Submitted by D.Douglas Smith

A concerned group of citizens, as well as myself, continue to be shocked by the public comments of one Khaleel Kothdiwala, the individual who the prime minister tried to appoint to the senate, even though the constitution did not allow it.

Most recently he has hitched himself to the debacle at the ministry of education with the outrageous survey conducted in the schools. He claims to be a youth advocate, so how could he seek to defend the disgraceful survey? How can he be a youth advocate, while at the same time being totally blinded by his loyalty to the ruling regime? Who gave him that title? How could his judgement be so poor that he can support this terrible survey?

He has used his column in one of the local newspapers to peddle propaganda on behalf of the regime. He has defended the activities at Four Seasons raised by the Auditor-General, he voiced support for the regime’s agenda of debt, debt and more debt, and he has called for the interests of tourists to be put ahead of local people, while wanting locals to keep wearing their masks like good servants. Check his columns and you will notice a clear dislike for the majority of Barbadians and a complete blind loyalty to the regime and his hatred for the DLP and the other opposition.

Therefore, how can Barbadians feel comfortable that he is sitting on the committee to review the constitution? What are his qualifications to sit on that committee anyway? He has shown that his first interest is the regime, so how will the public feel that their concerns will be taken seriously by this young man, if those concerns do not line up with his regime’s agenda? What will happen to information collected by the committee? The Prime Minister must explain to the country why Kothdiwala is there, among other people who are generally well-qualified. What was the purpose of putting him there?

We demand that Kothdiwala be removed with immediate effect from the constitutional reform commission, in the interest of fairness. We call on Barbadians to boycott the commission until Kothdiwala is removed. They are asking the public to email them recommendations, we ask Barbadians to refrain from doing that until he is removed. If they ever get around to townhall meetings, we call on Barbadians to refuse to attend those events. He cannot stay.

The public demands that Kothdiwala must go!

On behalf of concerned Barbadians,

D. Douglas Smith

And so they will continue to do as there is no opposition, no press and no one else to question them.

Where there is an opportunity to question or pressure them, any attempt so to do breaks into a B and D argument after 30 comments.

If I was a politican based on the above lack of pressure for accountability I would make we shite! LOL

Cool you need to now move the comment box to the top as well so people don’t have to scroll pages to comment. This you will find adds to more fluid conversations and keeps the blog current to persons returning to comment.

    Again just a suggestion.

  4. Thanks John A, will investigate if it can be supported in the code.

Every 5 years black Bajans numbering over 100,000 are misled by politicians for their votes.

Less than 12 individuals who contribute daily on BU makes no difference.

BU has been around for I believe about 14 years.

The one’s that has benefit used their real names on BU mostly contributing whilst written articles and used as a vehicle for personal gain only. Commissong etc.

They are now silenced as a lamb having got what they wanted whilst the island is no better off..

Deal with reality and not you want in an ideal world which does not match what goes on locally.

  12. @ Norris

Sadly what you say is true but we must still use whatever format we can find to remind them they are our employees and not our masters.

I do agree with you though that Bajans are some of the most complacent persons on the planet.

Perhaps they are scared of the kind of leadership that would select an obvious juvenile upstart and push them ( even illegally) towards such critical roles at the most vulnerable point in national life.

Perhaps they are coming to realize that selection for leadership appears to be more about ‘pliability’ and ‘conformity to the supreme narrative’, ….. RATHER than about ability.

    More likely AC.
To reference Four Seasons, which was a tag team effort by both parties to defraud the taxpayers, and to mention debt, which the Froon group took to new levels, and the current group have no qualms adding to after defaulting to find ‘fiscal space’, is the style for which AC was infamous.
Since the remarks by KK on the current MoE guffah were neither quoted nor linked, an unsubstantiated dig is another AC specialty.

It is the first question the blogmaster asked- what KK said is captured on a talk show where he, Ronnie YEARWOOD and Jeff Broome participated last Friday.

In the West it is usually the custom to read from top to bottom and It is frustrating to be responding down here to a comment that is way up there. When the fresh commentare at the bottom, you can see them as you respond…

Hopefully, you can be persuaded to go back to the old way and to not put the comment box at the top.

  27. David Bu perhaps instead of DDouglas Smith the author should be Douglas Leopold Phillips since he comes over as a dem lackey. He really should speak for the dems and himself. As for Bush Tea i wonder if you felt the same way when the dems were trying to promote Mr Thompson as some political guru when all he was at that time in my view was a swert talker with nothing of substance.I remember when the dems wanted to see the back of Sir Lloyd / Mr Sandiford he was adamant that If he stepped down, Mr Thompson had to replace him.Imagine a political neophyte at the time leading Mr Greaves, Mr Taittor Dr Haynes. You had any problems back then? I doubt it, therefore what is your problem with khaleel now?

  34. I watched that famous first outting of David Thompson in recent years. I think people were more bamboozled by voice, look and manner that brought back memories of Tom Adams. I remember the rumour started circulating that he was Tom’s son. That was before the rumour started circulating that he was Errol Barrow’s son.

I doubt it had anything to do with the substance of what he said…..because there was little of that.

But Thompson went from hero to zero, didn’t he?

Khaleel will prove himself worthy or unworthy eventually. Right now there is nothing to disqualify him from the appointment however much some may disagree with his political preferences.

Frankly, I would have chosen the Krystal young lady whose last name I cannot remember. The one who is accountant and artist, logical and meticulous, yet creative and free-thinking. Great combination for the job at hand!

  35. David,

Is the last name Hoyte, perhaps? There was a video posted to BU once of an interview she did. Was it with that Morressy fellow?

Boy, too much crazy news for this aging brain to retain! The last six years of happenings have taken their toll.

  36. Donna you probably mean Krystal Howell. She built her reputation on attacking governance matters re Auditor General reports. Governments will be bearish about appointing her to important committees. How would it look?

  37. I thought this might interest you.

  38. Woke up this morning and there is not a single thought in my brain.

I turned my computer upside down but that did not solve the problem of reading from bottom to the top. You see, I like to follow the sequential order of things.

Yesterday, I thought I was hacked when 555 commented on a post (whistleblower) I made and the I scrolled down and saw the post. I was going to activate my vpn, use ccleaner to wipe out my history and then use norton to scan for viruses.

Then, I thought BU was hacked and whipped off a short note to the blogmaster. It was then I learnt that the order of the comments was changed so that we now had to read from the bottom to the top. I guess, I will have to live with it, but reading posts starting at the right and going to the left is a no-no.
(I can hear Donna and cuhdear saying “these old men know how to nag when they don’t get their way).

Now, what can I write about KK. Still drawing a blank.
Message to KK: KK you had enough Kool-Aid to send a post to BU…

    555, you up yet?

    Have a great day y’all

  39. David,

    Yes! Howell is the name.

Perhaps, you perhaps too much. You call it blinkered, I call it factual, logical and unafraid of being unpopular on BU. Fence sitting is the easiest thing to do.

  42. David,

Or maybe you’re thinking it would look as though she has been bought.

Wouldn’t look so if she continued her critiques as usual.

  43. @Donna

    Yes, idealistic.

  44. @Donna

To your last comment, the issue is that an independent commentator seems to become compromised once they accept a post sponsored by government.

  45. @Enuff

What was the outcome of the Thorne Commission?

  46. William Skinner Avatar

Independent commentators would only be compromised when it becomes obvious that they have lost their independence.
You are only independent when you become intellectually dishonest. Truly independent voices , in our society, are often marginalised because we expect them to compromise their deeply held ideologies and philosophies , to be part of the herd.
In short, our society , really has no place for truly independent voices.
    More to come.
    Peace

  47. “You are only independent when you become intellectually dishonest. “
    That should have been
You are only independent when you remain intellectually honest.
    My apologies.

  48. O Lord have mercy the duopoly man has got another brand new trope he is running with like it’s going out of style (a situation in which two suppliers dominate the market for a commodity or service).

    Intellectual Honesty Vs. Intellectual Dishonesty
Someone who makes arguments they know to be lies or fallacious or deceptive is intellectually dishonest. A dishonest partisan.
Intentionally committed fallacies in debates and reasoning are called intellectual dishonesty.
Intellectual dishonesty is advocacy of a position using arguments or data known to be fallacious (e.g. using straw man arguments, circular logic, guilt by association, appealing to fear, ridicule, or emotion instead of reason, etc.).
ONE OF THE MOST common ways to be intellectually dishonest in a debate is to dodge questions while pretending you’re answering them. You’re not telling a lie, …
Intellectual dishonesty is a failure to apply standards of rational evaluation that one is aware of, usually in a self-serving fashion

Both are true and that’s our problem in life today. There is limited interest in a rational, middle ground or reasonable compromise.

@David, the key word is highlighted in your remark that “… the issue is that an independent commentator seems to become compromised once they accept a post sponsored by government.”

Thus when @William responded “You are only independent when you remain intellectually honest” that too SEEMS almost impossible to achieve as NO ONE perceives that you have remained true to your convictions AFTER accepting a gov’t committee appointment!

If I come here and agree with anything Mia says than automatically I am a BLP yardfowl despite my shouted independence of belief …. and of course to harshly criticize the folly of the former admin marks you as the opposite!

To criticize FPOTUS on absurd lawlessness has the same effect … regardless of what critiques you give of Hunter Biden’s disgusting self-serving grift and too lawlessness!

It’s really unfortunate but there is no room again for honestly saying that crap is crap regardless of who does it!
