Most of us who have attended church for many years, have heard read in our churches the majestic Messianic messages of Micah chapters 4 and 5 at Christmas time.  But there is another obscure prediction that Micah gives about the Lord in chapter 2:12 &13.

This morning, November 17th 2019, at 11 a.m, I am scheduled to give a message on this passage at a small Brethren  assembly in Central Florida. I have decided to share my notes here on BU, entitled  CHRIST IN MICAH Part 1-MESSIANIC  PROPHESIES IN MICAH   as THE SWEET SUNDAY SERMON for this week.

Today we seek  to examine Micah 1:1–2:12&13, and explore and apply the truths therein to those  of us in the Church Age, as we anticipate our eventual entry into the Millennium along with the Jewish remnant mentioned in the passage according to the interpretation of these verses  by the law of second mention.

This first Messianic prophecy in Micah  as recorded in Micah 2:12,13 begins as a pastoral scene, but the pastoral imagery in verse 12, gives way to a military one in verse 13, in this obscure, but very powerful prophesy that basically presents one of the major themes of prophesy-  that of Judgement  followed by deliverance.

Micah predicted  that the nation was going to be destroyed, and the people scattered, as God punished His people with exile, God would also gather them together again, and set up a new king to lead His people back, by breaking through their bondage. Through trouble and hardship, God’s people would see a better day. A remnant would be saved. We are convinced from our knowledge of the prophetic scriptures that the present unbelief, spiritual  blindness and rejection of Israel is only temporary. According to Romans 11:25-26, the time is coming when the Jews will be so moved by the blessing that has come to the Gentiles, that they will be moved to seek that same blessing for themselves.

In God’s own time and way, there will be a widespread turning of the Jews to Christ as their Messiah and Saviour in the end time, for God is not finished with the Jew.

In God’s own time and way, there will be a widespread turning of the Jews to Christ as their Messiah and Saviour in the end time. We, like Paul in Romans 11:25-26,  are anticipating the return of Jesus Christ and the setting up of His throne in Jerusalem. At this time, the Jews will widely accept the Lord. Then, by their acceptance, greater blessing will come to Gentiles, and there will also be glorious possibilities for Israel.

The hardening of Israel will eventually pass away and there will be full restoration for Israel. Luke 21:Verse 26- 27 points  out that in a future day, Israel’s eyes will be open to the Person of Jesus and all Israel will be saved as predicted in Isaiah 59:20, where it is written that “There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.” This is because  the Lord’s covenant with Israel will be  fulfilled as He takes away their sin. God will keep every promise or covenant He has made to Israel! Not one of them shall fail. Then the people of Israel will no longer be characterized by a rejection of Jesus. God wants us to know that He hasn’t forgotten Israel, but He is now filling His house with those who will come to Him during this age of grace. Romans 11: 29 teaches that the people of Israel continue to be “beloved” from the point of view of God because the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

God will not go back on His Word. His promise is indestructible and unchangeable. God’s election to mercy is irrevocable. Since they were called by the Lord, that calling will be fulfilled and Israel will come to salvation through Jesus Christ. When Jesus comes, it will be a great day for the Jew because He will redeem them and receive them unto Himself, as predicted in Isa. 25:8-9; 43:25; 51:3; 55:12, and fulfill His plans on their behalf.

  1. Israel is the name of a tribal family not the place set up in 1948 at same time as South African apartheid. The original settlers in the region now known as Israel had come from Africa. Jesus was known as the son of God and christians are known as Children of God.

  2. david
when I click image the ppt is not coming up

  3. Does God really care whether the Jews believe in Christ or not
God has given mankind free will
So this constant bellowing coming from the Christian belief that Jews acceptance to a belief in Christ matters smacks of christian political dogma
Furthermore if Christ death was a recognition of mercy and forgiveness for jew and gentile
Why should it matter to the Christain if jews come a an understanding of Jesus being the Messiah
Jesus last dying words were father forgive them for they know not what they have done
Shouldn’t those words be enough to bring closure as well as an acceptance that Jesus forgave the Jew
Why is the christain faith so obsessed with whether or not Jews come to a righteous understanding of Jesus
Seems like Jesus had no problem with the jews Faith or belief in him since he forgave them

  4. can see it now David …….thanks!

  5. Q Why is the christain faith so obsessed with whether or not Jews come to a righteous understanding of Jesus
    A. 16 OF THE BOOKS OF THE BIBLE ARE SAID TO BE PROPHESY
15 OF THESE ADDRESS THE TOPIC OF THE REGATHERING OF ISRAEL
EVEN THE ONE CHAPTER BOOK- OBADIAH- HAS A REFERENCE TO THIS CONCEPT

NOTE THAT JONAH DOES NOT , BECAUSE JONAH IS NOT A PROPHESY PER SE, BUT IS REALLY A BOOK ABOUT A PROPHET.

SEVERAL OF THE MESSIANIC PSALMS ADDRESSES THE ISSUE OF THE MILLENNIUM AND THE REGATHERING OF ISRAEL

PAUL IN THE DISPENSATIONAL SECTION OF ROMANS (I.E CHAPTERS 9-11) ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE

JESUS IN THE OLIVET DISCOURSE MENTIONS THIS TOPIC

WHY THEN SHOULD BELIEVERS WHO KNOW THE WORD OF GOD, NOT DISCUSS THIS ISSUE?

IF ONE WOULD READ THE PPT ONE WOULD SEE THAT THE CLEAR INTENTION IS TO ……Seek to examine Micah 1:1–2:12&13, and explore and apply the truths therein to those of us in the Church Age, as we anticipate our eventual entry into the Millennium along with the Jewish remnant mentioned in the passage according to the interpretation of these verses by the law of second mention.

  6. What did Jesus say about the Jews acceptance of him
If anyone should give a hardened concern it should be Jesus
From his many teachings he hardly said anything about Jews being part of prophecy projected to his second coming
Jesus told his disciples he has gone to prepare a place for them that where he is there would be also
This long drawn out story about the return of Jesus hoisted on regurgitated political dogma becomes an irritant to both jew and gentile alike with an asterisk applied of introducing all kinds of differing politics
Unless Jesus has made such prophetic statement it really doesn’t matter what Paul has to say

  7. All wunna Christains have done is to irritate a bad situation in the Middle east over the years
Instead of creating a nation of love Peace and harmony
Has used the bible to create disharmony ..division.. war and strife
Make me wonder what kind of God u wunna worship

If anyone should give a hardened concern it should be Jesus
From his many teachings he hardly said anything about Jews being part of prophecy projected to his second coming

ACTUALLY JESUS ADDRESSED THESE ISSUES IN THE OLIVET DISCOURSE WHEN ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS OF THE TWO PAIRS OF BROTHERS AMONGST HIS DISCIPLES. THESE WERE JEWS WHO WERE TRANSITIONING FROM JUDAISM INTO THE CHURCH AGE
    Matthew 24
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

SEE ALSO VERSES 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. AND THE CORRESPONDING SCRIPTURES IN MARK AND LUKE

RE Unless Jesus has made such prophetic statement it really doesn’t matter what Paul has to say

NOTE THE PROPHETS SAID WHAT GOD TOLD THEM TO SAY ABOUT THE END TIME

IN DANIEL, 2, 7, &9 DANIEL WAS GIVEN TO TELL THE TIMELINE OF WHAT JESUS CALLS THE TIME OF THE GENTILES (I.E THE TIME WHEN THE GENTILES WILL HOLD POLITICAL SWAY AND CONTROL).

SINCE JESUS IS GOD AND KNEW THE BEGINNING AND THE END, AND KNEW WHAT PROPHESY WOULD BE GIVEN TO JOHN AND PAUL TO SAY ABOUT THE END TIME, HE DID NOT NEED TO REPEAT WHAT HAD BEEN SAID, OR WHAT NEEDED TO BE SAID.

WHAT HE DID SAY IN THE OLIVET DISCOURSE WHICH WAS HIS MAJOR PROPHETIC TEACHING, AND THE PROPHESY THAT IDENTIFIED HIM AS A PROPHET ACCORDING TO THE TEST OF A PROPHET GIVEN IN Deuteronomy 18:18 AND FOLLOWING.

WHAT JESUS DID IN THE OLIVET DISCOURSE WAS GIVE THE KEY TO UNDERSTANDING PROPHESY BY RELATING THE TIME LINE GIVEN BY DANIEL TO THE START OF THE TIME LINE PERTAINING TO THE JEWS IN THE END TIME

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

ALL THE SANE SOUND SERIOUS SYSTEMATIC STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS IN THE SCRIPTURES UNDERSTAND AND TEACH THIS. THEY ALL TEACH THAT IT DOES MATTER what Paul has to say, BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND THAT PAUL, AND JOHN WERE GIVEN SPECIFIC THINGS TO SAY, NONE OF WHICH ARE DISCORDANT WITH WHAT THE PREVIOUS PROPHESIES SAID.

THERE IS A CLEAR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DOGMA AND THE OPINION OF THE BIBLICAL NON STUDENT AND THE VERY CLEAR STATEMENTS OF WHAT THE BIBLE ACTUALLY SAYS

I HAVE FOUND THAT THE ONLY WAY TO ASCERTAIN WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS IS TO READ AND STUDY IT.

  10. RE All wunna Christains have done is to irritate a bad situation in the Middle east over the years
Instead of creating a nation of love Peace and harmony
Has used the bible to create disharmony ..division.. war and strife

1 CHRISTIANS HAVE NOT AND CAN NOT rritate a bad situation in the Middle east
2 CHRISTIANS CAN NOT creatE a nation of love Peace and harmony in the Middle east . Nowhere in the scripture is it said that this is the job of the believer. The Scriptures, however, teaches in Psalm 122:6 that people should “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” and promises “May those who love you (i.e Jerusalem) should prosper.

The problem in the middle east is due to the fact that folk do not understand the truth of Galatians 3:16 thus
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Several verses in Genesis where the Abrahamic Covenant is given states that the promise was made to Abraham and his seed (SINGULAR) , NOT TO HIS SEEDS (PLURAL) . ROMANS 11:29 TEACHES THAT THESE PROMISES TEACH THAT THESE PROMISES ARE IRREVOCABLE!

THE ONLY WAY TO ASCERTAIN WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS IS TO READ AND STUDY IT. AND TO DO SO PROPERLY

  11. In the first part of today’ s lecture we basically interpreted Micah 2:12-13 with respect to both the parts of this prophesy that has already been fulfilled and also the parts which have yet to be fulfilled.

We were able to agree that the first main section of the book of Micah ends in chapter two with two verses about the Shepherd of Israel who gathers His sheep into the protective fold and leads them out as their triumphant King.

We were able to appreciate the harmony of Scriptures and acknowledge the relationship of this passage to the amazing passage in Ephesians chapter 2:14 et secq.

We were able to affirm that we believe that the remaining OT prophesies will be fulfilled as set out, because we know from the historical record and from archaeological studies that many OT prophesies indeed been fulfilled as set.

Certainly Unger’s books on the Archaeology of the OT and the Archaeology of the NT is very good bed time reading on this subject.

The correlation of the historical and the archaeological findings can not be refuted.
There are several things mentioned in Micah 2:12-13 this passage that are very clear.
    • God Will Surely Gather His People
    • God Will Raise a King to Lead His People
    • God’s People Will Follow This King to Victory c.f Psalm 110:3
    • This King, called the “Breaker” in verse 13 is the future Messiah, The Lord Jesus Christ, who has since come and broken down the wall sin that separates us from God through his death on the cross).
    • We learn also that GOD JUDGES SIN BUT IS MERCIFUL AND RESTORES AND PRESERVES A REMNANT AND THIS WILL ALL CULMINATE IN THE RESTORATION IN THE MILLENNIUM

  12. The following promises are made in Micah 2:12,13.
    • Verse 12
    • 1 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee
    • 2 I will surely gather the remnant of Israel;
    • 3 I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold
    • 4 They shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men
    • Verse 13
    • 5The one who breaks open will come up before them;
    • 6they will break out, pass through the gate, and go out by it;
    • 7 their king the LORD will pass before them,
    • at their head.“
    • Ideally we need to examine and interpret each of these promises and determine when exactly they will be fulfilled, and what benefits are there for us in this, the Church Age.

    • 1- I will surely assemble (or gather) all of you, Jacob

    • There are no “ifs” with God: there are no “peradventures” (uncertainties or doubts) as to whether something is the case where divine
predestination rules the day. When God speaks, it is done and when God commands, it shall stand firm.(Psalm 33:9)

    • God promises a full restoration to the remnant of Israel in the millennium.
    • This passage is an obvious promise of restoration for Israel in the end time also, for God promises a full restoration to the remnant of Israel in the millennium.
    • Remember that when applying this passage, by either first and second mention that it refers to Israel – not the church, as some opine.

    • However, in the end time, in the Millennial Kingdom the Church will also be present as taught in Romans 11:11 inter alia

The designation in the phrase All of you, Jacob… or all of you Israel strongly supports the premise that God is speaking to
the entire nation (all 12 tribes, including the ten so called “lost” tribes.

    • It is thought by some even to the present day that the ten northern tribes have not yet been specifically restored to
their land, but remain the ten lost tribes! But the ten tribes are lost only to man. God knows their whereabouts, and in
His time will restore them completely.
    • Clearly the full restoration of Israel as presented here in Micah 2:12-13 awaits a future fulfillment.

Micah repeats this truth of the blessed hope of God Himself regathering Israel again in Micah 4:6-7 thus…
    • “In that day,” declares the LORD, “I will assemble (‘asaph) the lame and gather (qabats) the outcasts, even those whom I have afflicted. I will make the lame a remnant and the outcasts a strong nation, and the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion from now on and forever.
    • Compare similar promises from other prophets…
    • (Ezekiel 37:21) “Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land;
    • (Hosea 1:11) And the sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be gathered (qabats) together, and they will appoint for themselves one leader, and they will go up from the land, for great will be the day of Jezreel.

  13. nd then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other

If the above discourse is between jesus and his disciples
Why is Jesus answering the disciples question in the third person
GP the above text which you referenced as jesus spoken words are words which seem to imply what Jesus had heard or read from those who had prophecy his first coming on this earth
It seems like a leap backward into biblical prophecy spoken out of the mouth of Jesus

  14. Q If the above discourse is between jesus and his disciples
Why is Jesus answering the disciples question in the third person

A THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT JESUS WAS ANSWERING THE 4 BROTHERS QUESTIONS AS IS CORROBORATED BY THE ACCOUNTS OF THIS DISCOURSE IN BOTH MARK AND LUKE. I AM NOT ASKING YOU——I AM TELLING YOU. YOU CAN ACCEPT IT OR NOT
IF YOU KNEW THE GOSPELS WELL, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT JESUS VERY OFTEN USED THE TERM “the Son of man”
GOOGLE IT IN STRONG’S CONCORDANCE ONLINE IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT

RE GP the above text which you referenced as jesus spoken words are words which seem to imply what Jesus had heard or read from those who had prophecy his first coming on this earth

ALL SANE SOUND SERIOUS SYSTEMATIC STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS IN THE SCRIPTURES UNDERSTAND AND KNOW THAT JESUS IS THE SPEAKER IN THE OLIVET DISCOURSE (MATTHEW 24-25)

ANYONE THAT CAN READ ENGLISH CAN UNDERSTAND THIS.

RE It seems like a leap backward into biblical prophecy spoken out of the mouth of Jesus
WELL YOU CAN INTERPRET IT THUS IF YOU WISH
HOWEVER, IT IS VERY CLEAR TO ME AND EVERYONE THAT I HAVE READ ON THE OLIVET DISCOURSE THAT YOU ARE IN ERROR.
I HAVE RIGHTLY DIVIDED THE WORD OF TRUTH HERE
BUT I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT YOU WOULD SEEK TO REINVENT THE WHEEL

  15. JESUS VERY OFTEN USED THE TERM “the Son of man” TO REFER TO HIM SELF

IF KINGS AND QUEENS CAN USE THE PLURAL OF MAJESTY , WHY CANT JESUS THE KING OF KINGS AND LORDS NOT CALL HIM SELF THE SON OF MAN IF HE CHOOSES?

  16. I make specific reference of Jesus using the word ” He” when speaking of the end times

  17. ac
go and study the Word please

    2 tim 2
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

  18. SUNDAY MORNING NOVEMBER 17TH 2019 WAS A RAINY MORNING.
IN ADDITION IT WAS A VERY COLD MORNING WITH TEMPERATURES BELOW 50 DEGREES–QUITE UNUSUAL FOR CENTRAL FLORIDA.
IT WAS ADVERTISED THAT GP WOULD BE THE SPEAKER AT THE II 0′ CLOCK MEETING

IT IS NOTE WORTHY THAT DESPITE ALL THE ABOVE THE MEETING WAS WELL ATTENDED, AND THE CONTENTS OF THE ADDRESS WELL RECEIVED, WITH REQUESTS FOR THE PPT THAT APPEARS IN THIS BLOG

IT IS NOTE WORTHY ALSO THAT NONE OF THE ATTENDEES THOUGHT THAT THE SPEAKER WAS A FALSE TEACHER, OR THAT THE LECTURE WAS “RAW MEAT” AS MY TEACHING HAS ELSEWHERE BEEN DESCRIBED ON BU

IT IS NOTE WORTHY ALSO THAT NONE OF THE ATTENDEES WERE BIBLE ILLITERATES, BUT WERE VERSED IN THE HOLY SCRIPTURES. IN FACT MANY HAD ATTENDED BIBLE SCHOOL , AND SOME HAD SERVED ON THE MISSION FIELD

THERE ARE TWO MORE THINGS I WILL SAY OF THE ATTENDEES .

1- . THEY COULD BE APTLY DESCRIBED BY 1 THESSALONIANS 2:13 THUS

when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

2 THOSE WHO SOUGHT TO HAVE THE PPT EMAILED TO THEM DID SO IN ACCORD WITH ACTS 17:10-11
THEY WERE LIKE THE SAINTS AT BEREA

10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

  19. THOUGHTS ON INTERPRETATION OF PROPHETIC BOOKS

In regard to the OT Prophetic books such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, and the 12 “Minor” Prophets, remember that the most accurate interpretation is derived by applying the following principles:

    (1) Read the Scripture literally (unless the text is clearly figurative, e.g., Jesus said “I am the door…” Jn 10:9). If one interprets a text symbolically (allegorically, figuratively, spiritualizing) when that text makes good sense literally, one potentially opens themselves to the danger of inaccurate interpretation, for then the question arises as to who’s “symbolic” interpretation is correct and how imaginative one should be in evaluating a “supposed symbol”? Many of the commentaries and sermons on the OT prophetic books unfortunately are replete with non-literal interpretations (except when it comes to Messianic Passages, which are usually interpreted literally). Therefore the watchword when reading any commentary on Old Testament prophecy is caveat emptor (“buyer beware”). Read all commentaries like the Bereans (Acts 17:11-note).

    (2) Study the context which is always “king” in interpretation (don’t take verses out of context.)

    (3) Passages addressed to Israel should be interpreted as directed to the literal nation of Israel and should not be interpreted as addressed to the NTChurch, an entity not mentioned in the Old Testament. The promises of Jehovah to the nation of Israel (e.g., see Millennial Promises) remain valid (Jer 31:35, 36, 37, Nu 23:19, Lk 21:33) and have not been passed on to the NT Church because Israel has “defaulted” (See study Israel of God). Remember that while Scripture has only one correct interpretation, there can be many legitimate applications (See Application), and therefore the OT prophetic books are extremely applicable in the lives of NT believers.

    (4) Scripture is always the best commentary on Scripture.
