  1. Last comment before noon.
Some pride themselves on accuracy, which is the correct course.

Others are just bowling (right or wrong) and others are just wicket keeping. I retired from wicket keeping and would have been just a cheerleader but was brought back by popular demand (Frank et al).

  2. Indoor air pollution is closely associated with health problems and exacerbation of asthmatic symptoms. However, it is difficult to find objective data regarding the nature of these illnesses and the degree of exposure necessary to elicit symptoms in building occupants. Clinicians must be encouraged to take seriously, and without bias, workers’ complaints about their work environment. However, this is often a problem because of subjective complaints, potential malingerers, mass hysteria, and lack of impartial clinical and laboratory findings. Clearly, in any building, a major priority must be to provide and maintain an environment conducive to occupant health and well-being. Allowable levels of air pollutants must be scientifically determined by health investigators based on government regulations. Unfortunately, regulations are often ill defined, unenforceable, and burdened by a void as to who is responsible for achieving a healthful indoor environment. The elucidation of the multiple causes of illnesses secondary to indoor air pollution can be addressed by greater attention to design, construction, and operation of buildings where people live and work. Finally and most important, the federal government should bear the responsibility for funding the necessary research to solve the nation’s indoor air quality problems.

  3. @ David

I read an article in today’s ‘Sunday Sun,’ in which it was reported the PM said, “We have 30 apartments and 40 rooms from hotels that have been identified.”

What some people seem to be purposely ignoring is “the BWU’s Labour College has already identified 20 rooms” and the Spiritual Baptist Church has also indicated that they have 16 furnished apartments.”

The PM also asked ANYONE who has apartments to come forward.

Do we know if the apartments and hotel rooms are being providing at full or discounted rates?

  5. If “detailed scientific proof that the building was sick” wasn’t done, then why was it vacated by the previous administration and the offices therein relocated because people were becoming sick?

  6. During the two-hour long press briefing, Minister of People Empowerment Cynthia Forde revealed that Government was seeking temporary accommodation for displaced people, a bill which Government would foot. She appealed to those with suitable rented accommodation to be part of the exercise, noting that close to 300 people need such assistance. However, the Prime Minister warned landlords that even though the taxpayers would be footing the bill, her administration would not stand for any attempt at profiteering during this time of adversity.
“We are aware that many of our hotels are empty and apartment hotels in particular because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are happy that this process has been started. At the moment the number of persons needing accommodation are 289, there are over 500 persons who are saying that in the initial short stages they can find something. We don’t know how many of them can stay where they are for an extended period but what we do know is that everybody in Barbados must have a shelter that wants shelter,” said Mottley.

  7. Would be of interest to know how much it cost to demolish the NiS building and who profited from the demolition
A year and a half later one gazes at an empty space and
Taxpayers money blown to bit and pieces

You are a bag of hot air.
And are clearly financially clueless for yesterday you told us the present govt was borrowing heavily (true) unlike the past govt (false). How do you think the BILLION $$$ deficits of 2013 and 2014 were funded? A gift from the fairy godmother!!!

The damage assessments will be far worse than anyone can see. Hopefully external funds for disaster relief have been found and will be tapped.

  15. The disaster clause will come in hand after all. The country was struggling to find a growth path for greater than 10 years, with COVID and Elsa where will it come from re growth to support foreign exchange earnings and employment.

  16. I am not a financial guru but this I know that present govt borrowing in a two year period has out paced past govt in a ten year period
Which should be of concern to all right thinking people

    Xxxxxc

Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley is questioning Government’s ability to repay its debt as the administration continues to borrow.

At the same time, Atherley is knocking the Mia Amor Mottley government for doing little to encourage growth in an environment where there are limited employment opportunities, particularly for university graduates.

Speaking in Parliament on Monday on the Appropriation Bill, 2021, the Leader of the Opposition said that Barbados’ debt service will total 800 plus million dollars in the coming financial year, in the absence of growth in the economy.

“You are talking about paying a high level of debt service in a given year in a specific context when there is nothing in the Barbadian economy that is suggestive of growth. We lament that Barbados struggles today to pay existing debt.

“We chastise the last administration for the levels of unproductive debt which allegedly they created, but we do the same thing against that backdrop, that reality that those who come behind us have to repay it,” he said.

Atherley pointed out that though the Central Bank Governor in a review in 2020 reported that the economy declined by 17 per cent, yet in a context of declining growth and economic constraints, Government incurred over $1 billion dollars in loans from international financial institutions

  17. GP2 has done a number of post with the titles beginning with the word “difficult conversations” as start of the title.
I’ve searched all of these conversation for the phrase “national disaster” and there is not one occurrence of it. I avoid listening to “talking heads” but I am left to wonder if those two words were ever uttered together by those in a leadership position.

“National emergency” is a warning and a call for a national response.

“National disaster” lies in the domain of difficult conversation. To some, “National disaster” is an admission of failure, a lack of national planning and words that cannot be mentioned. And yet, utterance of the phrase “National Disaster” is a call to action for a nation; a call for all of us to put our shoulders to the wheel and push together.

Some would see this disaster as a chance to get on the patriotic wagon and call for unity whilst maintaining their position on one side of the fence. Let me remind them, It is possible to stay on the other side and have the same level of patriotism, to have the same warm feeling of love for you country and for your fellow citizens.

Partisan Ideas and only blind allegiance to one side of the duopoly is what separate us; it is not the level of our love for our country. Don’t confuse yourself and others.

  18. David

Do you have the disaster clause at hand?

  20. As part of its debt restructuring a few years ago, Government included a natural disaster clause, which would allow for the capitalization of interest and suspension of debt payments on new bonds for two years, in the event that Barbados is adversely affected by a natural disaster such as flood, earthquake or tropical cyclone.

Lol…2 yr period to an average of 10? Why don’t you compare 2 yrs to 2 yrs? I suggest mid ’16-’18 to ’13-’14. All borrowoholics.
But wusser, try explaining WHERE all the borrowed funds went???
As long as the corruption continues, only cents on the dollar ever reach the stated goal.

  22. Barbados is in problems. There is no indication either political party has the will to force a relevant consumption behaviour by the people. If we do not earn/produce it means we have a problem.

  23. “Your comment does not directly ask a question but co- joins your ending comment to an opinion.”

    Hmmmmm……..

If a comment a ‘comment’ and a ‘question’…… a ‘question,’…………… then, how is it possible for a ‘question’ to become a “comment that does not directly ask a question” and then “co-joins to an opinion?”

It this some type of new English Language Arts?

  24. Mia strength is her ability to rise to the occasion. Her opponents should realize that when the game is on the line she will rise to the occasion and make the shot. For the covid-19 response, she managed (despite a stream of constant criticism) to assemble a team that was more than capable of successfully managing the crisis. As I look at her response for Elsa, it appears that she is again finding the right moves.

Needles to say, we should all wish her the very best.

I support the idea, that there are some issues where dividing ourselves into two or more groups is pointless.

    Go Mia.

  25. I see ‘Williams’ similarly to ‘COW,’ is ‘moving the earth to please.’

Only difference is, he’s doing so by ‘throwing stones from the sidelines.’

  26. Question to all: Yes, we had a hurricane, but thanks to Goddess Bim it only touched our island, if I may compare that with the massacre in the Bahamas. At least my garden got enough water.

Nevertheless, can our honourable government now activate the hurricane clause in the government bonds and suspend all payments until 2030? And what about the elections. Shouldn’t our government now tighten the emergency legislation (hurricane + Corona) and first suspend the elections until 2030? Aren’t human lives more important than playing democracy?

  27. I also wish Barbados the best
However at is present trajectory of Borrowing to make ends meets
The probability of Barbados making it to the award finish line in between low and zero

I gain or lose nothing by pleasing or displeasing others.
    I can wish Barbados/Mia/AC well.
    That’s a right.

  30. In the COVID response some see controlling of the citizens by govt as the right way forward for controlling the COVID never mind the COVID is still around
Others see a govt limitation of citizens rights while pumping large financial resources to the wealthy
    Where is the balance

After all I use MLK and other freedom fighters as examples who went against govt policies when placed on paper that spoke against their moral consciousness

  35. Listening to the Starcom Network news.

GRENVILLE PHILLIPS II say it cost $ 800 ( EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS ) in additional materials to make a roof resistant to a CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE.

  36. Yesterday PR presented hope
But look what the people are saying today

Dear politicians don’t walk around empty handed to watch me living in misery, walk with a care package, a generator to make my life easier.🤦‍♀️🙏😥

  37. Thanks Hants, even in the post Category 1 hurricane so much childishness: no wonder.

Ah guess they finally got REAL WORK to do for once in their no good lives…and taxpayers are paying them to bring solutions..

  43. It would be presumptuous of me to tell anyone who they should support or not. That’s their personal choice.

However, I’m a bit surprised someone would rather support an individual who, more often than not, misrepresents the truth on grounds of political expediency, simply “because he/she often has seven to eight bloggers ganging up on him/her,” as opposed to anyone presenting facts to substantiate their claims.

    But……. ‘to each his own.’

If the trajectory of these forecasted storms were to pass over Barbados in a similar vein to Elsa then we could be writing the last rites for Barbados.

Perhaps this is not the best time to become a republic.
