Jesus was the first gene-spliced man. Human mother, divine Father.” Shekinah Medical Centre advertisement, “Gene Therapy“, April 14 Sunday Sun

The idea of divine beings producing children with human mothers is as ancient as mankind itself. Zeus was so prodigious in the siring of offspring with human mothers that an entire cadre of Immortals, such as Hercules, came to permeate much of Greek mythology. That such beliefs are scoffed at today by many of the same individuals who believe their God impregnated Mary simply demonstrates the grip superstition continues to hold on minds that should have evolved more fully over the millennia.

The action of a man who volunteers to die for his fellow men is universally regarded as noble. The extra claim not to have “really” died makes the whole sacrifice tricky and meretricious. (Thus, those who say “Christ died for my sins,” when he did not really “die” at all, are making a statement that is false in its own terms.)

Having no reliable or consistent witnesses, in anything like the time period needed to certify such an extraordinary claim, we are finally entitled to say that we have a right, if not an obligation, to respect ourselves enough to disbelieve the entire claim of Jesus’ Resurrection.

Hercules was not the son of Zeus. Jesus is not the Son of God. Can we not believe this and yet still find his precepts for living with Earth’s fellow inhabitants worthy of emulation? Or are Jesus’ prescriptions and proscriptions only valid if tinged with the Divine?

  1. It would be GOOD if some critics could simply ask questions without all the bile because they are obviously lacking in the understanding of some of the very basics.

    To all Christians

I wish you a reflective day. A day in which you ask what have I learnt about the reported ministry of Jesus ,the Christ. There is so much one can learn about man and his behaviour. Moreover, you have a template by which you can navigate new and uncharted waters. Have faith; God is in Heaven and all is well on Earth. Avoid vexatious persons as they seek to usher in the work of their masters.

  3. Most of wunna here are so indoctrinated by your ancestor’s religion, a religion that was forced upon them by their owners, are willing to believe anything and everything that men wrote in a book 3000 years ago.

I can see why dictators have so much power over men. They wield the sword of fear in the hearts of men so they can control them. This ideology is not only political but also religious. The fear of a wrathful and vengeful God has made men kill and maim to show their love and obedience to an invisible being whom many say they have heard and followed instructions given. The proclaim their love to this invisible being a love that they put above all others earthly beings.

Religious people make things up as they go along saying that is how their God wants it, however bizarre it sounds. When something good happens they praise their God. When something terrible occurs they say that it is punishment and that God knows best. The black man was given a picture of a white man on a cross and have that image imprinted in their DNA that many cannot and will not shake it off, even though the said man on the cross was from an area where the people were not white skinned and blonde haired. If anyone of another race claim to this man who many believe will come back from the skies on a cloud , he would be run out of town or killed for posing as the dead God man.

When the African, says that their Voodoo religion is powerful the Christians label it as evil. Isn’t it amazing how the Black Christians abhor the thought there could be another religion from their motherland is as powerful as theirs. The white religious Evangelicals are moving swiftly into Africa to convert the savage African to their religion. The African instead of extinguishing them they are welcomed with open arms. History repeating itself all over again. The black man must be tamed and civilized! He must obey the white God and thus keep him mentally enslaved to rob him of everything he owns; his dignity, his wealth and his mind.

  8. SCIENCE AND THE BIBLE FOR BU DUMMIES

Only in recent years has science discovered that everything we see is composed of invisible atoms. Here, Scripture tells us that the “things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
Medical science has only recently discovered that blood-clotting in a newborn reaches its peak on the eighth day, then drops. The Bible consistently says that a baby must be circumcised on the eighth day.
At a time when it was believed that the earth sat on a large animal or a giant (1500 B.C.), the Bible spoke of the earth’s free float in space: “He…hangs the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7).
The prophet Isaiah also tells us that the earth is round: “It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22). This is not a reference to a flat disk, as some skeptic maintain, but to a sphere. Secular man discovered this 2,400 years later. At a time when science believed that the earth was flat, is was the Scriptures that inspired Christopher Columbus to sail around the world (see Proverbs 3:6 footnote).
God told Job in 1500 B.C.: “Can you send lightnings, that they may go, and say to you, Here we are?” (Job 38:35). The Bible here is making what appears to be a scientifically ludicrous statement—that light can be sent, and then manifest itself in speech. But did you know that radio waves travel at the speed of light? This is why you can have instantaneous wireless communication with someone on the other side of the earth. Science didn’t discover this until 1864 when “British scientist James Clerk Maxwell suggested that electricity and light waves were two forms of the same thing” (Modern Century Illustrated Encyclopedia).
Job 38:19 asks, “Where is the way where light dwells?” Modern man has only recently discovered that light (electromagnetic radiation) has a “way,” traveling at 186,000 miles per second.
Science has discovered that stars emit radio waves, which are received on earth as a high pitch. God mentioned this in Job 38:7: “When the morning stars sang together…”
“Most cosmologists (scientists who study the structures and evolution of the universe) agree that the Genesis account of creation, in imagining an initial void, may be uncannily close to the truth” (Time, Dec. 1976).
Solomon described a “cycle” of air currents two thousand years before scientists “discovered” them. “The wind goes toward the south, and turns about unto the north; it whirls about continually, and the wind returns again according to his circuits” (Ecclesiastes 1:6).
Science expresses the universe in five terms: time, space, matter, power, and motion. Genesis 1:1,2 revealed such truths to the Hebrews in 1450 B.C.: “In the beginning [time] God created [power] the heaven [space] and the earth [matter] . . . And the Spirit of God moved [motion] upon the face of the waters.” The first thing God tells man is that He controls of all aspects of the universe.
The great biological truth concerning the importance of blood in our body’s mechanism has been fully comprehended only in recent years. Up until 120 years ago, sick people were “bled,” and many died because of the practice. If you lose your blood, you lose your life. Yet Leviticus 17:11, written 3,000 years ago, declared that blood is the source of life: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood.”
All things were made by Him (see John 1:3), including dinosaurs. Why then did the dinosaur disappear? The answer may be in Job 40:15–24. In this passage, God speaks about a great creature called “behemoth.” Some commentators think this was a hippopotamus. However, the hippo’s tail isn’t like a large tree, but a small twig. Following are the characteristics of this huge animal: It was the largest of all the creatures God made; was plant-eating (herbivorous); had its strength in its hips and a tail like a large tree. It had very strong bones, lived among the trees, drank massive amounts of water, and was not disturbed by a raging river. He appears impervious to attack because his nose could pierce through snares, but Scripture says, “He that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.” In other words, God caused this, the largest of all the creatures He had made, to become extinct.
Encyclopedia Britannica documents that in 1845, a young doctor in Vienna named Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis was horrified at the terrible death rate of women who gave birth in hospitals. As many as 30 percent died after giving birth. Semmelweis noted that doctors would examine the bodies of patients who died, then, without washing their hands, go straight to the next ward and examine expectant mothers. This was their normal practice, because the presence of microscopic diseases was unknown. Semmelweis insisted that doctors wash their hands before examinations, and the death rate immediately dropped to 2 percent. Look at the specific instructions God gave His people for when they encounter disease: “And when he that has an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself even days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean” (Leviticus 15:13). Until recent years, doctors washed their hands in a bowl of water, leaving invisible germs on their hands. However, the Bible says specifically to wash hands under “running water.”
Luke 17:34–36 says the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will occur while some are asleep at night and others are working at daytime activities in the field. This is a clear indication of a revolving earth, with day and night at the same time.
“During the devastating Black Death of the fourteenth century, patients who were sick or dead were kept in the same rooms as the rest of the family. People often wondered why the disease was affecting so many people at one time. They attributed these epidemics to ‘bad air’ or ‘evil spirits.’ However, careful attention to the medical commands of God as revealed in Leviticus would have saved untold millions of lives. Arturo Castiglione wrote about the overwhelming importance of this biblical medical law: ‘The laws against leprosyin Leviticus 13 may be regarded as the first model of sanitary legislation’ (A History of Medicine).” Grant R. Jeffery, The Signature of God With all these truths revealed in Scripture, how could a thinking person deny that the Bible is supernatural in origin? There is no other book in any of the world’s religions (Vedas, Bhagavad-Gita, Koran, Book of Mormon, etc.) that contains scientific truth. In fact, they contain statements that are clearly unscientific. Hank Hanegraaff said, “Faith in Christ is not some blind leap into a dark chasm, but a faith based on established evidence.” (11:3 continued)

    Re “Who wrote the bible”

The Bible is a Collection of Books written by Prophets that were Inspired of God…Those words have Power unto Salvation, they are His words bequeathed to men for their Enlightenment.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God… (2 Tim. 3:16).

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:20-21).

Some of the Scriptures have been changed they were originally written in Latin and subsequent from the Latin by great Scholars would try to be true to the original intent in the Latin language. There is the Catholic Version, there is the King James Version and they are other versions. Some of the newer versions try to impose their understanding into the translation rather than use the original intent. If you use the Catholic or King James Version you cannot go wrong.

Re…“However a reality that man wrote rewrite and revised the Word
A higher than higher possibility that some words or comments attributed to Jesus could be tainted by man rush for selfgratification.”

The Four Gospels written in the New Testament may have some differences but they do not Contradict one another and the Gospel according to Luke as recorded after Jesus’s death was done by Luke going around inquiring about the life of Jesus. Yet they are all remarkably similar.

How could that be when tge symbol of his remeberance meant that Jesus would been leaving them for a long time”

    Genesis 14:18-20 (KJV)

18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

Here is a High Priest performing this ordinance in Genesis and Christ said it because that ordinance was done in Remembrance of him. Christ simply re-instituted it with his Apostles.

  12. MORE SCIENCE VS THE BIBLE FOR BU DUMMIES

IS THE BIBLE AT ODDS WITH SCIENCE?
The Bible tells us that miracles happen! The birth of Jesus to a virgin, and His resurrection from the grave are cardinal elements in the faith of Christians. The origin of life itself stems from the mind and act of God. Incredibly, some scientists teach that we evolved from single cells, which in turn developed over billions of years from electrical charges. In the face of the amazing complexity of living beings, they still find no evidence of intelligent design in the universe.

Thus science is often pitted against the Bible, but everything depends on what we mean by science. Science is based on careful observation, on precise description of natural events and phenomena. Scientific conclusions are based solely on reasoning from factual evidence. Every Christian should have great respect for the scientific method and accept its validity. However, some well-meaning Christians take the position that science and the Bible are implacable enemies, and they go through life with a chip on their shoulders. This attitude contributes nothing to anyone’s understanding.

Unfortunately, some scientists regard the Bible as an antiquated collection of myths and primitive nonsense. In their worldview there is no place for intelligent design. Once they have dismissed the Bible they look down on believers as people still trapped in their outdated faith systems. The two sides appear to be locked in endless conflict.

Clearly science has made astonishing discoveries and exposed entrenched beliefs as false. Every Christian should support the quest of science as it seeks to uncover and understand the amazing mysteries of the universe. One’s sense of wonder at the complexity and enormity of the universe can only be deepened and enriched.

At the same time, some scientists fall into the trap of calling theories facts when they are only theories. This actually violates the scientific method. Among these enormous and unproved assumptions are those concerning the origin of life and the denial of the supernatural. For such scientists, the conclusion is that we got here by chance and will end up in nothingness. This position is fundamentally unsupportable, and the Bible provides a wonderful and totally reasonable alternative. It is an alternative that involves faith in the timeless existence of the being the Bible calls God.

There is a very sinister idea making the rounds these days, an idea even taught in the schools as the truth. That idea is that science is grounded only in facts and religion is grounded solely in faith in the Bible. Therefore, the theory goes, when it comes to the origin of life, evolution may be taught in the schools, but not creation. The truth is that both of these views are grounded in a huge leap of faith and both claim to be reasonable. The creationist indeed places her faith in intelligent design, and finds in this faith a reasonable explanation of life and its origin. However, the evolutionist also operates by faith: faith in the inexplicable and wholly random origin of something out of nothing! Make no mistake, this is a leap of faith, an astounding assumption not based on any observable facts. For Christians, faith in intelligent design as explanation for the origin of life is far more reasonable than faith in randomness and blind chance.

When it comes to miracles, it is fair to conclude that they lie outside of science, but are not opposed to science. God can and does intervene in history, so scientists (and all of us) do well to be humble in the face of miracle. But Christians (and everybody else as well) also do well not to call something a miracle just because we don’t understand it. When both these positions are understood and accepted, science and the Bible are not at odds. They are both gifts from God.

Let’s remember, too, that the Bible is not a scientific textbook. Although Christians accept the Bible as entirely true, it does not use scientific terminology. After all, it was written thousands of years ago! So it uses terms such as “sunrise” and “sunset”, even though we know that the sun does not rise or set. The Bible is a casebook of divine love and admonition, as well as the very human response of failure and triumph.
So although the Bible is not a scientific treatise, it is our guidebook for life. It teaches us amazement in the face of life’s mysteries. On our sickbed when all the answers of science have been exhausted, we throw ourselves on the hope so wonderfully described in the Bible. We live here by faith and reach for life beyond the grave. In its pages we find the story of our origin and destiny. Has it become your guidebook, too?

  15. MORE SCIENCE VS THE BIBLE FOR BU BIBLE ILLITERATES AND DUMMIES

    The Bible’s answer
Yes, for although the Bible is not a science textbook, it is accurate when it mentions matters of science. Consider some examples showing that science and the Bible agree and that the Bible contains scientific facts that differed greatly from the beliefs of many people living at the time it was written.
    • The universe had a beginning. (Genesis 1:1) In contrast, many ancient myths describe the universe, not as being created, but as being organized from existing chaos. The Babylonians believed that the gods that gave birth to the universe came from two oceans. Other legends say that the universe came from a giant egg.
    • The universe is governed day-to-day by rational natural laws, not by the whims of deities. (Job 38:33; Jeremiah 33:25) Myths from around the world teach that humans are helpless before the unpredictable and sometimes merciless acts of the gods.
    • The earth is suspended in empty space. (Job 26:7) Many ancient peoples believed that the world was a flat disk supported by a giant or an animal, such as a buffalo or a turtle.
    • Rivers and springs are fed by water that has evaporated from the oceans and other sources and then has fallen back to earth as rain, snow, or hail. (Job 36:27, 28; Ecclesiastes 1:7; Isaiah 55:10; Amos 9:6) The ancient Greeks thought that rivers were fed by underground ocean water, and this idea persisted into the 18th century.
    • The mountains rise and fall, and today’s mountains were once under the ocean. (Psalm 104:6, 8) In contrast, several myths say that the mountains were created in their current form by the gods.
    • Sanitary practices protect health. The Law given to the nation of Israel included regulations for washing after touching a dead body, quarantining those with infectious disease, and disposing of human waste safely. (Leviticus 11:28; 13:1-5; Deuteronomy 23:13) By contrast, one of the Egyptian remedies in use when these commands were given called for applying to an open wound a mixture that included human excrement.
Are there scientific errors in the Bible?
A reasonable examination of the Bible shows the answer to be no. Here are some common misconceptions about the scientific accuracy of the Bible:
Myth: The Bible says that the universe was created in six 24-hour days.
Fact: According to the Bible, God created the universe in the indefinite past. (Genesis 1:1) Also, the days of creation described in chapter 1 of Genesis were epochs whose length is not specified. In fact, the entire period during which earth and heaven were made is also called a “day.”—Genesis 2:4.
Myth: The Bible says that vegetation was created before the sun existed to support photosynthesis.—Genesis 1:11, 16.
Fact: The Bible shows that the sun, one of the stars that make up “the heavens,” was created before vegetation. (Genesis 1:1) Diffused light from the sun reached the earth’s surface during the first “day,” or epoch, of creation. As the atmosphere cleared, by the third “day” of creation, the light was strong enough to support photosynthesis. (Genesis 1:3-5, 12, 13) Only later did the sun become distinctly visible from the surface of the earth.—Genesis 1:16.
Myth: The Bible says that the sun revolves around the earth.
Fact: Ecclesiastes 1:5 says: “The sun rises, and the sun sets; then it hurries back to the place where it rises again.” However, this statement merely describes the apparent motion of the sun as viewed from the earth. Even today, a person can use the words “sunrise” and “sunset,” yet he knows that the earth revolves around the sun.
Myth: The Bible says that the earth is flat.
Fact: The Bible uses the phrase “the ends of the earth” to mean “the most distant part of the earth”; this does not imply that the earth is flat or that it has an edge. (Acts 1:8; footnote) Likewise, the expression “the four corners of the earth” is a figure of speech referring to the entire surface of the earth; today a person might use the four points of the compass as a similar metaphor.—Isaiah 11:12; Luke 13:29.
Myth: The Bible says that the circumference of a circle is exactly three times its diameter, but the correct value is pi (π), or about 3.1416.
Fact: The measurements of “the Sea of cast metal” given at 1 Kings 7:23 and 2 Chronicles 4:2 indicate that it had a diameter of 10 cubits and that “it took a measuring line 30 cubits long to encircle it.” These dimensions might have been merely the nearest round numbers. It is also possible that the circumference and diameter represented inner and outer measurements of the basin respectively.
The Bible does not contain statements that are scientifically inaccurate. They do not make the same absurd mistakes that were made by others living in their day. But the Bible goes further in that it foresees scientific discoveries before they were known to the world at large.

During the time the Bible was being composed there was much superstition and ignorance concerning the nature and function of the universe. Though no nation or sacred writings were immune to superstition, the Bible is a notable exception. We do not find the biblical writers committing the same types of errors as their contemporaries. Kenny Barfield writes:

We might well wonder if there could be among all the so-called revelations of the worlds religions one document that is untouched by the foibles and fallacies of men, one record that reveals an accurate understanding of man and nature, one collection of writings that holds an immutable relationship to scientific truth? One book – and only one – can meet these qualifications. It is known as the Bible . . . .

There is no evidence that any one group of people is inherently more or less intelligent than another. It should also be noted that various cultures have made important progress in the sciences. This progress is understandable on the basis of human genius, equally present in all peoples. Interestingly, within this equality of people is an amazing disparity in certain “sacred writings.” The disparity should not be there. But it is (Kenny Barfield, Why The Bible is Number 1, Grand Rapids: Baker Book House, 1988, pp. 9,10).

  16. MORE INFO FOR BU BIBLE ILLITERATES ABOUT THE BIBLE AND SCIENCE

    Science Foreseen

The biblical writers not only avoided scientific errors, they also were able to foresee scientific discoveries years ahead of their time. The following examples should demonstrate that the biblical writers were given information that their contemporaries did not have.

    Earth Not Supported

The Scripture also says that the earth hangs in space:

He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing (Job 26:7).

This idea was an oddity in the ancient world, for most people believed the earth was supported by something.

    Stars Innumerable

The Bible also speaks of innumerable stars:

As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured (Jeremiah 33:22).

Before the telescope was invented, people believed they could count the stars. Even the great astronomer Johann Kepler numbered the stars at slightly over one thousand. Not until modern times did man realize that numbering the stars is an impossibility.

    Circularity Of The Earth

The Bible speaks of the circularity of the earth:

It is He who sits above the circle of the earth (Isaiah 40:22).

Early man usually viewed the earth as being flat.

    Dietary Regulations

The Israelites were forbidden to eat the flesh of any animal that had died a natural death:

You shall not eat anything that dies of itself (Deuteronomy 14:21).

Today we know that dead animals can carry lice, flies, and fleas. Each of these are carriers of disease.

    Quarantine Of Contagious Diseases

God ordered those who had contagious diseases to be separated from the rest of the camp:

Now the leper on whom the sore is, his clothes shall be torn and his head bare; and he shall cover his mustache, and cry, Unclean! Unclean! He shall be unclean. All the days he has the sore he shall be unclean. He is unclean, and he shall dwell alone; his habitation shall be outside the camp (Leviticus 13:45,46).

The Bible is the only book in the ancient world that ordered this practice.

    Water Supply

The children of Israel were forbidden to drink water from small or stagnant pools or from water that had been contaminated by coming into contact with animals or meat (Leviticus 11:29-36). It is only in the last 100 years that medical science has learned that contaminated water can cause typhoid and cholera.

    Rabbits And Pork

Today humans eat rabbits and pork, although both are susceptible to infectious parasites. The children of Israel were not allowed to eat either of these animals. Though they may be cleanly fed and well-cooked, they both can be a source of disease. Roasting pork over an open flame is not sufficient to kill the parasites that could have attached themselves to the animal. Parasites can also be transmitted by the mere handling of pork. Consequently, the children of Israel were not even allowed to touch the body of a dead swine.

    Hygienic Regulations

The Bible contains hygienic regulations for the children of Israel. The Bible commands that sewage should be disposed of outside the camp of Israel:

Also you shall have a place outside the camp, where you may go out; and you shall have an implement among your equipment, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and turn and cover your refuse (Deuteronomy 23:12,13).

This precaution would help eliminate diseases such as typhoid fever.

    Circumcision On The Eighth Day

God also commanded his people to circumcise the male children on the eighth day:

He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations (Genesis 17:12).

The full meaning of that command has only been recently understood. Doctor Russel J. Thomsen writes:

One simple aspect of Gods command to Abraham helped prevent excessive bleeding with circumcision of the newborn. That was the instruction that the rite should be done on the eighth day of life. Modern medicine has come to understand the mechanisms at work in the clotting of blood. Of major importance in blood clotting is prothrombin, a compound made in the liver and the precursor of the active clotting agent thrombin. It has been well established that within a few hours after birth prothrombin becomes relatively depleted and does not become replenished by the infants liver until about the eighth day of life (Russel J. Thomsen, M.D., Medical Wisdom From the Bible, Old Tappan, New Jersey: Fleming H. Revell Company, 1974, p. 17).

It has been only since 1940 that it has become a standard practice to circumcise all male infants.

    Pest Control

The Bible also gave a prescription for the control of pests. Robert Boyd writes:

A sure-fire remedy for the control of pests was given centuries ago, and yet we are plagued today with insects, oftimes with no remedy. Moses commanded Israel to set aside one year in seven when no crops were raised [Leviticus] 25:1-24 . God promised sufficient harvest in the sixth year to provide for this period. Following this plan, heres what would happen – insects winter in the stalks of the last years harvest, hatch in the spring, and are perpetuated by laying eggs in the new crop. Now, if one year in seven no crop were raised, there is nothing for the insects to subsist upon and the pests are controlled by this method. Mans method today is crop rotation, but were still pestered with insects. This method will never approach Gods method. “Then there was the year of Jubilee after every seven Sabbatical years, which would serve to eliminate the insects which had a cycle of seven years or more or less and which were not affected by the one year in seven” (Robert Boyd, Boyds Bible Handbook, Eugene, Oregon: Harvest House Publishers, 1983, p. 78).

Many other examples could be added. With regard to science, the biblical writers were separate from their contemporaries in the ancient world in the following two ways: (1) they did not repeat the commonly held errors of their day (2) they spoke of things that only present-day science has come to realize is scientifically accurate.

    Be Careful Of Extremes

While we believe that the Scriptures are scientifically accurate and that there are some examples of Scripture foreseeing modern science, there are some writers who have gone too far in their assertion that the Bible anticipates modern science. R.M. Page writes:
Some writers, notably Rimmer, Sanden and Beirnes, have found Scriptural passages in which they see anticipations of modern scientific discovery. The undalatory theory of matter is seen in Genesis 1:2. Wireless telegraph is seen in Job 38:35. The concept of parallax is seen in James 1:17. Atomic theory of matter is seen in Hebrews 11:3 and atomic binding in Hebrews 1:3. Light as the basis of all substance is seen in Genesis 1:3, nuclear fission in Genesis 1:4, and a final chain reaction in Isaiah 34:4 and Luke 21:25-28. An expanding universe is seen in Isaiah 40:22. Motor cars are seen in Joel 2:3,4, airplanes in Isaiah 31:5 and 60:8, and submarines in Revelation 11:3-12 (R.M. Page, “Science in the Bible,” The Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible, Merrill C. Tenney, General editor, Volume 5, Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1977, p. 295).

    Summary And Conclusion

The fact that the Bible foresees modern science is another evidence of its divine inspiration. How else can we explain the references to scientific matters that were done years ahead of their time? Furthermore, why didnt the biblical writers repeat the common unscientific errors of their day? The answer is simple. The writings of Scripture were inspired by the Creator Himself.

As we examine the origin and development of the universe we will be discussing both modern science and the Bible. Though many times they will agree there are times they will not. The author of the Bible is the God of truth but scientists are not so infallible. Scientific truthcan never contradict biblical truth but scientific theoriesdo contradict the Bible in numerous ways. Why is this the case? If the Bible is Gods Word and contains accurate science why do we find scientific theories at odds with Scripture?

    Assumptions

The problem is not with the evidence that science discovers, rather it boils down to ones assumptions. All of us have our own biases and assumptions concerning the world around us. If a person assumes the theory of mindless evolution is true, then he will interpret the facts a different way than one who believes in divine creation. While all scientists deal with the same facts, the difference lies in the interpretation of the facts. The difference in interpretation can usually be traced back to the difference in assumptions.

    Same Facts, Different Conclusions

Two people who look at the same facts with different assumptions will come to different conclusions. We find an example of this in the New Testament when Jesus was speaking to the multitude. He said:

Father, glorify Your name. Then a voice came from heaven saying, I have both glorified it and will glorify it again. Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, An angel has spoken to Him (John 12:28,29).

All the people had the same facts (hearing the voice of God the Father). Yet some would not believe what they clearly heard. They attributed it to thunder. Why? Because of their assumptions. They did not believe Jesus was the promised Messiah, therefore, they assumed God the Father would not approve of His ministry. When the Father spoke His approval of Jesus certain people chose not to believe it. The voice was not rejected because of the evidence; it was rejected because of their previous assumptions. This illustrates how people can have the same facts before them and come up with different interpretations of those facts based upon their assumptions.

Scientific theories fit into the same category. The assumptions the scientist brings to the data he discovers will influence the way the data is interpreted. The difference lies not in the facts, but in the interpretation of the facts. This is the reason why we have some scientific theories that contradict the Bible.

    Wrong Interpretation

A further cause of the conflict lies with believers and their interpretation of the Bible. Sometimes the conflict between science and the Bible lies with a mistaken interpretation of Scripture. Theologian Eric Sauer notes:

We must not a priori equate Scripture with our exposition of it. The so-called contradictions between faith in the Bible and science are in fact not a conflict between the Bible and assured scientific knowledge, but between interpretations of the Bible and scientific theories; they offer a collision between popular traditions and philosophical speculations, which have been simply accepted from others without being tested (Eric Sauer, The King of the Earth, Palm Springs: Ronald N. Haynes Publishers, 1981, p. 202).

Christians must be careful not to assign blame to a scientific theory that contradicts Scripture until they are assured that their interpretation is what the Bible actually says.

    No Contradiction

We emphasize that there is no contradiction between what is written in the Bible and the evidence of science. The Bible says,

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).

Biblical faith is confirmed by the evidence we find in the world around us.

  19. HERE IS A LIKKLE MEDICINE AND THE CROSS FROM MY LECTURE ON THE SEVEN LAST WORDS FROM THE CROSS LAST SUNDAY

    • The Gospel accounts suggests that Jesus remained silent for most of the time he hung on the cross.
    • I believe that one of the reasons Jesus may have remained relatively silent at his trials before Pilate, and for the hours he hung on the cross because of the fact that both of His jaws were dislocated as a result of the very severe beating which he suffered to his face, which Isaiah predicted by saying “his visage was marred more than any man.” (Isaiah 52:14.)
    • I believe that Jesus suffered bilateral dislocation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), in fulfillment of the prediction of Psalm 22:14 a.
    • “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. ”
    • Therefore what he said, when he spoke, on the cross, with BOTH JAWS DISLOCATED and in unimaginable pain are worthy of intense consideration, and should impact our lives, whenever we meditate on Jesus last words on the cross.
    • Permit me to explain what I mean.
    • The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), is the ball-and-socket joint, located just in front of the lower part of the ear, that allows the lower jaw to move.
    • When the mouth opens wide, as in eating or yawning, the ball (called the condyle) comes out of the socket (called the glenoid fossa ) and moves forward. It goes back into place when the mouth closes.
    • The TMJ becomes dislocated when the condyle moves, or is forced, too far forward, and gets stuck in front of a section of bone called the articular eminence, and can not move back into place.
    • When the temporomandibular joint becomes out of joint, it gets stuck, and locked in an open position and there is difficulty to open and close the mouth, and there is discomfort until the joint is returned to the proper position because the several surrounding muscles tend to go into spasm and hold the condyle in the dislocated position.
    • There is :
    • 1) pain in the face, jaw and ear
    • 2) Headaches, and pain and pressure behind the eyes
    • 3Tenderness of the jaw muscles
    • 4) Swelling of the face
    • A person thus afflicted does not want to speak very much.

  20. When I read the words of Jesus my soul just responds and I feel inspired. I was not brought up in an ultra religious family. I had some exposure but there was no indoctrination. When, as a skeptic, I decided to explore the Bible for myself Jesus’ words just made sense and I thought if everyone lived the way he prescribed ALL PROBLEMS WOULD BE SOLVED.

I will not throw out the baby with the bathwater. Just as a scalpel can be used to kill or to save depending on the user, so it is with the Bible. So it is with most things.

  22. Again the basics questions which Christain avoid all having to do with the Ressurection cannot be found in the bible
We lived at time when science can unfold million of years of DNA from all kinds of species and science has yet to revealed that a body laying in the grave can once again come to life in a state of originality before death
In my mind the story of the resurection should be seen as a symbol of our spirtual life after our death
A life which was design and created with a moral compass to do good in the same manner and ways as Jesus did when he was on earth
The fact that theologians have to be confronted with questions about the resurrection speaks to an untruth which the church has kept hidden away from the minds of man
When a simple answer as to how we conduct our physical life in this earth in a moral and Christ like manner would unlock and secure our spiritual life through out eternity
Not in a hocus pocus manner but by our words actions and good deeds
Words and actions which will be commerative giving much reward towards our spiritual life
We live in the physical realm
But after death our ascension to the spiritual realm begins after death …all accounted (for) by our deeds when we were on this earth

RE…”When I read the words of Jesus my soul just responds and I feel inspired.”

Faith teaches us when something is True or Not…Here we may know the truth of all things by exercising our Faith.

Things that are True Inspire us and our Minds Expands as we receive Enlightenment and knowledge and we feel it within our Bosoms our Spirit Rejoices.

When Something is Not True we will receive no such Enlightenment and Joy. That way we may know with a surety it is not good.

RE In my mind the story of the resurection should be seen as a symbol of our spirtual life after our death

WHY WOULD ANY ONE RELY ON ANYTHING COMING FROM YOUR SILLY MIND FOR SUCH IMPORTANT ISSUES?

A life which was design and created with a moral compass to do good in the same manner and ways as Jesus did when he was on earth

ACTUALLY, THE BIBLE TEACHES IN Psalm 51:5-6
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

The fact that theologians have to be confronted with questions about the resurrection speaks to an untruth which the church has kept hidden away from the minds of man

THE CHURCH CANT KEEP ANY TRUTHS HIDDEN IF YOU FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF THE BELIEVERS AT BEREA AS STATED IN ACTS 17:11

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO LIKE THE BEREAN BELIEVERS—-BUT YOU ARE AN UNBELIEVER

Re When a simple answer as to how we conduct our physical life in this earth in a moral and Christ like manner would unlock and secure our spiritual life through out eternity
Not in a hocus pocus manner but by our words actions and good deeds
Words and actions which will be commerative giving much reward towards our spiritual life
We live in the physical realm

THESE SILLY OPINIONS ARE ANTI BIBLICAL AND EXPLAINS YOUR EXTREME IGNORANCE

RE But after death our ascension to the spiritual realm begins after death …all accounted (for) by our deeds when we were on this earth

AGAIN THIS YOUR SILLY OPINION BIRTHED IN YOUR SILLY MIND. YOUR OPINION IS UNBIBLICAL
THIS IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT OUR DEEDS OR WORKS

    FIRST TITUS 3:5

    Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
    6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

NEXT ROMANS 4:1-5 IS VERY VERY CLEAR ON THIS SCORE

What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

GO HERE FOR 32 Bible Verses about Salvation Not By Works
    https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/topics/Salvation-Not-By-Works

HERE ARE A FEW THAT SHOW UP YOUR ALARMING IDIOTIC IGNORANCE & ASSTIN ESQUE ARROGANCE

IF YOU CAN REALLY READ AND COMPREHEND SIMPLE ENGLISH YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DESERN THAT OUR SALVATION IS NOT BY OUR WORKS OR EFFORTS OR GOOD DEEDS OR THE WORKS OF THE LAW

IT IS BECAUSE OF THE GRACE OF GOD WHICH ISASSESSED BY BELIEVING IN AND HAVING FAITH IN CHRIST.. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR MORONIC MOUTHINGS OR UNBIBLICAL OPINIONS OR RANTS

    Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

    Galatians 2:21
“I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”

    Romans 8:3
For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

    Romans 9:16
So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy.

    Romans 11:6
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.

    Galatians 5:4
You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

    Acts 13:39
and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.

    Romans 3:20-30
    because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;

    Romans 4:1-7
What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

    Romans 9:31-32
but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,

    Galatians 2:16
nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

    Galatians 3:10-12
For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM.” Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, “THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.” However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, “HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM.”

    Galatians 3:21
For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.

    Galatians 5:6
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.

    Philippians 3:3-9
    for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh, although I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far more: circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, a Pharisee;

    2 Timothy 1:9
who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

    Titus 3:4-5
But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

    Hebrews 4:3-10
For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, “AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST,”

    James 2:10-11
For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. For He who said, “DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,” also said, “DO NOT COMMIT MURDER.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

    Romans 3:20
because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

    Matthew 5:20
“For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

    Isaiah 64:6
For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

NOTE WHAT PAUL SAYS OF THE THESSALONIAN BELIEVERS IN 1 THESSALONIANS 2:13

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

WHEN THEY HEARD THE WORD OF GOD THEY RECIEVED IT as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THE WORD CAN WORK IN A SOUL

RE…”Again the basics questions which Christain avoid all having to do with the Ressurection cannot be found in the bible”…

Taken from the series “Understanding part; 2 Faith & Hope” Soon to be Published…

For the scientific minds among us who debunk the scriptures and make light of it, here is one for you in the first verse of the Old Testament. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) Did not Moses tell you in a few words: “In the beginning”, here God introduces the concept of Time that is: the beginning. Then he said “God created the heaven” here God introduces the concept of Space as in the heaven, and right after he said “and the earth” introducing the concept of Matter giving us the dimensions we live in: Time, Space and Matter and that is only the first line of the scriptures! What else is there to learn?

Here below is another scripture that shows that God is greater than the dimensions we live in we can only image what we see, not what we cannot conceive of. Who do you think created the science you value so. Could you have imagined in the 70s that there would be an internet or talk on a computer with Skype. There is more to learn but we only truly learn/discover or is it rediscover what God has already created.

4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: (Isaiah 34:4)

People study the scriptures all the time because hidden in plain sight is the answers but we fail to see, we been unwashed. I am happy you are asking questions, we only receive an answer when we asks questions, we show that we are ready to understand when we ask a question. Keep asking to learn and you will receive. The Creator once said in explanation:

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (Matthew 7)

The spiritual life is true that you alluded to, the physical life leads us to see the spiritual and since it is in God’s creation we can learn from it, it was created for our benefit.

One word of caution we do not earn a good spiritual life if we are “good” for we all sin that is where repentance comes in and because of the atonement we know who paid for our sins, if you look back in our life carefully we will see the many sins/bad behaviour/improper action/mistakes it will take us millennia’s to pay for all the wrongs we have done but by baptism and following Christ he paid the price for us and our progress will be sure.

It represents an insult to the revered ancestors of all Afrikan peoples, and we shall continue to pay a price for this worshiping of the progenitors of others, so symbolized.

When I was a child my mother did not feed me steak even if she could cut it in small pieces, even if I was real hungry she fed me soft foods. As I got older I ate more of other things and later I ate steak when I was able. The scriptures say feed milk to babes or they will choke.

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (James 4:3) Most of us have not yet learnt to be righteous enough. We are trying but still have not reached the point where we will receive everything we ask for, we will misuse it. We may receive some things but we will not receive all things as we have not made ourselves ready.

Jesus while on this earth and walking and teaching his disciples spoke of truth .He also told his disciples that after his death they would be those who would make mention of seeing him
He told the disciples not to belive them
The church teaches that Thomas was the one disciple who was hesitant and reluctant to belive that Jesus had arose from the grave
Was Thomas a non beliver or was he adhering/obedient to Jesus warnings

  43. Lexicon God does not need a mankind explanation
The bible defines God as a deity with moral characteristics
There are also passages in the Bible where God is acknowledge as HIM
In all possibility the HIM reinforces the Father Son and Holy Ghost relationship all which would apply to the male gender
Also Jesus in one of his comments made mention that to see the Father then also u have seen ME ( In reference to himself)

  44. Freedom

If you understood what the word Good means from a spiritual context you would not make the asinine comment referencing being Good does not make a spiritual life
The bible theologians in my mind ha used masquerading tactics to fool believers( in )absence of the truth
The bible defines God as Good yet the church rebukes those who wants to live a Good life as not doing enough spiritually
The church cannot define what is spiritual enough if the bible states that God is Good
Therfore if all mankind prefers to walk in a Goodly manner that in itself is a reflection of God and a step towards closer to God

To the one who does not understand the significance of Gethsemane

The Garden was for Jesus the Christ.

Triune God praying to his Father to resolve the Mystery of Death on the Cross and being Away from God.

I WILL NOT EXPLAIN THAT MORE BECAUSE IT IS A MYSTERY THAT I CANNOT EXPLAIN.

Take this cup away from me, not my will BUT THY WILL BE DONE…

“One word of caution we do not earn a good spiritual life if we are “good” for we all sin that is where REPENTANCE comes in and because of the atonement we know who paid for our sins,”…

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Our Father in Heaven gives commandments that He that we can achieve…Although we Try our best to be good we still sin and fall short and that is why the Gospel is unto Repentance. When we do good he does indeed bless us and we are still indebted.
    Matthew 5:48 (KJV)

We all Sin, we have all committed sins in our lives, as we get older and we think we have changed for the better and even if we don’t do the foolishness that we once did, we are still guilty of the foolishness and we will pay the price for that because the foolishness we did negatively impacted others.

    1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

The process of Self-regeneration and choosing the Better Way is the wonderful method that God has given as his plan of happiness. Repentance has been the word that Prophets from old to new has spoken about. It is putting away the old self to become a better self, one that wants to do better.

Even if we should serve him with all your whole souls yet we would be unprofitable servants.

Really, all that he requires of us is to keep his commandments; and he has promised that if we would keep his commandments we should prosper; and he never varies from that which he has said; therefore, if we keep his commandments he does bless and prosper us.

In the first place, he created us, and granted unto us our lives, for which we are indebted unto him. And secondly, he does require that we should do as he has commanded us; for which if we do, he does immediately bless us; and therefore he has paid you. And we are still indebted unto him, and are, and will be, forever and ever; therefore, of what have we to boast?

Now I ask, can we say anything great of yourselves? I answer you, Nay. We cannot say that we are even as much as the dust of the earth; yet we were created of the dust of the earth; but behold, it belong to him who created you.

Therefore if that man repents not, and remains and dies an enemy to God, the demands of divine justice do awaken his immortal soul to a lively sense of his own guilt, which does cause him to shrink from the presence of the Lord, and does fill his breast with guilt, and pain, and anguish, which is like an unquenchable fire, whose flame ascends up forever and ever.

I say unto you, that mercy hath no claim on that man; therefore his final doom is to endure a never-ending torment.
