The countdown to January 19, 2021 and so far Barbadians have been treated to a lackluster campaign. The biggest issue so far has been the lack of opportunity for Covid 19 infected patients to vote, that is until the strategic revelations from former Senator Lucille Moe last weekend.

For those who didn’t understand Moe’s prolong absences from the Senate, now we know. There was a plot to be hatched. The blogmaster deems her behaviour to be dishonest and unethical. She had a difference of opinion with the prime minister- or so it seems- and refused to take the honourable decision to resign. Mia Mottley is not blameless, ministers and senators serve at the pleasure of the prime minister, Moe should have been fired. The blogmaster gives no credence to feeble rebuttals that she submitted excuses to the President to the Senate. Citizens must continue to find ways to hold elected officials accountable. The struggle is real.

While the Moe plot appears to have fully delivered 2 days before the general elections, former minister of finance Chris Sinckler decided to enter the political space for the first time since the last general election in May, 2018. The stars have aligned and the winner is…?

At a time educated and sensible Barbadians should be consumed with exacting intelligible utterances from prospective representatives in parliament, instead we have been treated to the same old dog and pony show.

  • Have we has good explanations why six decades after independence we have been unable to enact and operationalize transparency and integrity legislation in Barbados?
  • Have we had good explanation why the NIS Scheme has been mismanaged by successive governments to the point where taxpayers will be asked to suffer more sacrifice to ensure its viability?
  • Have we had a good explanation why after the long talk about establishing a Creative Cultural Industries framework this sector remains uninspired and rudderless?
  • Have we had a good explanation why decades of Auditor General reports have been ignored by successive governments?
  • Have we had a good explanation why a small island developing state located in the idyllic tropical Caribbean has been unable to aggressively retrofit and integrate renewable energy by utilizing the natural resources of sun and wind?
  • Have we had an intelligent national debate about pensions for members of parliament and in particular the public service which is unfunded?
  • What about the urgent need for a comprehensive waste management strategy to align with the utterances about a commitment to the environment?

The point of this submission is to remind fellow Barbadians that we benefit from making smart decisions. If we continue to be mesmerized and entertained by the dog and pony shows performing to the same scripts, there will be no apotheoses.

I TOO AM AFRAID. WHY AREN’T YOU?
    By Margot Durant-Callender
    Former BLP candidate.

In 2010 when MAM was taken down as Opposition Leader some thought it was a bunch of men taking advantage of this “brilliant” person because she was a woman. Nobody wanted to believe that she was taken down because even then, she was abusing her power
In 2014 when Owen Arthur was pushed out (Yes, PUSHED OUT) of the Party he was a part of and led for so many years, few people had anything good to say about him. Nobody wanted to believe that MAM was AGAIN abusing her power.

In 2015 when Maria Agard, as a sitting member of Parliament, was unceremoniously kicked out of the Party, People said it was her own fault. Nobody wanted to acknowledge that this was MAM abusing her power AGAIN.

People were so enamoured with Aunty Mia that in 2018 they gave her absolute power and from day one she was like a pig in mud.
BLP members and/or supporters, you still continue to defend her actions even though deep down you know she is power-hungry, and will do everything possible to retain that power, from getting rid of those she considers threats to being so bold-faced as to tell Barbadians not to vote for an opposition.

Yes, you love the BLP as an institution; But MAM is NOT the BLP.
In her quest for power, will she destroy everything and everyone standing in her way? Ask yourself that question. Have you also ever stopped to consider the fact that she is slowly destroying your
    Be-Loved Party?

IT IS TIME TO SEND HER PACKING. GET A NEW LEADER. SHE IS NOT GOOD FOR THE BLP OR BARBADOS.

@David, what’s your view on the success of this challenge!!! …. Despite its obvious merit it seems unlikely to succeed likely. I don’t know how accurate the details shown in the Nation are but some words jumped out at me as legally a loser.. but the overall pleading is relevant and not a few words, surely.

But anyhow I found it strange that the plaintiff would call the President’s dissolution of Parliament “unauthorised, contrary to law and illegal; arbitrary, unreasonable, irrational, irregular and an improper exercise of discretion; that it was capricious, erroneous, an excess of jurisdiction, ultra vires and an abuse of power […]”

How is ANY of that possible if Ms. Mason, the honourable President, has been INSTRUCTED or ADVISED by the PM that for whatever reason a new election must be called and that is done within all the proper legal parameters! … I am not aware that the President has any legal authority to question such decisions by a PM.

Is it the election that should be challenged or the ‘draconian’ emergency measures – which could have been amended – that prevented those in isolation from voting ??? ….. This legal thing does give yah real headaches, in trute!

  22. @Dee Word

The President approved the writ using her wide discretion under the law. It is difficult to imagine how a judge may intervene by reversing her decision. We will know soon.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Blogmaster you do mean to say that “Moe should have been fired” like how Boris Johnson, the Covid partying animal, fired his ‘former’ very close mate Dominic Cummin(g)s?

Now who is telling the ‘truth’?

Is it MAM the big-bag lady with her big red sack of lies which has been recently sent back to the designer shop for a spring cleaning and refilling?

How can you bring charges against policymaking ministers when the Laws governing the management of public finances specifically exempt and insulate them, the politicians, from the distribution of the taxpayers’ funds?

How can you bring charges against your ‘fellow’ political class members without doing the same to the ‘colluding’ chief accounting officers of each SOE which has been the ‘victim’ of financial squandermania?

Or is it the diminutive Moe the disgruntled lieutenant smarting over a long bout of ‘non-political’ unrequited love?

Don’t you see some kind of trend emerging going back to the days of OSA and his female sidekick Maria?

Even our sorely-missed Piece de Prophet along with the vision of the Bush Tea sage saw on the horizon what is now appearing before our very eyes.

It’s really amazing how fast we are able to ‘fall for’ the decades-old outbursts from women claiming sexual abuse against celebrity men like poor Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby and, of more recent vintage, the randy prince Andrew but when it comes to ‘listening’ to cries of old abuses, in whichever form, from a Bajan woman against another Bajan wo(e)man we are overly quick to cry: ‘Wolf, wolf’!

  35. Miller,

I am inclined to believe because of my own experiences. Man, my son was even dropped from a primary school cricket team because I shot down his married coach’s advances. I was not even young at the time.

And just when I thought I was finally old enough to be safe, some old fart that used to live up your side ran his hand up my leg and thought my riding on a bus meant that I could be bought by some of his “English pension”.

I have been jumped by a married church member in his work office, nearly pulled my shirt off. I have kissed without warning by an old married fart in the church office, had my leg stroked by the priest in the church office and I could go on and on.

None of these advances were welcome. Caught me totally by surprise.

    Really sickening!

So….I tend to give the woman the benefit of the doubt.

I suspect Lawson is familiar with the Canadian experience.
Years back, since Canada is country of huge immigration from all over, it was fairly common, for a deceased person’s ID to be transferred to a living, but “illegal” community member.
