Miss Ram always find ways to be in the news mostly in an unfavourable light. Her latest flirt with the local newsfeed is that she has been exposed selling an unapproved, inferior off the shelf Covid 19 rapid test at her hardware store Builders Value Mart. A local press report quoted Miss Ram as saying:

Let me do my own research because I like to understand things. I will have to investigate because when I do certain things, I check first. I don’t know where the error has occurred, were they not known or what has come up. But if it is definitely banned and if they have done it, definitely it will go off the shelves right away.

Miss Ram
It is a Chinese manufactured product with the name COVID-19 (SARS-Cov-2) IgG/IgM Antibody Test Kits (Colloidal Gold).

It was drawn to the blogmaster’s attention the product highlighted below is the real macoy which is sold for about three times what Miss Ram is/was selling her inferior imitation.

The question on the lips of onlookers is – why would Miss Ram import Covid 19 rapid test kits during a pandemic without seeking approval or validation from the Ministry of Health? Whose side is she on besides greed?

  3. I am at a loss as to how customs could be so lax as to give clearance for this product to be released for use by the public.

Let me explain why. I placed an order with Amazon on September 14 for two items and they were delivered on September 20 to an express shipper in Miami for on-shipment to Barbados. They arrived in Barbados on September 28 and ONE ITEM was ready for collection on September 30.

Not so the second item that arrived here on the same date. It is still in customs awaiting processing. What is this highly controversial article that could be a threat to the health and safety of Barbadians? What is this article that requires 20 days (so far) of close inspection and deep dive background checks by customs before release? A pair of hair clippers!!! Now we are told that this Christmas will possibly be impacted negative negatively by supply chain problems. If it is taking over 20 days for customs to clear a pair of hair clippers in Sept/Oct, pray tell what will happen as we get closer to Christmas. This is the same customs that was unable to detect AK47’s and numerous rounds of ammunition a fee months ago and the same customs that sees it fit to allow the clearance of knock-off test kits to be released to a hardware store for sale to the public.

  4. @FearPlay

Miss Ram has all and sundry in her pocket, for years now.

  5. This is the first and last warning on this topic. If you do not have value to add scroll by.

  6. Are you suggesting that Customs may possibly be approachable and could be compromised? I highly doubt that. Isn’t that one of the reasons they are opposed to Security cameras in their areas of operation, because they are so trustworthy and above reproach?

  7. @FearPlay

    Has been compromised for years.

  8. “It is the minority criminals and the black-faced traitors in parliament”?

That more to your liking, David?

  9. @ Fearplay

To be fair to customs I don’t think they would of known the brands to refuse entry to. Truth is the brands permitted were heavily stated by government in their press releases. No one would expect someone to try and slip in unauthorised kits into the island after all that was done.

I think now the legally apponted distributors for these kits need to make a statement and let the consumers know what to look for. I saw in David’s opening he was able to publish with the Ram item a picture of what the real kit looks like. Also where is the FTC on this they are to protect us as well from persons like Ram

  10. @ angela cox

    I’ll REPEAT for your benefit.

The TRUTH. unlike milk, does not SOUR……… and DOES NOT automatically become a LIE, even if you call it “baffled bull shit” or me, “THE BIGGEST ARSE HOLE EVER.”

  11. @ John A

The FTC can only act when there is a complaint.

In other words, how and when officers from the Commission would’ve been aware of the issue, unless they were notified by someone?

  12. @John A

You mean in a pandemic there is not scope for customs officials to delay shipments pending clarification from the MOH/CMO?

  13. There are other things we have to watch for too. For example a doctor who does not want their name mentioned messaged me this morning and said someone is offering one of the legal test for sale on line, even though they are not the appointed distributor for them. When things like this happen there is no way of ensuring legitimacy so all these things we must watch for. The doctor said he reported it to the legal distributor and they told him they will take it from here and thank you.

It’s just that they will always be crabs out there looking for a quick buck and even in the best system of protection some will slip through. Who knows, next counterfeit vaccines may start popping up as has happened in the far East. This is the world we live in sadly.

  14. @John A

If you check Australia and New Zealand you see there are strict guidelines/laws about the use of Covid rapid test.

  15. @ Artax

Sorry yes you are correct hopefully by now complaint has been filed with them.

  16. Why are we unable to manage simple matters? We are experiencing a pandemic, a simple thing like regulating rapid tests distribution etc should be on someone’s checklist to educated/inform stakeholders including the public.

    #steupe

  17. @ David

What the doctor who is very senior and involved in the covid battle suggested was this.

Customs need to be given the companies and the brands they represent by providing a copy of the letter of distribution appointing them as sole distributor to customs. He feels once this is done the matter can be simply addressed
Time to plan for the scammers more aggressively.

  18. @John A

Why must we be always reactive? Covid 19 and rapid test kits have been discussed and managed by other countries for months. This is how best practices are developed.

  19. @ David.

So what we need to do is list the approved brands and next to them place the names of the appointed distributors. Look these guys with the real appointed brands compete buy they will all work with customs to protect the common good. Once this list is prepared then pass it to customs for enforcement. The distributors will all be asked to provide a copy of their letter of appointment as sole distributorship and then that info will be passed to the customs.

This is not a matter just for the customs but the cooperate sector needs to step up to the plate as well. The doctors know who the real players are but the public need help.

  20. 9:56 @John A “Who knows, next counterfeit vaccines may start popping up as has happened in the far East. ”…… and for the grace of God, may nearly have happen here. How come we are not getting more probing questions from the press and public about this fiasco that unfolded with the attempted purchase of Covid vaccines by a non-pharmaceutical company from another non-pharmaceutical company on behalf of three Caribbean government at seven time the published and controlled price? I will risk to bet that while it is claimed that “I have not paid a cent (yet)”, if this US$10M is not paid back to the individual, government contracts will be issued to cover and regain that money. Who will ultimately pay the price? The same old sorry jackasses. They are better known as taxpayers.

  21. FearPlay

Interesting comment. Just tuned in to VoB to listen to the discussion around a political light weight in John King. Governance issues are not sexy or salacious to grab the attention of the many nowadays.

  22. @ Fearplay

Yes that was a sad stain on us as a country. Astra made it clear they do not sell to parties other than governments that alone should of been enough to make people open their eyes.

I think it is just a matter of we all need to be our brothers keeper here and in so doing keep the vultures at bay! It’s just sad that people would pick covid to play this card on.

  23. Did you not state that she has all and sundry in her pockets?

So then, does it matter what systems are put in place?

The systems will have a “malfunction”.

  24. John King was demoted long time, wasn’t he? Should have seen it coming!

  25. Oh dear! CITE your source. Not SITE.

  26. I will not waste too much time on ” miss ram ” but there is a difference between hardware and Medical supplies.

  27. @ David

I don’t think we have a problem with usage and control at all. Government even went as far as saying that all doctors who issue travel certification had to be certified by goverment first. So even though doctors have practiced for years, goverment went the extra mile to request certification. I think they did a decent job there. Also remember if a company test internally say and finds a case, they then have to report that case to the ministry. We have enough Controls there but we fell down by not protecting our ports of entry by passing the brands and appointed distributors over to customs. Then again who would of thought someone would of tried to bypass all the publications made by government as to the permitted brands, then come with the lame excuse ” oh we didn’t know.”

  28. @Hants

To be fair to Miss Ram, her outlets are renown for stocking from wine to iodine .

  29. @ David,

It has been my good luck to never have set foot in any of her establishments.

  30. This COVID pressure is real serious if you are a GOB minister.

  33. If there is one thing that we have to admire about the CEO is the immeasurable amount of energy she has in being able to manage twenty-six (?) Ministries single-handedly. I mean how else would a US$11M order be initiated for a scarce medication without the knowledge or approval of the substantive minister for that ministry? Could this be the reason for the decision not to return to the political fray next election? Being an officer and a gentleman and having been steeped in the discipline of the command chain, would a commander worth his salt stand idly by while his command is subjugated to the whims of a senior officer without so much as the courtesy of a note? In a larger theatre, an immediate resignation would have been a more natural reaction but we live on a small island and it would not be in one’s best interest to antagonize those with greater power than oneself. Just a though considering the lack of public outrage and subsequent demand for a thorough explanation.

  34. @FearPlay surprise blogs like BU have not received ‘documents’ to keep this matter front and centre.

  35. Apparently turning Nelson around before removing him, was more important to this nation and generated more emotion. We all saw and are seeing what happened/is happening to America when Trump was not held accountable for small transgressions, they morphed into blatantly outrageous behavior.

Relying on “The Lord looks after fools” is a very dangerous mantra on which to run this country. The parents who does not discipline a child for doing wrong even if in appearance only, does not love the child. They are setting the child up for not taking responsibility and hence for taking greater and greater risks with possibly disastrous results. The Lord may one day tire of looking after fools if they make no attempt to look after themselves.

  36. @FearPlay

Like most things developing a culture of excellence in any sphere requires leadership at every level. What we are witnessing is competing cultures i.e. a clash of sub and counter cultures with mainstream. One suspects it will get worse, a lot worse before there is a realization amongst the majority a shared approach is required to pull things back.

  37. @Fearplay
If there is one thing that we have to admire about the CEO is the immeasurable amount of energy she has in being able to manage twenty-six (?) Ministries single-handedly.
    ++++++++
We shouldn’t be surprised, during the St.George N by-election the CEO said all things must pass through her, I noticed that during the last COVID presser not an individual was bold enough to ask about the Maloney deal, it was as if it never happened and two of the principals were present.

  38. ” Of course one look at the presentation and price would tell you them was a joke. I just Google a recognised brand to see what it sells for in the UK and the price was around $30 Barbados for a single test. So how the hell a real test could sell here for $6 bajan?? Lol”

Perhaps prices I the two memos were mixed up and there is no scam
    Vaccine $6 =>$48
    Test kits $30=>$6
    Perhaps vaccine 6
    Test kits 48

  39. @ Theo

    You too bad! Lol

  40. If it wasn’t so embarrassing we could really laugh at it. Anyhow heard Brown on the 12.30 news saying Antigua open from January to tourist once fully vaxxed with no further test or quarantine needed. Bring wunna pounds and come.

  41. “Things fall apart, the enter cannot hold”

We have the institutions and the ministries, but these are more decorative than functional; more apt to malfunction than to do the right thing and are more for our deception than for our protection.

It can be likened to Bizarro world or to a toy train with all the bells and whistles. It’s a parody of the Wild Wild West.

  42. Can someone explain to me how these inferior kits bypassed Customs, Port Health and the Department of Commerce without being detected.
How did they arrive… Air freight…Sea Freight…. or Suitcase Freight… just asking

    Religions come from the East
The West wanted to invent their own and opted for Christianity

When you go East to Asia there is a spiritual vibe that emanates from the culture that automatically filters into your dharma and no effort is required for spirituality as it is a natural phenomena

When you go to Africa you see and feel Mother Nature and are in awe

this won’t mean anything that will resonate with you if you have never been to either place for this experiential awakening
