We have repeatedly praised PM Mottley’s efforts in calming our nation during this COVID-19 event. We believe that she genuinely cares. That genuineness is evident in her press statements, to the extent that we may feel sympathy for her, for having to deliver bad news to us.

Barbadians are generally obeying her instructions. She says do and we did. We: closed our businesses, stayed away from our churches, did not visit our family and friends, and remained at home. This separation affected our emotional fragile, but we rally around each-other: virtually, on the phone, or across the yard.
Barbadians are generally a compliant people. That was proved with the successful implementation of the seat belt law in 2002. Some complied because of safety, while others feared the $500 fine, but we obeyed. That is why attempting to blame Barbadians for any part of this event is so wrong.
Whenever Governments make mistakes, they automatically blame the last administration. In Barbados, the Government continuously refers to the “lost decade”, in reference to the DLP’s management of the economy. This is an indicator of the number of mistakes that they are making.
No amount of public relations can believably blame the last administration for Government’s mistakes with COVID-19. So, to comply with the number one rule of modern politics (never accept blame), a scapegoat must be found.
The reason for the number one rule, is to prevent opposition parties from using such admissions in political advertisements. Solutions Barbados do not play those dirty games.
When operatives unreasonably attacked the DLP’s Chris Sinckler, UPP’s Lynette Eastmond, and BLP’s Mia Mottely, we defended them with facts. We may be temporary political competitors, but we are foremost, Barbadian brothers and sisters.
The Scapegoat.
But back to the scapegoat. The Government has blamed the public for: panic buying, not adhering to physical distancing, not staying at home, and listening to fake news. We are supposed to believe that Government’s mistakes are somehow our fault.
We are supposed to accept any further disruptions to our lives in silence. Now is not the time to complain – neither is later. Never is the only acceptable time to voice an independent thought.
The complying public should be allowed to express their opinions – without being swarmed by political operatives. We are designed to express our frustration with perceived injustices. Pent-up frustration is emotionally and physically unhealthy, and should never be encouraged by Governments.
Solutions Barbados intends to consistently give our best professional advice, whether it is accepted or not. Our advice to the Government at this time is simply to do what you were elected to do. That includes managing this COVID-19 event to the best of your ability.
What does that mean? It means: using available resources, considering alternate solutions, and stop blaming others for your mistakes.

Kudos to Mr Phllips…he has crystallized the WHO’s travel advisory quite ‘pellucidly’ … as my English teacher would have said

It’s been noted on other blogs that the WHO standard verbiage disapproving travel restrictions left them open to too much second guessing …but if they framed it as succinctly as he has done then it’s clear.

“The WTO recommend not closing land-type borders, where people can easily find a way AROUND the official points of entry. It is easier to trace people through the official entry points, than to have them enter the country undetected.”

And he then banged home his point that it DID NOT APPLY to Barbados!

Wisdom can be determined as carefully following your ‘doctor’s guidance on health matters’ but it’s clearly unwise and detrimental to your well being to follow guidance which is counter-factual to your UNDERLYING health issues!

According to the graph contact tracing started on the 20th. March. This is at odds with the claim made by the authorities who wanted persons to contact them, who had entered the island between 15 th.-22 nd. March 2020. Going by the graph, there is a-five day period when no tracing was done. This is at odds with the explanation put out by government,( wanting persons to contact it who fitted the time slot mentioned ) that it only wanted to check on them to see how they were doing.. It would seem that, it is the persons who fit the five-day slot who are causing a problem.

  5. Correction :The period is less than five days could be about 2-3 days

  6. Where I live.

“Ontario health officials have confirmed 564 new cases of COVID-19 in the province, along with 55 new deaths, the highest daily case increase and death toll reported since the outbreak began.

The province reported 514 new cases on Thursday and 494 new cases on Wednesday.

Friday’s announcement exceeds the previous record high daily case increase by 14 cases and is higher by four than the previously daily record increase in deaths ̶ the 51 lives lost on Wednesday.”

  7. @Dr. Lucas

The explanation given was that the authorities out of caution wanted to backtrack one week to cover off incoming traffic before testing started.

The salient point is if the relevant persons had to self isolate. If self isolation was done, given the fact that there seems to have been breaches( in the self-isolation) ,in the latter case problems must arise.

    A nice contribution, thank you!

    Three observations:

Do you really believe that the decision makers and society (which has to implement the decisions) will change? Weren’t there often enough good reasons to change course? I only say 2008, 2013, 2018, we always get the same thing: even higher taxes, even higher government spending on bureaucracy, even more controls and regulation, even more cruise ships to artificially boost tourist numbers.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Do not try to slip any wholesale right wing agenda by me. I am all about balance. There must be government, taxes, spending on bureaucracy, controls and regulations. We must constantly access and adjust as needed to maintain balance.

PS. As you can see I see no real need for “even more cruise ships to artificially boost tourist numbers”.

  13. @ David April 17, 2020 8:24 AM

I am pleased that the ISO-Taliban is joining the government line. We have no domestic problem with the Wuhan plague, only an imported problem. By the end of the month, the nightmare could be over.

The ISO-Taliban has correctly recognized that the government needs a plan for the time after that. It basically has three options.

First, to put permanent immigrants in a two-week quarantine. This will totally kill tourism and the economy and will drag us into the abyss.

Second, back to phase one. We risk a second wave of the Wuhan plague.

Or thirdly, a new, intelligent and selective solution: all arrivals are subjected to a rapid corona test before they are allowed to enter. Suspect cases are isolated. Those who pass the rapid test will be allowed to proceed to the party at Sandy Lane beach. Chinese people and people with a Chinese immigration background are not allowed to enter the island anymore because of the highest risk. This also applies to Chinese diplomats, business people and half-Chinese. So our leader has to find a new director for social media. I suggest Piece THE PROPHET.

PLEASE READ WHILE CORONAVIRUS HAS BEEN GOING ON BARBADOS CORRUPT ELITE INCLUDING THE PRIMINISTER HAS BEEN TRYING TO MOVE A BILLION DOLLAR KINGSLAND FAMILY TRUST FUND THAT THEY ALL STOLE

WILL BE LIVE ON THIS LATER .

I am a beneficiary along with my brother and sister John Knox and Kathleen Davis in my mother Marjorie Ilma Knox’s estate which includes her interest in our $1 billion family trust company Kingsland Estates Limited.

Our mother died penniless in 2017 in the USA having being granted US Citizenship. She fled her Barbados home in 2008 at the age of 86 years after she and her children received death and other frightening threats, were defamed and severely victimized.

We borrowed the money to fight for our rights through Peter Allard who took a mortgage on our mother’s shares in her family trust company and our own home in Barbados as collateral. The mortgages were drawn and prepared by Clarke Gittens & Farmer, David Gittens QC.

The Kingsland Estates Limited Family Trust Company matter has NEVER been a family dispute as has been falsely alleged in various courts inside and outside of Barbados including the Caribbean Court of Justice! It is blatant transnational organized crime/racketeering, money laundering, land fraud and corruption!

This matter involves tens of millions of dollars being laundered through numerous lawyers and “professionals” in various jurisdictions some via my trusting sister a citizen of the United States of America.

The senior Barbados counsel familiar with this matter to whom questions should be directed include Henry Forde QC, Alair Shepherd QC, Trevor Carmichael QC, Peter Evelyn QC, David Simmons QC, Philip Greaves QC, David Gittens QC, Stephen Farmer QC, Barry Gale QC, Elneth Kentish QC, Clyde Turney QC now deceased. Numerous professionals from Britain, the USA and Canada are also well aware of the details relating to this matter including Tom Klein CPA, New York, USA. Also taking responsibility for the ongoing Andefan 1993 court case in which all of our family trust assets were frozen are the Directors of Bannatyne Investments Limited.

Details relating to this criminal racket and conspiracy were communicated by email to the CCJ Registry: Mr. Nandlal Hardial; Court Registry Supervisor among numerous others.

In 1992 the Barbados Government granted permission to rezone all of the more than 1,040 acres of our family trust company lands from agriculture to development to a company called Thornbrook International Consultants Barbados Limited whose directors include David Gittens QC, Stephen Farmer QC and Brian Edward Turner (Canada) as part of a takeover bid by SBG Development Limited whose principals include David Simmons QC & Peter Simmons deceased (Attorney General and subsequently Chief Justice & High Commissioner to Britain respectively), Glyne Bannister and Philip Greaves QC (Deputy Prime Minister at that time).

Thornbrook was formed in the 1980’s just prior to the sale of a large tract of valuable, prime development Family Trust Company land on Fort George to the Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society for 50 cents per square foot.

In 1993 the Barbados Court granted a secret freezing order on all of our Family Trust property in favour of a company called Andefan Holding Limited (USA principals) which has an ongoing case in the Barbados courts since 1993, 27 years!

Over several years the Barbados Government acquired large tracts of family trust land valued in excess of $22 million and never paid our family trust company for the acquisitions. The proceeds from these acquisitions was to have been for the benefit of SBG.

Neither the rezoning of the land from agriculture for development nor the fact that there has been a Court granted freezing order on all of the family trust company lands since 1993 has been declared in any “Audits” prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers auditors for the family trust company whose legal representative is Barry Gale QC.

The details of the money owed by the Government to the family trust company was also never declared.

In fact, in spite of the various excessively delayed Barbados Court decisions and cases being tied up in court for more than 27 years the trust lands are being ILLEGALLY stripped and sold off at a fraction of their value. The lawyers responsible for drawing the fraudulent conveyances are none other that Clarke Gittens & Farmer i.e. David Gittens and Stephen Farmer of Thornbrook who are purporting now to represent the family trust company. The lands being illegally stripped include the lands on which the new Kooyman hardware store is located, Adams Castle Plantation (ask Barry Gale QC), 2 acres beachfront on Maxwell Coast Road (ask Barry Gale QC) among other large tracts of family trust land.

The recent court case which was heard by the CCJ relates to the fraudulent stripping of the various assets belonging to our family trust company and the purported “dividends” due to our mother’s estate which the Barbados court has ordered garnished, the same court which granted the 1993 secret freezing order on all of the family trust lands.

Some of the numerous Barbados court judges and Barbados Court of Appeal judges responsible for the excessive delays and painful oppression my family continues to endure in the Barbados court include Sandra Mason QC, Andrew Burgess and Marston Gibson.

ALL OF THE ORIGINAL FAMILY SHAREHOLDERS DIED IN POVERTY!

WHERE HAVE THE TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FROM THE STRIPPING/FLIPPING AND DEVELOPMENT OF OUR FAMILY TRUST LANDS GONE????????!!!!!!

Ask CIBC First Caribbean International Bank and the numerous other international banks involved.

  18. Exclusive: BME nurses ‘feel targeted’ to work on Covid-19 wards

    BME-male-nurse-web-620x330.jpg

The Covid-19 outbreak is putting a stark lens on the inequalities faced by nurses from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds, according to a diversity lead who warned that despite giving their lives to care for others, BME staff were being treated of a lesser value.

In an interview with Nursing Times, Carol Cooper, head of equality, diversity and human rights at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust, said BME nurses and healthcare assistants felt they were being picked to work on coronavirus wards more so than their white colleagues.

“BME staff feel that they are being put on Covid wards over and above their colleagues”

    Carol Cooper

Her comments come amid concerns that health and care professionals from BME backgrounds are overrepresented in the mortality figures from Covid-19.

“BME staff feel that they are being put on Covid wards and exposed to patients with Covid over and above their colleagues,” said Ms Cooper, who won Diversity and Inclusion Champion of the Year at the Nursing Times Workforce Summit and Awards 2019.
