Intro

2 Timothy 2:2  clearly teaches ………..

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

The New International Version puts 2 Timothy 2:2 this way …..

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

I hope you noticed the words

  • 1- Me
  • 2- You
  • 3-“Faithful men” or “Reliable men”
  • 4- who shall be able to teach others also
  • or

who will also be qualified to teach others

This verse encapsulates to me what TEACHING & LEARNING is all about!

Note that there are  four learners/ teachers in this verse!

1- ME

Paul must have been a great learner. He had imbibed the teaching in his home, synagogue, and at the “feet of Gamaliel,” And  he became a MASTER TEACHER! He went from being a great learner to become a MASTER TEACHER!

2- YOU

Paul, the MASTER TEACHER was now teaching Timothy!

Timothy is a good picture of us!

We were taught by some person(s) well enough that we could become teachers; and even perhaps MASTER TEACHERS.

3- Faithful men” or “Reliable men”

Now we have been entrusted in teaching faithful or reliable persons or subject or profession or craft……….

Now we have been entrusted in teaching faithful or reliable persons something that we have learned well, do well or that we are very excited about!

4- 0THERS ALSO

But we have probably not really taught properly, unless the ones we have taught are able to………. teach others also  or will also be qualified to teach others. This has always  been my aim when ever I teach. I have always wanted my pupils or students to BE ABLE TO TEACH OTHERS ALSO! To me that is the purpose of every teacher!

Having said all the above, I invite you to listen/watch my best Bible student present a Bible Survey recorded into video format.

GP, hopefully the dead white man on the cross that you worship will come in time to save the world from this bioweapon created by the albino 😈 .

  2. Paul must have been a great listener a component of being a great teacher
Great teachers dont pontificate soley on a view of self righteousness
They expound on things that they have seen heard and most importantly listened with appreciation and attention
Many of Pauls writings can be attributed to things which he had seen and heard and listened then having the ability to delivered these messages in his letters with an ever presence of passionate zeal and compassion for the church
Neeedles to say the latter of which u do not have GP

    @ Dr. GP

I have an admission to make, de ole man is be teifing some of your messages

One thing that I am resigned to is the fact that there are people who simply WILL NOT ever believe in God.

For them one can only pray confident that “there are those of other flocks that are also His”

Barring those who sin against the Holy Ghost!

  4. re I have an admission to make, de ole man is be teifing some of your messages

  5. ABOUT 22 YEARS AGO I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH A NUMBER OF TEENAGERS ABOUT THE NEED FOR A BIBLE SURVEY. JOEL WAS PART OF THAT GROUP,

I taught them that it is very important for all Bible students to have some system which they employ to work their way through the Bible.

In those sessions I gave them a handout that incorporated the divisions of the Bible below, which I have used for almost 25 years, taken from Ray Baugham’s Bible History Visualized, Moody Press 1963, Joel apparently developed his videos using this classification. I am very proud of his effort

    • CREATION.
    • CONSCIENCE.
    • CAPTAIN NOAH.
    • CONFUSION OF TONGUES.
    • CALL OF ABRAM.
    • CARRYING BURDENS.
    • CAMP.
    • CONQUEST.
    • CROWN.
    • CAPTIVITY.
    • CONSTRUCTION.
    • CROSS.
    • CHURCH.
    • COMING OF CHRIST.
    • CONDEMNATION.
    • CONSUMATION.

  6. The biggest problem with the church of christianity is they want full control and monopoly of the various practices of spirituality and ban practices such as mediation and yoga or women referring to themselves as goddesses etc

  7. THIS IS A NOTE FROM A CORRESPONDENT IN CENTRAL FLORIDA ON JOEL’S BIBLE SURVEY

    Hi

I watched 6 or 7 of Joel’s videos, and thought he did an excellent job. He talked so distinctly, I could understand everything.

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to fly him over to speak to our chapel once the virus epidemic has passed. How much is airfare round trip? And would his current employment allow him the flexibility to do that?

I look forward to hearing your answer to these questions.
    Let’s explore the possibility.

You have every reason to thank the Lord for such a sterling student Are your other students as well versed in scripture and grounded in their belief?

    Warm fraternal regards,

    Dan

  8. The notes, which I have fortunately now found, and which were used to teach Joel and his friends in 1998, and which formed the basis of his well produced videos, were prepared and taught in 1985 at a training course for would be Bible teachers in a local church in Barbados.

I hope that readers of this column can use them to great use in their Bible teaching.

THE METHOD of SYNTHESIS or SURVEY
The method of SYNTHESIS or SURVEY, which was popularized by James M, Gray, a former President of Moody Bible Institute, is the method of the telescope – of seeing the Bible as a. whole.

Have you ever climbed a very high mountain and upon arriving at the summit were thrilled with the breath – taking view? While traveling through the valleys you had seen the details – the trees, the flowers, the streams and the stones. But from the mountain top you had a panoramic view of the vast expanses of God’s wonderful nature. Similarly, the method of Surveying the Bible is planned to give you such a panoramic view of the inspired Word of God, the Holy Bible. From this viewpoint you will see it as a cohesive whole, instead of as a series of unrelated stories or details .

The Bible is the story of what God is doing in history. Like every good story, it has a beginning and an ending. It starts with the CREATION. Then, conflict is introduced with the workings of Satan and the fall of man introducing the dilemma.
The rest of the story is the solving of that grand dilemma by God and the final triumph of his purpose at the second coming of Christ. All the events in-between fit into that story and contribute to the unfolding of the “plot”. The Bible has one main theme — REDEMPTION — and many sub-themes which run through the entire book. Redemption is hinted at in the beginning – Gen.3:15 and developed as the main subject, coming to a climax with the second advent of Christ. The sub themes, interwoven into the narrative and all dependant upon the main theme redemption, are defined and illustrated in the events of the Bible.

Most people cannot think their way through the Bible. They may know the Bible characters and many of the main events and stories, but they are hopelessly lost when they are called upon to
connect the stories in order. The purpose of this chapter is to serve as a “glue” to help you assemble the knowledge that you already have and to help you see the unfolding story of the redemption of man and remember it. Do not try to read the whole Bible through as you study
these outlines, because you will only get “bogged down” and miss the overall picture. Instead study the outlines through several times, reading the portions assigned.
Having done this, start reading the Bible through using Dr. Gray’s Christian Workers Commentary on the Whole Bible, or similar simple commentary on the whole Bible to guide you.
Outlined in the next eight pages of this manual is a very simple method to help us remember Bible History; it is through the use of sixteen (16) words which all begin with the letter C, and which describe sixteen important events or periods in Bible history. Learn them well since they will serve as nails on which to hang other events and characters.
First, learn the C – titles, for they are the backbone of all your study – don’t neglect them,
After you Know the C – titles, read the story of the first period, CREATION, and study and learn the sub topics and key facts.

After you have done this go on to the next C – title, CONSCIENCE and study it as you did Creation.
Work your way through all the C – titles in this way. Keep reviewing so that you won’t forget what you have stidied. Don’t forget to preserve the results of your own study by making notes as you read. Soon you should be able to sit down and in your own words tell someone the Bible story from Creation to Consumation.

When you have mastered the information in these outlines, put the “meat” on these “bones”, by reading the Bible right through using the following rules suggested by Dr. Gray.
    1. Begin where God began with the book of Genesis,
    2. READ the Book (do not study it in the usual sense).
    3. READ the Book continuously at a single sitting without noticing chapter or verse.
    4. READ it repeatedly,
    5. READ it independently without commentaries.
    6. READ it prayerfully.

The suggestions in this chapter are an overview of but one systematic method of Bible Studv. What is important is that you adopt some systematic method. Whereas the haphazard reading of a few verses of Scripture is better than nothing, it is not real Bible Study. It is simply nibbling at the truth and does not tend to build up strong Christians.
Let us initially study the Bible as a scout on surveillance, who seeks to obtain a thorough and experimental knowledge of a new country. Let us go over its vast fields of truth; descend into its valleys, climb its mountains of vision; follow its streams of inspiration, enter its halls of instructions and visit its wonndrous portrait galleries.
In the chapters to follow we will discuss how to dwell and dig up nuggets from these same valleys, mountains, and streams.
