (like Bostic or Toppin or with the NDP startup) … also, good sir, that an astute editor would suggest that the inability to “fulfil a mandate or promise” would be grounds to resign is quite remarkable. It’s one thing to suggest that the pol was lying or is being deceitful in making such promises but the fact is that simply the promise could not be done due to economic or other realities discovered after taken over the reins of governance.

    The sentiments are UNDERSTOOD but all in all still very much a rather trite, simplistic editorial! … politicians come from among us and I am not of the view that a majority of Bajans are today filled with deep integrity and decorum … thus no way will it be so for a majority or even most of the politicians !
