In the New Testament we see that all people need redemption, since they are all slaves, being all sold under sin and in spiritual bondage. Jesus made this abundantly clear to the Jewish leadership of his day (John 8:31-36).

The Coming of the Redeemer and the accomplishment of Redemption is recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in accordance to the teaching of Galatians 4:4 that in the fullness of time, God sent his son into the world to redeem a people for himself. The Fall of man established man’s desperate need for redemption, and God had carefully and thoroughly prepared the world for the coming of the Redeemer in the balance of the Old Testament.

The four gospels are the inspired eye-witness accounts of the life, death and resurrection of the Saviour. Christ came to reveal the glory of God in human flesh, “the image of the invisible God, pre-eminent over all creation” (Colossians 1:15). He came to proclaim the kingdom of God and teach us about the way of salvation (Matthew 3:2). He came to conquer Satan and to destroy his work (Col. 2:15; I John 3:8). But above all, he came to die for sins and to rise triumphantly from the grave to display his victory. He came to redeem us! (John 3:16,17).

  2. Concepts and the understanding of “who is God” has been on going from the beginning of time
The concepts have varied within differing races ages and periods of time
The bible has introduced and shown the references ideas and concepts and methods man has used in their quest to find God
Only modern man has used illogical terminology in their quest of finding and presenting God
Jesus when asked about God never gave a physical description but spoke in parables and spiritual terminology when asked of him as to who is God
One of my favourite parables and one which would bring a person to a closer understanding of God is the parable of the true vine
Also Jesus teachings of the fruits of the spirit clear and precise teachings with wholesome understanding of who God is
The roots of spiritual understanding are all found in the teachings of Jesus and are the keys to unlocking the mystery of God
All other religious babble clothed in theories laced with a rabid thirst to indoctrinate the mind makes for great tabloid story telling or folklore

  5. How to pray
Jesus disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray
Jesus exemplified by teaching them the Lords Pray
Once again religious babblers have invented their own version of pray
One invention is speaking in illiterate verbosity which they called speaking in tongues
Jesus example was straight forward and used his native language to demonstrate to his disciple a simple and easy way of talking to God
Hence the bible records the pray as The Lords pray which begins as Our Fathet
Today in many mainstream evangelical churches the Lords pray is never said
Instead versions of prays that asked of worldly things is uttered from many of the religious babblers mouths

So are mine . The prayers for the intangibles ,when answered give me the power to go get the tangibles for my self. Better still they open my eyes to see the tangibles that God has already provided.

  12. BY THE WAY THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT WE ARE TO PRAY ABOUT BOTH TANGIBLES AND INTANGIBLES

JESUS HIMSELF TAUGHT THIS IN THE GOSPELS

Here is a proper Pauline prayer from Philippians 3:8-14 for serious meditaion.

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

    10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Now how should the Jews pray?

The prayer/blessing according to Aaron as instructed by Moses?

Or the Lord’s prayer according to Jesus as narrated by Matthew?

  14. My comment is in reference to jesus teachings upon which Christians adhere in principal
The jews have the Torah which would be a guide in teaching them how to pray
Please note the Lord’s Pray invokes the Name Father reference to God
However what ever pathway the jews choose to pray most likely the Name God would be include as reverence and respect
Jesus being of the jewish faith the reference of Father /God would be one of the same as the jews

  15. My pray consist of three things
    Health strength and Knowledge
So far all three has worked to my advantage

Do you understand that Jesus was preaching to his fellow Jews and not Xtians?

Christianity is nothing more than an offshoot of a bastard cult of Judaism and married to Paganism.

How then should the Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists et al pray other than along the same lines which ask for those same three things you yourself ‘demand’ of God.

The book of HEbrews is not tye only book written about Paul

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I always assumed Paul wrote The Epistle to the Hebrews.

    For what its worth:

“The Epistle to the Hebrews of the Christian Bible is one of the New Testament books whose canonicity was disputed. Traditionally, Paul the Apostle was thought to be the author. However, since the third century this has been questioned, and the consensus among most modern scholars is that the author is unknown.”

There are many Epistles written by Paul so I assumed the Epistle to the Hebrews was also written by him.

No one seems to know according to google.

    https://overviewbible.com/pauline-epistles/

    Who were the Hebrews?

Weren’t they Christians in one of the many churches to whom Paul wrote?

eg. Corinthians (Church at Corinth), Ephesians (Church at Ephesus), Philippians (Church at Philippi), Romans (Church at Rome) etc. etc.

    Where did the Hebrews live?

  26. From what I remember of my Divinity classes in second form when we did The Acts of the Apostles, these were Christian Churches founded by them as they traveled through Greece and Asia Minor spreading the Word.

  33. JOHN
THE HEBREWS WERE JEWISH BELIEVERS WHO WERE CONSIDERING REVERTING TO JUDAISM
THE AUTHOR WROTE TO PERSUADE THEM AGAINST DOING SO
THIS IS ESSENTIALLY THE TEACHING OF HEBREWS

HERE IS AN OUTLINE ON HEBREWS BY ONE OF THE STALWARTS OF THE FAITH

    I. Christ better than Old Testament economy, Chapters 1 — 10

    A. Christ is superior to prophets, Chapter 1:1-3

    B. Christ is superior to angels, Chapters 1:4 — 2:18

    C. Christ is superior to Moses, Chapters 3:1 — 4:2

    D. Christ is superior to Joshua, Chapter 4:3-13

    E. Christ is superior to the Levitical priesthood, Chapters 4:14 — 7:28

    F. Christ as our High Priest ministers in superior sanctuary by better covenant built upon better promises, Chapters 8 — 10

HEBREWS TEACHES THAT CHRIST THE AUTHOR OF CHRISTIANITY IS SUPERIOR TO ALL THE MAJOR THINGS AND PEOPLE THAT CHARACTERIZED JUDAISM

NOTE THAT THE CHURCH STARTED AT JERUSALEM, AND AS ORDERED BY JESUS IN ACTS 1:8, THE CHURCH EXPANDED
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

IF YOU READ ACTS PROPERLY, YOU WILL SEE THAT PAUL ON HIS MISSIONARY JOURNEYS PREACHED TO THE JEWS FIRST. BUT MANY JEWS WERE CONVERTED
UNTIL THIS DAY THEY ARE JEWISH BELIEVERS
THE FINAL CONVERSION OF JEWS AT THE SECOND COMING IS ADDRESSED IN ROMANS 9-11 AND ALL OF THE PROPHETIC SCRIPTURES EXCEPT JONAH AND THE PSALMS

  34. @ John November 23, 2020 9:05 PM

What do you mean by Jewish Christians? Isn’t that a paradox?

Are the Jews of a separate ethnicity to Christians?

Isn’t being Jewish a religious label like being a Christian or Muslim of Hindu?

Can the blacks of Ethiopia be considered Jewish-Christians too?

Can we therefore have Jewish-Muslims living in Jerusalem today?

Neither GP nor you can explain why the same Jews, after 2,000 solar years, still do not recognize your Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah even though the idling and hiding in the White House Trump does see your Lord Master Jesus as the head of the white supremacist of the “Make America Great (Again)” bandwagon?

  35. HERE IS ANOTHER STALWART – JAMES GREY ON HEBREWS
Christianity is superior to Judaism as seen in its Founder, CHRIST.
The tempter is represented as urging that:
    – Judaism was introduced to the world by “the goodly fellowship of the prophets”! “Christ is
    superior to the prophets!”
    – Judaism was ministered to Israel through angels. “Christ is superior to the angels”!
    – Judaism owes its position to that mighty man, Moses. “But CHRIST is superior to Moses”!
    – Judaism is associated with the divinely instituted priesthood of Aaron. “Yes, but CHRIST is
    superior to Aaron”!

These are, so to speak, the four points of the discourse, but the whole revolves around the single
argument already indicated. And yet the apostle does not go straight on with his argument. He
makes a digression every once in a while, sometimes at the close of one division of his theme,
and sometimes in the middle of it, for the purpose of warning his hearers, for the purpose of
comforting them, or exhorting them to steadfastness in the Christian faith.
And this we shall see as we proceed.
    Outline

CHRIST is superior to the prophets (1:1-3).
He is so in seven particulars:
    He is GOD’s Son.
He is heir of all things.
    He made the worlds.
He is the express image of GOD.
    He upholds all things.
    He Himself purged our sins.
He is sat down at the right hand of GOD.
CHRIST is superior to the angels (1:4-2:18).
    (1) He has the more excellent name of Son (1:4,5).
    (2) He is worshiped by the angels (1:6).
    (3) He is Himself the Eternal GOD (l:7-12).
    (4) He is (as Mediator) awaiting the possession of the kingdom (1:13,14).
    (5) He is the ruler of the age to come (2:5-8).

It is in this division of our theme that we meet with the first of the digressions spoken of, one
occurring in the middle of the argument (2:1-4) and another at its close (2:9-18).
    – the first is in the way of warning,
    – the second in the way of comfort.
If the earlier dispensation, that of Judaism, punished every transgression, and disobedience, how
shall we escape if we neglect this greater light, the heavenly origin of which was so
unmistakably demonstrated by witnesses at once confirming and being themselves confirmed.
And then, on the other hand, think of your privileges, your exaltation to the position of
“brethren,” and your claims upon the Lord of glory as your true High-priest, faithful, merciful,
capable and sympathetic! Capable and sympathetic because He has suffered through persecution
just as you are suffering, He knows all about it and how to overcome it.
The student will notice how the inspired writer naturally and easily glides from one link in the
    chain of reasoning to another.
The testimony to CHRIST’s superiority to the prophets brought him face to face with CHRIST’s
present position at the right hand of the Majesty on high, above the angels, and this led to a
comparison with the angels. The comparison with the angels, in turn, leads to the statement
about CHRIST’s humanity and the qualification of priesthood it confers.
Ready is he now to enlarge upon that thought (3:1), only pausing to touch for a moment upon the
third division of his argument which now begins.

CHRIST is superior to Moses (3:1-4:13).
The comparison in this case runs in two parallel lines of two members each:
    (1) Moses a servant over GOD’s house (3:5).
    (2) CHRIST a Son over His own house (3:6).

That is an interesting phrase, “Whose house are we,” (v. 6), suggesting a simple plan for a
    fruitful sermon.
In what sense are believers’ CHRIST’s house?
He built them – “without him was not anything made that was made.”
He bought them – “Ye are not your own, for ye are bought with a price.”
He occupies them – “Ye in me and I in you.”

Here, as in the previous instance, we meet with a digression, first, of warning (3:7-4:13), and
then of comfort (4:14-16). The warning turns on the interpretation of that “rest” denied to GOD’s
Old Testament people because of disobedience, as recorded in Psalm 45. It is not the rest of
Canaan (4:8), but the rest of faith in CHRIST (4:4-10 compared with 3:14).
Under the head of the comfort in this case the writer recurs again to the theme of the priesthood
of CHRIST from which he had been diverted for the moment, and on which he now enlarges,
practically to the end of the Epistle.

CHRIST is superior to Aaron (4:14-10:39).
    (1) CHRIST is Himself a priest, a fact very necessary to be established if any comparison with
Aaron shall be made, and which, the writer establishes in two ways (5:1-10).

    – He is a priest because He possesses the capacity for sympathy (vv. 1-3), and
    – because He has received a divine appointment to that office as Aaron did (vv. 4-10).
The customary digression now follows in which the readers are exhorted (5:2-6:3), warned (6:4-
    8), and comforted (6:10-22).
    (2) CHRIST is a priest after a higher order than Aaron, viz: the order of Melchizedek (7:1-19).
This is a higher order because it is of a kingly type (v. 3), and of permanent duration (v. 3),
because Melchizedek received tithes from Aaron in the loins of Abraham (v. 6), and because he
blessed Abraham (v. 7). Moreover, the permanency of this order implies the abrogation of the
    Levitical law (vv. 11-17).
    (3) CHRIST is a priest made with an oath (7:20-22).
    (4) He is an unchangeable priest (7:23-25).
    (5) He is sinless (7:26-28).
    (6) He is a priest of a better covenant (chap. 8).
A better covenant because based on better promises. These promises are written on the heart, not
on tables of stone (v. 10); they are universal in their application and not limited to a single
people; and they bring forgiveness with them (v. 12).
    (7) He is a priest of a better tabernacle (chap. 9).
This tabernacle is not material in its structure, but spiritual (v. 11); it is not hallowed by the
blood of beasts, but by His own blood (v. 13); and it does not stand for temporary but eternal
    redemption (v. 12).
    (8) He is a priest of a better sacrifice (chap. 10).
He Himself is that sacrifice, the substance of which the Old Testament sacrifices were but the
shadow (vv. 1-9); a sacrifice necessary to be offered only once (vv. 10-18).
    The digression in this case, as in the preceding, is in the nature, first, of exhortation (vv. 19-25);
secondly, of warning (vv. 26.31); thirdly, of comfort (vv. 32-39).

Neither GP nor you can explain why the same Jews, after 2,000 solar years still do not recognize your Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah …

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If you can accept there can can be Greek Christians and Roman Christians there can be Jewish Christians.

Come to think of it, t I have some Jewish Valverde ancestors, buried in the synagogue, whose descendants became Jewish Christians.

I suspect one of them, Eleazar, was a Quaker in the late 17th century but chose to be buried in the burial ground around the Synagogue with his parents, Abraham and Jael who first came to Barbados in the 1680’s if memory serves me right.

He names Rachel Levi as his “Friend” in his will, a sure sign both were Quakers at the time of his writing of the will.

That would make them Jewish Christians.

Who knows, Abraham and Jael may have become Quakers before him and could also be termed Jewish Christians.

Seem to remember in their wills they asked to be buried with the peoples of the Hebrew nation, not Hebrew religion.

So, given my ancestry, would you consider me to be a Jewish Christian?

Regarding the last statement, nobody would even attempt to explain how the same Jews who lived 2000 years ago could be alive today!!

“So, given my ancestry, would you consider me to be a Jewish Christian?”
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

How about you being more a Jewish Quaker or Jewish Voodooist.

So let us simply label you as a Christian of Jewish cultural ancestry.

You are prosecuting your case for your paradox position in the same manner you have prosecuted the case against Trump losing the presidential elections even though your plaintiff has jumped off the elections-rigged sinking ship.

You cannot be praying in the synagogue to Yahweh while worshipping Jesus in a Christian church.

Yes, the same character Jesus whom the Jews recognize only as a rebel and over whom they chose Barabbas (his twin brother) to sacrifice to the Romans according to the Passion play.

As your good book said you cannot serve two masters.

You should note that your Saviour Jesus has no place in Jewish eschatology.

A Jew must become an apostate before becoming a Christian as many have done through the centuries to achieve access to political and economic power and social advancement like Cristóbal Colón (Christopher Columbus) and Benjamin Disraeli.

Even Saul the Greek-speaking Jew from Tarsus in Asia Minor had to renounce his brand of Judaism and stop his bounty hunting campaign against the Nazarene cult to preach his new found ‘fictitious’ faith.

Based on your same line of reasoning then you can become:

An Akhenaten fanatic-Jewish-Christian-Muslim-Voodoo-Hindu-Buddhist-Shintoist-Pagan-Fascist-Quaker-Mixedup Bajan Backra Johnny.

  41. Acts 11:26

“And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch

Who made the call for the disciples to be called Christains
When i read this paragraph questions of motive comes to mind
Reason being that the disciples never denounced them selves from being followers of Jesus who was a Jew
No where in the bible does it state that the disciples acknowledge the word Christian as part of the jewish faith
Cant imagine a disciple and a follower of Jesus calling himself a Christian

  42. Acts 11:26
    King James Version
26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So, Jewish Christians works just fine.

Since the Apostles were Jewish and became the first to be called Christians at Antioch then it follows that the Apostles were the first Jewish Christians, or Asian Christians, or Middle Eastern Christians.

As they spread the Word, more Jewish people, members of the Hebrew Nation, became Christians.

Greeks also became Christians so there were also Gentile Christians but I can’t remember ever seeing the phrase.

When I read the old wills from the 17th Century and saw the term “Hebrew Nation” something about the phrase struck me as worthy of more research.

Never got back to it but here it comes to me again.

I realise by asking to be buried among the people of the Hebrew Nation, early Jewish Barbadians might have been also saying they were Jewish Christians seeking to be buried among their people.

English Quakers in Barbados, some of the earliest Barbadian Christians often asked in their wills to be buried among their ancestors or children, which often meant somewhere in their Garden outside the front door.

Very often they asked to be buried in the churchyard beside their spouse.

The first Barbadian Christians would have been Puritans.

They would have led some of their slaves to Christianity before the Quakers arrived so the Quakers would have been the third set of Barbadians who could have been described as Barbadian Christians.

It clarifies alot for me as I was pretty sure early Jews in Barbados might also have converted and become Quakers/Christians but now I can easily defend that thesis if required so to do in a setting more scholarly than the BU rum shop.

I learnt something this morning, thanks all.

I’ll double check my references and confirm.

I also seem to remember the word Redeem used in some of those wills as a last testament to the testators faith.

Now that is worthy of some more attention.

  43. Christianity is one branch of the tree of humanity. Theology studies all faiths in all cultures such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism.

Metaphysics, philosophy, ontology, sociology, logic are tools in thinking to reconcile and understand the above.

Knowing yourself and the universe, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually is part of feeling the gross and subtle layers within you. Breathing deeply and exercising takes you out of your mind and into your body and should be daily practise.

  44. JOHN

THE FIRST CHRISTIANS WERE CLEARLY JEWISH AS IS CLEARLY SET OUT IN THE BOOK OF ACTS, WHETHER THEY WERE DISCIPLES FROM JUDAEA OR ITS ENVIRONS, OR THE SEVERAL HELLENISTIC JEWS OF THE DIASPORA WHO WERE CONVERTED ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST FOLLOWING PETER’S SERMON.

The first Barbadian Christians would have been Puritans. INDEED!

THE PURITANS WERE SO CALLED BECAUSE THEY SOUGHT TO DEPART FROM THE MALFEASANCE OF THE ESTABLISHED PERVERTIONS OF THE RC AND ANGLICAN CHURCHES

THE PURITANS BASICALLY SOUGHT TO FOLLOW BIBLICAL TRUTH,PURELY AND SO DID THE QUAKERS WHO WERE ALSO SOUND DOCTRINALLY, AND FOLLOWED A SIMPLE FORM OF CHURCH WORSHIP AND POLITY (note not policy)

BOTH OF THESE GROUPS LED TO THE BLITZ OF THE PLYMOUTH BRETHREN! WHO, ALAS UP TO THIS DAY CONTINUE TO DECLINE BECAUSE OF THEIR TENDENCY TO ENGAGE IN “FRATRICIDE.”

THIS PART OF CHURCH HISTORY INVOLVING THE PURITANS QUAKERS AND THE BRETHREN WHO MET IN DUBLIN, BRISTOL,AND PLYMOUTH IS EXTREMELY FASCINATION.

I RESEARCHED AND WROTE ABOUT THE BRETHREN IN MY MCEd dissertation. BUT THIS WEEKEND I GOT TO READ ABOUT THE GROUNDWORK LAID FOR THE BRETHREN BY BOTH THE PURITANS AND THE QUAKERS. VERY FASCINATING HISTORY

IF YOU COULD SET UP A SPECIAL E MAIL ADDRESS FOR THE PURPOSE I COULD SEND YOU THESE TWO WORKS
PERHAPS YOU SHOULD JOIN A BRETHREN GROUP ONE SUNDAY MORNING AT 11 AM (SAY DAYRELL’S RD GOSPEL HALL) JUST TO OBSERVE

SOME PROMINENT BAJANS STARTED OUT IN THE LOCAL OPEN BRETHREN ASSEMBLIES INCLUDING EX HEAD OF HC DR BELGRAVE WHO WAS BURIED LAST WEEK, AND HIS BROTHER IN LAW THE EX GOVERNER OF THE CENTRAL BANK.

DR MAYNARD WAS FORMERLY OF THE “CLOSED OR EXCLUSIVE” BRETHREN IS ANOTHER THAT COMES TO MIND

NOTE ALSO THAT THE MOST RECENT EDITION OF BAJAN THINGS IS OUT IN CASE YOU HAVE NOT YET SUBSCRIBED THERETO, HERE IS A LINK https://www.bajanthings.com/banja-in-barbados-and-its-influence-on-calypso-throughout-the-west-indies/

  45. A quick look at my Valverde notes has Aaron Valverde in his 1746 will, leaving 10 pounds to the poor of the Hebrew Nation.

  46. a follow up on my early comment
The word Christain is derived from the greek word Christianos Christos meaning Anointed one which would be an indication or form of respect in the manner by the gentiles church would have greeted the disciples when they visited them and understandably so

  47. Thanks for your offer GP, will see how I can work it out.

    Quakers are intriguing.

Many historians believe they were some miniscule oppressed minority faith in Barbados but I am finding the complete opposite.

It was their business acumen that built Barbados and contributed much to the building of America. They could not be members of the clergy, would not go into the armed services and were barred from universities so they applied their energies to business and God blessed their endeavours.

It is said Quakers came to America to do good and did extremely well!!

I read recently there was one university, the University of Edinburgh that did accept them but it only offered medicine. Many Quakers I come across in research were doctors and probably came through that university.

Their numbers dwindled as the 18th century progressed but burials of Quakers were taking place into the mid 1800’s in Barbados. At Alexandria in St. Lucy, close to Lamberts, was the site of their Pumpkin Hill Meeting Room, Alexandria I suspect because Alexandria was a port in Virginia with which Barbadian Quaker and Jewish merchants had connections through Speightstown.

Others existed in Bridgetown, St. Philip and Porey Spring.

What is now “St. Peter’s Cemetery”, apparently Anglican, was once a 14 acre site on which there was a Quaker Meeting House, Stable and Burying Ground.

It is referred to in the parochial register for St. Peter as the “Quaker Yard” and is also referred to as “Friends Plantations” on a 1680 map at Heathcott’s Bay. Heathcott was a very early (c. 1650) Barbadian family that became Quaker.

St. Peter and some other Anglican parochial parish registers only begin well into the 1700’s.

I reckon that was because few Barbadians were Anglicans, most were Quakers but some feel it is just they were lost to the vagaries of time.

Some historians are writing more about the early history of Quakers in the Atlantic World and realising that Barbados was the “Cradle of Truth” through which Quakers came to America. There are signatories to the American Declaration of Independence who have Barbadian Quaker roots.

Hard to imagine Barbados was referred to as “The Cradle of Truth” once upon a time.

  48. Talking about Speightstown there was a Jewish Synagogue there.

It is referred to in an early will.

Some efforts have been made to find it.

I suspect it may have been in someone’s house as were many Quaker Meetings.

  49. I look at the White Church as a blot on the history of humanity.
The Black Church and people brought it it’s spirituality.
I would also place all other other religions above the White Church.
As Miller says the source of life on Planet Earth is the Sun,
Whites have to avoid the source of life or they get burnt.
