TO: The People of Barbados

We have contemplated this letter for some time but have restrained ourselves, believing that the behaviour would cease. However, we were listening to the Down to BrassTacks call-in show on Monday and we were once again assaulted by a contribution of the country’s most popular teenager, one Khaleel Kothdiwala. We recognized that this intervention is essential.

We hear many individuals in this country boldly proclaiming that Kothdiwala is headed to political office at the highest levels, most believing with certainty that he shall ascend to the office of Prime Minister. If this is the case, and he is to lead this country, we feel entitled to some answers to some vital questions.

We well remember his first public speech at the Lower Green some years ago, and the presence of two adults behind him on the stage, who we presume to have been his parents. At a cursory glance, one appears of African descent, and the other Indian. Does this ‘future leader’ of a nation of Blacks identify more as black or Indian? How do this self-identification affect his ability to lead?

Observing that he is partly-Indian, does he accept that many of his people have engaged in rank economic exploitation of black people by buying items and reselling to poor people at exorbitant mark-up? Is he ‘contrite’, as he likes to say, for this occurrence?

Is it true that young gentlemen attended an elite private school at the primary level, where most students are of wealthy, Caucasian extraction, meaning that he would have spent many of his formative years surrounded by rich whites? The entire country is aware that he now attends Queen’s College, considered to be an ‘intellectually elite’ grammar school. Does his and his parents’ choice of schooling show an implicit bias and elitism? Is he the best voice of the black working class?

We are reliably informed by several students at Queen’s College that he is universally-loved there and is in fact their Head Boy. We also know that he has many ‘fans’ in the wider Barbados, who adore his appearance on a CBC youth show and fawn over his various mouthings and writings. Does he recognise that having so many black people almost hero-worshipping someone who looks like him is problematic and unhealthy for the black psyche?

Kothdiwala is well-known for his rabid attacks on a black-led political party as well as notable, successful black people, such as Senator Caswell Franklyn, our hero of democracy. He is perhaps best known for his campaign against the CXC, a black-conceived and black-led regional institution. Does he believe it is healthy that almost his entire fame and popularity is based upon his attacks on black personalities and institutions?

This is not intended as an attack on the young boy. We will leave attacks to him. We merely would like the answers to some key questions that will allow us to determine if he is an acceptable candidate to lead Barbados. We await his response.

  1. Whoever plays the race card like the author, an obvious follower of the diabolical Burnham cult, is a high traitor. The Indians have given us 100,000 vaccine doses. Many more will come from there and save us. Guyana is ruled by an Indian-African government with the best relations with Barbados.

In Barbados it is unfortunate the case that some constantly whine about alleged or actual racial slurs from the minorities, but they themselves think in a manner that would do Cecil Rhodes, Idi Amin and Heinrich Himmler all honour.

The author is obviously a pathological racist and deserves to be tried in criminal court!

Fortunately, we have responsible politicians like our Most Honourable Prime Minister, Lord Marshal Dale and General Bosstic, who think sensibly and get us the vaccine from India.

  2. It would not have gone unnoticed since our independence that those who have governed us have gone out of their way to undermine the development of their majority black population.

Errol Barrow, who was an elitist, stated that the black conscious movement was not to be imported into the country.

The phrase too black, too strong, comes to mind. A mixed race person will always have more opportunities and a greater platform in Barbados.

I have no interest in discussing this side show. We need to focus on developing a nation that focuses and strengthens its black majority population.

  3. There are many Black racists who hate Indians and no are better than white racists and their racial psyops

David needs to raise Quality Control standards on BU to stop ignorance of mob rule via the net

  4. Politics is a nasty business. It does not matter Khaleel is a young man always respectful in his public interactions. He will be attacked because of his decision to become involved in politics. The fact he is mixed race creates an opportunity for some to exploit. If the blogmaster walked in his shoes the thing to do would be to ignore.

  5. @Kiki

The position of BU from inception has been to discuss uncomfortable subject matter. Use this type of discussion about race to attempt to address underlying issues. Hiding from it is to avoid it which gets us nowhere.

All agree we have an issue of race in Barbados whether it is crypto, covert or otherwise described. It exist and the only way to wrestle with it successfully is to openly discuss it.

  9. Was David Thompson mixed race or did he just have a black father and a white mother?

  10. @ Quaker John

Thompson was also a foreigner, he was born in the UK. But like most converts, he was more Barbadians than genuine Barbadians.

Follow RT on Anti-Asian sentiment is on the rise in the US, fanned by constant criticism of China over Covid-19 and its increasing global influence. Politicians must realise that legitimising hostility encourages racism.

America woke up today to the appalling news of shootings at massage parlors in Georgia that claimed the lives of eight people, including at least six female victims of Asian origin, four of whom were Korean Americans.

A suspect has since been arrested. The specifics behind the killings are still under investigation, although it is being claimed ‘sex addiction’ may be to blame. Early speculation, though, had suggested that anti-Asian racism may have been behind the slaughter, and even if that proves not to be the case, the very idea that it was being considered as a potential motive is alarming, but perhaps not surprising.

And we had the sheriff come to the mic and say quite casually by way of explanation that the killer was having a bad day and saw the elimination of these parlour workers as a way to fight his sex addiction. This, of course, shifts responsibility to the presumed Asian female sex worker who traditionally has had three strikes against them, being non-white, female and of “loose morals” . It had the effect of devaluing the lives of these victim by shifting at least some of the blame for their deaths to them.

I knew simply by hearing his words and observing his casual attitude that he is a bigot most vile. And just hours later a social media post was discovered in which he proudly hailed his new purchase – a tee-shirt bearing the slogan “COVID – imported from China”.

Though we all know that the statement is true, very few of us would see the need to wear it on a tee-shirt!

The young man Khaleel is strong enough to bear any attacks. However, I will not be one of the attackers on the basis of his mixed race or the schools his parents chose for him.

I will judge him instead by his words and actions.

If I have any suspicions of his allegiance based on his heritage, race or class that may or may not be legitimate, I will have the good sense to keep those biases to myself.

All will be revealed in good time to those who are discerning.

  19. @Donna

Agree with you wholeheartedly. Some on BU love to blow the dog whistle and believe in their simplistic way of thinking there will be no consequences. The boy was born in Barbados, went to school in Barbados and by extension enculturated in Barbados.

  20. The update to the previous comment is that Khaleel at his tender age has grown a political brand that outshines many others on both sides. He will have to get use to these kinds of attacks. The blogmaster is relatively comment sensible BU family members will offer constructive critique. Then there are the others.

    Transport shift
PRIVATE OPERATORS TO DRIVE TRANSIT SYSTEM – MINISTER
    by Randy Bennett
The days of Government continuing to heavily subsidize public transportation in Barbados are coming to an end.
That is according to Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources, Ian Gooding- Edghill, who today admitted Government could no longer carry that burden and would look to private operators to be largely responsible for transporting commuters across the island.
However, the minister gave the assurance it would not result in job losses for persons working at the Transport Board.
His comments came following a suggestion by Opposition Leader, Reverend Joseph Atherley that the time had come for the State to move out of providing commercial public transport and to become a regulator and facilitator of capital.
“We need to move away from the old model or the existing model of providing public transport services for the public of Barbados. We have a model in which the State subsidizes the operation of public transport vehicles to move the commuting public from point A to point B every day for several hours every day with some input from private operators.
“Dissuade me from the view that we need to see the State remove itself from providing public transport on a commercial basis, leaving that to private operators with the State providing a serious and significant regulatory function, in addition to the provision of the social service element of public transport,” Atherley suggested.
In his response during the 2021/2022 Estimates debate this afternoon where it was revealed his ministry would be allotted $110,164, 376 for the financial year starting April 1, Gooding-Edghill agreed that such a transition was required.
“The Government of Barbados continues to carry a substantial investment in public transport; the investment in electric vehicles plus the ongoing annual subsidy. Now the Government cannot continue to carry such a load and this is not a plan that will see persons being dislodged or being placed in a position of unemployment, that’s certainly not the plan, not at all.
“But what it does do is it will help enfranchise those workers who are working in public transport, who want to stay in public transport, by incentivizing those persons in such a way that the benefits will redound to them and exclusively to them and that they would have a right as a player in public transport to see the benefits of their labour and that is going to be factored in,” Gooding- Edghill told the Standing Finance Committee.
“The plan obviously that we have, we have to have discussions with all the partners involved. We have to discuss it with the unions, with all of the private operators and we’re going to do that and at that point when we commence discussions other plans will be announced.
“But certainly the plan that we envisage for public transport will not realize or see any persons being displaced in terms of unemployment. It will be a wholesome plan, but at the end of the day, the plan will result in the Government being freed up from carrying the substantial load that they currently carry. That money that we are currently losing could be used to help build out our infrastructure and to help pay for other social services that we need in Barbados.”
The minister revealed that among the plans was the establishment of a Mass Transit Authority.
He said the Transport Augmentation Programme [TAP] was a good example of a public-private partnership initiative.
“The Government of Barbados has commenced a programme looking and reviewing the whole concept of a Mass Transit Authority. The public transport sector in Barbados is worth in excess of $200 million and people do not stay in business if they are not making money.
“The TAP has proven to be a great enabler and contributor for the Transport Board in terms of allowing the Transport Board to increase its carrying capacity and that is going well with the 12.5 per cent fee they are paying to the Transport Board,” the minister explained.

    Well put, Donna!

How could the young fellow be held responsible for his racial background or schooling?

Didn’t the late David Thompson- originating from a similarly mixed ancestry- display similar inchoate ‘jumped-up’ tendencies of the ‘yellow’ political hue?

Despite his youthful exuberance, he, “KK” is naturally blessed with a good intellect, wit and outstanding oratory skills.

Talents which must be further honed if his still inchoate political ambitions are to be realized but only at the expense of growing a sense of humility and the wisdom to concede when he is wrong as in the ‘landmark’ case of Caswell vs. the ‘Red’ Administration in the “Two DCoP” legal affair.

KK must also learn and rather quickly- as he ‘graduates’ from one political ‘degree’ to another during his attendance at the university of life- that the only difference between the two sets of students making up the Bajan BDLP class is the colours of their campaign financing begging bowls which are used as whip-rounds especially at general elections examination time to maintain the status quo.

Maybe the ‘ghost’ writer is not really “Douglas Smith” but the reincarnated ‘Douglas Leopold Phillips’ (DLP).

A deceitful lying person and a bogeyman resuscitated to be the bedbug to the young ‘sleeping’ pretender to the Red throne trying to nip the potential political ‘baby’ enemy of a giant in his playpen for a bed.

Maybe the Douglas Smith writer is a fortune teller with a political crystal ball who can see the chosen ‘front man’ for the growing ethnic group of ‘shadows’ to control the economic and political affairs of a future Barbadoes.

    WHAT IS YOUR POINT?
IF YOU ARE OBJECTING TO THE DECISION OR WISH FOR “private operators to be largely responsible for transporting commuters across the island.” PLEASE KINDLY NOTE, OR RECALL THAT THIS WAS THE CASE PRIOR TO JANUARY 1969, WHEN YOUR DLP GOVERNMENT AT THE TIME, STARTED THE DISENFRANCHISEMENT OF THE PRIVATE PERSONS THAT RAN THE BUS SERVICE.

We do not practice verbal suppression here thankfully so, those that want to promote it can check with the Russian and Chinese embassy for immigration applications.

This is my final comment on this as the article really is not worthy of reading twice.

In this heightened period this noise about the young man could be considered dangerously problematic … but frankly the lad should smile and enjoy every moment of his viral notoriety!

This is really no worst than other times.

He seems to be solidly on the same track as one particular other popular teenager (precocious youthful politician, very popular at secondary school and Head Boy, a TV star and all dat) .

So if he achieves academic success -as that student did – then clearly he and his parents read the script from that era and are determined to replay that movie where the hero reaches his maximum potential politically!

I see only one problem: Other people can read that script too and in a flash of social media fame propel themselves to super stardom!😎

What a thing, this lil business we call life … these mixed race children of Bajan parents/grandparents who had either married non-Bajans or Bajans of a different hue and ‘just so’ the off-spring get this license to captivate and enthrall we Bajans … What a ting!🙈

We had Grantley and he son Tom, Errol and den de star boy model now recast in KK!

Yet this newest shining star got unwise men kerfuffulled … or as you suggest … got them real upset and concerned!

We really gotta stop this love affair with these flashy taking, bright fellas (and ladies), fah rea!😎

Let’s hope he is as charming as David, as forthright a team builder as Erroll, as practical as Tom, as accomodating as Grantley and as honest as … ahem Obama, maybe!

And if you dont like his politics then you can hope he is as ‘successful’ as another Bajan/nonBajan hot shot teen David Co.missiong was at ascending the political ladder!

Or that there is another star already studying his or her lines from the script given to them by ambitious parents!

    I gone.

Little John, we are proud of you to observe your ‘newly-embraced’ eclectic search for knowledge other than your limited and tarnished KJV for enlightenment.

Since you have been ‘referencing’ the temple teachings based on the life of the Buddha you must be aware that the faith called Buddhism has been around long before the dawn of your white manmade Christianity which is effectively a cult of Judaism morphed into European paganism

But keep up your childlike inquisitiveness. Some day you might just find yourself sitting under a Bajan tamarind tree and the Light might just shine through to remove those blindingly bigoted scales from your eyes.

  40. in Barbadoss and especially on BU we love to pull down and discredit those with obvious superior ability, and we support mediocrity.

One of the blessings of my life is to have been exposed from an early age to chaps who were as sharp or sharper than I was at HC and at UWI medical school.

I also had wonderful Bible teaching at a local baptist church , where I was not only taught the Bible, but how to study and teach it .

  41. Fred Hampton and KHALEEL KOTHDIWALA. Two precocious and two highly gifted young men separated by a couple of generations.

Fred representated his community and was a product of the USA; whilst Khaleel represents the face of a youthful Barbados.

    How times have changed.

  42. @Sargeant

Can you make this stuff up?

  43. “in Barbadoss and especially on BU we love to pull down and discredit those with obvious superior ability, and we support mediocrity.”

you seem to be saying that you see your own perceived brilliance in someone else and so he becomes a teacher’s pet as you relate to him as if he was your own, but would a top Barabdos student be a below average student in another country, this seems the case with Hal John and yourself

  44. I want to discuss the apparent but unproven barbaric treatment of black children/teenagers at the Industrial schools of grooming and pfp (preparation for ? ) but it appears that I am mistaken and that the stories I am hearing and reading could be excerpts from a fictional novel the title of which is tbd.

buh doan mine me. I does write bare shiite most of the time.

  45. re But the “LAD” is a Muslim!! He is no “David” or even Timothy, whether Jew or Christian.
SO WHAT? HAS HE DISPLAYED MUSLIM THOUGHT IN HIS SPECHES OR POLITICAL OR SOCIAL ACTIVISM.

SO “JUDGE RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT, AND NOT BY THE APPEARANCE” AS JESUS ENJOINS IN JOHN 7:24

RE According to your Judeo-Christian fundamentalist script of pure bigotry, shouldn’t you be describing the lad as a “SON OF SATAN” too?

NO SATAN, AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE LAD HAS NOT SO FAR DISPLAYED SUCH TENDENCIES

RE KK the koochie kid will stand on his own and be tempted and tested like your Isa during his journey through the political wilderness.

WELL GIVE HIM THE CHANCE TO DO SO, BEFORE NAILING HIM TO THE PROVERBIAL CROSS, BECAUSE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF HIS BIRTH.

GIVE HIM THE CHANCE TO RISE AND GROW AND DISPLAY WHAT LIES IN HIS HEART- WHETHER GOOD OR BAD.

THEN JUDGE. BUT AS JESUS TAUGHT YOU CAN NOT ADJUDICATE ACCURATELY WITHOUT ALL OF THE FACTS.

ONLY IDIOTS, AND SLANDERING DEVILS LIKE YOU, DO THAT

“Also remember when past govt brought into play present govt intention of going the privatisation route the denials were loud and hard”[quote]
And then we had BNTCL and Hilton !!!! When will you get it…B or D…same thing. Both LP’s.

“There is also Caves which by way of govt movements in handing over the Caves to new management would also be privatize”[quote]
Any idea how much taxpayer money was provided to the Caves annually? And they still lost money. If they were to raise taxes you would be first on here to cuss and scream about the ordinary Barbadian can’t tek no more. But still we want it both ways…low taxes and employment for all.

  47. RE GP I don’t see any private investor pumping money into that old broken down dead 🐴 called the Transport Board even if govt gave it away for free

    ANGELA COX
THAT WAS NOT THE POINT THAT I WAS MAKING….AND YOU KNOW IT.

LET ME REMIND YOU AGAIN THAT IT WAS THE DLP GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY, WHO AMALGAMATED MANY OF THE SMALL INDEPENDENT OR PRIVATE BUS COMPANIES IN 1969.
AT A LATER DATE THIS FOLLY WAS CONTINUED TO ITS PRESENT STATE

I AM NOT AN APOLOGIST FOR THE BLP, BUT IF THEY HAVE SOUGHT TO FIX THE CONTEMPORAY SITUATION THAT DESCENDED INTO THE PIT UNDER THE LAST DLP GOVERNMENT, WE OUGHT TO BE HONEST AND FIRST CONFESS AND ACCEPT THEIR ERROR.

CLEARLY THE CURRENT CROP OF CHIEFS FIND THEMSELVES BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. BUT SURELY, WE OUGHT NOT TO CRITICIZE ALL THE TIME IN A VACUUM JUST BECAUSE WE CAN.

CLEARLY ALSO, IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT THOSE OF YOUR PATHETIC ILK IN THE DLP ARE LACKING IN IDEAS TO FIX A PROBLEM, WHICH YOU STARTED IN 1969, AND EXARCERBATED BETWEEN 2008 & 2O18.

  48. RE would a top Barabdos student be a below average student in another country?

ACTUALLY, MANY VERY POOR AND WAY BELOW AVERAGE BAJAN STUDENTS HAVE DONE VERY WELL IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

I CAN LIST FOLK WHO WERE DOING VERY POORLY AT HOME THAT WENT ON TO DO VERY WELL ABROAD

  49. @ Hants,
I hear you. Sadly, black lives in Barbados are unimportant.

  50. @ GP March 18, 2021 10:02 AM

But, but Brother GP, who is doing the judging other than you who condemn all of us to the pits of hell unless they are Baptists like you?

Aren’t you judging people when you slanderously refer to the as the Sons and Daughters of Satan? Who has given you that right?

Who is always predicting the coming of some ‘Rapture’ to rupture the skies and kill off the entire humanity except born again in the blood of your Jesus Christ?

Aren’t Muslims, of whom KK is one, going to be major victims of your coming holocaust?

Who has been judging Obama, his wife and children, the PM Mottley the Prime W. and now Joe Biden and his “hoe” Harris?

You are nothing more than a lover of Satan hiding behind a veil of pretend Christianity.

If you were a real follower of Yeshua aka Isa you would exemplify his No.1 ‘Golden Rule’ in your good works instead of your wicked diatribes.

Next time you are looking in your mirror and your image appears just imagine you are seeing Pres. Shitbama as your picture perfect reflection with Kamala as your wife in the background.

So what about his (Yeshua) No.2 rule:
“Judge not, that you be not judged.
For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?”
