Solutions Barbados recently held their Annual General Meeting.  All Executive positions are for one-year terms, and Grenville Phillips II was re-elected to serve another term as President.

Politicians in all of the political parties, who participated in the last general election, know that politics is not only a very dirty game, but a cesspool of some of the worst types of behaviour.  The public gets a glimpse of how vile politics truly is, by the constant accusations of gross corruption that our Members of Parliament regularly accuse each other in our House of Assembly.

All politicians constantly face two main temptations, and the public always pays a very high price if politicians surrender to them.  Solutions Barbados Candidates are also aware of the significant harm to their professional reputations and their families if they fail in this manner.  Therefore, we have taken drastic steps to protect the public and our families, by willingly restraining ourselves.

The first temptation is accepting bribes, and politicians facing severe financial challenges are most vulnerable.  Politicians who cannot afford their mortgage payments are extremely vulnerable to accepting bribes.

To address the bribery temptation, all Solutions Barbados Candidates willingly sign a binding contract, to go bankrupt if they accept bribes.  Each Candidate’s contract is terminated at the end of each election cycle if the Candidate is not elected.  Once terminated, the contract may be renewed.

Of the 28 Solutions Barbados Candidates in the 2018 General Election, 17 chose to protect the public by renewing their contracts.  Of those who chose not to, approximately half found the cesspool of politics to dirty to continue, while the remainder chose to continue their quest with other parties, but unrestrained by our contract.

The second temptation is far more sinister – and permanent.  It is the corrupting influence of power.  British politician, Lord Acton, observably wrote over a century ago, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”

From our last general election experience, it appears to be the craving for power that can corrupt previously decent people very quickly and very easily.  It also corrupts them stealthily, so that persons are unaware of how far they have fallen.  It is this craving for power that led Judas to deceptively betray Jesus.  Deception and betrayal are the two obvious symptoms of persons corrupted by craving power.

To address the corrupting influence of craving power, Solutions Barbados Candidates have deliberately chosen not to become career politicians.  We offer ourselves to the public for two simple reasons.  The first is to bring relief to Barbadians who have had enough of the gross mismanagement and political corruption that both established parties regularly accuse the other.  The second is to actively help all Barbadians to prosper.

If voters have had enough of what they have been forced to tolerate from both established parties, and want prosperity for their households, then they are welcome to support Solutions Barbados candidates – for their own benefit.  Our economic growth plan, which was independently favourably assessed, and which the Prime Minister promised would be allowed to contend (a broken promise), can still be used to bring prosperity to Barbadian households without austerity.

We are committed to offering ourselves to properly manage the public affairs of Barbados, whenever the next general election is called.  Unlike the last election when voters felt that they needed to vote against the DLP, this time, they can choose to actually vote for something good.

If voters have not yet had enough of the dirty political game by then, then we will accept their decision as final for us.  To continue to offer ourselves to an unwilling public after the next general election, is for us, to crave power.

  2. @ David.

Personally I think it’s a good move by them to concentrate on the Mmoney as over 1000 businesses are now taking it. Once the cash out for the businesses is dealt with in a timely matter it is a fairly straight forward business.

I still would like the authorities to state if a cap will be placed on the amount of M money allowed in circulation though and how they intend to monitor and police it..

  3. @John

What was the function of the exchange do you know?

  4. It would of had to of been the conversion point in and out of the bitt. Sort of like the bitt central bank .

What they are doing is not unreasonable in that they have given people to August 29th and They have come out from now and laid their cards on the table.

Can’t therefore fault them for the way they handled the exit from this segment of their business.

  5. @ David.

Plus the Mmoney will be attractive to alot of the younger crowd as the transaction is practically instant. By that I mean if I pay you, you get the funds in seconds. You can then take that and buy an item in a business taking it seconds after receiving the funds.

Of course that has both good and bad in it some would argue. The questions the authorities must answer us, if they know are these. What is the amount of M money in circulation today? Secondly at what amount will the circulation be capped?

  6. In a statement, the fintech firm advised: “After years of serving you, the Bitt Exchange will cease all operations at 4 p.m. on August 29, 2019. Since you will no longer be able to sell or buy Bitcoin via this Exchange, we ask that you close your account with us before that time and date.”

  7. Bitt said it was closing the Exchange service to focus on its blockchain-based central bank digital currencies and Mmoney retail transaction business.

Don’t worry about me thankfully I had my run and am now just crusing along and hoping to live and enjoy it, hence you know nothing about me, but usually when people lack defence they go on the offensive.

Now as for you I trust after you spirited defence based on no more but what must be personal benefit, you remember to submit your bill to them for settlement in Bitcoin prior to August 29th.

If you can not discuss and debate based on facts then find someone else to sink into the gutter of personal attack with.

  9. @ hants

As I said to David above we can’t fault them for this decision. They have stated their case and laid their cards on the table from early giving fair notice of their intention.

Once the closing of the exchange goes smoothly then it is no more than a business call that they are entitled to make.

On the Mmoney side though the authorities need to come to us with answers in terms of regulation, current volume in circulation and what cap if any will be placed on its circulation to protect all involved.

For the loyalist incapable of understanding why this is important I fear there is little I can add.

  10. Not so fast….
    Slow down
Can you tell me what ” Since you will no longer be able to sell or buy Bitcoin via this Exchange, we ask that you close your account with us before that time and date.” means.

Does it mean I have to sell my bitcoin to someone at Bitt who will hoard them and with the hope that the price reaches $1000,000?
Do these customers really have bitcoins (redeemable anywhere) or do they have Bittcoins (redeemable only at Bitt)?
    Bitt hold the bitcoins…

    Slow down

  14. @The0gazerts

Ah now that is where I said earlier the authorities need to come in and ensure that the consumers are protected and fully redeemed. The company has made its intent clear. The authorities now must ensure that all who have approached them for redemption have been properly dealt with.

I have asked on earlier blogs as to the value and volume of this in circulation and gotten no answers from the authorities.

If they don’t know how will they know if full redemption has in fact taken place on August 30th?

“Did Atherley say last week that there is no Budget allocated under a separate head for the LoO? His office has to rely on the good grace of the clerk of parliament.”
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Now this provides a different perspective to that of being entitled to taxpayers’ funding because he now represents and leads a political party machinery in parliament.

If the money is for the funding of the office of the Constitutionally-recognized Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition then what is the problem?

Why is that Office which is necessary for the wheels of the Bajan Westminster government to turn being denied funding?

Did it occur under previous holders like Thompson and Arthur?
    Why now?
Which office/ agency of the Executive Arm of the State is responsible for the Affairs of Parliament?
If the PM then it certainly leaves a lot to be desired.

What a massive oversight by the MoF while trying to pander to BERT!

  16. Bitt’s web site has improved in appearance;
The consumer part of it is very smooth and shows great creativity.
There is no mention of Bitcoin
They scared me a little though .Went to part of the site and they mention “white label”
    My head start to spin
    white label
    Black label rum
    Black Oak rum
    White Oak
The use of the phrase “white label” at the this time may not be the best PR move

  17. @ David

Yes the guys have laid the facts out no problem. What we are asking from the authorities is what supervisory plans do they have in place to monitor the transactions and final closing.

I mean this is a chance for government to test what legislation is in place to protect us in such events.

Ogazerts concerns are therefore fair ones.

  18. In financial services, white label means branding a product as yours when in fact it is run by another firm from behind the scene.

  19. FAQ does not address the questions asked.
Bitcoin is mentioned nowhere on the updated site..
Perhaps the FAQ you were provided with is different from that online 🙂

  20. It would for instance be of interest to find out if at the close of business today the government Can tell us the total value of bitt in circulation.

How close a hand does government have on information like this?

Do they get up to date info daily, weekly or monthly for instance?

These are The questions that need asking of government not the guys at BITT.

I sent your drawing to my financial team and they provided me with a report.

To: TheOGazerts Restructuring Company (Our fees do not exceed $10M)
    From: TheOGazerts Investment Division
    Re: Schematic

Mr Gazerts, the schematic has a level of complexity that is not required. for your financial transactions.
You have often sent large sums of money (directly) from your bank to my bank and your bank immediately sends an email indicating the transaction has occurred. There are no third persons (NCPI) involved.

The schematic does not signal an advance of technology, but is similar to someone going to Western Union (a third party) and transferiing money.

We cannot assess how the third party will be involved or will makes it money and expect that at some stage there will be fees attached to these transactions.

Please ask FC for additional schematics

  28. BU would not talk about tjis issue
The govt is not being transparent about this issue
Truth unlike milk does not sour
Now go ahead and cuss the messenger

Government has racked up about $143 million in arrears on its foreign debt.

The amount was accumulated between June 2018, when Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley suspended debt payments due to external commercial creditors, and the last 12 months.

Former government Senator Jepter Ince made this disclosure, while stressing “we are heading for trouble”.

“So, when the Democratic Labour Party demitted office our foreign debt was BDS$1.6 billion… The new government hasn’t paid a cent in foreign debt since May 24, 2018. I am therefore challenging the Minister of Finance – if Jepter Ince is wrong, then come say to the public ‘Jepter Ince you are a liar!’ We are now running arrears of $143 million on our foreign debt.”

Ince, who ran for the DLP’s St. George North seat in the last general election was at the time addressing the public meeting “One Year Later: Who is Smiling Today” held at The St. Michael School on Sunday night.

He explained that every country that defaulted on its international debt have run the risk of devaluation.

Moreover, he has called on Prime Minister Mottley, the Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment not to turn a blind eye to the arrears.

“Nobody talks about the arrears, even the Central Bank doesn’t talk about the arrears on the international debt. I am saying to them deal with those arrears because every country in the world that defaulted on its international debt and ran arrears had a devaluation and I do not want that for Barbados… Come and tell the public what is happening with our international debt and the arrears.”

Ince further pointed out, “They said to the public of Barbados that our foreign reserves were in dire straits. But, despite all of the talk about the foreign reserves none of the car importers in Barbados complained about not being able to bring in vehicles. Every crop over the stores were filled, nobody complained about the shortage of goods. None of the supermarkets complained about the shortage of goods.

“Now they are borrowing money to prop up our foreign reserves… The Democratic Labour Party said that we are going to try to earn foreign reserves, that we would borrow if it is necessary. So, when you hear all this talk about foreign reserves up with borrowed money, we are running this country down a dangerous path in the last 12 months on borrowed money

  29. May 24th 2018 would go down in the history books as the day bajans cast their vote that tied a hangmans noose of economic regression around their necks
Let’s not be fooled this regression can go on for years as the hangman tightens the noose in search of more blood

  30. The biggest irony is if a general election were held tomorrow the DLP is neither ready to contest or would they win a single seat, again.

  31. The path that this govt has placed this country makes it easier enough for any opposition to win
When people feet are being placed on hot coals and some one steps in to remove the offer is accepted
Last govt lost at the polls and right now it is also being revealed that the people is losing big time as govt press forward with a hostile economic agenda that makes life unbearable for the people

  32. @ freedom

Let me break it down for you what is meant when the word ” police” is applied to capital.

Let us say for easy discussion that M money is a new currency being infused into the system. The M is being sold to buyers for local currency, so the M money replaces the real money as a way of commerce agreed?

Ok so we now have say only for discussion, 1000 units of M replacing 1000 bds dollars. So where the regulators must get involved is to ensure the ability of the companies who take the M to always be paid in real currency.

So if my rum shop takes M from a client for payment of an item, I have to then be guaranteed that I can present those M’s to your people for real money. That is where the authorities come into play as they must Police the system ensuring balance is kept.

Now remember the Ms once sold to the buyer are owned by the buyer. When the buyer goes to a store and buys, the M is then owned by the store. So when you say why I want the ” authorities to police people money, ” the money stop belonging to Abed from the time the client bought it. The system therefore must protect the buyer of the M and the company that is paid with the M.

If that is not done and balance ensured, it is there at that point that any currency, be it digital or otherwise will collapse leaving the holders of it holding the bag.

The authorities must therefore establish how much M they are comfortable with in the system and cap it at that. This then protects all involved.

It’s like a company trading on the stock exchange for instance, they just can’t sell shares because they feel like. The shares issued must be supported by the financials of the company and their ability to carry it.

Hope that helps to explain my concern as it has nothing to do with my personal view of the owners, as I don’t care about personalities or politics.

  33. Mariposa you really repeating what the physical deficit man said at the Dems headquarters?Mr Ince was part of the Dems economic team that caused Barbados 24 downgrades to virtual junk bond status. Why would any bajan want to hear any advice coming from him, perhaps with the exception of of Fractured Dunce and yourself ,T Inniss seems to have left you high and dry.In my view ,Mr Ince ,Ms Depeiza, who suddenly wants transparency but none when Mr Stuart was silent, and Mrs Sandiford -Garner and you could all take a hike,as few wish to hear anything from any of you.

  34. Freedom Crier Avatar

@ John 2 2 …RE “These are The questions that need asking of government not the guys at BITT.”

Why don’t you ask the Banks that? BITTS Business is Minuscule compared to the banks.

You’re Mistake as far as Freedom Understands it’s that BITT takes your Deposit and gives you an Electronic means of Spending your own money. The person who receives the money pay a small Transaction Fee compared to what the Banks Charge.

You have your money as Electronic money instead of Paper money or money in a Bank. And you now want to put somebody in-between your money and your money, besides it being the most protected form of money being exchanged by it using Bloc Chain.

If Freedom had to guess you worked for some type of Government Organization or Semi Government Organisation or some Financial Institution whose whole life is surrounded and Controlled by Rules and the Observance of those Rules.

It never matters how much money is in the System, it is like your money in the Bank. Do you Question how much money the Bank has?

On Top of That you Do Not Question how a Bank Manufactures money!

If you sell your house for a Million dollars, you do not walk around with a Million Dollars you put it in a Bank thinking it is safe. The bank pays you a ¼% Interest and they lend it out for 5%. The man that they lend it too end up getting say $800,000 the other $200,000 goes to the Central Bank (I think they call it Central Banking Reserves). The man with the $800,000 buys goods and services from people who deposit money in the Bank. The Bank lends out $640,000 with the $160,000 that is missing that goes to the Central Banking Reserves. Then they lend it to someone who wants to buy a house for $640,000 and it goes on and on. And the $640,000 is lent as $518,000 is lent as $409,000 is lent as $324, 000 is lent as $256,000 is lent as $204,000 is lent as $164,000 is lent as $130,000 is lent as $104,00, is lent as $82,000 is lent as $66,000, is lent as $53,000,…Now let’s Add how much they have lent on the million Dollars. So with your One Million Dollars that you put in a Traditional Bank, the Bank has lent so far $3,670,000.

So in Essence, the Bank is giving you a ¼% for your Million Dollars and is Charging Customers 5% when they lend them $3,670,000
    .
On Top of That, you think that you Million Dollars are in the Bank, but they have already accumulated $3,670,000 in Debt for that Million.

BITTS Mmoney is not a Bank so they do not Manufacture the money like a Bank do, Every Dollar in Mmoney, is backed by $1 Bajan.

In the Bank every Dollar you put in there is Loaned out for 3.6 times the Dollar. The Amount in Loan by the Banks, Barbados does not have it in paper money. It is All Fictional. Because you believe it is so then it must be so.

Why do you think that Banks want you to put your money and to Deal with it all Electronically? It is All done through I.O.U.’S and you want to Police Mmoney? You have to be Kidding!

Any New Way of Handing Money like Mmoney has to be Allowed to Grow first. It has a Big Potential …Let it Grow!

Can’t you see Mariposa is a DLP yardfowl?

Verla Depieza and her gang of DLP misfits/thugs are doing the same thing as Mottley when she was in Opposition…..

…… criticising everything the government has been doing and asking people to protest and speak out against the government.

But after ONE YEAR, Depieza and no other member of the DLP HAS 9not brought any solutions to solve our economic woes.

  37. @ Mariposa

So the DLP BORROWED when it was necessary ( CS loan).
They would have BORROWED AGAIN IF IT WAS NECESSARY.

What kind of RH logic you and Jesper trying to push?

DLP BORROWED and would have BORROWED again but the BLP wrong to BORROW?????

    COME AGAIN!!!!!

  38. @Grenville Phillips II.

To repeat the question asked by Hal Austin, who are the other elected office holders in Solutions Barbados? I find it unbelievable that having lost all the prominent member of your 2018 election slate of candidates to Joe Atherley’s group, you have the gall to tell Barbadians an AGM was held and you were re-elected president. Were a vice-president, secretary and treasurer elected at the AGM? The same question must be asked of the People’s Party for Democracy and Development and that is why I referred to it as a group. What is even more worrying about Atherley’s group is his statement regarding informing the authorities of his party’s existence since November 2018.
Are these political parties or clans you guys formed?

  39. “To tell me We have repeatedly stated that you may seek verification that a favourable assessment was done from the now former president of ICAB. Have you done so? is pure absurdity in my view!”

“YOU have drafted the economic plan; YOU have claimed it’s veracity and validity to boost our economy; YOU have sought the verification from this gentleman (or lady) and YOU presented yourself to us offering these ‘gladtidings’…”

    de pedantic Dribbler

    You are correct!!!

Is Mr. Phillips II FORCING the electorate to ACCEPT the ASSESSMENT of ONE individual because he/she was a “FORMER PRESIDENT of ICAB?”

What about an assessment from the Barbados Economic Society (BES), or UWI’s Department of Economics, or from Michael Howard, Dr. Delisle Worrell, Marla Dukharan or any other economist?

I cannot understand why Mr. Phillips II is COMPLICATING this simple issue, when he could simply present the assessment for our perusal.

Similarly to how he is always on about having Solutions Barbados’ economic policies in the public domain for the past few years to undergo “vigorous scrutiny,” why can’t he present this “favourable assessment” for vigorous scrutiny as well?

  40. Hmmmmm……

Seems as though “Looney Toons” is the self-appointed Solutions Barbados’ “public relations officer” and the official interpreter of Mr. Phillips II’s “words, thoughts and deeds.”

Ironically, Alan Springer, Paul Gibson, Scott Weatherhead and Irvin Belgrave, who were at the helm of disputes within Solutions Barbados, and are among the 5 former SB’s candidates that joined Atherley.

“Looney Toons” wrote: “Those who jumped Ship saw an opening because the party they were involved in did not win at that time. SO BEING OF THE CAREER POLITICIAN MIND SET, they Choose willingly to Choose a Party that was not Bound by Such a Moral Code of Ethics.”

But read what Mr. Phillips II wrote:

“The second temptation is far more sinister – and permanent. It is the corrupting influence of power.”

“From our last general election experience, it appears to be the craving for power that can corrupt previously decent people very quickly and very easily. It also corrupts them stealthily, so that persons are unaware of how far they have fallen. It is this CRAVING for POWER that led Judas to deceptively BETRAY Jesus. DECEPTION and BETRAYAL are the TWO OBVIOUS SYMPTOMS of persons CORRUPTED by CRAVING POWER.”

“To ADDRESS the CORRUPTING INFLUENCE of CRAVING POWER, Solutions Barbados Candidates have DELIBERATELY chosen NOT to BECOME career politicians.”

Since, according to “Looney Tunes,” these 5 guys are “OF THE CAREER POLITICIAN MIND SET,”……….

………obviously means, (and according to Mr. Phillips II), they “succumbed” to “the second temptation” ………… “the corrupting influence of craving power.”

And, also according to Mr. Phillips II, “DECEPTION and BETRAYAL are the TWO OBVIOUS SYMPTOMS of persons CORRUPTED by CRAVING POWER.”

  41. Who are the other elected officials of Solutions, apart from Junior, the president?

  42. My question to all blp supporters and govt when will be a commitment to the people of having an economic growth plan in helping to remove the buden of taxes placed on the backs of the people
This contiuation of high taxation double with out of control high prices is unconscionable and should be adressed by govt
Talk of increase foreign reserves does nothing to help the poor pocket books

  43. The answer, it took 10 years for the DLP to pull the country to junk, it will take more than one year to drag it back up.

  44. David your answer is a yard fowl response
Furthermore the last govt did not build a 15billion debt in 10years
Unless u have Alhemzeir the present leader Mia was a minister in a blp govt that reigned for 14years that helped contribute to the debt

  45. Coming from you that is a compliment because it redefines the word yardfowl. No go back to Andre and Irene’s Facebook wall and gather.

  46. David u still did not answer the question of govt creating a sustainable growth plan
Your attacking me speaks to your mindset of protecting this govt intention of pain snd suffering on the people

  47. @ David,

the BLP should introduce a bill to honour the last iteration of the DLP for pulling “the country into junk” in just 10 years after it was handed a pristine, well run civil service and economically stellar island by Owen Arthur and the BLP.

if that doesnt qualify for honours i dont know what would

  48. What was the DLP growth plan and how much growth did they achieved when they governed?

  49. @The0gazerts
