I did not know what to make of last night’s [1 April 2020] announcement. We continue to treat this COVID-19 as a political exercise. In London and NYC the bodies pile up like after a heavy air raid. Not in Barbados. Our foreign commentators would do better to put on their gas masks instead of constantly nagging the legitimate government of Barbados.
Barbados has shown great international solidarity with the airlift to Northern Europe and Europe, while tribal chiefs in various holes have virtually imprisoned tourists for many weeks. We will not forget that. Barbados is civilisation. Other developing countries are real hell.
The small problems with the finances should not blind us to the fact that Barbados is a dream island. Goddess Bim has protected us in the past and will continue to protect us in the future.

SHOULDA COULDA but DIDN’T.
What matters is what is done STARTING TONIGHT.
Just before Christmas a few years ago the PM used to drive about giving food hampers to her elderly constituents.
Time for government to make Christmas in April for the elderly.

A couple weeks ago the laymen were insistent that Barbados is open for business and should remain so. That Barbados will be okay. That tourism is too important for us. That a shut down is too much. Some even said that there is no need to worry because most of the cases were “from outside”. Now, rather than having the ability to select a path to orderly shutdown; one has essentially been imposed.
I wonder what are they saying now? Who is advising the government?Another wasted opportunity. Given the chain of events up until about 3/4 weeks ago, Barbados really did not have to be in this position.
We can only hope for a short sharp peak now. -
Disorganisation, chaos, incompetence. Is this world class and punching above our weight? It is a disgrace. Flamboyant speeches, waffling on for three hours, are no solutions. Details, dear boy, details.
We need firm authoritative leadership. Leadership is not about speeches. The nation is like a rudderless ship. Cometh the hour, cometh the (wo)man.@ Hal they don’t like you, Waru or Baje because you guys are constantly in their faces exposing their incompetence and in some cases blatant dishonesty.
They have been successful over the years shutting people down locally, but Social media shows them up for how really morally bankrupt and deceitful they are.
Keep punching above your weight and don’t allow the detractors and dishonest Bajans make you guys lose your focus.

Seeing how the policemen are having to go out in the crowds unprotected is heart breaking
The situation is worst than the videos are showing
There are no words that can say enough that can explain how mass hysteria could have been avoidable
Cant see barbados and barbadians recovering any time soon from this devastation
The numbers would increase people would continue to hunker down
Govt would do the same ole thing making mistakes and excuses -
ALL POLITICIANS , BLP and DLP should buy food with their own money and deliver to their ” constituents “.

@ Dishonest Bajans
Thanks. This government is spectacularly incompetent. You just could not make it up. In May 2018, I celebrated with other Bajans the removal of the Stuart government. But better the Devil you know has never been more apt.
Leadership is not easy. It is hard. And long waffle, flaying hands, and repetition does not a good leader make. -
this falls squarely on the shoulders of the Acting MAM and whoever advised her. this is not the time to vacillate. you are locking down a country to prevent community spread, ok. you make an announcement that everything will close down save for some essential service inclusive of supermarkets. no big deal people have to eat. then the next day you change your mind and advise the public supermarkets will now be closed less than 24 hours before the lockdown.
then you dont anticipate the panic buying? you dont put security measures in place? now police with no personal protection gear trying to quell a hyped up crowd, what a recipe for disaster. look at the crowds? if the spread of virus was being slowed down, it is highly unlikely it is now. is there a point to the lock down now?
where are all the talk bird ministers?

“In London and NYC the bodies pile up like after a heavy air raid. Not in Barbados.”
dumbass…the virus follows a pattern, you really think the island can handle AN OUTBREAK…well the only reason there are no deaths YET..is because you have not reached the outbreak STAGE YET…this is the INFECTION AND SPREAD STAGE…
some of you should be ashamed to boast that you are educated, people would wonder WHERE…

The old people have a saying, “The hardest thing is to know [a person].”
This is why I always focus on the nature, character and personality of a person. It seems this government does not know the people. They cannot govern effectively unless they know the average Bajan.

Big time backfire!

Well worth repeating.
.”.ALL POLITICIANS , BLP and DLP should buy food with their own money and deliver to their ” constituents “.

that is what intelligent governments are doing, check what Rwanda did, they took responsibility for their people’s future food needs by delivering food and removing electricity bills..
.and they did not use any lowlife corrupt minorities who would use it as leverage to raid the treasury and pension fund like this BEGGARS CHARITY IS INTENDING…..the government is very incompetent and clueless….and showed everyone just how much…
Santia can be blamed for delivering the worthless news…but i believe this is a case of too many cooks…and every nuisance with a title trying to one up each other in a crisis…a damn pandemic…hence cockup galore..
people are sharing messages in NY asking why Barbados cannot get this right…

‘Act as though it’s going to be a lot longer’: American in Wuhan warns U.S. over lockdowns
An American who spent more than two months locked down in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus epidemic first emerged, is urging people back home to prepare for a lengthy interruption to their lives.
“Don’t go into this thinking it’s going to be over in a few weeks,” Benjamin Wilson told NBC News from his apartment in Wuhan where he and his family spent eight weeks in confinement.
After initially experiencing problems getting evacuated back to the U.S., Wilson, 38, chose to stay in the city where he has lived for more than 16 years, with his Chinese wife, Li Qin, and seven-year-old daughter Jasmin as it went into lockdown in late January.
For six out of the eight weeks that the family spent cooped up inside, they could not leave their apartment at all, relying on delivery services for their daily needs.
“No one would have anticipated that it would be this long,” said Wilson, originally from Alexandria, Louisiana.
Act as though it’s going to be a lot longer from the beginning — financially pace yourself, physically try to set up a routine, keep some kind of schedule with exercise, with your children’s education and just prepare for it to be a lot longer.”
For more than two months, Wuhan residents faced draconian restrictions, with all movement in, out and around the industrial city of 11 million people blocked.

@Greene
I said yesterday this woukd happen and was told the best thing to do is stand home.
I will bet that at 8 pm tonight there will still be people outside the supermarkets waiting to get in. It is then that people will be frustrated. All this could have been avoided I said yesterday, if we had called on the defence force to enforce that personal space was being practised. Again I was told this could not be done because of bla bla bla.
So Barbados now holds the record of being the only country that chose to close supermarkets for 2 weeks with less that 24 hours notice. Then they wonder why was their panic buying and so much chaos.
Wait wunna did expect different?
-
when it comes down to it bajans are rude, unmannerly and indiscipline in Bim. since the minibus culture hit Bim we have not recovered our discipline (i wonder if we really ever had any in the first place) and it seems all pleasant personal interactions generally have deteriorated ever since.
if you ask a question you are shouted at. the civil service is uncivil. we generally talk at each other and not to each other. if 2 people are in the bus stand they push to enter the bus. we hate to line up for anything and wait our turn. but outside Bim we are pleasant and patient. we dont cuss and carry on to police officers like we do in Bim.
that police job must be a v difficult task having to control unruly bajans and without support from politicians who seem to think their only job is to maintain the economic viability of Bim and not to speak to moral and behavioral issues that are on equal footing with our economic denigration. and this goes for all politicians Dees and Bees. this is something that needs addressing ASAP.
this crisis has brought that in sharp relief
-
@ Greene
I know what you mean. Savage, uncivilised, inexcusable behaviour. This is the 21st century, they must grow up.
-
JOHN A
stop being repeat what was said to why the defence force could not ENFORCE and why they are not call on to enforce today?
it was clearly stated to you that the defence force can ASSIST the police but they CANNOT ENFORCE.
LAW ENFORCEMENT for the law enforcement officers = POLICE.
You want MARTIAL LAW /government getting sue/ judges throwing out cases against the breakers
Or forget the above and tell me how or what the defence force would do if they encounter law breakers. they cannot arrest them so what can they do, shooth them?
-
John A, They also prohibited the selling of fresh vetegatables and ground provisions by the vegetable “man”. But however, kept open “the Village Shop” when we all know Village Shops of today are not Village Shops of yersteryear. Earlier Village shops sold salt meat and salt fish etc, Village Shops today sells Weed, lotto tickets, cell phone top ups, and Rum.
We in Barbados ended up in a case of – “Peter paid for Paul and, Paul paid for all” type of situation. They were some of us that stayed home and was not running to the Supermarket every day or couple of minutes that could have benefited from a top up, now we catching our asses for some items.
I don’t believe anyone would object to a shut down given the situation at hand, but the decision to close Supermarkets today was too blunt. I know of people whom they salaries have not reflected on their accounts as yet.
-
The merchant class and the incumbent party will in time be asked to give an account as to why they knowingly exposed their citizens to this devil virus. They were forewarned, yet foolishly dismissed those voices who pleaded with them of the dangers of maintaining a business as usual approach.
What we are currently witnessing is the shameful humiliation of the majority population. It would appear that they are being punished by the incumbent party; and as Waru alluded to, we could be witnessing a starvation policy aimed at weakening the resolve of the masses.
This is going to end very badly. The state appears to lack empathy for her people. And by raising the intimidation bar at such a high level indicates to me that this government and its advisors are clueless. The soon to be hungry masses will soon lose their patience.
This virus pandemic has reinforced the division between the elite and the masses and within good time will create irreparable fissures that will redefine a new Barbados heavily weighted in favour of her majority citizens as opposed to an elite minority.
-
@John2
The defence force would simply maintained a line and personal space so that what the video showed at popular would not have occurred.
Tell me something how many cases of covid you think were transmitted today in the chaos that was allowed to unfold?
It was poorly planned and the result was therefore inevitable. Up until now I supported the actions taken however after the seesaw of decisions between Wednesday and now my view has changed.
As you know I don’t fly no party flag and will congratulate them when they do well and blister them when they do nonesence. On top of that, trust me the chaos on this issue aint over yet either.
-
It is deeply unpatriotic and shameful how the grandees of the blue illegal opposition drag their own country through the mud and spread lies.
Hopefully our government will soon turn off the Internet to protect its citizens.
The decision to leave the airport open was the right one. We must not panic now, we simply have to stay in our mansions by the swimming pool for three or four weeks until Goddess Bin sweeps the plague away.
-
What a punishment a line about five miles long waiting to get into the supermarket
Then govt want people to be civilisedhttps://www.facebook.com/100024689922982/posts/673145280185130/
-
@ John 2
Before you tell me about defence force not police, the same way they rush and past laws yesterday or day before they could of included one’s to empower the defence force too, so as to provide assistance with the personal space observance.
Anyhow I going listen to the news tonight in case they change the mind again later bout something else.
-
The opposition is to blame for everything. From 2008 to 2018, the DLP signed numerous agreements with China, including the unchecked entry of Chinese citizens. There is a certain probability that the virus was already spread in Barbados during the Chinese New Year in early January due to the visa agreement signed by the DLP.
So if there are deaths, the opposition bears the exclusive responsibility!

Hear the whinners Bsje,Austin, Mariposa, Waru and Greene this is music to you all ears. What you all want now a medal? This is a first for most countries and most governments are following the advice of mefical personel. Therefore some things will go well others not and hence this is NOT A TIME FOR GLOATING BUT FOR ALL HANDS ON DECK.Stop behaving like 10 year olds and hope for the best for Barbados and bajans.
-
We have no exponential spread throughout the Caribbean, only a slight, linear one. So there’s no reason to panic.
Barbados is not Wuhan, Bergamo, London, NYC or any other shithole. Our citizens are disciplined, brave, and hygienically aware. Stop bad-mouthing the island.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some multimillionaires and billionaires from NYC and London went to Barbados because it is so safe here. Thank you for everything, dearest Mia!
-
The Defence force can instruct/ tell / inform etc etc….But they cannot ENFORCE any law, they need police
just viewed a video of a woman doing the dog while being arrested by a group of policemen
Cannot be done by the defense force. Ralph thorne would have the case thrown out within seconds and win the law suit for his client. he would have an easy payday.Anyhow I have not heard anything about the first infected being released yet. 14 days gone. anyone got any information?
any rumors? lol -

“This is why I always focus on the nature, character and personality of a person. It seems this government does not know the people. ”
But many of us know the government with their slimy, slick tricks, they knew that they cocked this up with their incompetence and arrogance, so who best to shift the blame to than the people, but it will not work this time, because everyone saw right away what they did…they knew their stupidity will cause chaos…they knew..
that is why they should never be forgiven at the polls in 2023, throw their asses out.
Bajans in the depressed areas need to grow their own food, they are being set up, stop enriching these supermarkets like the People’s Mart belonging to Seale… who had A WHITE’S ONLY shopping this morning and when the people said they needed to do their shopping too, they were threatened with police…stop enriching these bottomfeeding parasites, who would never have what they do without the same people from the depressed areas buying their overpriced junk…shut them down.
-
Trump blames Obama, Mia blames Stuart’s ten lost years. But we must not allow this medical procedure to give the president a free pass. She is captain. She must take the blame. If the government does wonders she will take the praise.
-
Don’t mind Lawsuit Lorenzo…when we were saying that the country should shut down weeks ago, let the thousands of tourists who were allowed to wander around the place leave the ships and go straight to the airports, this is the same IDIOT told us we did not know what we were talking about…now there are cruiseliners with dead bodies and infected passegers lined off on the US coastline, not a fella won’t let them in….
the island should have been shut down weeks ago, so the people would have had time to do their shopping, stock up and prepare, but the know it alls in government who showed the world that they know nothing at all….did the opposite and now more and more lives are at risk…
they are CURSED…must be all the dead people AND THEIR BENEFICIARIES they robbed over the decades HAUNTING THEM..

Here is my suggestion for effectively combating the plague:
Act for the Common Good
Article 1: The Ministry of Health may isolate all persons suffering from the Wuhan plague in special facilities suitable for this purpose as long as this is medically necessary. The Ministry of Health alone decides on the admission and release. Appeals to the courts are not permitted because of the danger of epidemic.
Article 2: The Ministry of Health may also take every other necessary measure to combat the Wuhan plague. Appeals to the courts are not permitted because of the danger of the epidemic.
Article 3: The Ministry of Health may, by way of administrative assistance, call upon the police, the military and the secret service. The use of force is permitted to the extent necessary to combat the epidemic from the point of view of the authorities.
Article 4: Statements that are likely to spread panic during the epidemic are punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine. The decision lies with the military court and requires the consent of the Ministry of Health.
Articel 5: If Parliament is no longer able to meet because of the Wuhan plague, or if more than thirty percent of the members of Parliament fall ill from the Wuhan plague, the Minister of Health may, instead of Parliament, pass all the laws necessary to combat the plague. The enacted laws are not open to any legal remedy.
Articel 6: The office of Senate is suspended for the duration of the epidemic.
Articel 7: The Ministry of Health decides whether and when this act should be repealed.
Article 8: The offices of Prime Minister and Minister of Health shall be merged for the duration of the epidemic.

It may be nothing like some of you have said , but just in case all that crowding at the supermarkets and the total disreguard to isolate and distance by people. Does anybody have a plan to who we deny the limited amount of medical appiances to. Will it be old vs young , black vs white,( where do Asians and Guyanese fit in) politician vs public or the good old stand by rich vs poor.

“Rick and Wendy de Pinho woke up just before sunrise Thursday morning Cabin 7018 aboard the Rotterdam cruise ship, one of two ill-fated Holland America ships that have been stranded at sea for the past 19 days after South American ports denied their entry due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Though they couldn’t see land from their balcony, but could see a handful of other ships in the area. Their GPS and cruise tracker confirmed that they were anchored just off the coast of South Florida.”
These are not the only cruise ships lined up off the coast of Florida, i saw the photos of a bunch of them with my own eyes…any falsehoods coming are from you…it’s been days the media have been letting people know what is going on, one cruiseship has 4 dead bodies and trying to land……the others have many infected people and also trying to land..
For those who believe that because people are infected and no deaths yet, and it will stay that way…ya living in a fools paradise…
.https://www.nationnews.com/nationnews/news/244784/virus-death-bahamas
“NASSAU – The death of a 57-year-old woman from the island of Bimini has been attributed to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, who made the announcement during a press conference late Wednesday, said Kim Johnson-Rolle, who died on Monday, tested postive for the virus – becoming the country’s first victim.
Minnis offered his condolences to her familly, including her brother, Immigration Minister Elsworth Johnson.
The Prime Minister also revealed that there are six new cases of COVID-19 in New Providence, brining the total number of confirmed cases to 21 – with three cases in Grand Bahama.”
-
Two hours more before the curfew ends and people still draped outside and around supermarkets
I wonder if Mia seen the madness she created -
JohnA or 2…keep making a fool of yaself, ya making me look good..
….and a few of those ships have American passengers on board, but it makes no difference, the governor just does not want the headache….and was very vocal too, last i heard and that was yesterday, they are still trying to reach a solution to get the people off and flown home, one ship has hundreds of Canadian on board..
ya think that is Barbados where ya can hide everything….. or used to be able to anyway.
-
Look…they can even update you because they have a real media and a real local government that is competent and know what they are doing…
“Still, according to the Port Everglades website, Rotterdam is now slated to arrive at 4:30, 30 minutes behind the Zaandam. Previously the ships had been expected to dock at 1 and 1:30.
On Fox News Thursday morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis said the cruise company had come to an agreement that Floridians onboard the two ships will be able to return home with help of the Florida National Guard. Foreign nationals will be bussed to an airport and put on flights back to their home countries. It was not clear what would happen to U.S. residents living elsewhere, but a spokesman for Holland America parent Carnival Corp. said Wednesday it had plans to deliver those passengers to their home cities.
“It’s all going to be done in a way as to not expose the people of Florida to the illnesses … you got to be safe when doing this stuff,” he said. “They can’t just release them into the general public.”

BARBADOS SCARE MONGER IN CHIEF
We have this acting PM trying to sound strong yet cowering in fear and taking away the hope of all within the sound of her voice. As usual doing what politicians do, trying to jinn up our emotion for us to do what she says. Now that hope is taken away and we are left cowering in a corner and now comes the final swing of the sword. “A person who contravenes this Directive without reasonable explanation, is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $50,000 or to imprisonment for a term of one year or to both pursuant to paragraph 15(1) of the Emergency Management (COVID-19) Order, 2020.”
If you do not do what I say you would be fined $50,000.00 and if you feel you could pay that well we would lock you up for a year so “Tek Dat.”
It was hope that sustained us during the last administration to elect this admin. It was hope that we have endured BERT yet this acting PM has proclaimed “that future is calamitous”…“We are absolute in our resolve that this must not and will not be the future for Barbados”. YET HAVE IMPOSED HOPELESSNESS ON BARBADOS WHILE CLAIMING TO SAVE US.
What the DLP could not have accomplished she has single-handily done. People without hope have nothing to live for she above all people should know this, she is a living testament of hope (as a Cancer survivor) yet she is denying it to her fellow countrymen. (Is it my imagination or was she smug when she was delivering her address).
Please we want back the real Prime Minister she was the one elected all-0. The acting PM said this was more than an epidemic it was worse than a pandemic she called it a “tsunami”. The normal flu in Barbados kill more than what the “tsunami” has done which so far is Zero and can stay Zero with the cocktail of drugs that is showing promise (hope). Hope is a powerful thing it “is no joke!”
Fear is the opposite of Hope. If she believes what she says I feel dismayed for her, her life must be unbearable living with all that fear.

I will continue to look good, since your idea of logic never seems to match up TO REALITY…especially to what the media has reported about those same ships….lol

SHIFTING ….. who said anything about florida releasing any passengers or releasing all at one time .
ur point was that the ships were stranded off the coast of fl and no one want them.
like Barbados fl is assisting the ships in getting the passenger back to their countries.
