In the past few years many indigenous tribesmen from the Amazon basin have been killed or forced to relocate from traditional lands because ranchers and loggers wanted the land to expand grazing for cattle or for logging operations. Now, we have President Bolsanaro (a Trump clone, notice that the US Gov’t hasn’t made any official statement about the fires) who has been providing subtle encouragement to the ranching fraternity to expand their grazing ranges and they have responded with arson. After severe criticism from some European leaders he has now moved to send the military to combat the flames but not before he condemned them as being colonials.

Back in the 1960s, some climatologists developed predictive models of climate change that were meant to spur discussions among scholars about the POSSIBILITY that ongoing changes in world climates could eventually threaten global civilization.
The models were, and still are, based on limited historical data and are highly speculative. But in the ensuing decades they have attracted more and more attention from political activists and professional politicians.
Like a spreading rumour, the model-based predictions have been exaggerated and distorted, sometimes by climate scientists themselves, many of whom have been corrupted by the fame and generous research funding available to those who offer the most extreme predictions.
Today, every schoolboy is convinced that climate change is a man-made phenomenon; that the use of fossil fuels in industrial activities must be drastically curtailed or radically modified to prevent catastrophic changes in world climates; and even that the Amazon river basin MUST remain under forest cover to prevent further increases of carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere (because these increases are blamed for undesirable global warming.)
Predictive models are usually wrong. The only question is by how much. Not only does the underlying climate science not support some of the more outlandish claims of the climate activists, but politicians of all stripes are using climate propaganda to promote self-serving agendas.

If the G-7 nations (or their colonial satellites in the Caribbean) want Brazil to limit its economic growth and development by restricting forest-clearing agricultural and mining activities in the Amazon, how much compensation are they prepared to offer the Brazilian government?
When I did geography at a A -level ,I read the book “Tropical World” by Pierre Gourou. It dealt at length with the environmental impact of Amazonia on the regulation of the world’s climate. One thing I have always remembered is the fact of the delicate balance between poor soils and the verdant foliage found in Amazonia. The soils under the forest canopy are poor in nutrients due to the heavy rainfall and high ambient temperatures. The latter results in rapid microbial breakdown of the accumulated forest floor litter into nutrients available for plant use. However, the high rainfall although cushioned to some extent by the canopy ( canopy exist at three different levels) is still enough to result in leaching of soluble nutrients into bed-pan( bed-rock from which soils are made) of the soil profile. Removable of the forest results in severe soil erosion that ultimately affects the climate of the area. The earth is a self-regulatory according to the Gaia hypothesis and is in a finely tuned state of balance. Disruption of any of its parameters result in problems.

Of all insects, bees are the most effective and practical method for crop pollination. They can be reared in sufficient numbers and placed wherever and whenever they are required for effective pollination. It has been found that the use of hive bees results in a manifold increase in yields and improvement in the quality of produce.

Agriculture is the mainstay of the Brazilian economy, almost 18% of it. The group that controls agriculture is the most powerful and influential in the country and controls everything from culture to politics. According to NASA, fires are common in the Amazon due to the arrival of a dry season in July. Fire activity typically peaks in September before ending in November.
And even though fires are common, NASA analysis shows that current fire activity is at or below average.
As of August 16, 2019, an analysis of NASA satellite data indicated that total fire activity across the Amazon basin this year has been close to the average in comparison to the past 15 years. (The Amazon spreads across Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and parts of other countries.)
Though activity appears to be above average in the states of Amazonas and Rondônia, it has so far appeared below average in Mato Grosso and Pará, according to estimates from the Global Fire Emissions Database, a research project that compiles and analyzes NASA data.
Still, although large wildfires are concerning, the claim that the Amazon is responsible for producing 20 percent of the world’s usable oxygen is simply not true, despite being commonly cited to intensify hysteria.

Bolsonaro Greenlights New Pesticides Even as Advocates Mourn Half Billion Dead Bees in Brazil
Brazil now has 2,300 pesticides registered for use—and the rate of new pesticide authorizations under the Bolsonaro government is unprecedented, according to Mongabay.
The current authorization rate is the highest ever recorded by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) since the agency began releasing data in 2005. In comparison to the 290 pesticides approved in the first seven months of 2019, just 45 were approved over the same period during 2010. This June and July alone, MAPA published registrations for 93 new pesticides in the Official Gazette.
“In addition to the new products, a new regulatory framework to assess pesticide health risks was established in July that will reduce restrictiveness of toxicological classifications,” explained Mongabay. “Under Bolsonaro, 1,942 registered pesticides were quickly reevaluated, with the number considered extremely toxic dropped from 702 to just 43.”
Despite recent reevaluations, Bloomberg reported, “about 40 percent of Brazil’s pesticides are ‘highly or extremely toxic,’ according to Greenpeace, and 32 percent aren’t allowed in the European Union. Meanwhile, approvals are being expedited without the government hiring enough people to evaluate them, said Marina Lacorte, a coordinator at Greenpeace Brazil.”
Given those figures, Victor Pelaez—coordinator for the Observatory of the Pesticide Industry at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) in Brazil—said in an interview with Mongabay, “How do these authorizations address a concern for the health of the population and the environment?”
Pelaez also blasted the Brazilian agribusiness industry for its practice of abundantly applying pesticides.
“Instead of assessing the level of insect infestation in a crop and then doing corrective work, they act preventively and apply pesticides in an indiscriminate way. It is like trying to prevent a cancer that you don’t have,” he said. “They don’t need to keep monitoring the crop, which is much cheaper. It’s an agriculture characterized by saturation, not precision.”
When it comes to climate models and their predicttive power I am very very sceptical. This is no different from the same level of scepticism I have for economic modelling. I think the folks on the left of the climate debate have over-exaggerated their claim to the point that being labeled an alarmist bunch… is not an unreasonable assertion in my opinion .
With so many poor countries in the developing world, how are they going to achieve any level of prosperity and developmental if every project they embark on is seen from an optics of climate change? Is this a conspiracy by certain special interest group in rich countries to keep countries poor and undeveloped so as to rule over them with ODA (AID) assistance.?

“What is happening in the Amazon is not exceptional,” said Coutinho. “Take a look at Google web searches search for ‘Amazon’ and ‘Amazon Forest’ over time. Global public opinion was not as interested in the ‘Amazon tragedy’ when the situation was undeniably worse. The present moment does not justify global hysteria.”
