Wind and solar power offer an exciting prospect of rapid growth and energy independence to a sunny island like Barbados, set out in the Atlantic in the path of the dependable trade winds. However, a focused, all-encompassing national strategy is required, if we are to have any chance of realizing the vision of energy independence. Our Government should provide a road map to take us to the goal of 100 percent renewables, around which it should build a national consensus in favour of a strategy to achieve this goal. The road map would spell out the benefits of energy independence, and the main structures and systems that would have to be put in place to make the dream a reality. Once there is nationwide agreement on the goal and the things needed to achieve it, an action plan and timetable would be needed to monitor and report to the nation on progress towards the goal.
Thanks to recent improvements in the efficiency and affordability of solar and wind energy generation, Barbados now has the potential to double its GDP in less than two decades. Barbados’ abundant sunshine and reliable trade winds have become a more valuable resource than reserves of oil and gas could ever be. As the late Professor Oliver Headley once famously said: “The sun will still be shining when the oil runs out”. Technical studies by leading experts in the field show how Barbados can supply all of its current power needs with a combination of solar, wind and biogas, with an eco-friendly power storage system. A great deal of solar has already been installed and we have an idea where wind turbines might best be sited. We also have a report on the elements, technical, regulatory and financial, that would have to be sustained over a period of 15 years, to achieve 100 percent renewables.
The Barbados economy, which currently remains in the doldrums, could be revived to growth rates of 5 percent or more, with the implementation of a comprehensive action plan for 100 percent renewables, provided the island’s competitive weaknesses are addressed. With a 5 percent growth rate, our GDP would double in about 15 years and future prosperity would be assured. As I have said elsewhere, the reform of the public sector would serve to restore and enhance Barbados’ international competitiveness and attract new investment in tourism, international business and other quality products. That alone should provide growth of around 2 1/2 percent. The switch from fossil fuels to renewable sources of power adds to growth directly through investment in renewables and the acquisition of new skills and services. In addition, the savings from reduction in fuel imports increase every year, until the entire amount now spent on fuel is available for expansion of other activities. Investment in renewables plus foreign exchange savings could together add 3 percent or more to the growth rate, for an overall rate in excess of 5 percent.

I may be wrong but I think 55% of all fossil fuels imported into the island are used for transportation and electricity generation. If we really push hard and consistently we can see that percentage drop year by year until it is considered negligible.
We will need to get our hands and minds and hearts around the RE generation issue. If we don’t solve that we will not reap any large benefits in electrifying the transportation sector. Once we can generate electricity at a fair price/cost the economics of getting an electric vehicle will follow. In the real estate business, they say “location location location”. For us, it will be “generation generation generation” as the mantra.
I am no economist so I can’t tell you or say what percentage growth it will work out to be or project, but I can only see positives if we seriously chart a path toward RE and the associated electrification of transport.
It is inevitable that Solar energy will be the primary source of electrical power generation in Barbados.
The question is when and who will be the ” investors. “

The former Governor DeLilse Worrell’s is looking at the Pie Charts of the Barbados imports and saying if we did not have that Component of the Oil Imports, Barbados would Boom. What he has not told you was when the Oil Price Dropped in Half in the last Administration, there was no Boom; we went through the worst recession Ever.
He is also Advocating although it is not mentioned the Removal of all Gasoline and Diesel Vehicles with the loss of Billions of Dollars of peoples Assets. He has not mentioned the Great Loss of Government Revenue, with the Loss of the Government importing Petroleum Products…
If going Renewables were possible Europe would have done it already. He wants to turn Barbados into an Experiment, not knowing the outcome of at a minimum doubling the Cost of Electricity on the Backs of Every Single Bajan and the Attendant Food Cost Rises in Everything Cold Storage with the Attendant Rise in Construction cost.
I do not care if you were the Central Bank Governor you should keep your Impossible Dreams to yourself and NOT Willfully Subject the People of Barbados to those Delusions!

There is no country in the world that have done this, you are using Barbados as an experiment and those other countries have more money than us, this is uneconomical madness the same crap we dumped Stuarty for. OK say for augment I am wrong come and tell we Bajans what the price of electricity will be at the #2 level of electricity rate. Man up or Women up. And tell us we need to pay it, Please do not try tricks and tell us that the #1 level would not go up or that the #2 level would be where most of the householders are at tell us what the #4 level would be at for householder and for business. And stick to it do not try to be sanctimonious with us, talk the truth tell us the names of the big people who will be enjoying the rate of $.41per KWH when they sell it we only know of one Bizzy. Or better yet have the BL&P come out and say the rate they will have to charge to us hapless dumb ass stupid Bajans (this is how you see us) so that they can get a return on their investment.
They going with the flow because anything that Government does do there will be money in it for them that how governments work. I dear you! I double dear you! I triple dear you! Get the BL&P to say the price at the various levels (and not create more levels) and get them to say how long they will keep that price for and stick to it. I will make prediction electricity will sell for more than 1.5 times to 2 times the present cost than what we pay for now but the caveat is BL&P must state the price as they will be delivering it to the consumer with the conditions listed above. Come on, Man up/Woman up to the Barbadian public.

“100 percent renewable energies”: We lack the capital and the know-how to do this. Even if we are paving Barbados completely with solar collectors, the problem remains to maintain the collectors and repair them if necessary. Just take a look at the broken elevators at Harrisons Cave (was like that a year ago). I am therefore not surprised that a company from Jamaica is now running the business. It is best if the locals only handle wooden wheels. They can’t break anything.

Your damning assessment of the public service is not too far off the mark.
All the ‘bull’ talk spit out by the politicians and their ass-licking senior public sector managers is mere garbage laced with hypocrisy.
Why would the government- starved for easy revenues to meet its BERT objectives and its long-term debt obligations- embrace ‘alternative’ energy technologies when taxes on fossil fuel products make up a massive slice of its monthly tax takings?
Why would the cash-strapped government kill the ready-made fossil-fuel goose which reliably lays the golden tax revenue eggs without having an alternative Bajan yard-fowl of similar tax-generating fecundity to replace it?
If the government is really serious about climate change and energy conservation why do the managers persist in running up the electricity bill to keep Emera happy as a fire fly especially in the face of the BERT programme of austerity placed heavily on the backs of the poor?
Why do these woefully insensitive managers allow the taxpayers’ buildings to glow like perennial Xmas trees from sundown to late sunrise? Just pass by the Government HQ (Ministerial Building on Bay Street) or the new towers of ‘baking’ concrete in Warrens any time after 8.00 pm and you would swear you are driving through Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

What is food? The essential materials for life are food, water and oxygen. Of the three, food is required in the largest quantity. Almost all food is carbon dioxide, either consumed directly by plants, or indirectly when animals and humans consume plants.
We do not think of ourselves as subsisting almost entirely on carbon dioxide — we eat meat, fruits and vegetables. But the animals we eat grew and lived on plants, typically grass. Likewise, fruits and vegetables are plants, as are the trees that cover the earth. And plants consume almost entirely carbon dioxide for food.
It is true that humans, animals and plants require very small quantities of other essential material. We call ours vitamins and minerals. We call what the plants need nutrients or fertilizer. But while these materials are important, the quantities required are insignificant to life, compare to the carbon dioxide. So it is fair to say that the food used by all living things, to grow and to live, is carbon dioxide.
People are incredibly ignorant of this fundamental fact — that food is carbon dioxide. The reason is that it has not been important until now. We do not consume carbon dioxide directly, do not go to the store and get. And, more importantly, when we grow plants we do not provide the carbon dioxide they consume. They take it out of the air. The food is free!
We may work very hard to provide the water and the nutrients the plants need, as well as sunlight and protection from extreme temperature, but the food is free and we have nothing to do with providing it. So for millions of years people have grown and consumed plants and animals without knowing what they were eating. This fundamental fact was only discovered in modern times, and we still don’t understand the process very well. Even today, most people have no idea that their food, and the food all the plants and animals that cover the earth, is carbon dioxide.
But the existence of food at all is a miracle. Carbon dioxide is not abundant in the air. In fact it is very rare. Only about one molecule in 3000 in the air is carbon dioxide. So the billions of people on earth, pus the untold trillions or quadrillions of plants and animals, are all growing and living on a rare gas. That is the miracle of food”.

Climate change hoax COLLAPSES as new science finds human activity has virtually zero impact on global temperatures

The climate change hoax has collapsed. A devastating series of research papers has just been published, revealing that human activity can account for no more than a .01°C rise in global temperatures, meaning that all the human activity targeted by radical climate change alarmists — combustion engines, airplane flights, diesel tractors — has virtually no measurable impact on the temperature of the planet.
Finnish scientists spearheaded the research, releasing a paper entitled, “No Experimental Evidence for the Significant Anthropogenic Climate Change.”
The paper explains that IPCC analysis of global temperatures suffers from a glaring error — namely, failure to account for “influences of low cloud cover” and how it impacts global temperatures. Natural variations in low cloud cover, which are strongly influenced by cosmic radiation’s ability to penetrate Earth’s atmosphere due to variations in the strength of our planet’s magnetosphere, account for nearly all changes in global temperature, the researchers explain.
It goes without saying that we must not only hit the masses and their public service.
Unfortunately, the Williams brothers have had no sense for profitable business for some time.
Many gated communities on the island are only 20-30 percent developed and chronically in deficit. Port Saint Charly is not supposed to be a prime mover either. Unfortunately, we currently lack a businessman in Barbados who turns shit into gold and pulls the rest of the island with him. I wouldn’t name Maloney here. His Hyatt project is dead. But I can tell you here very confidentially 😉 that the project wasn’t a phantom at the beginning. I know that firsthand. After all, Maloney was smart enough to bury the project in time. He was much smarter than COW, who wanted to construct his Monkey Hill at any price.
The state has failed miserably to act as an entrepreneur in state enterprises. Those who call for a gov plan for the economy have not understood the system. The Prime Minister can only create the framework for doing business. We need an entrepreneurial personality with vision and strategy.
The merits of the Williams brothers should not be underestimated. But the age of golf courses has come to an end. For some time now, they have lacked the strategic sense for a good business from which the whole island would benefit. We need a younger entrepreneur with charisma to replace them. It won’t be Maloney, because his prefabricated doghouses may be suitable for students, but don’t attract any foreign capital.

Technology is very useful in modernizing. Countries that do not have a copper network for telephone can go straight to Cellular or a Series of Towers for Wi-Fi. What we have passing now for technology in Renewables is really Old Technology. To go from the way we produce Electricity now and the way we run Cars now, we need one New Inversion that would put all Windmills, Photovoltaic and Tidal out of Business and we can have unlimited energy on the earth and the lack of fresh water would be a thing of the past. Deserts would become outdated; we just have to learn by finding some type of method or Catalyst to Separate Hydrogen and Oxygen from Sea Water and burn them to Create the Energy we need and Create Fresh Water as its bye product… Now there is a Technology to look forward to in the future, not a Government wasting its time with Old Technology, like Wind and Solar Energy because they want to have a Feel Good Agenda… Don’t you think that is a worthy project that the UWI could work on?

A Far as Abrahams and Others like-minded are concerned, the Green Energy Scam is the perfect Scam because the beneficiaries include many influential individuals and institutions, while the victims are dispersed among large numbers of unorganized people.
Government agencies, and the politicians that give the agencies money, have embraced the threat of climate change. It gives them something to do that is more noble, even romantic than highways and making the trains run on time. Governments spends billions on subsidizing wind and solar energy.
The biggest victim of the green energy scam is the public in general. Everybody pays more taxes and pays more for energy as a consequence of the Scam. The public has been exposed to Relentless Propaganda Promoting green energy as beneficial and less expensive. The public is the greatest victim in this Scam, but most people don’t know that they are being victimized.
If Barbados wants to become more self sufficient it need to become more like Canada and Europe and less like the USA. Barbados is ideal for both wind and solar and they should take full advantage of that. Wanting a greener and more self sufficient Barbados.

In Barbados we like talking, but policy-making is forbidden. Of course we are in an ideal position to get 90 per cent of our energy needs from wind, solar and wave. That is a policy decision. Government could make a decision and then invite bidders.
It also is an important part of any debate about climate change – and, for those long in the tooth, should be part of any BERT (austerity) expansion plan. It is not. Why?
The answer s a poverty of ideas.
The issue here is not the policy. It is the execution of the policy. The big debate is the integration of intermittent energy without destabilizing BL&P. It is obviously a highly technical matter and require informed discussion.
