The blogmaster is pleased to hear more urgent discussions taking place about agreeing to protocols and logistics to have face to face classes resume between stakeholders. From anecdotal chatter the majority of parents seem supportive of the effort to restart. The one group offering some resistance seems to be the teacher’s unions.

A word to the teachers. This is a risk reward kind of situation. This is a cost benefit kind of situation. There will be a price to pay if the current way of teaching our children continues. There will be a social cost. If the class size is to large, split is and teach each group on alternate days BUT do some rh thing. The virus from all accounts will be with us for the foreseeable future, let us agree (without the long talk) how the physical plant will be changed to mitigate the risks at play.

Time to get on with it!

    And David what private you talking ’bout? Nothing is so private that a well constructed academic project cannot be created to determine the excess deaths. And notice I say “excess deaths” not cause of death. To simplify if 100 people ever the age of 80 died in May 2020 compared to 60 in May 2019, and 63 in May 2018 and 59 in May 2017absent a hurricane or other major catastrophic event, then excess deaths were likely caused by Covid.

    So here are the XS deaths for Barbados.

    Looks like only March 2021 was a problem.

    However, March 2021 was no big deal for COVID in Barbados so the spike must have been some other cause of death.

    So if we were to average the graph for XS deaths, we would see we have not had any XS deaths in Barbados.

    The conclusion is that of the 303 “Covid Deaths” recorded, 300+ were people who died WITH COVID and not of it.

    Here is what we look like when compared with Brazil which has had dreadful floods in the first half of last year and now again in the first half of this year.

    The impact of floods is obvious on the excess deaths in Brazil.

    Floods screw up the infrastructure of a country particularly the water supply as it allows sewage to mix with the potable water source.

    Any esoteric virus which may not have been in existence before can spread.

    If it were cholera or polio or some other known waterborne disease that was a problem in Brazil we would accept it.

    Some wicked body has developed COVID with a survivability way beyond normal as well as being lethal under some circumstances.

    They have done so at a time when weather cycles promote its spread.

    Barbados does not have a problem with excess deaths in the period for which data is available.

    We will have to wait to see what happens for the last few months.

    The recent floods at Petropolis in Brazil were deadly.

    But take a look at the terrain and the density of housing and you will see why disease is bound to spread in the wake of the disaster.

    Excess deaths must also be broken down by age groups and for such a small country as ours, we also need to look at it on both a percentage and numbers basis since numbers in some categories will be so small that an increase by 1 can cause a 100% increase and end up being misleading.

    Individual medical history is and should remain private information as how you choose to treat your ailments has nothing to do with me and how I choose to treat mine. However, there are ways and means of anonymizing, accumulating and presenting that private information to benefit the public.

    I have a huge problem when public health officials start using private information to make medical decisions on my behalf affecting my family’s livelihoods and medical health and we are to take their word they correctly interpreted said private data. When anyone seeks to make decisions that will impact my life especially medical health, I expect a proper explanation, access to the data, studies and articles used to form your recommendation.

    Our country has the most complete, comprehensive and robust COVID datasets in the entire world at our finger tips because of the unique centralized COVID management strategy we adopted from the start. We should have done much better with that data and still can.

    Most people ‘know not, and they know not that they know not’. So they go with the ‘information’ coming from the authorities.
    When these ‘authorities’ are FUNDED by nefarious cliques of evil multi-billionaires, even well-meaning governments (like Barbados) are CONSTRAINED to follow the narrative. (Have a PRIVATE chat with any intelligent local scientist and you will get a much more practical perspective than is their PUBLIC utterances).

    Good move to compare ‘covid’ deaths with ‘normal’ deaths to come up with EXCESS deaths.
    But ,..A BETTER move is to compare ‘current’ deaths with ‘STATISTICALLY NORMAL’ deaths, (which can be EASILY calculated given the KNOWN average life-span and the current population.)
    Bushie challenges you or Lyallsmall to put your graphical skills to use to illustrate this CRITICAL metric.
    This would throw a whole new light on the REAL problem that we face….. and the REAL CAUSE of that problem.

    Each country has its specific problems.

    Clearly Brazil is different with its flooding and dense urban populations.

    Geography and weather are against them.

    Here’s what Martinique and Guadeloupe look like when compared with Brazil.

    Except for the spike during their floods they have not done badly and their excess death % fluctuates around zero..

    You may remember when France sent medical teams to their departments in the Caribbean to help.

    Australia and New Zealand are quite interesting too.

    Flooding occurred there and cases rose but compared with Brazil, they have been relatively lucky where excess deaths are concerned.

    Two spikes in 2020 and currently on the way up which would appear to be bad.

    Now, here is the excess deaths of the two countries.

    You will see that the current excess deaths are not rising as the deaths due to COVID rises.

    They are falling like a rock.

    And those spikes in COVID deaths in 202, are not apparent in the excess deaths graphs.

    This anomaly may or may not be found in other countries.

    The other thing to look at is the excess deaths in Denmark are above zero during 2021, the year of the vaccines!!

    Your measure of ‘Excess deaths’ is a relative concept that assumes that the pre-covid situation as a baseline.
    In case we forget, PRE-Covid, our world was a MESS, racing towards the same chaotic end…. just at a slower pace.

    A more meaningful BASE POINT Of REFERENCE would be the STATISTICALLY NORMAL DEATH RATE, so that ‘excess deaths’ could be gauged versus what should be statistically NORMAL.
    …and even simple Simon can calculate the statistically normal rate – given the universally accepted average life span and the number of BBs awaiting our turns…

    The TRUTH always sets us free….

    Here are Japan and Brazil compared with Barbados thrown in for our perspective.

    Japan you can see is practically a flat line at or about 0% for excess deaths.

    Barbados has wilder fluctuations.

    Japan goes positive in 2021, coincidentally the year of the vaccinations but also the year of floods.

    From the graphs it looks like there are times when COVID deaths increasing has no impact on excess deaths and they can actually fall as they are doing across some countries.

    My current thinking is floods trump vaccinations and young people’s and children’s robust immunities.

    Now, here are the actual reported COVID deaths per million.

    You can see the surge Barbados Experienced after the floods in the 2021 wet season translate to excess deaths falling below 0%!!

    I would suggest that the reason is that people who died in this period were classified as dying of COVID when the really died with it.

    Sure there was a surge in cases, but COVID was not as lethal as reported in Barbados.

    Barbados has small numbers unlike Japan and Brazil so the fluctuations will be greater.
