I am curious. Is there going to be any diversification of this economy? Seems to be the same tune all the time.

Dr. Robert Lucas

For all the years Barbados Underground has been in existence the recognition that there is an uncomfortable dependence on tourism has been discussed. Every election cycle aspiring politicians follow the script by promising all things pie in the sky. However no fundamental change has taken place since the Tom Adams era – he died in 1985, thirty four years ago.

Last week the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA) celebrated international business week October 20 – 26, 2019. Out of the several discussions held mention was made of the Estonia and Rwanda experience.

In just over 20 years Rwanda has transformed how it does business after being a strife torn country  with the genocide (Tutsis and Hutus). A simple explanation is that they worked successfully to change the mindset of the people.

Estonia has also been held up as a beacon of success post the breakup of the Soviet bloc. The world has witnessed the leadership of that country transition Estonia to a foreign system of government.  It is considered the model digital society.

Why have these two countries been able to translate a vision to action?

There has to be a realistic vision that will resonate with the local population.

Then it is left to the leadership stupid!

    “@Walter
Agree PUDRYR has overplayed the dissenting voice on BU. It is amazing we have a lane on the WWW to robustly discuss matters of real concerns and he and others prefer to play the puerile game.”

    David,
BU is evolving, and is attracting a lot of intelligent, independent-minded comments and commenters. We are also getting educated on the spot by the videos and links being provided. This is an important first step in creating a critical mass of people singing from the same hymn sheet with the ability to disseminate ideas and beam signals of enlightenment into the wider society.

Bajans wisely say that a man can only bring out what is inside of him. If he is puerile, it would be foolhardy to expect seriousness and maturity. Right now, in my opinion, Piece Uh De Cock is bringing “nuisance value” to most discussions. He will either up his game, or most of us will see him only in BU’s rear view mirror. The choice is his.

Keep up the good work. We and Barbados appreciate your transformative efforts.

When I began to post here your honour was exemplary.

No one could say anything against you, you were beyond reproach.

You said something AND YOU DID WHAT YOU SAID!

    THERE WAS NO VARIANCE!

Once, while I was really sick, you came to my assistance AND YOU DID NOT PREVARICATE OR DISSEMBLE.

Then one of you David King betrayed that trust when you did that action with the *** AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!

AND THEN THERE WAS THE *** which my Dearest SSS CAN CONFIRM

AND THAT WAS IT FOR ME!

I was going to stop completely when the Pieceuhderockyeahright profile was compromised in that way but it has worked out for me IN MORE WAYS THAN I CAN OR WILL SHARE.

I will share one THE LOGS and the open IP addresses.

So there I was, a committed dissenter, one who loves country, watching a duopoly RIP apart my country WITH A DECISION TO MAKE!

1.Jump ship and do a David Commissiong AND SEEL MY POLITICAL PRINCIPLES, AND BELIEFS, to serve Mugabe Mottley

    Or

2.Lose all personal aggrandisement and keep committed to my country.

And for me, I chose the second one.

The irony of all of this is that men like Pachamama who know me, and know what I stand for, once commented about what they thought was MY SELLOUT TO MUGABE but I had to “go North to Come South”

You David King, not the other two, are the George Linnaeus Banks at Barbados Underground

The others are young and spineless.

I WILL THEREFORE CURTAIL MY IMPUTATIONS AS TO YOUR CHARACTER and my comments about you Being the Minister of Disinformation when you David King MAKE THEM ADHERE TO THE HIGHER PURPOSE OF THE BLOG.

People are coming here in droves now and it is therefore critical that, IF WE WILL SAVE BARBADOS, you all 3 of you are unbiased facilitators of this process.

I cant change who I am insofar as my commitment to country overrides loyalty to any transient politician AND IF THAT BECOMES EVIDENT IN THE PATTERN OF GENUFLECTION TO THE WALTER BLACKMANS ON BU, I will respond to such sellouts because it is not for the Benefit of Barbados

I am not going to prolong this much longer.

I have stated my position and I wont shift from it.

All enemies of Barbados operate contrary to the pledge I took be it Blackman or Mugabe or whomever.

When we warriors affix our bayonet, we dont stop until the enemy is dead.

EITHER WE KILL THIS INSIDIOUS ENEMY or Barbados dies

“I have heard some of the young bashment artistes on the minibuses occasionally and though I detest the rawness of the lyrics I can still appreciate that they do have a way with words, rhythm and rhyme, meter etc and they are so good at painting word pictures that it jars my sensibilities. I know they could be good even if they ventured outside of the nether regions. They have talent that could be used to uplift if only ……”.

    Donna,
I agree with your comments and would like to amplify them by citing another example.

Many times, whilst driving on the ABC highway, I feel chills run down my spine as I see young motor cyclists doing high speed “wheelies”. The slightest mistake made means that they are dead on the spot. Yet, I find myself acknowledging and applauding the skill they exhibit.

There are many competitions involving the use of motor cycles, skateboards etc. offering hefty prize money that take place in different parts of the world. Why can’t we provide the training facilities needed for these young people to develop their skills at an international level and unleash them upon the rest of the world to compete? We need the foreign exchange.

PS: Of course, a puerile mind can easily argue that these young people are breaking the traffic laws of Barbados, and rather than vehemently condemning their actions, I am advocating “exporting” these criminals to other countries to earn foreign exchange. For that, the puerile mind will proceed to argue, I should never be allowed to enter the House of Assembly, and I should ask the blogmaster for a special blog to apologize to all Barbadians.
    LOL

“I have heard some of the young bashment artistes on the minibuses occasionally…….…… I personally would love to get my hands on some of them.”

    Donna,
I am a witness, and I know the context in which your words were written.

However, I would not at all be surprised, if, in the future, some twisted puerile mind begins to launch harassing attacks and claim that you, a hardbacked 60+ year old woman, expressed a craving on BU for young boys.

I am speaking from personal experience, so I really hope that your words do not attract such a nonsensical attack.

  7. Walter,

I thought of that very possibility when I was typing it. Let’s see who tries it!
