At the root of  the state of things in Barbados is the high level of voter apathy commingling with a heavy dose of ignorance about the individual role John citizen must play to ensure an effective democratic system. One does not have to read, All the Kings Men or be acquainted with the insights of Niccolò Machiavelli in his well read Prince. The weight which comes from sitting behind the BU dashboard makes the task of enlightening our audience the more urgent.

In April 2013 Barbados Underground (BU) posted a blog George Payne v Edmund Hinkson: Storm Clouds Hovering Over MAM. The blogmaster wondered at the time why politicians who aspire to lead a nation demonstrate an embarrassing inability to resolve personal conflict.

In October 2015 BU posted a blog Remembering What Politicians Do. When the Eager 11 uprising threatened to derail the Stuart led DLP government- Stuart successful quelled the uprising David Estwick and a few colleagues threatened to sue the Nation newspaper for defamation. Here is a quote from the blog:

…this is innuendo and is defamatory in law. Pleased be advised that I have given my lawyers the instruction to see that my integrity in public and private advocation remains untarnished and unsullied…

There was the incident where David Estwick brandished a gun in the presence of Dale Marshall in parliament of all places. In March of 2019 BU posted the blog Two Members Of Parliament David Estwick And Dale Marshall Go At It!.  There is no doubt in the mind of the blogmaster the matter was allowed to fade by the political class with the prorogue of parliament. Why did the Committee of Privileges not honestly rule on the matter in the two years that followed?

There are other examples found in BU Archives that paint a picture of how members of the political class conspired to undermine the democracy they pledged to uphold. It must be stated that the challenge facing Barbadians is no different to citizens elsewhere. In developed countries the smell of decaying societies may stink less or more based on perspective. It is one of the greatest challenges human beings will face as life continues.

#atrophy?

How can Barbados be the proverbial diamond in the rough?

  1. Context, context, context. When a cut & paste Salemite drives the narrative, it is not hard be intelligent. #iamnotac🤣

  2. “The problem is that no one gives a shit about speaking good. That is what bajans used as their measuring stick to determine intelligence. Whereas here, it is about your skill set and production.”

Show me a list of skill sets where COMMUNICATION is not included.😋🤣

    Enuff the Intellectual…what a thing..lol

They chase yardfowls in Europe….especially in Scandinavian countries .. yardfowlism is way too ugly to have dwelling in their midst…that is why the people have power of recall for governments when they get it in their heads to raise yardfowls to disrupt the natural order of things…

so …what are you pecking around for now….ain’t no one giving you any information to run go carry news…fowls like yaself are much better off being surprised and SHOCKED…out of ya tiny little minds…ticktock..

At least now ya got something to look forward to…lol

Some of us in the diaspora may be willing to help fund a venture providing we know that there is a honest person involved.

Perhaps at some stage, you can consider trying to attract funds (for these ventures) from outside of Barbados.

  5. Dude,
    I am following.
You need to explore monetizing some of this work.
    There is funding somewhere
    out there
    Over the rainbow 🙂

    @TheOGazerts,
Thanks for the vote of confidence. We will have opportunities for people in the diaspora to invest at some point not too far in the future… notice that I said invest, it’s not our style to ask individuals for handouts, we aim to configure investment opportunities in viable Caribbean startups so that you have the chance to profit.

Meanwhile we make do with funding from international development agencies like the IDB, EU Commission, and CDB. A million here, a million there, and soon it adds up to something that might make a bit of a difference.

David, education is education, formal or otherwise. What goes in is not important …what comes out is the deciding factor.

That statement does not even make sense … because what goes in obviously produces what comes out … as well as the mind stretched by an idea never regains its true dimension …

Do you even know what is communication? Obviously, you think it is only speaking. Typical and my point is proven. Me guess that the word communication for you curtails all other forms and only involves the use of the spoken word. Hmm, intelligent? Me doan tink so. Should I help you, yeah? You are not a bad fella, just a follower.

Mr Intelligent. I communicate my companies intentions via emails, official mails, corporate flow charts or poster notices. I have not even opened my mouth but the intentions of what must be done are made clear. That is communication, too. When I use the speaking form of COMMUNICATION in corporate meetings, I present with slides or power points. The companies position is well explained and my skill set as the marketing manager is already known and established. No one is impressed with my word, but my ability to present my information clearly and with information that is factual and easy to follow. COMMUNICATION. Clarity is of the utmost importance, not one’s ability to use vocabulary.

  9. How could I think communication is only speaking when I communicate on BU and it is a blog?🤔 Few months ago I coined the term egofowl. It is suppose to represent those on BU, who, like the “yardfowls” they so often ridicule, defend their (personal and group) narrative at all costs, even when it makes no RH sense. Your response epitomises this behaviour. All you have done is proved me right–communication skills are important. Whether emails, official mail, flow charts, a blog post or talking “pretty”, it all depends on the activity. Would you do an interview with flow charts and powerpoint? Furthermore, vocabulary does not mean big words, but more about knowing what words suit your audience, which sometimes are the simplest words or acronyms. I think you should stick to presenting your companies’ (or is it company’s) plans by charts and powerpoint, Ms.EU Marketing Manager.🤣🤣🤣😋 #iamnotac

You continue to show how much of a clown you are and also the manipulator You completely twisted my words to suit your slanty narrative. But, that is typical of people of your ilk. Your response is only because you want to cover up the fact that you equate the broad base word communication with only speaking. Note that I am dealing with bajans thinking that intelligence is all about how well you can speak. You decided to throw communication into the equation because you thought it is only about speaking, hence show me the skill set that does not involve communication. Now you seek to clarify your mistake by identifying with the means of communication, I communicated to you in the above comment by use of ridicule and, while seeking to place me in the same idiotic context as your inflated ego. I mean let us be fair, you are no idiot; Just high minded and haughty, thinking that as a bajan lawyer, that title bestows upon you unfathomable knowledge and power where you are above and others below. Its law fraternity mentality and you are full of it. Enuff, that I are under my charge, are companies well established over the last three years. The main company has extended its branches because the clientele just keeps on growing. Our clientele are broad base and famous. Our lawyers prove their worth working for our companies. We deliver and all deadlines are met since up here it is production, quality and standards that set you apart. Can I say the same for you and your organisation? #haughtyhighmindedandablabberingshite

  11. Oh so it should have been COMPANIES’. Critical thinking does not seem to be one of your skill sets either given your follow up. Another of the self-proclaimed Enuff opposers wound up, let loose and then evaginated, eviscerated even. Goodbye Ms.EU Marketing Manager. Your honour Counsel rests. #iamnotac#iamnolawyer🥊🖐🏾🤣🤣🤣

Hahahaha, you are killing it. I mean do you not ever come down from of your pedestal. Admission is good for the soul. Tell ma na, is your organisation operating on standards, quality of the service, and high output and input levels? Please do not go yet, I am enjoying this. Note I ain’t use no bad words or insulting language towards you, especially my favourite bad word. So tell ma, awaiting, or is that a waiting? Help ma

We know the IMF calling the shots. I have no problem with her BERT plan or the fact that restructuring is necessary. I got a serious issue with her laying off people, and hiring her people; ensuring that her father gets a special gift from her in the form of a Knighthood so he can strut his stuff through immigration officials without check because he is no longer to function as an ordinary citizen;how she did not do enough to ensure the layoff process was fair; how she proposing wire tapping and ensuring that another one of her loyals, Dottin, is not too far from her side when she brings it into fruition. I got a serious problem with the transparency she has shown in writing off tax defaulters millions owed. I want her to publish the names because if you forgiving them and they already sleeping better, you should not have a problem publish names of those who benefited under her tax amnesty.

  18. Now seeing this topic

“members of the political class conspired to undermine the democracy they pledged to uphold”

Our politicians have come through an education system that is biased toward academics, segregates us from an early age and subscribes to a definition of excellence that encourages selfishness and self aggrandizement.

A nation needs to aspire to excellence, but to only recognise one type is asinine and to define it in such narrow terms is destructive.

The education system only gives us two types of leaders; the egomaniac (Mia, David, Owen) and the covert narcissist (Freundel, Sandiford). (There is a retired PS who identified himself outside of work as PS Smith)

Either way, both types have no place leading people, only a fool would expect anything other than ego stroking from them

  19. Totally.
