Prime Minister Mia Mottley  advised the country tonight that Barbados will impose a curfew from 8PM to 6AM starting on Saturday 28 March 2020  until 14 April 2020. On a personal note the Prime Minister also shared she will be MIA for a while because her medical team advised her to undergo a medical procedure this coming weekend. Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw will act as prime minister. The blogmaster wishes her well.

IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS THE US$ VALUE HAS INCREASED AT LEAST 20% OVER THE LAST 2 WEEKS.

ALSO GASOLINE AT THE PUMP WHETHER REGULAR, OR PREMIUM HAS DROPPED BY OVER US$1 (BD$2) PER LITER) BECAUSE OF SUBSTANTIAL LOWER PRICES PER BARREL ON THE WORLDWIDE MARKET.

THE CLOSEST US STATE HAS ALSO SEEN THE SAME TYPE OF FALL IN GASOLINE PRICING AT THE PUMP BECAUSE OF WORLDWIDE PRICING.

ARE BARBADIANS SEEN THIS SAME TYPE OF SAVINGS OR IS THE GOVERNMENT THE SOLE IMPORTER PRICE GOUGING AT A TIME WHEN PEOPLE COULD USE SAVINGS TO BUY FOOD AND MORE PRESSING ITEMS?

  2. @ Baje

Ironically, as the world rush for the safe haven of the Greenback, the value of the Bajan is also appreciating, which spells danger down the line in everyway, including making Barbados more expensive for UK tourists. Still waiting for our economists to tell us what is the future of BERT. Note the deafening silence. On the contrary, yesterday I spent an hour watching a webinar on how the crisis will impact the UK economy.
The oil price has largely collapsed because of the battle between the Russians and Saudis, that the fall has not been passed on to Barbadian consumers is not surprising.

When it come to self important egotists the Dullard is both compulsive and merciless. You appear to be one of their number.

  7. The price of oil is indexed to the price offered at the pump. The price of oil falls so too the price at the pump. Recently the government announced there will be aggressive forward purchases of oil to benefit from the fall in price.

This comment is meant to clarify and debunk hyperbole offered by some on the blog to inflate their agenda.

ARE YOU THE GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON AND APOLOGIST.

ON TUESDAY I FILLED UP MY CAR WITH PREMIUM (91) WHICH I REALIZED ON THE PRICING ON THE PUMP BEING US$1.06 CHEAPER THAN BEFORE.

I SAW THE SAME REDUCTION ON REGULAR GASOLINE (89).

THESE OPERATORS DON’T HAVE TO DEAL WITH WORLDWIDE PRICING AND SOURCES SAME AS BARBADOS OR ARE THEY GETTING THEIR PRODUCT FROM MARS?

One can tell the identity of a person by their choice of words and the manner in which the words are used either in their written or spoken words.. He repeatedly uses a word that tend to indicate who he is

    I am a curious type.

Are you familiar with the notion of the Dunbar Constant? Also the collective and individual brain? Should make for an interesting discussion on the herd mentality.

BUSINESS MONDAY: GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS HEDGING OF ENERGY PRODUCTS

    Mon, 03/23/2020 – 5:30am
GOVERNMENT wants the Barbados National Oil Company Limited (BNOCL) and the Barbados Light and Power Company Limited (BL&P) to lock in the currently low oil prices for a period of two years.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said so on Friday night. But that’s not all.
She also said that the Minister of Commerce, Dwight Sutherland, will have to issue general policy directions to the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) to indicate Government’s support for the policy of hedging of energy products.
Her comments have come almost four years after the FTC had turned down an application by the Light and Power Company to go ahead with the hedging of electricity charges.
Ms. Mottley said in Parliament that the Government wants to ensure that this is done before the country loses the benefits of low energy prices.
The last time this subject of hedging came up was in 2016 when the FTC took a decision not to allow the BL&P to apply the results and costs of fuel hedging to the calculation of the Fuel Clause Adjustment.
According to the FTC at the time, the risks asso-ciated with fuel hedging are grounded in the ability of the hedger to guarantee the achievement of the objectives that were established at the outset of the programme and the incidence of substantial financial loss.

    Yes.

A caller was on the call-in program ,the pen-ultimate caller admitted that he was not a microbiologist ,but that stringent methods should be used like I advocated to detect the unknown carrier Z.

It has now been revealed that there is another case. The island is from 5 PM. today under 24 hour curfew.

The Fellow Babb admitted that looking through V.O.B windows there was a long line from Jordan’s super market.

I DON’T FOLLOW FACEBOOK SO REEL AND COME AGAIN.

WHO ARE YOU THAT YOU CAN’T BE CORRECTED.

YOU CONTINUE WITH YOUR APPALLING IGNORANCE.

SO MY BUYING GASOLINE AT THE PUMP US$1.06 (25% SAVINGS) CHEAPER THIS WEEK PREVENTS BAJANS FROM HAVING SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS BECAUSE GOVERNMENT HAS PUT FORWARD SOME SMOKES AND MIRRORS AS YOU POSTED ABOVE.

IS THIS HOW BUSINESS IS DONE IN THE REAL WORLD.

BNOCL IS A MONOPOLY (CONTROLLED) BY GOVERNMENT.

THE FACT THAT THEY CANNOT BE PASSING ON REAL SAVINGS WITH OIL AT A 20 YEAR LOW AND LOWEST DEMAND TELLS ME THE TRUE STORY WHETHER YOU WANT TO HIDE THE TRUTH OR NOT FROM LOCAL BAJANS.

YOUR BLOG NOW SEEMS TO BE THE DEFENDER OF TEAM BLP GOVERNMENT AND NOT OBJECTIVE AS IT SHOULD BE.

THE ONLY AGENDA SHOULD BE THE TRUTH.

  15. It has now been revealed that there is another case. The island is from 5 PM. today under 24 hour curfew.

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

AS I SAID FROM DAY ONE THE VIRUS DOESN’T ONLY SPREAD AT NIGHT CURFEW WITH BARBADOS EXPERTS SEEMED TO KNOW MORE THAN THE INTERNATIONAL WORLD WHO IT SHOULD SELL ITS KNOWLEDGE TO.

THE USUAL BU POSSE CAME OUT TO DEFEND THEIR GOVERNMENT INCLUDING WITH THE BEACHES DESPITE THE POTENTIAL COSTS TO THEIR FELLOWMAN.

THERE IS SICKENING APPALLING IGNORANCE ON THE LITTLE ROCK.

  16. Baje nobody in Barbados gives a damn about you and your so called degrees or sucvess and add Austin to that as well.Hear Austin the President is missing in action although he knows Ms Mottley had a medical proceedure. This kind of gross disrespect for our PM should not be tolerated on this forum from him in my view.He even went as far as stating Ms Mottley should disclose her illness. Why should she? When his hero Mr Thompson who he claimed was bright but could not back it up with any evidence whem challenged was ill and flying in and out of the island on clico, s private jet most bajans did not know of his illness for months and i did not hear this hyprocrite calling for disclosure go figure.

  17. One can tell the identity of a person by their choice of words and the manner in which the words are used either in their written or spoken words.. He repeatedly uses a word that tend to indicate who he is,

Bobbie don’t go running so fast. You have no clue about who the Dullard might be.
So before you get back to the bottle let me leave you with this: most of your career is behind you. Most of the Dullard’s is ahead.
When you were doing your “post doctoral research in microbiology and recombinant DNA” and contemplating failed businesses (plural) the Dullard was probably not even born.

As opposed to Bobbie you seem barely literate, so the Dullard will grant you a pass.

  19. @ Hal April 2, 2020 2:04 PM

The news of curfew was just aired by V.O.B

You might have wonder about my not talking of buying food stuff. You need not worry. I buy all my stuff on special just before best by dates at knock down prices. I have enough canned stuff for more than six months Two-three weeks ago ,there was a sale of grade B chicken at $6.00/kilo stocked up. The portions are individually packed in two-piece portions in in small zip-lock freezers bags. Then placed into larger zip-lock freezer bags. Stocked up on the green sweet peppers ,have blanched and then frozen them. Got carrots at $1.15/lb from Scotty’s and have been making carrot juice. I am also using iced tea ( York Tea at knocked price $1.99/40 bags).Have lot) and am using the natural sweetener Stevia. In other words am using my scientific knowledge to my advantage. You must know about Yorkshire teas)Have the sweet potatoes and rice etc.. Have germinated some Bodie beans (Bora) but have a problem with the monkeys. Have to germinate some runcifers ( you will know then by the name increase peas). Last week bought 3liters of sunflower oil for $9.75( cheapest on the market from Jordan) Also bought another gallon of bleach. From the time I wrote that article (4th. February, Barbados Underground) I did what I had to do . stocked up on anti-histamine pills. Already had 70% iso-propyl alcohol. Also stocked up on three 18.5 lb bags of cat food for my cats ( in addition to the one that was currently in use). Also antibiotic cream. Discovered nearly 5-lbs of raisins, in a container will use some to tone down the J.Wray &Nephew. The cub motto : be prepared.

  20. As opposed to Bobbie you seem barely literate, so the Dullard will grant you a pass.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

THAT IS THE BEST YOU CAN DO.

I DON’T NEED ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM SOMEONE LIKE YOU WHO HAS TO ATTACK AND TRY TO BELITTLE ANOTHER MAN ON HIS ACHIEVEMENTS WHETHER OBTAINED IN 1970 or 2020.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER WILL ALWAYS FLOCK TOGETHER.

  21. @ Dullard April 2, 2020 2:29 PM

” Most of the Dullard’s is ahead.”

Don’t you think you should use the proviso if ” you survive this current problem?” At some point in time you will have to forego hunkering down inside and go outside. A mighty sneeze could put paid to all of your expectation. All things being equal I should be shuffling off before you. I think you should contemplate a fruit tree full of fruit of all ages. An examination of the fallen fruit under the canopy reveals a lot of young green fruit: fruit that one would expect to be at the height of a long and gainful existence. You ought to ponder on life.

This is getting boring now. Bobbie was great fun, you not so much.

Plus I know exactly who you are so let’s leave this right here.

Stay in your lane. Have the last word brother.

100% Correct. I had my ‘fun’. Let’s draw a line under this.

Dr. Anthony Fauci got his credentials around the same as myself in1970-1980’s period. He is holding center stage.

  26. @ Robert

Great shopping. Stock up, there will be a food shortage coming. It is when we should fall back on the skills of our grand parents – cou-cou, stew food, soup, bakes, muffins, flour drops in hot chocolate, rice and salt fish, sweet potatoes, yams, etc

  27. 10, 000 seedlings for 400 homes
    10PR Initiative gets underway
The National Conservation Commission (NCC), in collaboration with FarmFinder Global Inc. and the Nature Fun Ranch, launched the 10,000 Plus Resilience initiative (10PR) today.
NCC’s acting General Manager Ryan Als stated that the 10PR initiative was developed to enhance Barbados’ food security, by cultivating and distributing 10,000 food crop seedlings for free, to 400 households to start kitchen gardens He added that the programme which will run from April to May 2020, is a timely intervention, which should see an uptake of kitchen gardening in communities across Barbados.

  28. @ Hants April 2, 2020 3:48 PM

The monkey problem must be taken care of. From past experience a lot of the trees will die.

  29. @ Blogmaster;

Can we stick to the subject, important as it is? Why waste time? As you know from a couple of unpublished texts, personalizing the debate advances us not a bit. Thus, I had long dismissed “Baje”, a brutishly, brutally ignorant, ignoramus. Why therefore continue to waste time? As I said, “too much to do, too little time”.

I LONG DISMISSED YOU AS A DISHONEST WANT TO BE.

YOU AND YOUR ILK IS WHY THE ISLAND IS THE WAY IT IS.

WHEN YOUR LIES AND STORIES ARE EXPOSED YOU RESORT TO NAME CALLING.

    SMALL ISLAND MENTALITY.

LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND THE INSULTS YOU THROW ARE AN ACCURATE DEPICTION OF YOURSELF AND MANY OF YOUR CRONY BUDDIES ON THE ISLAND.

  32. Dismissed …knave. Your sense of superiority over Barbadians is sorely misplaced.

See the 2 texts I had sent you DIRECTLY via the Blogmaster, fya.

Also, fyi, I have never had any cronies on the island.

You, for your part, remain no more than a pompous, pretentious bone- head and an empty, disgruntled anonymous twit. Gottogo, clown. “Too much to do, too little time”.

  33. Oh lord C Pilgrim and Dullard you going to kill the loudmouth knowall Baje.He has been ecposed for the fraud he is.I know he is pimping about on this blog looking to respond to any attacks on him so look out poor frllow seems to have nothing better to do alike Mariposa, Austin and Waru.On another note i perdonally agree with John A as far as the closing of supermarkets are concerned. I was in a line for 2 hours yesterday at a major supermarket and i saw the proper distancing in operation. The amout of people told me that people need regular and rrliable supplies which cannot be guaranteed by village shops who depend on deliveries from such places. Therefore i think the closure of supermarkets should be reversed.

  34. @ Lorenzo

I AM A FRAUD BECAUSE I EXPOSED THE DISHONESTY THAT YOU INCLUDING CALEBPILGRIM COME ON THIS BLOG TO MISLEAD BAJANS.

    POT CALLING KETTLE BLACK.

I NOTE THEY NEVER SEEM TO ATTACK THE INFORMATION I PUT OUT ONLY THE PERSONAL ATTACKS TO DEFLECT.

    THAT IS TYPICAL LOCAL BEHAVIOR.

UNLIKE AN IDIOT LIKE YOU I DON’T HAVE TO STAND IN LINE AT A SUPERMARKET FOR HOURS OR WORRY ABOUT BEING CLOSED FOR 2 WEEKS.

CLEARLY SHOWS WHO ARE THE REAL IDIOTS.

ANOTHER THING YOUR INSULTS ALONG WITH THE OTHERS DON”T BOTHER JUST SHOWS THE LEVEL OF DEPRAVITY IN THAT SMALL 2 x 3 ISLAND YOU GUYS RESIDE IN OR ATTACHED TO.

    PLEASE ENJOY YOUR 24HR LOCKDOWN.

  35. ‘We are on the verge of a massive collapse’: Ex-Energy Secretary Perry says COVID-19 will ravage oil industry

Former Energy Secretary Rick Perry believes that the oil industry could collapse because of the dramatic decrease in demand worldwide caused by the coronavirus outbreak and a steep decline in prices.

“Our capacity is full. The Saudis are flooding this market with cheap oil,” Perry told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night. “I’m telling you, we are on the verge of a massive collapse of an industry that we worked awfully hard, over the course of the last three or four years, to build up to the number one oil and gas producing country in the world, giving Americans some affordable energy resources.”

Many U.S. states and countries around the world have ordered their citizens to stay home in order to contain the spread of the virus. And airlines have dramatically cut back on flights as the number of passengers has fallen off. Fewer cars on the road and planes in the sky means far less demand for oil.

Coupled with a dispute between Saudi Arabia and Russia that has resulted in an oil surplus, the price for crude as well as gasoline has plunged. The national average for gas in the U.S. is now below $2 a gallon.

  36. You are slipping up, John or else you have saved it to use as ammunition for another time. How come you did not point out that I should have subtracted the cases that recovered?

  37. Nice to see the president has ignored her previous advice and has said what her medical procedure was about. That is not only transparent, but good politics. The fear was she has contracted coronavirus.
    We wish her well.

  38. If the prime minister had the opportunity to comment she would probably say to to shove your well wishes. Only after she confirmed what anyone with commonsense knew from reading between the lines were you able to extend well wishes?

  39. David you need to stop being so obviously transparent in your support for govt
It does not make for fair and balanced reporting
Yes Mia knew and listened to the back and forth hinted with insinuating talking points about her health
Hence she responded and was transparent
Really don’t know why people comments or opinions about Mia are bothersome to u as a public figure she is not and would not be the last to be scrutinize
Her shoulders are board and her posterior is wide enough to take many licks and she can handle herself accordingly
David you ought to chill your slip is dragging on the floor
