It is not an original line but sirFuzzy reminded the blogmaster in a recent communication that if we fail to prepare; prepare to fail. We must in this context evaluate Barbados’ precipitous fall from the halcyon days of being regarded the jewel in the crown to a nation that has failed to effectively plan and manage our affairs. It is often said we suffer from an inability to execute.

During the debate of the 2019 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals, Prime Minister Mia Mottley shared an exchange which occurred last week while touring Bridgetown with Prince Charles and tour guide Maurice Greenidge. Greenidge theorised based on recorded events Barbados is due a major hurricane every 67 years. Whether we subscribe to his theory or not, we should agree that despite our strategic geographical location on the archipelago, it makes sense to be prepared for what mother nature tosses up unexpectedly. Contrary to the widely held view – God is NOT a Bajan!

Although Barbados escaped relatively unscathed last year, the videos and pictures circulated that captured the devastation in Dominica and several of the neighbouring islands in 2017 should serve as an incentive to execute the Scouts motto – BE PREPARED!

Inquiring minds therefore must ask the 64K question.

Do Bajans take hurricane preparedness seriously?

“June too soon, July standby, August you must, September remember, October all over”

The official start of the hurricane season is less than three months off. The blogmaster is challenged to be optimistic about what will occur when a major weather system impacts Barbados. A heavy downpour which is not unexpected weather in the tropics always create flooding on the island. Sometimes of a life threatening nature. Our roads are in a poor state. We routinely engage in illegal dumping in our gullies and ‘irreverently’ and illegally construct in water courses. It is not unusual for a national shutdown call to be challenged by maverick players who see themselves slaves to the almighty dollar.

Many Barbadians appreciate the lack of financial resources will negatively affect national planning to prepare for the hurricane season, BUT, the blogmaster is also aware many Barbadians have become complacent because we have a generation who has not had to experience nature’s wrath.

A word to the wise AND as well as the indolent should be sufficient.

  1. Oh grow up, will you! You sound like a primary school child.

The primary lesson to be learnt is as you said. But that does not discount the fact that she was a prostitute and she found redemption and rose to unimaginable heights.

There are primary lessons and there are secondary lessons. Many a prostitute would read that and find hope. And they wouldn’t be wrong, would they? They would know that they can amount to something. They would know that as much as we revile them, God can reach down, wash them clean and make them shine!

PS. Wives sometimes go first. You never know, you may end up right here with me. LOL. I am nice too.

I do have every right to doubt what anybody says. Unless your name is God or Jah or Jehovah or Allah.

Silly, old has-been. Nobody cares that you earned a Barbados exhibition 50 years ago. Hundreds of other people have earned scholarships and exhibitions since then, an a good number of such people are my close relatives. You did not invent the polyclnics. The one at Speightstown was up and running from 1952/53 when both you and I were babies peeing our diapers.

    This cannot be refuted.

One of the grans got the school report yesterday, 1st in class (as usual)

THERE WERE HEALTH CENTERS IN 1952 NOT POLYCLINICS

THE SCOPE, PURPOSE CATCHMENT AREAS, DESIGN OF THE POLYCLINICS AND THAT OF THER HEALTH CLINICS ARE NOT THE SAME. PUBLIC HEALTH IS OBVIUOUSLY NOT YOUR FORTE

PUBLIC HEALTH IS A LITTLE MORE COMPLEX THAN FARE PICKING IT IS TRUE

  8. Barbados is a remarkable country. We take in the waifs and strays from other countries – many of whom arrve in the Careenage on schooners, packed between the figs, mangoes and oranges – give them a decent home to live in, educate their children at our best schools, pay to train them as professionals, then instead on going down on their knees and thanking Bajan taxpayers, they daily abuse our generosity, smear our top elected public official n the most personal way (I think the prime minister’s BERT programme will fail, that she has been badly advised and that she lacks a wider social programme) with the most foul-mouthed abuse and many people either think it is funny, or choose not to say anything. This is the height of ungratefulness.
It is sad when a relatively young man (still in his 60s), who should be at the top of his game, and passing on his knowledge to the next generation, should spend his time being bitter, drunk and abusive. Alcoholism can be treated.
It is also sad when the body regulating his profession has not taken any steps to discipline him. We, our nation, deserve better. Our generosity has been taken as a weakness. To disrespect our top elected official in a foul-mouthed way is to disrespect our nation. Where are the patriotic nationalists?

    ASSTIN

WHEN MY DOMINICAN MOTHER CAME TO BARBADOS SHE CAME ON HER PARENTS SCHOONER
SHE DID NOT COME AS A waifs and stray…..packed between the figs, mangoes and oranges

MY DOMINICAN MOTHER HAD A DECENT HOME WHERE SHE CAME FROM
SHE MARRIED A BARBADIAN AND WAS INVOLVED IN BUILDING SEVERAL HOMES FOR HER FAMILY AND ALSO FOR HER SISTER AND NIECE
BARBADOS DID NOT GIVE HER ANYTHING ——-SHE WORKED VERY HARD….AND MUCH HARDER THAN WOMEN OF HER COLOUR AND BEAUTY

BARBADOS DID NOT educate HER heir children at our best schools, pay to train them as professionals, ANY MORE THAN THAT AFFORDED TO OTHERS OF BAJAN BIRTH, AND SHE WAS ABLE TO PAY FOR ALL THIS ANY WAY

AND WHERAS I DO go down on the knees and thankTHE GOD OF HEAVEN, NOT Bajan taxpayers SINCE MY PARENTS PAYED TAXES

I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO daily abuse AND Smear our top elected public official n the most personal way

  11. My lord! Take in waifs and strays?????? We deserve better? The man had mixed parentage. He is a Bajan..
He worked here and contributed. is this where we want to go??????

I thought we were agreed here that all human beings are worthy of consideration whether they are waifs and strays from Dominica, fare pickers from Nelson Street, bare-foot Ivy boys sleeping on khus khus beds. I thought we were at least in agreement that these things do not matter. Schooner owning, well-shod, mattress-owning, scholarship winners and others not so fortunate – I thought we were united in the belief that these things do not define our worth.

But alas we see that we are no better than the powers that be. We define worth by money and where we come from. And whether or not our mother was a maid from Dominica!

  19. Disaster preparedness.

When a hurricane warning is issued, people run for the stores. As much as possible, get ahead of the rush having the following on hand:

    Extra batteries
    Matches (keep these dry)
Materials and tools for emergency home repairs–such as heavy plastic sheeting, plywood, a hammer, etc.
    Prescription drugs
A three-day supply of drinking water
Food that you don’t have to refrigerate or cook
    First aid supplies
    A portable NOAA weather radio
A wrench and other basic tools
    A flashlight
If you need to evacuate, you’ll bring these supplies with you. As expiration dates approach (for example, food or batteries), use the items and replenish your emergency stash.
    corned beef,sardines,tin salmon,biscuits.

  28. I agree with it.Sir Fuzzy

But as you must know and have undoubtedly yourself experienced, it is not the easiest thing to achieve in all things.

By the way are you talking about temperance per se, or about being bad tempered.

Controlling one’s temper is much easier lol. Stopped that when I departed from my first wife about 30 years ago Lol No longer need to lose it since

Some of the best of God’s heroes of the faith have lost their temper–chief of whom were Moses, and Abraham, Solomon etc

A bit of both. I can see how it works in a real face to face interaction. But in a keyboard interaction you can exercise more control as you have a bit of time to cool yourself down in-between exchanges

Imo you often contribute some worthwhile contributions. Continue to do such; please ignore or forbear when tempted to do otherwise.

To me when this written combat is unleashed over and over in duelling keyboard attacks; it says that the participants cannot claim ignorance or it was because of spontaneity.

If you have studied the word well; as i know you have over time, you should be better able to recognise that “trap” by now. I see it; i sure hope that you do also?

    ————————————- Galation chapter 5

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[b] 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Dr GP i have no more to say. Do have a good nite and keep up the fight. Remember, Gods army need active soldiers.

I dont know if you realized it but you mentioned some of the allenon or one another verses in this passage from Galatians YOU CITED
    .
First remember that the Pauline and the other epistles were written to believers and applies to believers— it is not for the rift raft but for those of precious like mind.

A good book on this subject is BODY LIFE BY GENE GETZ

    serve one another
    bite and devour each other,
    destroyed by each other.
    provoking and envying each other.

all of these are allenon or one another verses
they are about 50 of these if I could remember correctly will get back to you on this tomorrow if I remember
