In recent days Barbadians have been expressing outrage in response to the report of a teenager at the Government Industrial School (GIS) recorded naked in solitary confinement. The blogmaster is acutely aware the danger of blogging about matters involving children given the inclination by some in Internet fora to be irresponsible.

Troubling to the blogmaster is the breach of the rights of the teenager occurred while under the care of government. It is not lost on the blogmaster that in other jurisdictions persons charged with the responsibility of managing the GIS would have tendered resignations forthwith.

There is no need for the blogmaster to be prolix sharing thoughts on the heinous act that has occurred at the GIS. It should never have happened. Successive governments by mediocre decision-making are responsible. Adults whether employed at the GIS or parents are responsible. The country is responsible for protecting our children. Faith Marshall-Harris is correct when she reminds us that adults have a moral and LEGAL duty to report incidents of child abuse to the authorities- even if the abuse occurred at a government institution responsible for enforcing the very rights of children.

The blogmaster congratulates children advocates who champion the rights of children every day, every week and all the time. Blogs have been posted over the years (not enough) to expose challenges children face in the country. The number of comments these types of blogs garner is always an indication of the level of public interest in these types of matters. Then there is a predictable reaction when the matter currently provoking rage occurs. We are reactive to the inevitable.

    I think we all knew that Marsha Hinds-Layne days were numbered as far as the board was concerned. She knew it as well. What she did not expect was that a slow thinking and lethargic minister who was unable to move a muscle over the span of two years could remove a board in the span of a few days. Lesson 1, boys and girls, nastiness and wickedness moves very quickly on the island.

    Marsha Hinds-Layne, a lesson in courage. Sacrificing herself for the benefits of others. She will also be surprised at the lack of support she will receive from fellow Barbadians

    Forget tourism, rice and peas, black pudding and souse or flying fish and coucou, the true love of Bajans is secrecy or silence in the face of wrong deeds. Speak out if they are doing wrong and see how spitefully clever they become as they try to continue their nastiness and, at the same time, drag it out of the spotlight.     Lesson 3, boys and girls, anytime two government entities share the same acronym (GIS), one of them is extremely wicked. I suspect the government Information Service may be the good guy here.

    Saw where someone said the new chairman stated she was starting with a clean slate and not based on hearsay. What on earth does that mean? All the cases we are hearing of will be discarded? Her knowledge of abuse at GIS starts from today? Did you see how quickly they “clean up that situation”. Minister making sure that a picture never ‘escape’ from Guantanamo and appointing a religious nut who will not listen to anyone.

    Richard Delisle Arthur, the brother of the late Prime Minister Professor Owen Arthur was today handed a $30,000 fine.
    Arthur of Maynards, St Peter, was found guilty by jurors for having 102 bullets back on January 31, 2012.
    Justice Randall Worrell said the mitigating factors including him being an upstanding member of society outweighed the sole aggravating factor of possessing the bullets.

    Magistrate Elwood Watts today granted a 43-year-old entrepreneur $7 500 bail in connection with nine offences.
    XXXXXXX is accused of damaging a gate belonging to Lloyd Brathwaite, a vehicle belonging to Lindell Earle and a vehicle belonging to Leon Wood. The offences are alleged to have occured on August 15.
    It is further alleged that on the same day he assaulted Roy Boyce, Lindell Earle and Winston Cox, occasioning him actual bodily harm.
    Alleyne, is also charged with using motor vehicle B-85 on Kendal Hill Road about 9:40 a.m. when it was not insured and he fraudulently used the plates B 85.
    The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges when he appeared before the Oistins Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

    The Judge obviously viewed the original charge by the girl of attacking a police officer as serious and applied bail accordingly. This should not be confused with what occurred at the GIS.

    The Judge on the High Court will make a decision on the merits of the case presented. Who do not like the decision can appeal. This is the system we operate under.

    This circumstance at the school sums up a society whose norms to solving difficulties as years to conforming to old methods that are attached to inhumane and barbaric method
    Hence for years child abuse was accepted in the homes and school as accepted form if punishment
    Children who grew up in those yesteryears can tell such stories

    In his speech yesterday Minister Abrahams said “I also wish from the outset to correct the notion that my annoyance over this issue was triggered more by it being made public than by it actually having occurred. Indeed, there were two equally vexing occurrences that still have me troubled and deeply hurt and dismayed to this day…”

    He explicitly said that the actions of the whistleblower are just as bad as the torture of a child for 13 days.

    This is so outrageous that he has brought the entire Cabinet into disrepute and must be dismissed from his post immediately.

    Minister Abrahams also said yesterday that he has confidence in the staff of the GIS facility in St Lucy.

    He has confidence in a staff that has been routinely torturing children by putting them naked in a concrete cell for solitary confinement in contravention of every professional notion of child care. He has confidence in staff that egregiously violated the:
    1. United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child,
    2. United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Administration of Juvenile Justice, and
    3. United Nations Rules for the Protection of Juveniles Deprived of their Liberty

    Did the staff members know that they were violating these rules? If no they are thereby proven to be grossly incompetent and must be summarily dismissed. If yes then they have shown themselves top be deeply evil and must be summarily dismissed.

    In either case it is abundantly clear that the staff who performed in this manner pose a clear and present danger to any and all children that remain in their care. Minister Abrahams has made an alarming error of judgement and has failed in his duty to the wards of the state at that facility.

    Minister Abrahams must be dismissed from Cabinet.

    If one understands Bajan society and strong desire to do evil things in secrecy, the ministers war on whistleblowers should have been expected.

    Here we have the train with all the bells and whistles, but, unfortunately, it is a toy train. One of the whistle worked as it should and the whistleblower was silenced.

    We have reviewed our grade of Minister Abrahams. Unlike CXC we have the courage to downgrade him.
    C- revised to a strong D+.
    His leadership capabilities are severely limited or non-existent and will lead to inaction and obscurification when leadership is required.
    At this level of performance, Mr Williams has demonstrated his ability to follow orders and to perform an effective cover-up.
    Recommendation:Leave in current position but monitor. Situation is a mess, but it is doubtful that he can worsen it. There is no need to sacrifice a next person in remedying this mess.

DID JUST THAT….the whole board was removed..

    SLAVERY AND STUPIDITY MUST BE VERY POWERFUL TO HAVE BLACK HUMANS PARTAKE IN THEIR OWN DEGRADATION AND SUPPRESSION.

    THE MINISTER IS REFLECTING HIS BOSS PRESIDENT MIA HENCE DISMISSAL OF WHISTLEBLOWERS AND KEEPING BUSINESS AS USUAL WHILST MAINTAINING THE STATUS QUO.

    ANY PUBLIC DISCOURSE IS JUST PR TO DEFLECT REALITY ON THE 2X3 FAILED ISLAND PUNCHING ABOVE ITS WEIGHT IN TAKING EVERY ONE FOR A FOOL.

    THIS INCIDENT BROUGHT BACK MEMORIES OF A YOUNG LADY I MET IN GRAZETTES HOUSING AREA OVER 10 YEARS AGO AND SHE WAS ABOUT 22 WHO MENTIONED THAT SHE HAD SPENT TIME PREVIOUSLY AT SAME GIS INSTITUTION.

    SHE MENTIONED THAT ALL THE GIRLS THERE DURING HER TIME OF ABOUT 2 YEARS BECAME LESBIANS EVEN IF NOT INCLINED.

    SHE ADMITTED THAT SHE ALSO LIKED GIRLS BECAUSE OF HER INDOCTRINATION WHILST THERE EVEN THOUGH SHE WASN’T THAT WAY BEFORE SHE WAS INCARCERATED THERE.

    SHE MENTIONED THAT IT WAS DAILY LESBIAN SEX AMONG THE FEMALES AND MANY OF THE GIRLS WERE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY SOME FEMALE STAFFERS WHO TOOK ADVANTAGE BECAUSE OF THEIR VULNERABILITY AND DEFENSELESS.

    SHE WAS A VERY ATTRACTIVE YOUNG LADY WHO SAID SHE ENDED UP THERE BECAUSE OF NEGLECT AT HOME AND HER LATER STEALING AS A VERY YOUNG TEENAGER.

    THERE IS A DEEP HISTORY OF COVERUP AT GIS AKA SUMMERVILLE WHICH SUITS THE DEPRAVITY OF MANY OF ITS ADULT STAFF MEMBERS WHO KNOW THAT THEY CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE YOUNG GIRLS WITH IMPUNITY.

    THERE ARE MATURE RATS RUNNING WILD FOR YEARS AMONG THE DEFENSELESS YOUNG CHICKS FROM ITS INCEPTION AND MANY YEARS LATER.

    Isn’t that the case with most issues in Barbados? You are advocating collective responsibility, who the hell are “all of us”? Who in the “all of us” were empowered to make decisions? When was this ventilated in a public forum before the crap hit the fan? Didn’t Ms. Hinds-Layne say she raised the matter with the Minister? Why point fingers in all directions?

    The failure in this is the Minister’s alone, the buck has to stop somewhere.

    we are ALL STILL WAITING for Mia to address the worldwide revolution she labeled “just a trend” after the George Floyd public execution…..as though it’s…nothing to see here folks, quite normal the everyday killing of black people, so let’s all just move on……we got racists and thieves to please and appease in Barbados..and ENRICH WITH BLACK PEOPLE’S MONEY….

    she’s still to address the racism practiced against the majority population on the island…by a tiny minority and let’s not forget all the thefts and the associated criminality….the reason why i still wonder why she mentioned anything on ITV London about the mentally enslaved on the island….if nothing is going to be done about it, unless it was an advert for slave masters,

    she’s still to address why the court process was INTERFERRED WITH to allow a white sexual predator tourist from UK to escape justice when he assaulted a grown Black lady who was recently widowed…..and let’s not forget the vicious racism displayed to Tiny Tempah at sandy lane hotel that they ALL TRIED TO COVER UP and LIE ABOUT….straight from the parliament…while ignorning that the Black population are entitled NOT TO BE VIOLATED through racism and discrimination by racists..

    i don’t even have to list all the other CRIMES AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE…that none in the parliament want to address, because it’s not as important to them as it is to their victims…the list is way too long AND GROWING…

    so what would make us think she cares about the abuse and violations of the human rights of Black/African children in Barbados or anywhere else..

    The buck stops with the minister there is no denying. The bigger point is that many wrongs can be righted in Barbados if ordinary members of the public exhibit the spleen to take a picture and make public even if anon, a public servant leaks a document to show unfair tender practice etc.

    THEY KNOW…although trying to pretend otherwise, that change is INEVITABLE and can be SEEN ON THE HORIZON…

    they can fight it, but WILL NOT WIN…

    no one can say i don’t give FOREWARNINGS…

    i can be vindictive and keep the info to myself, but am not vindictive by nature….and don’t carry hate…but will PUSH BACK if they try to stop the changes…

    Finally, I must commend PLT for his courage in speaking out on this matter, as one of the few publicly identified people on this blog he risks considerable repercussions on our small island.
